My husband and I came here for a late lunch after moving to the area a few months ago. The service was genuinely excellent -- the staff were incredibly friendly, patient, and thoughtful. There's a sign noting that food may take time (this isn't fast food), but everything came out in a reasonable timeframe and in the right order: drinks, appetizers, then entrées. We even witnessed the staff handle a very rude customer with impressive kindness and professionalism. The restaurant is simple and spacious, and we had plenty of room for our mobility devices without feeling in the way, which we really appreciated. We ordered the salty lemonade, strawberry shake with boba, rice cake appetizer, meatball pho, and combination fried rice. With tip, the total came to about $80 for two people. Overall, the food was good, though the pho left a bit to be desired. There was a slight sweetness or something missing from the broth, and the noodles absorbed a lot of liquid in the leftovers. It wasn't the best pho I've had, but not the worst -- the search for the best pho in the Triangle continues. My husband loved the fried rice and finished it entirely. Spring rolls were shrimp, lettuce, vermicelli noodles, mint/basil, and bean sprouts wrapped in rice paper served with a peanut sauce. Last the green papaya salad is shredded papaya tossed in a special soy sauce with basil on a lettuce bed and topped with sliced shrimp. Everything except the pork chops were on the appetizer section. The chicken definitely was not an appetizer size; it was basically an entree. My favorite is probably the papaya salad. Vietnamese papaya salad is tossed in a soy sauce concoction instead of fish sauce like Thai and Laos papaya salads. It has a more refreshing taste. Items I wish I had tried, the banh beo and banh cuon (rice rolls). Hope to return one day to explore more of the menu. I forgot to take pictures of the rest of our meal. But the one I took is the papaya salad. It's the Vietnamese version so the sauce was different with shrimp on top. My husband enjoyed it more than the Thai/Lao versions. He said it was refreshing and the flavor wasn't overpowering like the others. I also enjoyed it but I like both versions! After ordering the sweet and sour tofu, I had to request rice noodles and additional vegetables to create a complete meal, which I was charged for. I've never seen a sweet and sour pork or chicken dish served with just meat and lettuce, so I was surprised to find that this dish consisted solely of tofu and a dipping sauce on a small bed of lettuce. We are long time patrons of this restaurant. It's near our home, food is relatively good, typically nice customer service. Today the take out grilled chicken on vermicelli was sub par - the few pieces of leathery chicken were filled with tendon/gristle and while I ate around it at first, I decided that it was not worth paying for, especially since I have had a far superior version of this dish many times before in this place. So I waited till they opened up again, took the container back, explained to the owner, and she unceremoniously remarked about how I had eaten most of it (not true) and in a surprisingly aggressive manner said that the best she would do is a 50% discount. No. 1 Pho is my family's go-to place for good Vietnamese food. Their peanut sauce is how we know it's the real thing. I give 4 stars since service can be hit-or-miss. Some days it's prompt, on other days it takes a while. My latest visit was with three longtime friends. We split fresh and fried spring rolls and each got a hearty bowl of pho. The bowls come with veggies on the side. Add as much or as little as you like. My favorite drink is their boba tea. Think a slushy with boba balls at the bottom. Sweet and savory. I was visiting family in NC and stopped by for an early dinner. We got multiple entrees to go which they had ready within 30-35 mins. I'm upping them to 5 stars because they are my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the Cary area! I constantly eat here whether take out or dining in! My favorite are still the spring rolls (chao gio) because they make them with rice paper and it's perfect every time. I love that it comes with herbs and lettuce too if you want to wrap them. As for the dishes the best part is the variety of dishes here! I love that they have Banh cuon so much and hope they never get rid of it. We've tried the Banh hoi here too and it's delicious. But I take what is available and this place had curry chicken with the Baquette... the curry itself was pretty good and the chicken was tender, but wish it was more traditional with bone in chicken with carrots and potatoes.... the Baquette was ehhh it's not your traditional Baquette you see at a vietnamese place . The steamed rice cakes were good and was a surprise since those are hard to find ! This place did them pretty well. The shocker and well welcomed thing I ordered was the Egg soda with condensed milk ... dont let the raw egg in your drink mess with your mind ... this is actually a pretty good and sweet drink and has very good flavors to it ... it's like drinking a frothy creamy soda . ! First time at this establishment, first thing I do after I sit down is check-in on Yelp for all the yelpers out there. After I checked-in, I received a 10% off coupon; however, the waitress proceeded to let me know that they no longer honor this coupon because of the scammers out there previously who took advantage of it. The pho is served with bean sprouts, jalapeño peppers, and mint, per usual. They serve it with sliced lemons instead of lime. This place did not disappoint. They sell boba tea, boba shake or boba slush, but do not offer any milk substitutions. 