Friday night saw drinks at No.5 Cavendish Square, and to be honest I wasn't overly impressed! Luckily I had great company and that made the evening worth while. I thought the building itself was stunning, and the decor was incredible, but the staff weren't the nicest I'd had! As there were events on all floors I didn't get to take any photographs, and the ones online are pretty rubbish! The drinks however were very reasonably priced with happy hour, we were getting 4 bottles of Peroni for £10 so the night wasn't as pricey as I had first thought it would be! I doubt I will be rushing back due to the rude staff , but we had a great night drinking and laughing with my work friends! read more

I've recently spent a couple of afternoons at this posh private members club for meetings and have so far been very impressed. It's certainly not the sort of place I'd go for nights out and I certainly don't intend to start buying meals there - let's just say everything has the private member price tag - but it feels remarkably unsnooty and pretty damn friendly for what's supposed to be an exclusive place. It does bug me though, that the waiters have been instructed to keep filling your glass if it drops below a certain level - last time I was there I felt like I was being forced to drink gallons of water! I've been to No 5 Cavendish quite a few times now but always for an event, whether a product launch or press day, and that's exactly what this does best. The location is really central, just a couple of minutes walk from Oxford Circus in fact which adds to its appeal. The decor is incredibly indulgent and lavish and some of the bedrooms have the most unusual colour schemes. Think rich burgundy and navy blue for example. The lift is tiny and moves when you stand in it... not for those with a slight phobia of plummeting to their death. The staff have always been quite friendly but I imagine the prices are astronomical. Would I saunter along for a quiet drink? Probably not, but if I were to host an event then this is a location that really would make a lasting impact. It's posh but not too pretentious and they do cocktails and canapes really well. This place sucks on every level. The staff pout and look like they are chewing on nettles washed down with bee stings. The furniture is trying so hard that it begs to be returned to the Southerby's reject department. The garden resembles the sort of place the victorians probably used as an outside toilet. Worst of all the barstaff take the exorbitant price that would make Warren Buffet blush and add a 12.5% kicker for the 'service' charge that you neither asked for nor intended to pay. This is LONDON sweetheart, not Dubai or Singapore and this place deserves to be boycotted on cultural, aesthetic, economic, sartorial and ethical grounds. Dont go. Just dont go. I have only visited number 5 for lunch or for events related to work, I have to agree with some of the comments below that it wouldnt be my choice to go here in the evenings. For drinks its fine, although the prices are high and the quality can be better elsewhere, Lunch on the two times so have experienced it has always been very good and the service has been attentive. There seems to be an awful lot going on here, rooms, hotel, bar, clubs, resturant etc and again i agree that some times it feels they are trying too hard and soon enough the theme and bright decor will become dated as its already starting to look tired. read more

