I came across No 5 a couple of month ago, due to some friends recommendation and wow it's a very nice club.

Honestly, pretty disappointing experience…read more First off, you have to pay a cover just to get in, which would be fine if the experience matched--but it didn't. Once inside, it was packed and really hot (especially compared to how cold it was outside), so naturally we had jackets with us. There were stools around the club and we put our jackets on them like many other people were doing. A female security staff member came over multiple times telling us we couldn't put our jackets there, even though others were doing the exact same thing and we were right next to it. The way she handled it came off unnecessarily rude and aggressive, which really killed the vibe for us. On top of that, the bathroom attendant was basically pressuring people to tip just for handing out paper towels, which felt uncomfortable and awkward. Overall, between the inconsistent rules, the attitude from staff, and the pressure for tips, it just wasn't an enjoyable experience. Definitely expected better.

The place is a little small and you don't get much service in there as it's like a small basement downstairs. They have a coat check and also a happy hour if you go early. Do not take cash as the bartenders can be very rude and say they don't accept cash when they really do. We literally had to leave the club and walk across the street to get change for a $50 bill. The bar manager seemed nice and sweet but her other two rude bar back ladies were very unprofessional and seemed to not want to be there. Dj was awesome and music was on point. A mixture of hip hop and reggae-ton. Not sure I would go back just based on the two female bartenders who gave us a hard time.

This was an outrageous evening from start to finish. We began with an England-versus-Spain friendly…read moreat Wembley, moved on to sushi in Soho, and came to The Box to polish it off. I visited within its first year, and the enormous gold-plated Gatling gun inside immediately announced that normal rules did not apply. A curving staircase washed in red light, with paneled walls and glowing steps, led toward an intimate theater, where the stage sat to the right, and a gradual incline rose toward the bar at the back. Beyond the beautifully renovated former Soho revue theater, the show was every bit as outrageous as The Box's reputation suggested, though it somehow remained theatrical without becoming gratuitous. I will spare the details, but my Danish friend and former colleague was visibly blown away, which became part of the entertainment in itself. We were fortunate enough to get the hookup at the bar, with a bottle and an ice chest that kept us well hydrated throughout the night. The crowd was attractive, the service kept everything moving, and the compact room made the unfolding spectacle feel conspiratorial. Kayper was DJing that evening, and her set pushed the night into another category. She was already a major name in London and remains one of the best turntablists I have ever heard, moving through an open format set with technical precision and real imagination. Between the music, the cabaret, and the wonderfully strange surroundings, The Box delivered exactly what its legend promised: London nightlife behaving like live theater and getting away with it. It was the kind of blowout that took me a long time to recover from, but I loved every minute of it. Highly recommended.