4-stars because our coupon wasn't honored and service took much longer than expected. This place is great. I'm giving it a 5 star because you can find Vietnamese cuisine that stretches beyond pho, banh mi, and rice plates. I ordered the banh xeo and the banh beo. The banh xeo is a crispy crepe shaped pancake with pickled radish, shrimp and minced pork. It comes with lettuce to wrap the pancake in and fish sauce to dip in. It was very refreshing and crunchy. The banh beo are little soft and chewy rice cakes filled wi try fried onions and other toppings. Been going here quite a few times and tried a number of dishes like bánh cuốn, bánh xèo, bún bò huế, chả giò, etc, but my fav is bún chả, this is a Hanoi dish that I grew up with and love. It's not the same but still hit the spot when you're craving something. Highly recommend it. The drinks are really good as well! I love the salted plum, it's tangy and sweet, a little salty, will give give you a bit of zing on your tongue when you sip it. Ambiance is nice, clean. Nothing to complain or compliment really. This is one of my favorite Vietnamese places because their bánh hỏi platter is SO GOOD! I got the one with all three (shrimp, spring rolls, pork) and I dreamt about it for days. All the proteins were well seasoned and cooked. My partner who had not tried this dish before even agreed it was delicious. If you're not familiar with bánh hỏi, you wrap it yourself in the rice paper wraps by wetting the paper first, layering the ingredients, wrap it like a burrito, then you dip in fish sauce as you take each bite. Their fish sauce is also really good and just well balanced in flavor. The small attention to detail I liked was the scallion oil! As a Vietnamese person, it's a really small detail that's not always essential but does elevate it. When I feel lazy to make it, I know I can depend on this place to serve up a good platter :) On the other hand, the pho was also good but it was a really small portion unfortunately. We continued to wait a total of 20 minutes just for the appetizer of 4 egg rolls. The pho then came next. Finally as being a elite I checked in and was given a 10% off our order for checking in. When presented to the staff they quickly advised that management does not take the Yelp coupon. I didn't say anything but wanted yelp to know they are advertising a check in offer but they will not honor it! The service was very very slow as they appeared to be more concerned with there Togo orders than The actual patrons inside. Now the food. The egg rolls were ok. They were very aesthetically pleasing on the plate but lacked flavor and appeared to be very bland. We ordered the #1 pho which is a mix of beef and the #10 which comes with bbq beef. The pho broth completely threw me off. It was very sweet almost like sugar was added to it. It was a clear broth but still did not taste like traditional pho I've had in the past. On a positive note the beef tasted great and the quality was much better than most. Overall I should have not cheated on my traditional pho but now I know! I love their grilled pork! It's a flavor bomb in your mouth so I totally recommend it. I don't recommend the fried egg rolls (cha gio), pho, and the avocado smoothie. The cha gio is in rice wrapper, instead of the wonton egg wrapper so I don't like it that much. Great if you're gluten-free. Pho broth is average and has a musty aftertaste. Pho noodles are good. The avocado smoothie isn't made with real avocado unfortunately and tasted more like a honeydew smoothie with a can of soda worth of sugar. As they were making the smoothie, I was disappointed to see that they were using flavor powder and milk. The worst part is they charge $5 for it. Husband learns lesson to always check before leaving. The next day, husband calls and talks to the owner. Owner claims everything was done properly and acted as if none of the snafus occurred...denies it all happened. We were regular customers and won't ever return. Oh, they they kept $80+ for our original order, which we never received. (And we can't eat the new order the cook made when we have no idea what it was and are allergic to some ingredients.) Everyone, try Red Bowl if you want good Asian food and fantastic service. Taste of Vietnamese is a darn good option too. Pho 919 is another good option. I got eggrolls, their special pho, and the Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. While the pho was good and the herbs were fresh, I've had better and more fragrant broth elsewhere. Also, I did not get any tendons even though my bowl should've came with some. Their eggrolls are a must though. Super crispy and the filling is flavorful.