First of all, I want to say that as a person used to putting up with the usual nonsense of 'high end' London venues, I thought I had seen it all...until this Saturday just gone. A few friends of mine and myself decided to host our birthday celebrations, with the help of an Events/Promotions company at No 5 Cavendish Sq. We had a guest list of around 70 people, all close family and friends. We arrived at the venue on time at 10:30, waited patiently in the rain until 11.25 when they decided to let people in. Guests were charged a fairly expensive yet standard £20 entry (previously we were told it would only be £15 but they lied, so guests obviously angry) and shown to our 'table' (a tacky looking corner booth which looked like it had been hijacked from a 1990s Wimpy) it was barely big enough to seat 10 people. The dancefloor is also smaller than an Ewok shower cubicle. The next thing we know is that, a few of our family members who were in the queue just behind us are having trouble getting in, there is an elderly lady who operates on the door and she was being instructed by the 'manager' not to let them in, no reason was given for this. It was a mixed group of gents and ladies. I calmly tried to ask the manager why this was the case and he threatened to have me ejected from the venue. Again no reason was given for this. A great way to be treated at your birthday event. Luckily, a friend of a family member had some connection to the owner of this establishment and decided to call this person.... The short and insecure 'manager' returned and with the elderly lady on the door decided to very rudely let my family members in. Followed by phrases like "FINE. Let them in, but make them WAIT" (apply manager's theatrical hand gestures). This however was not the end of the terrible case of CHAVendish No 5. In total we were buying 5 bottles at this club between a few of us (yes it is quite an investment) ...so you would think they would treat you as a guest. No. They act like you are doing them a favour! The nerve of the waitress to tell us that if we pay by debit card she will charge an extra £125 for "service" as she put it. Then she later back tracked on this and stated that if we tip her well she will forget about it!! SHOCKING! And. It. Does. Not. End. There. Texts and calls began to flood in saying people couldn't get in and the elderly lady on the door was being obstructive to the people on our guestlist. I tried to speak with the staff again but guess what, more rudeness and no joy. Apparently our guestlist was only for 30 people and we had maxed it out, despite agreeing a 70 person guestlist in advance with No 5 Cavendish and the Events Company way in advance. This was pretty pathetic as even the most simplest of venues can operate and deliver on a guestlist without the pomp of declining paying guests who are on the guestlist, when the club is 10% full. My friends were skeptical about this venue and I put my faith in it, along with a trusted Events Company. Both bombed massively. People had made the effort especially to attend from far and wide yet No 5 Cavendish were too arrogant to appreciate this. One of the birthday boys who was hosting the night with me was forced to buy a seperate table with bottles to get in. Now how does that work when there are people on other guestlists waltzing in with their CONVERSE TRAINERS on, and yes, the club and tables are still half empty as it's early into the night. HONESTLY. IT'S NOT EVEN THAT NICE INSIDE, THAT THEY THINK THEY ARE A TOP LONDON VENUE. So, to summarise... if you: Want to spend your birthday here. Be spoken to like you are garbage. By a 'manager' with short man syndrome and a menopausal old bat on the door. Have half your guests who queued in the rain for an hour turned away and the other half barely getting in. (Whilst venue is still fairly empty). Then be financially implicated by the venue staff to satisfy their "Service" charge. Then go ahead and contact this place for booking details! I myself will never return. Unlikely anyone who attended on the 70 person guestlist would either. Even the Events Company used as the middle man have shamed themselves for not fore-warning us all of the antics of No 5's incompetent staff/management. As the down to earth bouncers and talented DJ informed me: "This happens every week here". Here's a tip: BACK TO BASICS. Good manners and a smile won't harm your business. My parents taught me that. Can't give this club enough credit for last weekend when I celebrated my birthday - I had a mixed group of 30 come down, we were in the queue for when the club opened and all got let in within 10 minutes. Once in a lovely PR company invited us to their table and once they knew it was my birthday they brought out some drinks for my group, it was such a nice surprise! The bar staff were quick, music was great and the nicest part was the guys in my group were really well looked-after..... some other clubs have made them wait in line, made them buy a table or excluded them from PR tables but No.5 looked after my group so so well, definitely going back! read more

Wow. I had a blast here at the Hot House Maiden Melee (http://londonist.com/2009/05/review_the_hot_house_maiden_melee.php) . It's a gorgeous venue with a touch of class. The location can't be beat either. Of course, reading the other Qype reviews makes me wonder if I'd have liked it on a regular night (it's certainly not within my usual budget). So, I guess I can say, I'd go back for a particular event but I wouldn't necessarily make a special effort to go there just for a night out. read more

This is one of those elite London clubs, apparently the owner is one of the many princes of Bahrain. This is a guest list or a 'who you know' kind of place and of course with these kind of places you can always expect the ego's upon ego's upon ego's. However, I didn't find Cavendish bouji at all, it definitely has an elite element to it, more so than I have ever seen in any club before, but maybe this was because I spent the first part of the evening in VIP with some friends. VIP is not much to write home about, it's literally a large living room with a few mahogany dining room style tables and chairs, carpeted floors and wallpaper, it's very quiet and I have been told that this is where people come to do 'business!' No5 is as it says, number 5 Cavendish Square, it's situated among all the other beautiful houses on Cavendish square and without it's pink lighting you would assume from the outside that this was just another house. Apparantely it is the refurbished Spanish Embassy establishment. The club's décor definitely pays homage to the fact that it is a converted house, the VIP section as mentioned is a dining room stroke front room, the main dance area is a varnished floor boarded back room, with sofa's and French windows that open onto a patio'd garden/smoking area. It is actually really cool and gives a nice, homely feel to a night out clubbing. No5 is an ideal place to celebrate a special occasion, a Friday night or a pay cheque! You can flutter between the living room, the lounge and the dining room just try not to make yourself feel to at home! read more

