My wife and I had dinner last night at NOCO in St James. I had dined there previously for a work event but this was her first visit. We started at the bar while waiting for our table to be ready. My wife had the "pretty Woman" (vodka, cranberry juice, cucumber and lime juice) while I had an IPA. Our bartender was attentive and mixed a great drink! We moved to the dining room at a table with a full view of the open kitchen. We love that type of kitchen. We started with the raw bar appetizer (oysters, clams, shrimp and tuna). The presentation was outstanding and the quality of the fish even better. My wife had the cedar plank salmon and i had the wild boar meatloaf. Both very plentiful portions and cooked to perfection. Our servers (Liv and two gentlemen) were attentive, pleasant, and most importantly did not rush us! The atmosphere was warm and inviting and a bit lively (but not loud). Overall: 5 / 5 Wanted to cap of the year with a nice dinner out on Long Island and NOCO was the perfect place for a fine dining experience. Food: 5 / 5 Good bread (and tangy accompanying oil) to start the meal. We had the oysters (1/2 off on Tuesdays) and the crab corn cake that got our meal off to a great start - crab corn cake in particular was worth the hype. For our entrees we tried the duck, salmon and sea bass special. Portions were big and dishes well thought out, with a nice balance of salty, sweet & umami as well as different textures. I had the duck which the skin was crispy and delicious although if we had one bit of feedback we would have preferred our main proteins to be cooked just a tad less. Drinks: 5 / 5 The high society was superb, I believe it was a play on a black Manhattan - would recommend for those who like drinks with depth that are not that sweet Ambience : 4 / 5 Decor is contemporary and nice. Only real critique is I wasn't a fan of the TVs at the bar which detract from the fine dining experience. Seems to be a common theme on Long Island that differs between LI & NYC. Back to Northport for the play and date day/night. No kids. Third visit to NOCO. We think we found something special here! Not just the food which is fresh, fantastic, & flavorful! (the Christian Brothers @ LaSalle College HS and my English teacher would be so proud of my alliteration!!) but the people, waitstaff, busfolks, and kitchen are personable, and enjoyable. The regular menu is superb and if not enough the "specials" were exceptional. The GF optional menu is extensive, the vegetarian and vegan section is expanded and exotic. This time the admiral got the lobster bisque soup and I got the watermelon salad. She got the sea bass special with fritters and I got the lentil & red quinoa cakes with "cauli" rice, asparagus, and a carrot & ginger sauce. We finished with a panna cotta and raspberry, and the espresso fig gelato and vanilla bean gelato. Went to Noco for early Sunday dinner. We had the 3 course prix fixe. Everything was top notch. Food, ambience, service. I had the clams Al Forno appetizer, the fantastic half pound burger and pistacio tartufo. My wife had oysters, Branzino and a delicious dessert- flouless chocolate Nutella cake with hazelnut gelato. Our server was terrific. Every morsel was delicious. Well worth it. My wife loved the cocktail and the Brooklyn lager I ordered was ice cold. Every detail was covered. There are very few times where I come home after visiting a restaurant to write a review. I usually take a few days to review, but I honestly think I just found my new favorite restaurant. This is why I love restaurant week so much, because I get to try a few new dishes and try new restaurants. Last time for restaurant week I was not able to get a reservation for NOCO as it was booked solid. Now, I understand why they get booked. I tried dishes I would normally not eat, and it was just pure genius combination of ingredients . The three course meal was insanely good in every way possible. I get so motivated with my own cooking after I try amazing dishes like the ones I had tonight.The chili glazed ribs and lobster ravioli were incredible. I loved everything about this place. I don't know what changed or who did it, but the food has been so much better. You can actually get grilled chicken and it to a salad. Which by the way their pan seared chicken is delicious with the NOCO salad. If they could just get in a better Prosecco like a LaMarca lol, because that is a basic and sometimes people just want a beer and for this of us who don't drink beer but just want something glass of processco hits the spot. Otherwise keep up with the great specials. I do miss some of the old staff, but that happens. Just hire people who smile and understand that it is an area favorite!! read more

First time here and we loved it! On Tuesdays it's half price oysters and the oysters were so fresh! The drinks were different and creative, yet so delicious! Just had dinner at NOCO 12/21. Warmly greeted by servers who remembered me....felt good and welcoming. However, I ate at bar alone and while the food was good the bartender left a lot to be desired. Disappeared a lot only 5 patrons at bar. when I had finished my dinner, bartender was talking to people she knew while myself and a couple were waiting for checks (or even another drink for me). Bon and I were touring St. James last Saturday afternoon and spotted NOCO with an inviting tent in front and sidewalk seating. we returned circa 5pm and called for rezzy, considering it was a beautiful Saturday, and requested an outside table under the tent. When queried what time I replied how bout now! We were in the parking lot.... They said Yes and we went in and announced our arrival. We were immediately seated and were very appreciative of their hospitality. The server took out drink order and we perused their menu. Drinks were excellent and we ordered Octopus appy and a Burrata Salad. For mains, I got their incredible Prime Burger with maplewood smoked bacon and Bon got the Filet Mignon...both terrific choices. For dessert they had a special Almond Gelato, refreshing and delish! We had a wonderful time there and recommend it highly And, they were all wearing masks and socially distancing!! read more

