I've had two kids at this place almost since the day they opened their doors. At this point we are parting ways for good... Today was the last straw when the loudmouth twerp that calls the kids from the waiting room to their lessons dressed down my five year old for running in the waiting room (not by the pool, actually in the waiting room, whatever it takes to keep us morons safe! Right?). That was enough for me, but really there is more...It takes the kids forever to make it through the training program. My oldest kid learned more about swimming after six weeks of splashing around in the pool at various summer camps last summer than he did after six months at Nitro. There are never enough chairs in the waiting/viewing room (formerly a weight room), it is always damp (not just a little wet here and there because there are wet kids around, I mean damp like it ain't ever gonna get dry), and the room is invariably smelly and too warm. Also, the visibility of the training pool from the waiting room sucks. Most of the lessons are early enough that you have to leave work well before 5 to get your kid there, so having public wifi in the building appeared to be a nice perk, except for the fact that it almost never works. Finally, the bathrooms/locker rooms are probably worse than most Soviet era prisons, and the men's room appears and smells as if it is sprayed down with moldy pee at least once a day. The good news? If you stay there long enough to complete the learn to swim program (probably at least $600 worth of lessons) you get a t-shirt! ps. Why the 5 star review you ask? I would give them 3.5 if that were an option. Nitro does a great job at teaching swimming but many of their policies suck. They do not prorate for missed classes due to holidays (Memorial Day). They do not allow any makeups for illness, vacation, etc. They make you cancel and reapply if you want to take time off for vacation or if you want to switch from classes to private lessons. The parking lot is always full. I've had to park next door and hike in with two small kids. There's only one family bathroom and I am a mom with little boys. However, I think the bathrooms and facility are very clean. I do wish that I knew how the classes were going, you get no feedback whatsoever. Supposedly, they polled the parents who preferred spending more time in the water rather than be filled in on progress made in class. I understand the sentiment but wish I knew more about how the classes were going and what we can work on at home. Edited to add: the owner contacted me to let me know that they do prorate for holidays and offered to refund if I was mistakenly billed. I have upped the review from 3 to 4 stars. read more

Organized, individual, focused. Nitro provides a supportive environment for youngs swimmers to gain confidence and master skills in the water. Nitro has a station format for young swimmers. Each station is a lane where they master a small set of skills, then they move to the next station which is +1 of what they did before. It has built confidence and terrific FORM - which we love to see. Young swimmers are encouraged to focus and succeed. Our kiddo has some special needs- and the swim instructors have been patient and supportive. This is extraordinary because a lot of other coaches just shrug and say "xx doesn't want to learn." - which is not the case. Cons: - Getting a time slot is difficult and challenging. The staff helps as much as possible, but it takes persistence and patience. - There are single sex changing rooms, but if your swimmer needs assistance and you are a parent of the opposite sex... it can be tricky. Nitro recently added some cabanas - but they are so cute even the parents that do not need the accommodation use them.. le sigh. Our child is still too young to change out of the suit without help - but too old to use the ladies room for changing. read more

My son goes to Nitro swimming, and these guys really take care of your kids. They have a maximum of 4 children to an instructor ... Since we started going my son has improved tremendously. We had been going to the YMCA but the instructors there didn't really seem to push the kids, in addition at Nitro as soon as you child masters a skill he immediately goes to the next station, which provides your child the ability to improve at his own pace. We have him going 2 times a week, which is more than at the Y but the ability for him to go up and learn new skills during class time, instead of during registration is SO nice. I am really impressed with the staff and facilities. and the ability to have them autodraft your credit card, is a big plus for those of us that forget to pay for stuff. read more

I don't love the guy who bikes to swim around 320 on Thursdays who told my daughter not to touch the little people signs that she picked up off floor that were thrown all over the place. Nitro is very professional and the coaches make my kids feel confident in the water. They class size is small 2-3 kids per instructor. They rotate thru the different stations as they master each skill. The pool is heated and indoors so lessons can be taken year round. My only gripe is that it seems like a very long process. I don't recall it taking 6 months and hundreds of dollars to learn to swim 20 ft. (Nitro 1, station 10). All that said, I have only heard positive comments from parents of children who have been here for a long time. Once the kids graduate Nitro 2, they seem to be expert swimmers. read more

