    Shoyu Whiskey Ramen

I'd been waiting for months to return to Tojo after the fire shut them down, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Walking in, the staff greets everyone warmly, setting a welcoming tone right away. There are plenty of tables to the left, and the bar seating overlooks the kitchen which is a great touch that lets you watch the team work their magic. The food is exceptional. Everything is prepared with care and intention, and it shows. The ramen, especially, is outstanding: the broth has an incredibly deep, rich flavor. You can tell just from looking at it how much thought goes into it, and from tasting it how much work is behind every bowl. This is a must-visit spot, especially on cold or rainy days. Warm, comforting, and delicious. Tojo easily continues to serve the best ramen in the state.

Loved visiting here today. Waitress was so awesome n friendly for our group of 6. The onigiri was amazing. Chicken n bao buns, shrimp , multiple dinners. The grape drink and shiso was totally refreshing got to learn to make it at home. The spicy pork. Beware. Brutal spicy. Actually too much for us. I wish it was knocked down a few notches . But thank you for a great lunch experience!

I absolutely love -love- love coming here! I was hooked from my first visit! Hits the spot just right on a cold winter evening! Small and cozy! Staff is unbelievably sweet! Service is fast and reliable! Ramen is YUMMY!!!!

We had the onigiri set and it was delicious and fresh! The ramen broths were also so good and tasty! restaurant was very cozy and service was kind and friendly!

Classic and can't go wrong! Tonkatsu Ramen (I think- memory fails me!) but top notch broth

Still amazing food, authentic and great quality. Wish I had taken more photos but we wolfed down the food too fast!! We met friends for a dinner meet and found that this place has 're-opened' recently. Still awesome food with a few added items. What an authentic gem in the heart of HoHoKus

Finally they are back!! I had Ebi(shrimp) mayo and shoyu whiskey ramen. It was really tasty. If you crave or want to try authentic Japanese food, this is the place! They have many kinds of ramen also rice bowls. Also service is good and fast too!! I'll definitely come back :)

First things first I love that they have their own parking but they also have pretty close street parking. Food was very good and tasty. It wasn't overly salty at all. The ramen was very flavorful and filling. The buns were a lot more bun than Karaage but still well cooked and yummy. I had the Thai ice tea and loved it! I love how they presented it. The presentation of all food was very insta worthy. Service was great , I was greeted upon entrance and was told about the popular items on the menu. Only part that sucked was they were out of all desserts. Also there's barely any telephone service here and no wifi. Ambiance is for a casual outing. Space isn't to big but can easily maybe sit 20 people max.

This is my second time getting ramen from here and let me tell you, I will be going back for more soon!!! It's so delicious. The pork Gyoza is very good too, I recommend it!

Blu Sushi is the perfect mix of deliciousness, affordability, and fantastic service. I've gone there for my lunch around three times these past two weeks and each time I've had a wonderful experience. Their lunch special is super affordable. You can get 2 rolls for the less than I spend for one at many of the other restaurants in Ridgewood. However, despite that, it honestly tastes the best out of many of the places I've gone to. Also, if you are up for spending more, they have a fantastic selection of appetizers and special rolls that you can try again (I recommend the dynamite shrimp). When I go, I normally get the 2 roll option from the lunch menu. Typically, I have the spicy salmon and the spicy tuna rolls when I order that. Regarding those rolls, they are first and foremost delicious. You can tell that fresh their fish is and how much time and dedication they put into their sushi with each bite. Furthermore, they are spicy--but not too spicy. When you have them you are able to enjoy every aspect of the roll without being completely overwhelmed by the spice. Additionally, they add something crunchy to the rolls which take them from just a tasty lunch to a full experience. Most importantly though, the service and ambiance is fantastic. Every time I've been there I've only been treated with kindness and consideration. They are very willing to talk with you about their dishes, share some interesting facts about it (like how they came up with the dynamite shrimp), and more. But the best part about it is that they remember you. That honestly meant a lot to me. I know that this whole review was a lot of me ranting, but I honestly mean it. If you are looking for a nice, quaint, delicious, affordable, and hospitable meal--Blu Sushi is the place for you.

