Stopped in for dinner at this lovely Italian restaurant while in the city during the holidays. It did not disappoint! We went on a Wednesday night and it was Wine Wednesday where a selection of wine bottles are 50% off ($24 each) which is not a bad deal in NYC! We got red barbera wine, it was good and definitely hit the spot and added to our dining experience. We also had a cute view of a Christmas tree outside so it was a nice view for dinner during the holidays/ winter time. When we arrived, we were greeted by very kind staff members. I could see that it was very busy and we were the only ones who sat outside. Because of this, I think it took awhile for us to be served & attended to (close to 30 minutes) but the heaters were on so it wasn't the worst thing in the world, and we understood! When we were eventually served, the experience was great. Our server was quick to bring out our wine bottle and got our order in. We did have to ask for the bread & butter, although it seemed like 'complimentary bread service' based on other reviews, but once again, it was a busy night so we understood the reason for wait. Once we were able to get bread, it was hot and delicious. The burrata appetizer also exceeded expectations and we were very impressed with the creamy burrata and the delicious bread. We also ordered the gnocchi al forno, which was vegetarian and delicious. It was fluffy pillowy gnocchi with a tomato based sauce + classic mozzarella, parm, and bread crumbs. The bread crumbs added a great touch and nice crunch to the hot & tasty gnocchi. I devoured it and would recommend to all!! The pizza Bianca was also a show stopper. A few different white cheeses, Calabrian pepper, garlic, lemon, AND arugula... amazing ingredients that made a spectacular pizza. Perfectly crisp and just thin enough crust, this pizza was a hit. The combination of flavors was perfect & the arugula was the perfect touch to balance out the creamy cheese based pizza. Both entrees were phenomenal and I would honestly come here again. A friend told us that Nizza has good gluten free pizza and so my husband and I stopped by tonight and we were not disappointed! The interior is warm and inviting with a cute patio area to sit outside and the menu has a lot of options - including some great bottles of Italian wine. Brittney was our server and she did an excellent job - she was incredibly friendly and helpful with the menu. They have an entire gluten free menu with a lot of options that I was grateful for. Good place to sit outside on a spring evening and watch the sidewalk show that is Hell's Kitchen, NYC. NYC natives, tourists, delivery folks, homeless, newcomers, flamingos, every walk of life that weave the fabric of our city seem to pass through here. Ok, food was ok, wine was ok, service by Paul was good. Four of us shared everything, frito misto, burrata, meatballs, brocolini, Sunday gravy (sauce) sausage, short rib, meatball, with fusilli pasta, the branzino, some cocktails and a bottle of super Tuscan. Prices and portions were City centric. No complaints, but everything takes a backseat to the sensory overload of being in the vibrant environment. Good but not great food at a reasonable price. I got a mushroom pasta that was well executed but the mushrooms tasted like they were canned. Though it is technically wheelchair accessible, both the restaurant and the patio get packed. Fair enough, but when the staff is not thoughtful it makes for a difficult time getting to the table. I had an outdoor reservation and clearly noted that I use a wheelchair, yet they put us at a two top in a corner while there were other couples dining at four top tables that had much easier access closer to the door of the restaurant that they could have just as easily saved for us and sat the people who don't have wheelchairs in the less accessible spot. Would have been fair enough if it was a party of three or four that actually needed that space, but when it's a choice between any two people they should have thought about this. Luckily I could make it work after asking them to move some plants. I'm not sure if their restroom is accessible, but it probably would be hard to get to with how packed the tables are indoors. I love that they still have their outdoor seating and the heat lamps make it cozy. I will be back for that reason and that reason only as there are so few outdoor options now that the neighborhood Karens killed the sheds is disabled people have depended on throughout the pandemic. read more