We LOVE nitro! Having gone through their mommy and me classes as well as nitro one with both boys we can't say enough good things about the quality, care and attention to their program. Although pricier than other swimming lessons in the area, the progress and growth of our boys is SO worth it....it's a life skill after all! We took a brief break near the holidays and our boys were begging to go back! I couldn't believe it! Since the last incident, I have switched to private lessons, I refused to make my life inconvenience due to one unprofessional experience. With private lessons for both my kids 4 and 2 years old, they get 100% learning experience, you don't need to put up with the "unequal" crap. Most importantly, each kids learn so much more within shorter period of time compare to that of group lessons. My kids' coach is awesome, he knows what he suppose to do with each kids. My kids have advance so much under his training. My 2 yrs old will cry occasionally in the beginning of lesson but she is 2. However she can jump, hold breath, and swim/kick to surface for survival. This is after a little over 6 months. Just unbelievable! 4 stars not 5 stars because the bathroom could be cleaner. read more

BEWARE they will charge you without telling you the fine print upfront. Instead they shove it way down in forms. I was not told about needing to do an official withdrawal form for my child, instead I let them know through email. No one responded that I needed to fill out this form. So now, I am told that I owe them $100 for this month's swim lessons and that if they are full, we just don't get to attend. read more

This place is seriously impressive! The facility has indoor swim lessons and team classes. There is a heated lesson pool which is easily viewed from a pleasant room with individual seats and a riser. The huge team pool has risers all along the edge of one side making viewing the team classes easy. The schedule is so expansive that it is likely to have children at differing levels (both team and lessons) all in class at the same time - making the trip so convenient! The coach/teacher interaction is quite positive and encouraging! There is a lot of supervision in the lesson pool. Also the team communications are wonderful with parents receiving email news regularly. Even the emails are encouraging! The owner Coach Mike really seems to care about the kids! He is often walking around the pools and talking to parents and kids. The ONLY down side would be that there is only one family restroom and often a line. However there are two large locker rooms. There are signs posted on the entry to the locker rooms that states no kids of the opposite gender over age two may enter - hence the longer lines outside the family restroom. I mention this as a logistics fyi for parents. We love Nitro! You have to see it in person - This is a great place! read more

A bit expensive, hard to get a slot in the best lesson time and they herd a LOT of kids in and out of there. But all for good reason! The lessons are well designed and technically sound. The instructors are knowledgeable, they care and best of all they get results. My son is 3 and he loves it. I would not be surprised if he transitions from lessons to a swim team. It is/has been a great experience. Also add that they are remodeling the locker rooms(it was needed). And there is an air conditioned "fish bowl" for the parents to sit in. My wife and I always enjoy watching the seat exchange between classes as parents jockey for front row seats to watch the kiddos. People are funny to watch. read more

I was reflecting this morning about my swimming and thought I would throw a shout out to Nitro. I did a sprint tri in 2007 and my performance was just above drowning :) So I decided if I wanted to continue in triathlons, I would need to learn how to swim, not tread water. Nitro appears to be a very successful business that has figured out how to really crank out the instruction. My wife and I call it the "swim factory." It's all business here: they "mass produce" swim instruction by maximizing efficiency and minimizing waste. For little kids learning how to swim, they break the process down to 10 highly efficient "stations." They'll run several classes simultaneously, with each station in high production. And in this manner they'll fill their work day. As you might imagine, it's a very lively place with literally hundreds of children processing in and out of the water. And therein lies the rub, at least for us. We've had three children process through the beginning swim program. The price one pays for all this business acumen and "conveyor-belt" efficiency is any kind of personal attention. This is like the HMO of swim lessons. Our children rarely (ever?) had the same instructor twice, and we are quite sure no one there ever bothered to learn their names. It's very, very impersonal here. As a parent I felt like my children were just dollar signs at Nitro. Everything here is about business, and process. And truthfully, there are times when all that can be OK for a while, particularly at the beginner level, if your objective is simply to get the "chore" of getting your four-year-old swimming over with in a hurry. But ... one of my girls went on to join one of their teams. Inspired by the Olympics last year, she choose swimming as her sport. And the herding process has continued. After over a year of constant coach turn-over, never having even a single conversation with another team member, and never having a mentor to bond with or learn to respect, we're finally done. There's so much more to sports and sportsmanship than simply doing laps and mechanically going through the motions. It's been demoralizing and saddening for my little girl to realize that -- after so much time on the "team," no one at Nitro has any idea what her name is, and it's never occurred to anyone to learn it. Odd though, they never seem to have a problem discerning my name when it comes to the credit card auto-draft. The folks at Nitro have learned how to monetize swimming. I have no doubt they are a model of clinical efficiency. And yet we are talking about children, not cows. Somewhere along the way Nitro has forgotten that. And worse: we've allowed ourselves to be treated that way. read more

