I'm sure that, given the location, the Frankfurter is viewed as a tourist location. But they make a great hot dog! I love the fun decorations and vibe, and of course you get great views! They have a larger menu than I expected, including cookies and drinks. The woman running the booth was really nice and talked to us about Seattle. I got a Seattle dog- cream cheese and onions- and the flavors were amazing! My friend got a normal dog with all the toppings and then added more from the counter on the side. For the location and price, this is a great lunch option! read more

Ok...so we tried the local favorite hot dog style: Seattle Dog - grilled onions and cream cheee is the combo. I didn't put any other condiments on it. I found it to be off-putting at best. Nothing good about it by having cream cheese of all things. The hot dog itself waa decent. Italian Hot Dog - not too bad of a tasting dog. A litter kick and flavor...this was good enough. I've always been a big fan of the Seattle dog--something about the cream cheese and caramelized onions just hits the spot. While walking along the Seattle Pier, I decided to give The Frankfurter a try. There was a decent line, so I figured it had to be worth checking out. I was genuinely excited to get a taste of one of my favorite street foods. The lady at the counter was friendly and had my Seattle dog ready in no time. But as I watched her prepare it, my expectations started to dip. She pulled out a small cream cheese packet and gave the bun a quick smear--definitely not the generous layer I was hoping for. The onions and bell peppers were sparse and lacked that deep, sweet flavor I associate with a proper Seattle dog. The first bite confirmed it--this was a pretty underwhelming version. The flavors were faint, the bun was just okay, and overall, it felt a little rushed. It probably wasn't the best spot to try a Seattle dog, but the location made it an easy stop. I was in Seattle and tried the Seattle dog. I ordered the all beef dog and paid for the cream cheese, peppers and onions. Once I received the dog, I asked the girl I ordered the peppers too, her response was the peppers are the same color had the onions and mixed inside... I'm a ex culinary cook and there was definitely no peppers inside. The dog did not taste like a beef dog, the cream cheese was a packet. I was disappointed with this place. I would not recommend this place! read more

Good spot if you're craving a solid, no-nonsense dog while strolling the pier. I got the all-beef hot dog and the chicken sausage--both hit the spot. Juicy, well-cooked, no weird fillers or mystery meat vibes. Chicken sausage had a surprisingly great snap and flavor. That said... $6 a pop? A bit much for what it is. I get it--tourist tax, waterfront, etc. But there's a guy in Westlake who smokes his sausages on the spot and charges less. Flavor-wise, that dude's doing laps around this place. Still, if you're hungry and nearby, it does the job. Just know you're paying more for the location than the link. read more

This was a little place on the pier that had different type of hotdogs for a good price!! They had the seattle style hotdog and it surprised me we came to get more. It was perfect in the afternoon walking the pier as well as the lemonade!! They had an amazing fresh strawberry lemonade. When I was as a kid Frankfurter was a classic that could be found in the Center House, by Greenlake, etc. Now this stand remains - and it's just as good as it always was. Nice bun, lots of toppings as options, and a great kielbasa or beef dog. And the strawberry lemonade is timeliness and refreshing if you want a sugar rush. I have always experienced fast friendly service. The only issue I've had is them not being open a few times. But it's worth waiting for. My office is opening a new spot very close by and I'm looking forward to walking over for lunch. Great walkable location along the waterfront and right by the ferry terminal. read more

The best hotdogs in town? That's a stretch! I have had better ones before. But this place is really good. Loved the dogs! Hot and made it right in front of us! Picked up a few for the groups! The condiments are kept on the other side of the shop. Service was really great. Hardly anything to complain. Service fast too. By the time you pay the money, the hotdogs are ready! Just enjoy the dogs while walking on the pier! Recommend it. read more

Visited Seattle for the weekend and my friend told me to try a Seattle dog. I stopped by this stand by the ocean front and ordered the Seattle dog and a strawberry lemonade. The hot dog was surprisingly delicious with the cream cheese and grilled onions. The strawberry lemonade was freshly squeezed and might've been the best I've had. My friend and I wanted to try the Seattle dog and so we stopped by after our ferry back from bainbridge. The hotdog was solid and they have a lot of free toppings too, pretty much what you would expect. But I do want to highlight that the lady working inside was really friendly to us. She also helped us cut our dog in half to share it better. read more

This stand was on the Waterfront and had very reasonable pricing. We ordered a plain hotdog and potato salad to hold us over until our dinner reservation was ready. The hotdog was good, but the bread bun seemed a little stale. The potato salad was a good size, but had way too much mayo and was not the best I've had. Stick with the Hotdogs only. read more

The hot dog was good- but the strawberry LEMONADE.... The lemonade was AMAZING. My mother in law described it as "something you'd go out of your way for", and I agree. I just got a plain hot dog and it was decent, the bread was somewhat hard but it was good enough and the lemonade saved the 5/5. read more

This location was a random spot we were passing by while exploring the Piers in Seattle! There was only one worker who was the chef and cashier; it was impressive how he was able to handle the stand by himself and hustling through orders! He was super friendly and knowledgeable about the city, since I told him we're here to visit ! The food was alright! The dogs got really cold quickly, but it was still delicious. I highly recommend getting their strawberry lemonade! It was super refreshing and tasty! read more

Located on the waterfront, The Frankfurter is just a small shack that is known for serving Seattle dogs. They have other variations of course, but that is the most popular one. What is a Seattle dog? It is a hot dog that is covered in sauteed onions and cream cheese. I had one of these here and it was just okay. The hot dog here is nothing special and worst of all, it is really overpriced. They are charging over $6 for a hot dog. read more