We came here for a special occasion and decided to come here based off word of mouth. We were able to make a reservation just one day before. Coming here Tues, their oysters are 1/2 off so that was such an allure. For appetizer, we got a dozen of the raw oysters which was ice cold, and what a kick with the horseradish. The oysters tasted fresh which was a plus. 1/2 off came out to $18 for a dozen. We also got the buttermilk sriracha chicken wings and was glad it wasn't too spicy and added a nice kick without fetching the water every now and then. For my entree, I got the Farm to Burger with house fries cooked medium for $18. It was very very good and they slapped 2 bacons in the burger. Please note there is no lettuce or tomato toppings. My son got the homemade ravioli for $32 which he really liked the sauce and how everything just came together. The parmesan cheese drizzle on top along with the ample truffle oil added that perfect touch. My wife got the branzino for $34 which she was disappointed at the dish. She felt the sauce didn't have that much flavor and there was not enough crisp to the branzino. She was underwhelmed with that dish. For dessert, we got the flourless cake with nutella ice cream. It was such a nice finish to a wonderful meal, with the exception of the miss with the branzino. Our waitress, Mai, was very nice and she looked very busy but still took the time to check on us. Came here on a Saturday night without a reservation. It was extremely busy so we decided to sit by the bar. Service was great, even though it was so packed. I was extremely happy to see that they offer so many vegetarian and vegan options! I got the lentil and chickpea cakes... so delicious! It was the right combination of flavorful and crunchy. My friend got the duck fat fries and she said they were amazing as well! Overall this place had a great vibe, it appears to get pretty busy during the weekends, so I suggest making a reservation. Tried NOCO for the first time during restaurant week and OMG it did not disappoint. The photos truly does their food no justice. The duck risotto, and short rib ravioli were unique and so delicious! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED On Saturday, March 7th, I dined with 5 others at NOCO. The restaurant is located on the north side of Rt 25A in St. James. It has a large parking lot. NOCO can be classified as an especially creative and hospitable gastropub. They have a great selection of beer, wine and cocktails. Their menu and execution, at least this evening, were superb. Upon arrival, the warm and friendly female bartender made me a great Belvedere Martini. The angular bar area is very attractive and a nice place to relax with a cocktail. The restaurant had our table ready even before our 6:00 p.m. dining time. Apps and salads were exceptional. Order Chilled Jumbo Shrimp, the Lobster & Corn Cake, Wine-Braised Beets, Baby Arugula & Roasted Beet Salad, the Farm Salad or the Whipped Ricotta with Crostini ("borrowed" from another prominent St. James restaurant that begins with a T). You cannot go wrong. My North Shore Clams Al Forno (Roasted Clams) was orgasmic. The Clams were fresh and tasty, The accompanying broth was fabulously seasoned.....tailor made for dipping bread. And.....speaking of bread....the restaurant serves the best Pretzel Roll I've ever tasted. I chose the reasonably priced Veal Osso Buco ($45), a special, as my entree. It was moist, succulent and gelatinous....the definition of how the shank should be. The accompanying Risotto was great too. Service was warm and outstanding. Our young server, Lauren, was very attentive, pleasant and responsive. The manager even stopped by twice to ask if everything was OK. Lauren patiently let me amend my dessert. I'm a dessert minimalist. Chose Vanilla Gelato with an Espresso kicker to make Affogato. It was SO GOOD. My companions and I were very satisfied. BOTTOM LINE: NOCO is a standout in a town filled with standouts. "Gastropub" is sometimes a restaurant's aspiration rather than its reality. Not in the case of NOCO. They nail the concept. read more

Second time at NoCo - solid, not perfect. Sat inside against the wall, on a bar-height table, with bench seating built to match? I prefer regular-height tables and chairs, unless I'm literally eating at a bar. Strange choice, but not the end of the world. Last time we ate at NoCo, wife got the fish, which was fine, but the skin wasn't crispy. This time the fish (branzino) was advertised with crispy skin, and it was - but the fish was overcooked in the process. I don't remember what I ate for my main, but I started with the octopus, which was good, but could have had better char. That may not have been the intent of the dish, but it was lacking flavor, and more char could have helped. Otherwise, it was a decent meal with good service. We'd probably come back to NoCo, but I think we'll try other options in St. James, first. read more