Pretty sad to have a policy that even with a doctors note (bc my child had an ear infection), I cannot get a makeup class nor my money back for that one session. I had swimming lessons at Nitro in Cedar Park last year and I decided to cancel my swimming lessons because of their policy that if you are not able to attend the scheduled class even with extenuating circumstance, you basically lose your money. It's use it or lose it. On my birthday this year, my daughter gave me a Nitro gift card because she wanted me to continue my swimming lessons. I called Nitro to use the gift card which is probably only worth a few lessons and the manager said that I cannot use it because their classes are full and are not accepting waitlist. I asked for a gift card refund instead since I won't be able to use it, the manager said they cannot refund the money. I told her to accommodate me on the waitlist then. She denies my request and wants me to call and check if there is availability. I am not happy with very poor customer service. Excellent customer service is when you tell the customer that if there is an opening for waitlist you will call the customer. Instead, she wants me to call and check every now and then if there is an opening. Save your money folks. Stay away from this place. read more

This review is in regards to Tracy (owner), Corine (manager), Nitro as a business but not in regards to other employees. The teachers were wonderful and I wish them the best especially under the less than satisfactory leadership that runs the place. Nitro swim schools number one priority is to make money and they do not have the kids hearts in interest. They would rather risk the other patrons potentially getting covid rather than giving a kid a reschedule to come to another class. There is a very strict policy in place about reschedule that keeps the interest in making money over teaching kids to swim. Yes we signed an agreement regarding this policy but times change and so do circumstances. With Covid coming back on the rise you would think there would be some leniency about this policy but there isn't. Parents need to be fully aware that nitro is willing to keep your money or risk having parents bring in sick kids rather than allowing a family to reschedule a class. This is a very disappointing way to run what's considered to be a school for children. Just being in it for the money is not a lesson I choose to teach my child. read more

Parent beware, because of Nitro's 24 hour policy and no refunds or makeup swim lessons kids are being taken to their lessons with high fever and getting other kids sick. They do not care about this as I have spoken with the manager about it and they mentioned it is up to the parents but they will not let you reschedule. read more

Revised Post 7/18/17: Nitro reached out to us. They provided one-on-one instruction for two 45 minutes sessions that, combined with what had previously been learned, put our child at a skill level where we are pleased. The kind gesture/action on Nitro's part is very much appreciated. That they cared enough to initiate contact and offered to provide the additional instruction was very nice. Original Post from 7/13/17: We had our 5 year old in lessons here for about 12-13 weeks. Very disappointed in the instruction provided. Several of the swim instructors had no sense of urgency to get the kids time in the water actually swimming/practicing/learning. It was so much so that I finally started timing how much time my kid spent in the water during a 30 minute lesson. Typically the student to teacher ratio was 3 to 1. On at least three occasions my kid spent 5 or less minutes in the water during the 30 minutes. For me, that's not even close to being adequate. I did inquire regarding this and they agreed it wasn't acceptable and gave us one free lesson, but then there was little to no improvement during subsequent lessons, so we stopped going to Nitro. I recommend you take your kids elsewhere. read more

My daughter has been taking at classes since she was in parent tots class and she is currently in Nitro 2 at age 5. I can't begin to say how happy I have been with Nitro, she looks forward to class each week, to the point that she skipped out on ice cream one day so she wouldn't be late to class. Robert the manager is fantastic to work with and it is obvious he cares about the coaches and the kids that attend classes, anytime I have had a concern, which was only once, he immediately addressed the issue. All the coaches are fantastic but my daughter especially loves Coach Victor and Coach LJ, but again I have been happy with all of them. read more

