This place has been on my list of food to try for awhile based on a food influencers recommendation. Since I was in the area for work training, I made sure to find the time to try it out. For appetizer, I ordered the Queso. It was good but would have been better with something added in. They have three options for additions (chorizo, chicharon, and rajas I believe). Tacos: Short rib barbacoa-flavorful, just wish it had a bigger slice of avocado Spicy shrimp- absolutely delicious, all the flavors worked well together Dessert: Flan-omg!!!!! Best flan I have had. When it came it had two spoons so I'm not sure if the portion is meant for two people to share. However I ate damn near the whole thing myself. My food came cold, the cheese in one tortilla dry and burned, the tortilla hard, not warm at all. The steak was very dry. And they had no hot homemade salsa. Just tomatillo salsa. And it is served right of the refrigerator. Bad news. They had Tabasco and Cholula for the salsa??!! Won't be going back. The female server with a long gray braid was very pleasant. Happy 4th of July! We made reservations for 4 on the patio and were seated right away. Our server Cameron took great care of us and made sure we had chips and salsa throughout our dinner. We started the night off with margaritas!! Wow, they were perfect in size and taste. I savored the skinny spicy margarita and the hubs enjoyed the classic. The chips and salsa were crispy and tasty. The carrot habanero was my fav, it had a nice kick! I started off with the elote, it was good, cheesy and grilled to a charred perfection. The spicy shrimp taco was my favorite, not too spicy but buttery and cooked perfectly. The carne asada was all the rave, it was good but I wanted more. Saturday afternoon was easy for us to walk in and get a table. I would definitely recommend indoor seating because we watched flies through the windows landing on other people's food. This place is absolutely incredible!! It's one of places that I must go to whenever I go from SF to Sacramento. A bit more driving it is but well worth it. To start off they serve you chips with 4 kinds of salsa, all of which are so tasty in their own way that sometimes it's hard to decide which salsa you want on your next bite! Next their tacos are huge, absolute units. The size is more than satisfactory. Their fillings are bold and have layers of flavor which show their care and craft. Me and my friend we've basically tried everything on their menu by now and we've developed our own little ranking of what to order. For us, the absolute must gets are the pork belly, roadkill, al pastor, porky shrimp tacos! Well NixTaco wasn't what I had hope it would be. The restaurant was average in size, decor, and cleanliness. The food was over priced for the quality of the food. I ordered 4 tacos Total, Carne Asada, Queso Birria, Caritas, and the Al Pastor. Both pork tacos were very salty, the Al Pastor completely missed the mark. The Queso Birria was decent but was lacking in flavor, and just dont order the Carne Asada. The best part of my experience was the servers, they were welcoming and attentive to our needs. The ambiance is a little loud, with a lively, casual vibe. Our server was friendly, smiley, & attentive. He poured us our waters & left us a cold glass bottle of water. He also presented the complimentary chips & salsas, explaining the 4 flavors. They were a great way to start! We also got a Paloma which was refreshing. Was very excited to try this place, especially after its Michelin recognition. Don't let the strip mall location phase you. While the vibe is very much neighborhood watering hole but I suppose being in Roseville makes everything a little more upscale. Very cool decor all around the restaurant, but they are definitely selling their T-shirts, as well as themselves, with all the framed newspaper clippings on the walls. There are a lot of staff working very hard, and they all seem very friendly and welcoming. We were offered a quartet of salsas ranging from mild to spicy. The second one was a peanut chipotle, very good flavor. The mild was also extremely good for a basic salsa verde. The last one was very flavorful but a little too spicy for my (weak) taste. We noticed the bar was well stocked, even with Pliny the Elder on draft, but they don't seem to have a soda stream. Our Diet Coke was from a can. We ordered the Mac N' Chich, a macaroni and cheese with pork belly and chicharron dust. It was very good, very flavorful. We also ordered a variety of tacos to share. I enjoyed every taco, but I don't think there was anything extraordinary. I think my favorites were the combination shrimp, and the barbacoa. The octopus one was a little bit of a let down. What is the best taqueria doing in a Roseville strip mall!? We found this place while looking for lunch driving home from Tahoe. We walked in at 11:30 on a sunday and got the last table- it was already packed. The tacos were some of the best we've ever had and we're obsessed with their salsa too. Wow! What an experience each taco was made to perfection and true culinary experience. I had the pork belly taco and the nixtaco combination. Followed by home made fresh crunchy chicharrones with just a lite sprinkle of limon and chile. It's was so lite and airy melted in my mouth. The pork belly taco was my favorite. Slow roasted belly slab,glazed with star anise and coriander infused honey. The slab pork belly had a little crunch and blended nicely on top of the homemade blue corn tortilla. The Nixtaco combo was loaded with shrimp and beans bold flavors without