Pretty nice place but the food itself is just okay. I ordered the Soppressata Pizza ($26 for a large 16 inch pizza). It was not bad but not that good either. The crust was a bit burned, and it could've used some more cheese (mozzarella). Also, the salami was a bit too salty, and they dumped a ton of raw arugula on top which was a bit too much. So this is to say that the pizza was just not that tasty in general, especially for the price. I also tried the Chicken Milanese ($25), which was actually quite good- the chicken was tender, flavorful, and nicely breaded/pan fried. It was nice that it came with a refreshing chopped tomato and mozzarella salad (including more arugula). Still not sure if this justified the price though. The interior of the restaurant is the best part, as it is quite nice with cool lighting that gives it a slightly dim yet trendy atmosphere. The place was pretty busy on a Friday night, but we were able to get a table without a reservation. The large number of people created for a lively atmosphere. The staff were pretty friendly and attentive. The service speed was a bit slow but not too bad. Overall, Nizza could be a not-too-bad option if you happen to be nearby and are looking for an Italian restaurant, but I personally will not be returning given the number of better alternatives around. read more

This is a cute little restaurant that's perfect for a pre-Broadway show meal. It also has a gluten free menu! It's a small space that can feel a bit cramped depending on where you are sitting. The food is solid but similar to other standard italian places. I started with the socca and the burrata which were both great. I got the spicy rigatoni vodka and really enjoyed it. Pan Fried Calamari was served hot and delicious with a lightly sprinkled seasoning which was a great touch. Salad with their house dressing was ice cold and dressing was delicious. We ate outdoors on the sidewalk/patio, due to the fantastic weather in early November, which was our primary reason for choosing Nizza. There was a lovely selection of wines by the glass, which satisfied the red & non-red wine preferences. The pasta was a bit basic, although the cacio y pepe dish was nicely seasoned, which compensated nicely. The Sunday sauce with quite runny, with meats that clearly added at serve time, rather than cooked into (flavor profiles were separate and not consistent throughout). The real downside here was the service. We spend nearly 20 minutes with empty wine glasses, and then after the food was delivered from the kitchen, we never heard from the wait staff again until we finally had to wave them down to get a check (about 30 minutes later). But the host at the front who also seemed to be the manger was kind of rude. When mentioned that I have a coupon she asked who gave this to me and had an attitude just because is had it . We've been to Nizza's dozens of times. The hubby likes the pomodoro with ricotta on the side. But it has 100% gone down in service and quality over the years. But yesterday was really the final draw. It literally took 20 minutes to get bread for our take out order. The hostess just kept saying it's in the oven, which was interesting that she kept repeating it since she never went back to check on it to know if it was still in the over. But, it wasn't just her. There was the young-ish server, probably about 5'7" who went back to check on it for me and who never returned, which probably wasn't because he was busy or in the weeds since I could see him just standing there chatting with another server, which shouldn't be confused with the two outside who stood by the door talking for nearly the entire time I was standing there. I know it was 20 minutes because I had my husband texting me asking me what was taking so long. I finally had to ask the manager to go back and check and he returned with what could only be described as cold, stale bread ... and not some bread just out of the oven. But even when we've gone and eaten there ourselves, it's literally been a group of servers who walk around in some panicked chaos like chickens with their head's cut off. Given how many good Italian restaurants there are in NYC, or just in the three block radius of Nizza, you'd think they'd have themselves in check or care about service, food quality or whether the get returning customers who aren't just unsuspecting passerbys. Let's face it. If it weren't for its location in the middle of 9th Ave, it would have shuttered long ago. Save yourself the aggravation and wasting your money and close your eyes and pick any one of dozens of nearby options. Nittis down the street has become a new favorite of ours. This was my second visit to Nizza. It was wonderful!! We had the delicious burrata which we shared. We also had the fava dip that was tasty but spicy. The branzino is excellent choice. We stopped by late at night on a Friday after seeing a show on Broadway and got seated immediately. We got the GF Sausage Pizza, GF Pasta with Pesto, and the Rigatoni. The crust on the pizza was not my favorite - I've definitely had better GF pizza crusts but I commend the effort to have a wide variety of GF options. The GF pasta on the other hand was so delicious, it almost tasted like regular pasta. Their sauces, both the pesto and the ragu were so light and fresh. I like that they cook their pasta al dente so there is still a bit of chew. I haven't been here in years, and I was so happy to come here tonight for dinner! First off, I love the small and intimate vibe. The Christmas decorations were also a great addition. Our server was friendly and attentive, without making us feel rushed. We got the focaccia to start. The whipped ricotta was the perfect dip! I loved the mix of flavors. The bartender however was so rude and treated us so differently, it was kind of racist.
