Next one, we ask for one regular polish dog and they start yelling about a Seattle dog vs a Naked dog and we have to be clearer if we wanted cream cheese and they complain some more to us not knowing how to order and when was it ever this difficult to just order a $6 hot dog on a late Saturday night!?!? Not everyone likes cream cheese on their freaking hot dogs or knows the proper hot dog terminology we just want food!!! JFC.... The only thing that could have made this any better is if they ever offered cheez whiz, but it was still excellent. Check the website's schedule since the truck bounces around, but when it's downtown it's at McGraw Square across the street from Bartells. And if the weathers nice out there is seating available in the park.

Trucks are usually here during weekday lunch hours, but some will be available in the evening. The truck schedule is usually accurate on seattlefoodtruck.com for Westlake Park, so I usually check out the site before making my way. And it gets a pretty good crowd of visitors and those who work in the area, especially for more popular trucks. Visiting in the summertime for some live music, too! I'm glad to have this option so close to where I work. For when I wanna go outside and eat al fresco, I know where to turn to.

Their claim to fame is that "BBQ Sauce isn't needed - the meat is amazingly delicious!" However, they always provide BBQ sauce at the table and sell bottles of their BBQ sauce to take home, so not entirely sure how much they believe in their saying... On my most recent visit to the SLU location, a large group of co-workers and I went out for a celebratory occasion and ordered the: - SMOKED SWEET TEA ($4.50) - smoked brown sugar, simple syrup, and iced tea. This also comes as a cocktail with vodka ($14.50). This drink was honestly just alright and I probably wouldn't get it again personally. It had a slightly savory and smoky after taste, but kind of tasted like you just put a few drops of liquid smoke in the drink. - BUTTERMILK HUSHPUPPIES ($9) - golden brown and piping hot (like literally straight out of the fryer!) served with tartar sauce and honey butter. While they were super fresh and hot hot hot, they were a bit too dense for my preference. It was worth a try, but I would just stick with the regular buttermilk cornbread instead. - LONESTAR FRIES LOADED WITH QUESO AND BEEF BACON ($14.50) - french fries coated in velveta cheese with crumbles of bacon on top. One of my co-workers wanted to give this a try, so wasn't my choice or pick, but this appetizer was also pretty rich and dense. I also would not order this again as I found it too salty. - PICNIC ($98 - enough for four or more people to share!) - brisket, ribs, sausage, pulled pork, chicken, white bread, homemade pickles, jalapeños, and four sides. For sides, we chose the REMOULADE COLESLAW, BUTTERMILK CORNBREAD, QUESO MAC N CHEESE, and SWEET CORN PUDDING. Because there were 8+ of us, we upgraded the side sizes to 12-oz for $8, as part of the picnic deal. We additionally got a side of WAGYU BRISKET (a Wednesday-only special). - BRISKET/ WAGYU BRISKET - tasty, but surprisingly was on the drier side. I don't know if I really could tell the difference between the Wagyu and their normal brisket. I was expecting a much more moist piece of meat, but seemed kind of lean. - RIBS - these were my favorite in the basket. Sweet, juicy, and falls right off the bone! - SAUSAGE - they give you two types to try - spicy and cheese-filled. The spicy has jalapeño in it and definitely has a small kick. The cheese-filled is mild and slightly saltier. - PULLED PORK - also on the saltier side, but at least it's relatively moist and pre-shredded. - CHICKEN - mostly dark meat (which is my preference), but can't say there's really anything special about their marinade. Nothing to write home about here. - REMOULADE COLESLAW - your standard shredded cabbage coated in a sweet and slightly peppery and tangy mayonaise dressing. No complaints here. - BUTTERMILK CORNBREAD - this side is an ABSOLUTE MUST. My co-workers and I were blown away by how good the cornbread was here. It comes with a dollop (more like a scoop) of butter drizzled with honey, but even on it's own, it was absolutely amazing. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, like a good cake. - QUESO MAC N CHEESE - This side was evidently rich, but less rich than the Lonestar fries. It was creamy, savory, and came with a sprinkle of breadcrumbs on top. I liked that they used spiral macaroni as opposed to your typical half tube macaroni as it gave more texture and chew to the dish. - SWEET CORN PUDDING - I thought I would've liked this one more, but similar to the hush puppies, this dish was also too dense for my liking. However, it was a nice and sweet complement to the mostly savory dishes otherwise. **TLDR- for mains sides (as I've basically tried them all at both locations), I would recommend the ribs, buttermilk cornbread, remoulade coleslaw, Gramma's collard greens, and mustardy potato salad.** For dessert, we ordered one of everything off the menu and honestly, dessert was 10/10!: - PEACH COBBLER & ICE CREAM FOR TWO ($12) - this cobbler was fantastic. It might just be the cream cheese or whatevee is in the cream cheese and onions. Seating is available in their tent, but only one picnic table is available. Staff is nice, quick, and can get a long line moving. We only ended up waiting 15 minutes before we got to the front and an additional minute to get our hot dog ready to eat. The staff definitely knows how to get the line going. This stand is nestled right in front of WAMU Theater. Overall, will continue to come back here. A damn good hot dog to have before the game.

Finally. Good BBQ in WA State!…read more I knew I was on the right track because the owner was wearing a Franklin Barbecue shirt when I walked up. Franklin Barbecue is a legend that is "serving the best barbecue in the known universe," according to Texas Monthly. And the young owner/chef of the relatively new Smokestack Lightning BBQ is a Franklin disciple. But he's more than that. He has cooking experience in some of the best Seattle area restaurants, and he knows how to cook. His love for BBQ and all food is evident in both the name of the place (see book and TV show) and the excellent food. Smokestack Lightning is all about BBQ without shortcuts and high quality ingredients. The smoker is an excellent Lone Star Grillz trailer pit made in Willis, TX. The crew drove to Willis to pick it up and drive it back to Seattle. The brisket is high quality Painted Hills Natural Beef from Oregon. Other ingredients are also locally sourced, with a similar eye to quality that plays a big role in final taste. And that brisket? Juicy, succulent, and mildly smoky melt-in-your-mouth goodness--just as brisket should be. This is a BBQ trailer that moves around, and there are always little twists on the menu for the day. On the day I went, the brisket was dressed up with some amazing cider-braised smoked cabbage and a tangy golden BBQ sauce (all made in house). These were great accompaniments that paired well with the brisket (though the brisket was superb by itself), adding a hint of a reuben sandwich flair to the plate. The macaroni salad was superbly executed, as was the Texas-German style potato salad (with the mustard toned down just a little). Everything I had here was good, but I need to return (several times) to try some of the other items. They all look amazing. I didn't get to take too many photos, so I borrowed some from Smokestack Lightning's Instagram feed to flesh out the images here a bit. You'll have to find where the truck is going to be. The beans, grits and desert were excellent. The mustard sauce grew on me, but I wish it came on the side instead of on top. I almost gotta take away a star for that Pillsbury canned "biscuit" though. Honestly, I'd rather not have a biscuit on my plate than suffer through that again. Your food is too good and that biscuit just doesn't stand up to it.