being overwhelming. I ended up ordering the churro for dessert lite airy served warm with a Carmel Sauce very authentic. Delicious tacos! Loved the huge variety of choices on the menu, including a number of vegan options. Quite a bit pricier than what I'm used to paying for a taco, coming out at $6-$7.50 per taco and the tacos aren't big (street taco sized), but I could definitely tell that the ingredients and meats were of high quality. Service was excellent and staff were super friendly. Really enjoyed the complementary salsas and the server gave me a generously sized extra salsa (my favorite, the carrot one) to go. The specially made corn tortillas, the fresh ingredients, the unique flavor of each taco was something to remember. It is no surprise they have a Michelin Bib Gourmand award. We ordered the pork belly taco, combo taco, quesobirria taco, shrimp taco, Pork al Pastor Taco. The BEST tacos I have had, hands down. The Beef Birria taco was served on their house corn tortilla, grilled with beef drippings and Oaxaca cheese. The consommé was so flavorful! The pork belly taco was perfectly cooked, tender with just the right amount of crisp and is a honey glazed belly slab, served on a bed of refried beans and grilled cheese, with peanut chipotle sauce. OMG! Must try if you love pork belly. They were all honestly wonderful and would absolutely order again. We each ordered a margarita. We had the mango the classic. The mango flavor was so good and fresh! In terms of seating, they have a bar and regular seating inside and patio seating outside. Since it was about 106 outside we opted to sit inside. Had a great meal at Nixtaco! When I was researching places to eat in the Sacramento area, I found Nixtaco on the Michelin guide and was super interested in their offerings. I made a reservation online for lunch on a Saturday, and was promptly seated when I arrived. My server was super nice and asked if it was my first time here, and they explained the different salsas that came complimentary with chips. The salsas were really tasty, and they even offered another bowl of chips when we were low! As for the other food, my party ordered chicharrones, a carne asada taco, octopus taco, and al pastor burrito. The chicharrones were SO good and probably the highlight for me. I loved the sprinkle of chili lime on them, and when they came out they were crackling. You could definitely tell they were fresh! As for the tacos, I really liked the carne asada taco. It's different than your traditional carne asada taco, and the grilled onions were a great addition. The octopus taco was also good, and it didn't have the seafood-y smell that you get sometimes, which was good. It was also cooked really well, perfectly soft and not rubbery. The al pastor was good, but next time I'd probably get it in a taco instead of a burrito. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. My party opted to sit inside since it was quite warm. Came here on a busy Wednesday night. The place was packed and for a table of five we were told ~20-minute wait. We headed to the bar--small space, only a handful of seats--only to find out our table was ready almost immediately. Off to a promising start! The biggest surprise? A speakeasy-style experience. We walked through the kitchen to another room set up for larger parties. Unexpected but a fun touch! We were served chips with four types of salsa. Heads up--the hot one is actually hot. Loved it. I had their gin and tonic--refreshing af. For apps, we went with the queso and guac, both solid choices with the chips. For tacos, I went with their signature tacos: spicy shrimp, asada, and pork belly. They definitely don't skimp on the protein. Shrimp taco: My least favorite. The shrimp were perfectly cooked (five decently sized pieces!), but the flavor fell flat--missing that spicy kick I was expecting. Asada taco: Loaded with protein. Honestly, I could've used an extra tortilla to split it in two. Bold flavor, would order again. Pork belly taco: The standout. Perfect size, and the sauce tied everything together. For dessert, we ordered churros and flan. The churros were bigger than expected. Crispy on the outside, soft inside--just how they should be. I skipped the flan, but my coworkers gave it a thumbs-up. I wanted to support this newer restaurant that was getting a lot of reviews so I stopped by. Each small taco was $7.50 at minimum. So I got the "spicy" shrimp taco (I asked no onions on my meal and the server let me know this normally has caramelized onions but wasnt listed as that on the menu) and a carnitas taco no onion. The amount of oil on the corn tortillas was really displeasing. I had to dab it with my napkins and it still was super oily. The shrimp taco was $8 and all it had was mozzarella cheese, 4 shrimps, and salsa molcajete. Again only 1 taco and the tortillas are about 5 inches diameter. Literally was expecting some cool inventive sauce or something about this that would make it worth $8. The carnitas taco was even worse I couldn't finish it. After dabbing the oil off, the first bite made me stop chewing. The meat was giving a flavor of like actual pigs in a pen. It was tasting like the smell of a literal pig pen. I tried to just chew the meat and it was definitely the meat. Idk what seasoning they are putting on the carnitas meat but it was horrendous. I asked for the check and did leave $5 for the server as he was great. I looked around as I left I saw people leaving flan after a few bites on their empty tables so I'm glad I didn't order that. I am Mexican so I think this place was made