Relaxed diner with friendly folks. I was super excited to try this place because I've had it bookmarked for a while but they are only open during breakfast and lunch. The atmosphere is super casual and everyone is very friendly. They had some lunch specials and I was lucky enough to go with a couple of folks so we were able to sample a few things. I had their burger on a brioche bun and it was delicious, it comes topped with bacon and a fried egg. We also tried the carne asada fries. My companions had breakfast options. One ordered to wet breakfast burrito was looked like a giant serving. My other had a build your own omelette - and the best part avocado is NOT extra. woohoo. This was one of those last minute choices because Black Bear Diner was crowded as f*co and I was getting hangry since I needed my post workout meal asap! Oh my goodness...it was the best choice ever! I'm so glad we decided to stop here. Although there was about a 15 minute wait we really didn't want to go any where else, it was seriously worth the wait. The place was rather small but it's personable that way. Everyone was really nice and asked how everything was going. My friend and I decided to share the Chilaquiles plate. We added steak to it as well. Geeeez that steak was so tender and literally melted in your mouth. Everything about the plate was magnicifent! I want more and I want it now! Well let me start by saying it's a small little cute spot. My family and I had to wait about 35 min just to be seated. There is no where to sit outside unless u sit on the edge of the brick outside ouch! Mmmmm let's just say I was super excited about eating very delicious food like all the reviews said. I ordered my cafe de la olla, chilaquiles con carne asada and some butter pecan and banana pancakes. Well I really enjoyed my cafe de olla since not a lot of places have it on their menu and im Hispanic so I love it and order it when available. I would say I was limited to two cups because after that the server did not offer me anymore. The chilaquiles had nothing special about them they taste like tomato sauce, no spice with egg and a small pieces of asada that I had to pay extra for. which I don't mind but at least make it worth it. The pancakes also had nothing special. They were a bit on the dry side and didn't taste much like anything. The portions are good. And the service was good. Overall experience was ok. read more

The sniper scramble bar with egg whites was a very filling dish and the breakfast potatoes are very good. They were seasoned well and had a slight crunch to them. The chesty chorizo burrito was huge! Not sure why this place has high reviews, I gave this spot a chance based on the high reviews but soon regreted it. My family and I tried the chilaquiles with carne asada. They were more like chips with a little sauce over them and a mediocre amount of asada strips. Sauce had absolutely no favor - these were definitely not chilaquiles. I'm giving this little cafe 4.5 stars for the great food and relaxed, homey vibe. There is a military theme to the decor as the owners (who were both acting as servers when I was there) are veterans who served in Afghanistan and are included amongst the cool photos that adorn the walls. They were both very friendly, upbeat and did a fantastic job of making us feel welcome. They serve breakfast and lunch (check their hours - most days they close by 2). I came with a co-worker and was in the mood for some pancakes which I ordered with a side of bacon and a horchata. My co-worker ordered the SGT Sandwich with fries. The buttermilk pancakes (two of them) were exceptional. They are prepared with cinnamon and nutmeg. Both were soft but with a slightly crisp "cinnamony" edge which I really liked. The thin sliced bacon was delicious but nothing out of the ordinary. The horchata was very good; the cinnamon of the horchata was a nice compliment to cinnamon within the pancakes. I also tried my co-worker's sandwich and I would definitely order this next time. Scrambled egg, cheddar cheese and bacon between a brioche bun! The slow heat and tanginess of the No Toro sauce they add makes it one of the best breakfast sandwiches to be found. If you live in Artesia or Cerritos or find yourself in the area I'd encourage you to visit this little cafe which is the embodiment of the success story of these two proud veterans. read more

Great quality and prices here! Breakfast for two only ran me $20 plus tax. The food was so good and best of all is their Cafe de Olla! When our server took our drink order I asked her if should could put the Cafe de Olla on ice and she did. Part of me thought, "uh-oh, did I just request watered down coffee?" And I was pleasantly surprised with a nice strong, icy glass of coffee. The coffee brewed with cinnamon was very tasty and already sweet, all it needed was creamer. Food was great, I liked that portions weren't out of control and I didn't leave overly full. My husband and I shared the Chesty Chorizo Burrito and the Banana Pecan Pancakes. One savory and one sweet, but they were both great. This restaurant was on the smaller size, like the other restaurants in this strip mall, so be prepared for a wait on the weekend. I've been really wanting to try this place and was pretty hyped given the ratings. But after trying the food I have to say that it is not bad but just nothing special. The food is decent at a solid price and portion but nothing to amazing. I split the Chesty wet burrito and banana pecan pancakes with my brother as these two seemed to be the most popular dishes. The pancakes were okay. Just pancakes with pecan and bananas. Nothing notable about them. The chesty burrito had some yummy salsa but other than that I couldn't really taste much of the chorizo. As mentioned, the food wasn't bad it was good just nothing really anything special. I'm glad I tried it to knock it off my list but I think I'd rather go elsewhere for breakfast. read more

This place is really good, I've ate here a couple times already and had their burrito, pancakes and chilaquiles, all good. The place is a little bit more expesive than others but food is clean (no greasy or soaked) and presentation is clean as well. As we drove by this cafe my mom remembered about all the great things she read online (specifically Facebook) so we decided to give it a shot. First things first, we both appreciate that it's veteran owned and proceeds go to US Marine Veterans. Although we ordered to go, the cafe was nicely decorated. It was creative and modern. I loved the touches of orange - you usually don't see that color very often in restaurants. Food wise - my mom got the banana pancakes & I got the wet chorizo burrito. Both were very different yet so good! The pancakes were warm & soft (just the way they should be). I have no clue why I ordered the burrito, knowing it would most likely be spicy and I'm not a fan of spice. But I cried tears of pain and joy while eating the burrito because it was THAT good. I loved it!!! I could only finish half because the burrito was so packed while my mom devoured her 2 pancakes. Artesia/Cerritos was definitely in need of a breakfast spot and we got it. Early morning hours are great for when school starts up again before morning classes & if I'm ever in need of anything before my early morning work shift. We ate here this weekend and I'm feeling really mislead by the reviews. The food is ok - no better. We had: Chilaquiles - no spice, light in flavor, asked for eggs fried no runny white, had runny white, added chorizo - which was dry and wasn't incorporated in to the dish, literally just drizzled on top - a drizzle of dried chorizo costs a couple bucks extra. Overall - plate of chips in red sauce with egg and cojita. Breakfast burrito - a giant unflavored scrambled egg rolled in a floury tortilla shell with meat - we got bacon because on a Saturday at 11 they didn't have sausage? There may have been cheese in it, but the amount of egg was overwhelming - couldn't even tell. Breakfast plate with pancakes, bed of eggs, and bacon - because again that's all that was available on Saturday morning. Coffee - asked what kind of coffee they had and he said "regular" ok thanks! :D I love that stuff. Meal total with 20% tip - $50. Worthwhile? No, not in my opinion. read more

Our server (Carlos) was very helpful, we told him it was our first time visiting and he told us the 3 most ordered plates. It can get quite busy due to the size of the space and the demand. The service I received upon entering was disappointing.