More fake people than a manakin factory. Its hideous drinks cost force this to be elitist, and i use that in the loosest sense as its more about dads credit card then a refined crowd! The decor is eye pleasing and a nice but small outdoor area to rear of building. Lots of rooms to change your scene and stretch your legs. When it goes more club like late on, thats when it really turns into a rather sad place to be. Hey if your thing is to tell the girls how big your car is and to show how much columbian you have back at your Chelsea pad this is 100% for you. IF not give it a miss.. read more

We went there for a Sunday brunch, which is an affordable option to eat at this place. We were seated upstairs on a beautiful room with nice views over the square. The service was excellent and the food, very well presented, was quite good indeed, although I wouldn't say fantastic. The price, considering it is the whole experience that counts, was quite reasonable for this rather upmarket venue. read more

No 5 is supposed to be a private members club. Every time I visit my expectations are not met. Ladies can get in as long as they look right. It is very hard for men to get in, they have a better chance if they come in a mixed group or know the management. The weekdays (thursday) are the best nights. The DJ's are good and the crowd appreciate the music. The men are also easy on the eye. Do not visit on the weekends unless you like the meet market wag wannabee crowds. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The decor is lovely. Go downstairs (monroes) if you like VERY dated hip-hop. You can definitely shake your shimmy to it BUT only after you've had a few. The drawing room is great for socialising and dancing. This club will become your marmite. You don't like it but somehow you become drawn to it. read more

Wow, Great night had by all, we attended for a friends 30th birthday....and had a blast!!!!!! Sexy, glam girls and guys, an eclectic mix of music and not forgetting the atmosphere, almost like dancing round your own home but a much more glamorous version for me anyway.....as No5 Cavendish Sq, is a club in an extravagant House, Genius!!! Drinks are expensive but just the same as any high end establishment in Central London. Cant wait to boggie there again. read more

NEVER AGAIN: Stayed at this hotel for a week for business. The Service is simply horrible. so many issues with the facilities. No water for more than 3 days, electricity blackout. Took them so long to fix it. This was a horrible "hotel" to stay in particularly on a night when I needed to be fresh and prepared for the next day. I have stayed in far more comfortable cleaner hotels in London with more polite staff for a 1/3 of the price. Asked for an invoice, it been 2weeks and they still haven't send it to me yet. They do not answer to the phone or email. Unacceptable for this kind "hotel". Moreover the Sunday Rooftop BBQ event (Namely Rooftop BBQ Party: All-You-Can-Eat Grill) All I can say that this was the worse, unorganized and ridiculous event I have ever been to in my life. We arrived at 5:10pm and want straight into the line for the BBQ. We were in line for an hour and 45 minutes for the 'all you can eat bbq' which, plainly, looked like it was ran by a bunch of jokers!! Numerous people in the QUE complained AND to top it all off, after reaching the front of the Que at 6:30pm, they had run out of plates! What a joke - for an event deemed 'all you can eat' (I should also mentioned there was about 15 sausages cooked and about 10 chicken wings, with 30+ people in the que behind us!) At this point we again, waited another 20 minutes as, in the words of the gentleman operating this Fiasco at the actual BBQ 'We have had to send someone to Tesco to get paper plates'. After this 20 minute additional wait for plates we decided to give in, we grabbed a napkin and simply had our TWO pieces of chicken and a cold Quorn, not meat, sausage that was given to us. 1hour 45 minutes for two pieces of dodgy cooked piece of chicken and a cold sausage. Do not waste your time or money - head to side street chicken store and get yourself higher grade chicken at the same price (yes, that's how bad the food was at this place) While the concept sounds great - Rooftop BBQ - It is run by Sunday Job Jokers, Delivering a poor meal (its not hard to cooked sausages and chicken lads - appears it takes you, what feels like, 12 years for a piece of meat ) and 'All you can eat' advertisement is simply a joke!!! read more

wow. had a great time here usually £20 squiddlys to get in, we were lucky enough to be in the know and got on a free list!!! if i could afford it i would make this my local!!! amazing doorstaff , very friendly and attitude free. very cosy and chilled inside. only down side was the drinks prices and the roof terrace wasnt open. maybe next time. music was dancey mixed with some r'n ' b.. and if you are on the prowl with your girlys there are some very attractive and friendly menif only i was a vip !!! lol read more