for the people who don't understand authentic Mexican food. If you're Mexican give it a try and see for yourself. This place seems like it would be found in Midtown Sacramento not in a neighborhood in Roseville. The server immediately came to greet us and brought us drinks and then chips with salsa. Loved the flight of salsas here. It was fun for the 4 people at my table as we all tried a little bit of each one; from mild to spicy. My favorite was the chipotle, it was creamy and tangy. Next our order of guacamole came. Perfect consistency! So flavorful. Topped with pickled red onions and micro greens this was some of the best guac I've had in recent memory and might be the highlight of my time here. The tacos here are super unique with choices like shrimp, pork belly, fried chicken it's hard to choose. Not to be forgotten are the traditional choices like pastor, asada and carnitas. Really something for everyone. My favorite was the Roadkill taco. The smoky flavor really stood out and made it feel like the most traditional one of house made choices. The Nixtaco was massive and had a lot going on. Loved the huge shrimp they use and the melted cheese blends perfect piled on the yummy tortillas. The fried chicken taco was very tasty and the Nashville hot spice was perfectly done with the juicy and crispy chicken. I'd order again on my next visit! What an awesome spot for some gourmet tacos! They used house made nixtamal blue corn tortillas which taste phenomenal and very authentic. I ordered a set amount of tacos: elote, short rib, and pork belly. My favorite out of the three was the pork belly because it had so much flavor from the honey glaze and peanut chipotle sauce. The tacos go for about $5-6 each so be prepared to spend. The short rib and elote taco were also good but nothing too special to me. I wasn't a fan of their Mac n cheese. It was bland and didn't have a cheesy kick; my son didn't even enjoy this and he loves Mac n cheese. I also ordered a carne asada burrito for $18! This isn't your typical burrito with the fillings; it's more of a gourmet version of La Taqueria's dorado burrito. It's stuffed with huge cubes of grilled steak, refried beans, caramelizes onions and to top off, grilled Oaxaca cheese. Everything came together nicely! It's delicious and they give generous portions of meat here which is my type of spot. Some might think it's overwhelming with meat but that's their style; plus you taste the quality and meat more. Please don't compare this place to a traditional taqueria. Instead, compare it to a top tier Mexican restaurant. Taqueria tacos and burritos look and taste different than these here but I love that they're both different. They also have an extensive selection of tequila at their bar which is always a plus. Stopped in on the way up to Tahoe and every taco we tried was fantastic. House-made tortillas were tasty and robust enough to corral the generous filling. Salsas were tangy, spicy and fresh, crisped cheese gave the tacos heft, and the proteins were perfectly prepared. We tried spicy shrimp (plump and super flavorful), octopus (tender but toothsome), fried chicken (crispy and not over breaded), mushroom (simple but mushroomy), and combination (nice flavors, but a lot going on and no standout star), but our favorite was the al pastor (rich and meaty but balanced by sharpness of the green salsa and pineapple). Highly recommend the refried beans--came piping hot in an iron skillet. Would be great for an app for dipping chips. Rice was also quite tasty. She came to get drink orders and as one of the ladies in the party was choking/coughing asked for water. She said ok and just stood there continuing with the drink orders when she could see she was uncomfortable. A while later she returns and seems literally surprised we were still there and asks, "do you guys want food?" I'm sorry what??? The place was small and not crowded. Stopped in last Thursday w/ my mom and son for lunch. Service was quick and helpful as usual. Mom had two shrimp tacos and my son and I each had a carne asada burrito. Not sure how to really rate this restaurant. The ambience is cute, the food is different than your average tacos but I just feel meh about it. I have been here a couple times but recently tried again with my husband because I'd never had some of the interesting tacos before, so we went. The service could have been better. We came in a few minutes after 4pm on a Saturday and we were told that if they gave us a booth, they would need it back by 530pm. We looked at each other and thought it was an odd request but agreed. We were seated and ordered some drinks. The beer he went to order was out (of course) so he ordered a different one. I ordered a pink panther. The drinks showed up way after our tacos were half eaten, and the drinks were just meh. I wouldn't order it again. The free chips were undercooked so they had a weird stale taste to them. The little salsa dishes were okay. Cute presentation. We ordered chicharrones that were decent and kept popping the entire time we ate them. Interesting. Then we ordered 4 tacos. 2 different shrimp ones - one had cheese melted the other had black beans I think it was. I believe the black bean one was supposed to be spicy? Then we had a pork belly in melted cheese and octopus in melted cheese. The flavors were good - but nothing to write home about in my opinion. I think it's cool they have octopus and pork belly - I recommend the pork belly for sure and the shrimp with black beans. I've tried to like this place but it just ain't for us. It's also expensive.