Lots of ingredients and the broth was just the right level of flavor. = Sushi Regular - Good sushi overall, but the rice was a litttttle too soft to the point that the sushi was falling apart. Fish was very fresh though and presentation was excellent. + Spicy Salmon, Spicy Yellowtail, Spicy Cooked White Fish - Shocked at how good the rolls actually were. There was only 1-2 layers of rice, at most, around the sushi and there was a lot of fish filling for the rolls. Fish was very fresh and delicious. Also, once again, presentation of the entree was excellent. THE SERVICE ------------------- + Friendly waitresses throughout the staff. + Food came out fairly quickly. Yet in many Japanese restaurants, I've found that no matter when I revisit and order their omakase, the dishes, from appetizers to sushi and sashimi, all remain the same. Thankfully, this was not the case at Shumi. Here, the chefs truly strive to create edible masterpieces. I had the pleasure of enjoying innovative appetizers along with nigiri that simply melted in my mouth. Shumi's omakase was once priced at $150 per person, but in a thoughtful move to accommodate their customers, they adjusted it to $95 per person without compromising the quality of their fish. I will note that the pieces are smaller, but they still deliver the freshest taste. The staff is exceptionally gracious, dedicated to ensuring a wonderful dining experience. They are quick to replenish your tea or fill your glass as soon as it's half empty. I did, however, find the restaurant a bit chilly, and the music was a little too loud, making it difficult to hear the staff as they described each type of fish. For those who followed Master Chef Kunihiko "Ike" Aikasa from the original Shumi in Somerville, he sold that business before opening this new location in Ridgewood, which has been open since 2017. Here, he has partnered with owner David Seo. The aesthetic of the new restaurant remains clean and bright. In a competitive town like Ridgewood, where locals expect restaurants to bring their A-game, Shumi has obviously stood the test of time. I wish them many more years of excellence. Rating scale: Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4.5/5 Food: 5/5 Overall: I'd give it 4.5 stars, but I rounded it up to 5 stars.

However, it did get pretty busy around 7 PM, but there were still available seats. For a restaurant in this area, it was pretty big with quite a few tables inside. The menu was very typical of any local neighborhood Japanese restaurant - Japanese soups and salads, appetizers, entrees like teriyaki dishes, noodles/udons, rice entrees and lots of different sushi and sushi rolls. Nothing on the menu will blow you away or be surprising, but it'll satisfy your Japanese food craving if that's what you're seeking. Our family ordered Edamame and Fried Gyoza to start and both were good. The Gyoza was actually better than I anticipated, arriving at our table hot and crispy. For entrees, we ordered our kids the Salmon Teriyaki, which was solid. There was a lot of teriyaki sauce on the salmon and the salmon was not overly cooked or dry, so that was a plus. I ordered 3 regular sushi rolls - Spicy Crab, Spicy Yellowtail and Spicy Salmon - and all were good and pretty much what I expected. My wife ordered the Sushi Regular, which came with 8 pieces of sushi and a California Roll. Once again, all good. Nothing that was off about any of it. We also ordered a Nabeyaki Udon, but I didn't get to try any of it, however, our kids ate a lot of it, which was a good sign that it was good. However, they were plenty busy with takeout orders. Service was quick as the waiter took our order down and our food was out within MINUTES! I ordered the Shoyu Ramen, which was a pretty good ramen considering they weren't a restaurant that specialized in ramen. The ramen was very tasty and like any other I've ordered from legit ramen restaurants. My wife ordered a custom poke bowl, which we've ordered many times before for pickup. The bowl was MASSSIVE and seemingly much bigger than what they typically give for takeout orders, although their takeout poke bowls are very generous too. For our kids, we ordered the House Special Fried Rice, which came with eggs and Chinese sausage. It was a solid fried rice and we were quite surprised it came with Chinese sausage because it's an ingredient we rarely see used for fried rice entrees at restaurants. Overall, our dining experience here was good and we loved that it was nice and quiet. It never got super busy, but a few parties did come in after us. The bread and butter of their business is definitely takeout though.