8/28: yeah, changing this to 1 star from my two stars. I don't get the hype. Really. Maybe it's because my son loves the water so it's not the magic that other people have experienced with children who are scared of the water. Now they are updating the locker rooms, but at the Porta-Potties out front (which you're supposed to use for the duration of the renovation) there is NO sink or even a huge bottle of anti-bac. Seriously? I also never knew that you can ask the deck supervisor for an update on your child, they're just tossed out and the next lesson starts. When I commented that I never knew that, they acted like it was my fault for not knowing! :\ Maybe it's better for kids who are terrified of swimming or older kids who are on the team track. We've been going for several months and my son gets about 10 min out of his 30 min w/a teacher. The other 20 min he's just bopping around waiting for the other kids to finish their 1:1 time w/the teacher. He's swimming LENGTHS at our community pool w/my husband, going under in 2 ft of water to get dive rings and floating on his back while at Nitro they're still having him put his face in the water for a count of 5. Hmmm, what am I paying $18 a lesson for? Their policies, customer service (holy terrible) and their "swimming mill" mentality are not worth paying for. PS, on our FIRST day there a mom ran full speed and JUMPED in the pool to save her son. I can no longer recommend Nitro Swim. While the teachers are good, the management leaves much to be desired. After updating my credit card (in person) for online payment, they continued to use my old card number (which then declined since the number was no longer valid). When I called to discuss payment, I let them know that I would not be paying the $5 decline fee since I had done my part to update the card. They decided it was worth the $5 to lose two students who had attended for over a year. Yes, it's just 5 bucks, but I was taken aback when the man on the phone asked who I updated the card with and, after describing the person he replied, "We don't have anyone here who looks like that." Nitro Swimming has been an awesome part of our lives over the past two years! My boys were taught to swim, lifesaving techniques, multiple strokes, and both graduated Nitro 2. It's affordable, a great student/teacher ratio, & amazing to watch all of the children learn & grow each week. Nitro was completely understanding and gave my son medical leave when he fractured his arm. The coaches have been well trained, they are friendly & gifted in their teaching abilities, and the owner manages the place remarkably! My kid started hating swimming after starting at Nitro. He did pretty good in embler but in Nitro his interest went down the hill. Rude front-desk people are inconsiderate about your issues. My daughters absolutely LOVE Nitro swimming and so do my wife and I! Donna and Bonnie are absolutely amazing along with all the other young talent they have working at the location we go to. My oldest daughter has progressed SO FAST and it is all due to how these well taught instructors help her. Additionally, they allow you to have make up classes if you know you're going to miss a class in advance, which has been HUGE! I cannot thank you and your staff enough Mike! As loyal swim parents going on time every week, this one time in almost two years we got stuck in traffic, and we called to try to reschedule to another time, got a big no. I'd have chosen a lesser rating than 1. I don't have anything good to say about this place. For all the good talk about Nitro, we enrolled our 5 yr old daughter for beginner swim classes. We were 20 min away from this place. For a 30 min. class there would be around 4-5 kids with 1 instructor. The instructor hardly gets 10 min to focus on 1 kid. And some times the instructor forgets your kid is in their class. This happened to me 3 times and every time I took this to the attention of the deck coach there for no use. So blah blah excuses and the standard -"yeah, we will make sure it won't happen again" statements. It was so frustrating to watch my kid getting bored idling on the deck, yawning, looking around cuz she got nothing to do for those 30 min. and she used to cry on our way back that she didn't get to spend enough time in the water. They are so happy to take your money to teach nothing. We used to drive once a week for 20 min , one way to get to this place for 10 min of their divine grace if you are lucky. I was a fool to continue there for about 8-9 months and my daughter learned zero there. My neighbor suggested YMCA on McNeil instead and I couldn't be happier. They offer 2 times/week , 30 min per class plus if you are member you get a much better price and you can enjoy their entire facility. The big PLUS: if you have time, your kid can practice in the pool before and after the class. Nitro won't allow that. Kids too are 3-4 per instructor. Within only 2 months, my daughter is now able to do backstroke for about 15 secs and freestyle for about 15-20 secs and can also roll over in the water as well. Much cheaper, much better. Again this was my experience with Nitro. Would never recommend, never go back to Nitro on torre grande in cedar park. read more

