A small shop with good mochi! Came with a friend on weekend, and there was a line out the door because the shop is pretty small. After we got in, they took our order quickly and packaged our mochi efficiently. We tried the peanut butter, lychee, melona, and lilikoi flavors. The mochi was really soft to the point that it didn't have too much of a chew to it, but it was still good! We also took it to the beach to eat, so it could have been that the sun melted the mochi before we had a chance to eat. Anyways, the flavors were interesting. The peanut butter wasn't super chunky, but had good flavor. I think we all would've preferred peanut butter with more texture, though. The lychee one tasted like what it was supposed to. The melona and lilikoi flavors were a little too strong for my liking, but still objectively good. I appreciated how fresh the mochi was! I'd come back and try the chi chi dango. The workers are nice and very efficient. There's not much parking but if you circle around the lot a couple times, a space will probably open up. read more

This is real fresh and homemade mochi. The Mochi was so good, I will get this every time I come to hawaii. This is where they manufacture the Mochi, but there is a small shop inside. The peanut butter Mochi was my favorite. They all have little fillings inside and omg I wish I could have it again. The service was amazing and the lady was super nice! Bring cash unless you are paying over $10 dollars then you can use card! Which won't be hard to do. Got 8 Mochi's for the price of $10. The shop is inside the warehouse and is tuck in the back. Been there forever!!!!! I was born and raised on the Big Island and remember as a child and youngster our Oahu friends and family bringing snacks for us from Nishoodo when they visit. The chichi dango in pink and white is what we would get and I loved it. Moving forward years, I am still enjoying the chichi dango and nothing has changed. The size is still the same as I remember (meaning it hasn't shrunk in size over time) and the pricing is moderate and permits us to make this a great gift. You can give it as a gift in their prepacked boxes (by the pound) or you can put a few in a little bag and give them as party favors. OR, you can get the box and sit in front of the tele and snack on it!!! A few things you need to remember 1) ORDER ahead of time 2) Set your GPS if you've not been there as they are located in a maze of industrial businesses 3) Don't go there hungry or you may end up buying other items.... BEST MOCHI EVER!!! I'm from SoCal so our mochi store equivalent is Fugetsudo. I personally think that the mochi here is way softer and I love the assortment of tropical flavors! I got liliko'i, melona, coconut, lychee, manju, and daifuku. My favorites were the liliko'i and lychee mochis, I was so impressed with how well they captured both of these flavors in the filling! I do not recommend this store. I called ahead to place an order, but they said they weren't accepting phone orders and that I had to come in person. I arrived right at opening (7 AM), only to be told the mochi weren't ready and to return at 10 AM. To avoid another wasted trip, I placed an order for pickup at 1 PM. When I arrived at 1 PM, the worker--who was completely incompetent--admitted she forgot to put in my order, and they had sold out of everything. To make matters even worse, we traveled from out of state, and this was our last day in Hawaii. This entire experience was a complete waste of our time and ruined our final day. Their disorganization and lack of accountability were beyond frustrating. I was really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately, the service was incredibly disappointing. read more

I have been going here for years ever since I was a little kid and it is still the best manju place in the US. The prices have gone up which makes sense in the current environment but it is still super affordable! The manju here is very soft and they are generous with the amount of filling they add to it. You have to get the chi chi dango here, I refuse to get it anywhere else! It is the best spot for it. I heard their secret is they put condensed milk in it, so of course it has to taste good! I always go for the tsumami, the lima bean one as lima bean filling is my favorite! I was surprised at how much I actually liked the flavored ones like melona and lychee. HOLY MOCHI BALLS! Who in Hawaii DOESNT love mochi!!!??? My brother and I found this little gem one day, and I am really glad we did! The shop itself is really small, but patience is key! I ordered a whole bunch of different mochis to try, and my absolute favorite was the Lilikoi! So light and so flavorful! My second flavor would definitely have to be the azuki bean! My kids loved the matcha, peanut butter and melona! There are 2 parking stalls in front of their shop, but I do believe there are some spots in the area you can park but you just have to walk. I visited Nisshodo on a Monday afternoon and I was so surprised to see there wasn't a long line. I've heard from friends how crowded the store gets so I was so happy that I didn't have to wait. I ordered the Lilikoi, Lychee, Daifuku, Kuri, and Chi Chi Dango mochi. My favorites were the Lilikoi and Lychee! I haven't seen many manju shops that sell these flavors. My friend found this spot and really wanted to go. It's hidden behind a strip mall in the more industrial part. Parking can be hard to find, but definitely worth it. We ordered a few mochi each and we're delighted by them. Lychee was my personal favorite. The fruit flavor balanced with the delicate mochi exterior was perfect. First time visiting today! I was so excited to come here that I had trouble sleeping the night before! And I was not disappointed at all!! Absolutely wonderful mochi, and now chichi dango is my new favorite food!! We tried: * peanut butter mochi (I knew we'd like these so thankfully got multiples) -- Delish. I'm not an azuki bean fan because I don't like the texture; pb is perfect. * lilikoi and melona were both too sweet for my preference, but the mochi was so good and pillowy soft; the flavors were spot on and bursting -- so you'll be happy if you have a sweet tooth. * we got the two darker colored ones that might be baked (?) and I can't remember the name. This was not a fave, only because I love the soft chew of mochi. * 1/2 pound of chichi dango was total heaven!! I've never had this before and it's the best treat ever!! I love the size (a few bites) and how they're individually "wrapped." They are perfection! * 1/2 pound of fruity chichi dango was incredible! The flavors are spot on and flavor forward. So yummy! I love that they have the chichi dango prepackaged by weight and assortment. I couldn't be happier. Well I'd be happier if I had access to a freezer so that my loot would last longer. The Nishoddo candy store was a little hard to find. I almost thought I took a wrong turn because it was in an industrial area with folks loading and unloading trucks for another business nearby. Lo and behold I saw the sign Nisshodo and knew I found the right place. There is parking right in front of the store. Make sure you close the door behind you, I got yelled at an employee because the door opened back up. You have to pretty much slam the door shut since it's not aligned well w the frame. I ordered a $10 box of white and pink individually wrapped chi chi dango, I love the presentation of the box and they make great gifts! I have to say though that todays batch didn't quite taste right, didn't have that slight coconut milk taste it normally has but nevertheless still yummy. I also ordered the peanut butter Mochi at $1.25 w piece which was yummy, I need to try some of the other flavors like lilikoi and lychee next time I'm here.
