I was excited to try the menu items. The Jambalaya was very tasty with good spice. The fried shrimp po'boy on the other hand was quite a disappointment. The shrimp were more breading than shrimp and they were air fried rather than deep fried. Also, the bread was very heavy and dense. I'll try it again but will stay away from the po'boys. read more

I am new to Michigan; moved here 3 days ago. Wanted to visit St. Joseph beach and wanted lunch afterwards and stumbled upon this place. 2 miles from the beach; close and convenient. I got the Seafood Etouffe and it was AMAZING. It had a phenomenal balance of spice/taste. Far better than Etouffe I had in New Orleans. My mom got the classic sampler with gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice and all 3 were extremely good. I definitely plan on coming back here often. I went to Nola Roux on 7/20/18 at 6pm. Food was great, I ordered a shrimp po-boy which was full of shrimp and had a really good sauce. and a cup of seafood gumbo which had lots of plump juicy shrimp and crawfish tails, I was told crab was in there too but I didn't see nor taste it, none the less, all the shrimp and crawfish made up for the lack of crab meat. The manager Mike was exceptional. He made sure I was comfortable and that I was pleased with my meal. He also let me sample items to be sure I got what I wanted. I will give them a 4 out of 5 stars, the only reason they dont get the whole 5 is because of the cashier. He didnt greet us when we came in, he also seemed uninterested and ready to go home. Been there a couple times already. Between us we've had the Bourbon Beef Po' Boy, the Bourbon Beef Po Roast, Jambalaya, Red Beans & Rice w Sausage (meal). All of us feel the food has been absolutely wonderful!! It's not too spicy so you can add to your specific taste. The side, hard bread that comes with some is a great touch. Have always loved NOLA, it's great we have a little flavor of it right here to enjoy. The atmosphere inside is also very nice, unfortunately it's not big enough for a horn player, or washboard. First time trying this place, and I wish I could say I had a better review since this area has been needing more variety in local cuisine. I ordered a fried shrimp po'boy, seafood gumbo, and dirty rice. The po'boy was a pretty large sandwich, which was a pleasant surprise. However, it seemed pretty bland to me & it wasn't anything special. The fried shrimp was mediocre at best, with a couple slices of tomato breaking up the flavor, but overall it was nothing to write home about. I feel like I would've liked the seafood gumbo more if it was a little less salty, which I'm sure made it difficult to notice any depth of flavor that Nola cuisine is well known for. The portion of gumbo I ordered did have a satisfactory amount of shrimp & crawfish in it, though. The dirty rice was probably the better tasting items of the 3 i ordered. Flavor was nice, and not too salty with a good portion. Even though I'm only giving this establishment 3 stars, I'd still give it another chance and try other items. read more

I ordered through Grub Hub and got an assortment of dishes. Tried the pot roast, Seafood Gumbo, red beans and rice, and Macaroni. The latter side dishes were passable, but the entrees were dreck. Not getting a deep roux taste in anything. Gumbo was a thin soup without an identifiable crawdad. I don't think this place would survive a week in New Orleans, but this ain't that. Tried this for the first time today. I'm very picky about my food. This is the first cajun food I've had since I lived down south that I really enjoyed. I had the jambalaya and my girlfriend had the mushroom etouffee. The food was hot and absolutely amazing. There are a few places down south that could take some lessons. This place is what we call "a little hole in the wall". Very cute and cozy. We went for lunch and ordered the lunch special with consisted of a 6 inch shrimp po boy sandwich and a cup of gumbo. If you know anything about po boys, you know the bread has to be good and it is. The minute I tasted the gumbo I knew someone in that kitchen knew what they were doing. The owner told me that the chef used to cook at the Country Club in New Orleans. They have only been open for 3 months and it appear as though the "word" is out. Everyone is coming in. I think it's safe to say that this place is going to be around for a long time. They better get busy finding a bigger place to move, they are going to need it.