Drinks were tasty if not a bit overpriced for a local restaurant.Apps were very good everyone liked what they got, my wife and I got tuna something. I had some kind of fruti de mar pasta which was a solid 8/10 not amazing not bad. Seafood was fresh. There seemed to be a lot of choices on the menu. Service was good. Had a great dinner tonight at NoCo. It was quiet and uncrowded (probably because of competition from playoff games), and the service was outstanding--attentive without being intrusive. Service was quick and everything hot from the stove/oven. We both enjoyed our appetizers: crab and cornbread cakes for my husband, the clams al forno for me. Mine was especially good--garlicky, with lots of bread crumbs and small cherry and yellow tomatoes in the broth for a bonus. His homemade ravioli were the best I've ever tasted (it was my birthday--of course he shared!), and the chicken paillard was very good, with a generous arugula, fennel, and apple salad on top. The apple fritters dessert was also delicious--the fritters were not too sweet, served steaming hot as a nice complement to the ice cream and caramel drizzle. What can I say? This restaurant is fantastic. Food here is consistently delicious. The wine selections are also very good. We came recently for our wedding anniversary and were treated to a complimentary glass of champagne. What a special treat and a nice touch. Our favorites from the menu are the crab cake appetizer, oysters, and branzino. My husband also loved the wild boar meatloaf and the fra diavolo. Decor is lovely. I would like to update my review from one year ago when I gave the restaurant 2 stars. We returned to NOCO this week and were pleased to find a different dining experience than we had a year ago. The food, drinks and service were all A plus. We are so happy to have NOCO on our go to dining list again. I would especially like to thank the ownership for not playing the +4% if you use a credit card game. I greatly appreciate the respect you show your customers. Lovely surprise. Have never been here and was very impressed with the food, service and ambience. Located in a small strip mall in St. James on 25A. Not too loud, not too quiet, not too dark, not too bright, not too trendy, not too dowdy- it was just right. Menu is simple yet descriptive with evidence of creativity. We ordered 4 appetizers to share- Oysters, lobster crab cake, Farm Salad and Octopus/Chorizo- all were outstanding and enjoyed by all diners. Our favorite was the Octopus/Chorizo. Another culinary star has been added to St. James. Last night, our party of eight came to celebrate my husband's birthday. First off, the atmosphere is so welcoming. It has a coziness and simplicity that gives a very upscale vibe. The Hostess was kind, attentive, and honest--something I truly appreciate. We had reservations at 8pm but decided to come at 7:30 to the bar for a drink and possibly get seated early. She was very upfront and told me they would need every minute. Our friends enjoyed the house specialty cocktails. Even though the place was literally packed to the rafters, the bartender was attentive and on top of our needs at every turn. When the time came, she came to get us, she had already informed our server it was my husband's birthday and we proceeded to embark into an adventure for the eyes and palate. We were handed over to our server whose name I sadly don't recall. She was fantastic! Attended to our every need. Checked in just enough to make sure we were cared for without being on top of us. She was an absolute delight! I can honestly say that between the eight of us, we probably tried most of the menu. The amount of ooh'ing and ahh'ing over each course was such a relief for me. To find a place where every person, regardless of their dietary needs was RAVING over every course was such a pleasure. I personally shared small plates with a friend. The little gem salad was perfect. Just a hint of sweetness and much to my delight, walnuts that were NOT sugary-coated.THANK YOU!!! I can't stand when a chef will take a perfectly balanced salad and ruin it with candied nuts. This was so good, the blue cheese was creamy with just enough bite. The dressing was perfect. Lobster Corn Cake-WOW! I am always so hesitant to order lobster anyway other than by itself because it always winds up over cooked and rubbery. Not the case here. The meat was succulent and sweet, just the right amount of breading to hold it together, served over this tomato relish of sorts and a light, unintrusive cream sauce. It was heaven. The beet salad was delectable. The perfect firmness accompanied by a ricotta that was velvety. The acid level was dead on and the radishes added a beautiful play of color and crunch. The Tuna Tartar was probably our least favorite of the night. I liked it. My share-buddy didn't care for it. I really liked the seaweed salad but it was just a bit heavy-handed and it overpowered the delicate tuna. Our last and my favorite small plate was the Crispy Oysters. Again, so often it "sounds good" and disappoints. Once again, Chef was deftly handed. The oysters burst with liquor and the batter was light and crispy. I don't know how they were able to maintain the crispness with the slaw that came on it. It was just the slightest hint of pickling to brighten the dish. OMG it was sooooooo yummy! Dessert did not disappoint either. Without any prompting they brought my husband his favorite-Apple crisp with vanilla bean gelato, along with birthday candle and singing. It was heavenly. Nutty, buttery, apples were tart and still had just the right amount of snap to them. The house Cabernet was fantastic. A California, it was just enough fruit with a hint of Smokiness.. The only thing I will say that is negative is that the parking lot is way too small to accommodate the crowds this hub now attracts. Between NOCO, Rocco's and Vintage, my husband drove around a good 10 minutes trying to find a spot. One of our guests had to park down the street in the empty parking lot of the Oil company! LOL! If they get the parking figured out, I would say hands down this is one of my Top 10 picks for the Island...possibly NY! The tab for all eight of us before tip was $600. WIth the exceptional quality of food, the impeccable service and lovely atmosphere, I think the pricing was right on target. We will definitely be back! read more

Was looking forward to this place for quite a while and finally got reservations. Restaurant has a great ambiance, they have a nice outdoor seating area which I would definitely check out in the summer (make sure to request it when you make reservations). The whole restaurant has a lot of greenery which is nice and our waiter was very friendly. We got the burrata, the scallops, and the Bolognese pasta. The food was all delicious (Especially the truffle cheesecake). However given how expensive everything was, didn't feel like it was great value for money. I would probably come back and try one of the veggie entrees but I think we would go somewhere else before we came back. read more