Note - This will be an ongoing review based on my experiences. Due to the wide range of reviews I feel this will be the most useful for anyone considering Nitro Swim. My quick story: I know how to swim but I suck at freestyle. I want to get good enough at it to use swimming as my primary fitness. Current rating is based on: 2/18/2015 - Access Nitro's website and perused the adult / master swim options. I like that the website clearly states the cost. I do wish it listed the dates/times but you have to contact them for that information. I'm assuming it's so some human can discuss their services with you vice you just looking at a website which has it's good points and bad. It's understandable at least and not uncommon. I used the contact them option to ask a few questions like why should I use Nitro and what did they suggest I take: masters or adult swim. The site said I would hear a response in the next 48 hours but it only took about 5 hours and it was from Mike (the head instructor there from what I can gather from the website). Based on our interactions via email I decided adult swim lessons was definitely best for me. Mike told me if I decided to get with Nitro to let him know after I sign up and he would take part in my first lesson. That's pretty cool offer in my opinion as I'm sure he's a busy guy. 2/19/2015 - Very next day Katie from Nitro called me to follow-up and make sure i didn't have further questions. She was extremely nice by the way. We discussed the day/times available for adult swim and I decided upon a class based on how forthcoming she was. Reading all the reviews, people seem surprised on some of their policies such as: no make-up or pro ration if you miss a class, the registration fee cost, the you must cancel membership by the 15th of each month, etc. She covered all that without prompting which leads me to believe the people complaining about that stuff either A) weren't listening when they signed up B) had another person help them and maybe they dropped the ball or most likely C) knew of the policies and tried to play it off as they weren't told but they probably forgot. 2/26/2015 - Had my first class last night and Mike (the owner) was as good as his word and handled my first lesson (as well as the 3 other new people). He's a really good guy and I like his teaching method. Gives real good demonstrations and very personable. Was pretty funny, he randomly came up to me to show the rendering of their new, planned training facility across the street. Didn't know who I was, just wanted to talk about it. The facility is interesting and intimidating at first. You walk in and there are tens of middle/high school kids swimming in the pool to the right. Obviously not learners. Then you see what looks like the kiddie pool to the left and there are parents watching both pools. So thinking of taking your clothes off and getting in in such a display wasn't exactly welcoming. But I soldiered on and I'm glad I did. And once you're in the pool you barely even notice anyone else because you're concerned with trying to learn. Classes are taught in groups of 4 students to one teacher and the "kiddie" pool isn't kiddie. It's smaller than a normal pool but 3.5 to 4 feet deep and 88 degrees. Very very nice pool. Pure Austin is set at 84 and just that small degree difference is very noticeable. Very comfortable. Like I said earlier the lessons were good and even if you know some how to swim you start at the beginning. They have to know what you can do, right? But Mike was having me do more advanced drills when he saw my level so you're not held back. Looking forward to my next class. read more

Adult Swimming is a mixed bag. Adult Lessons were great - The Instructors helped me learn to swim well and build endurance. I found each instructor to be very professional in working with adults. Master's Swimming at Cedar Park however was not a good experience. I cannot recommend this place. I was looking for a fun team environment but ended up to be a place where Coaches acted like they didn't want to be there and the fast swimmers just want to have a little clique where they could whine and complain about the owners and facilities. I recently moved on to a Team that focuses on swimming and working together. Strangely enough there are several ex-Nitro swimmers on the Team. The Kid's Teams in the early morning seem to be excellent and well managed by the Coaches. . read more

The coaching is good is what I had heard, which is why we joined. The water in the smaller pool is comfortable, but the big one is cold. I kind of pushed my kid into Team Fitness training for 5 months, but finally he could not take it anymore and we had to pull him out. When there are no decent choices around, we just have to live with the monopolistic behavior of a money making company that Nitro has become. I always thought the whole concept of a lane was to ensure a swimmer swims in one lane and does not bother another swimmer. I understand a little bit more, but 5 to 6 in one lane is really minting it. I am no swim expert, so perhaps that is acceptable. Unfortunately for our timing to pull out, Nitro charges a yearly USA swimming registration fee which hit us with greater than $200 and our timing for withdrawal goes against their policy that we have to report withdrawal before 15th of the month, so we will get dinged for another $70. Hurrah to free money for them. I would have considered this donation, but unfortunately I cannot even get a tax write off for this. Nothing against the coaches - they are good. Watch for their policies especially when you withdraw and watch carefully how much your kid can tolerate cold water in the big pool. read more