Rather you are a local, or a tourist you must stop somewhere and have a traditional Seattle Dog. The Frankfurter is a small almost shack like place on the water where you can do just that. It is not the best Seattle Dog the city has to offer but it is a good one, and the customer service is great. Keep in mind when you order here there are two small tables to the right, if they are full stand up and enjoy your dog. There are more here than Seattle Dogs but why would you try anything else?!? Adorable hot dog stand right on the pier. No vegetarian hot dog options as far as I could tell, but I had some awesome locally made barbecue chips and an icey cold Diet Coke! Relaxed at a picnic table on the pier, great view. Super friendly staff member who seems like he enjoys his job, which is always fun to see. No line when I arrived, but then folks started to line up, so I suspect their hot dogs are amazing, too! read more

Right on the main strip and it was calling out to me as I was walking past. Had to give it a try. Good thing I did because it was good. Wish I tried a couple of them. So I got the Kielbasa hotdog with sauerkraut and ketchup. It was nicely grilled and I loved the bread. Had lots of flavor and a nice skin. The owners I believe were super nice. Will need to go back to try some of the other dogs they have to offer. Wish I was hungrier to have more then just the one. read more

Okay I'm a big fan of street food and I love my hot dogs. I was fortunate enough to pass by this gem on the way to take the ferry. Ordered the Italian Hot, and this is one of the best hot dogs I've ever had. Hot dogs maybe seem simple but I feel there are so many places who just don't get it right. This dog had the perfect snap to the bite, but was JUICY on the inside. I love heat on my food and this had a nice amount of kick to it. The condiments were perfect which added to the explosion of flavour this dog had. The price was also perfect for what you are getting. I'm making this my go-to every time I visit Seattle. read more

Food was great. Me and my son both ordered Chili dogs with peppers and onions. It was so good and the lemonade even came with real lemons in it to add flavor. Simple hot dog stand near the Seattle Great Wheel. My husband ordered a simple dog, Seattle Style. The hot dog was delicious. I wish we ordered more of it. It was on the pricey side at less than $6. I remember a day when there were Frankfurters everywhere. Uptown, 'cross town, Eastside, downtown...anywhere you went, there they were. And I was happy, 'cuz I was addicted (yes, I use that word wisely) to their Italian Hot. OMG that thing. If you like spicy, well, it's magical. But I digress. This little spot might be one of the last Frankfurters around. The only problem is it's on the waterfront - which isn't really a "problem" in the classic sense of the word, but is in terms of it's not a very convenient spot if you just want a weiner. Ya gotta park ($4/hour at the meter), and spaces are at a premium. And ya gotta battle some tourists. But seriously...THE ITALIAN HOT! Worth the trouble for sure. The only difference is now I need to make sure to take my heartburn pill before hand. read more

Deeeelicious!!!! We were strolling through Seattle after a helicopter ride, we had no clue what we wanted to eat! We spotted The Frankfurter right away thanks to the colorful decorations. The gentleman behind the counter was extremely friendly and helpful. We told him we were in town visiting and he recommended the best items on the menu. I ordered the Smoked Thai Chicken, and my boyfriend ordered the Old Fashioned. SO GOOD! Served hot and juicy on the inside. They had the toppings on the side, which is great! We had just eaten breakfast, and were strolling along the waterfront, when I saw a hot dog stand. We were not one bit hungry but love a good hot dog, and when a hot stand claims to be the best we better give it a try. Prior to walking up I told my wife if the dogs were less then $6 were getting one. To my surprise the original was $5.95!!! The guy serving the dogs didn't appear to be the cleanest but I tried not to fixate on the dirty shirt he was wearing. Got my dog, a little sauerkraut, ketchup, dill relish, and took a bite. It was fantastic. It was one of the best hot dogs I have ever had. It was so good we went back the next day and got another. read more

History

Established in 1975.

The English word "sausage" comes from the Latin word salsus meaning "seasoned" or "spiced". Exactly when salts and spices were used to preserve meats is obscured in the veils of history. We do know that the Chinese were eating pork sausages long before the introduction of Christianity and that sausages were referred to in the writing of the early Greek historians and poets. It is also recorded that when Constantine the Great became Emperor of Rome, the Romans were especially fond of a finely-minced pork sausage seasoned with pine nuts, which was parboiled then grilled and served with a dab of ground mustard seed. The popularity of sausages spread throughout Europe and the New World. Many regional recipes were developed depending on the ingredients available and local tastes. Sausages were particularly popular in Frankfurt, Germany, where they were served with bread. Sausages served in this manner became known as frankfurters.

I tried this hot dog when I wasn't even drunk or starving or anything, and it was amazing. It's sliced and grilled, which really bumps up the flavor. The bun is soft and a little chewy. It's hard to find good grilled onions. A lot of times they just don't have any flavor. These tasted great, and they also still had some crunch, so they weren't just goo. For $7, you can't beat the price. There's also a wide assortment of sauces. I particularly enjoyed the Sriracha mayo. I'll definitely be back!

The lady running the store was extremely nice, especially to my daughter (which always wins extra points from me!). I of course ordered the Seattle dog. They had various condiments and toppings available on the side including ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, pickles and pickled carrots. It was just the perfect amount of food with lots of flavors. After we were done eating, we came by the stand to grab some napkins and the lady asked us how the food was. I thought it was a nice gesture. She really didn't have to say anything and she had quite a few customers in line. She was able to multitask and provide excellent service to every customer. This is a hotdog stand. There are no tables. Condiments and napkins are all self-service. Each hot dog was $12 (this already includes sales tax and tipping is optional). I highly recommend if you are here for concerts or kraken games and want some good food that won't cost you an arm and a leg inside the arena.
