The last time we were there, I would have given this place a 4.5. Tonight, 2.7-3.0. Had to ask for our waitress to come to our table after 15 mins of not seeing her. The first order of corn fritters the came were burnt on the outside and RAW on the inside. The second order that came were cooked on the inside but still burnt on the outside/ looked nothing like the picture. The wedge salad was very watery.... There was a spray bottle and rag sitting in my eye sight in the floor next to a Buffalo Bills sign, which I moved the BB sign so I wouldn't have to see the the bottle and rag. A used napkin laid on the floor from a previous diner until 45 minutes into our dinner, when an owner picked it up off the floor.Our main courses were very good but the hospitality and service really sucked this time. read more

Had dinner 2 nights in a row at Nolan's while staying at the Lake House. We requested to be seated in the patio section, the blinds open when the weather is warm. I ordered the very delicious glazed Salmon special and hubs ordered the captain platter- Filet Mignon medium well, which was over cooked and stiff but the lobster was succulent. Beside the filet mignon being over cooked, everything was delicious. The next night We decided to give it another chance for dinner and ordered the Captain's platter again, Filet Mignon medium- it was perfection! I had the rack of lamb cooked medium rare- tender and flavorful. Altogether we're glad we went the second time around and everything was as it should have been. See you this summer ! read more

Had an amazing time here tonight with some good friends. This place is beautiful inside and the food is honestly even better !!! Had the veal Parm myself... larger than my face! And my wife had the Nolan's clam and scallops pasta .... just amazing!! Had to take half of both dishes home for lunch tomorrow! Visited Nolan's today 9/11 for lunch with my wife and another couple. Everything was going great until I found a hair in my food after the first bite. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. I told the waitress to remove the plate & remove the charge from the bill. I ordered a coffee and drank it while everyone else ate. Not even a coffee refill was offered. Yes, granted the exterior is very attractive since it's rebuild after the fire a few years back. But now that Nolan's is bigger than before, this review encompasses the last two visits. The first time was on a Friday evening in the summer. We did not have a reservation, but put our name on a waiting list. We were told it would be 25 minutes. After waiting outside on the porch for 30 minutes we began chatting with a young couple who DID have reservations and were already waiting 45 minutes!! We waited another 15 minutes or so while why we continued chatting with this couple, and then decided to go in and speak with the hostess. We expressed our displeasure, and said to her that "Clearly the restaurant is overbooking." The hostess admitted they had and apologized. We didn't stay. The second chance time was this past weekend. Again we were craving fish fries and there aren't too many choices locally. We both ordered beer batter fish fries. The breading was clearly deep fried but we were disappointed as to how mushy both the batter and the fish. The sweet potato fries were thin and overcooked. They looked and tasted like they were something mass produced and comes from from Cisco Foods. I'm trying to find something nice to say about our dinner experience so I will say that our server was very nice and attentive and the coleslaw was delicious!! I doubt we will be going back to Nolan's anytime soon. It certainly is not worth any wait! read more

My fiancé and I chose to come to this restaurant for our dating anniversary dinner. We started with drinks at the bar because we arrived a little early. We ordered the Gin Fizzie and the Seasonal Mule. Both were really delicious but our favorite was the Gin Fizzie. Once we got our table, we decided to start with the Oysters and Stuffed Mushrooms. My fiancé said the oysters were fresh and amazing. The mushrooms were cheesy and warm; I loved them. After I had a crock of French Onion Soup. It was very good; not too salty and just enough cheese. My fiancé got a salad and he said it was nothing special but good. For dinner we got Sirloin Au Poivre and Rack of Lamb. Both were so good! We especially loved the seasonal corn we chose as our side dishes. For dinner drinks we did order an Old Fashion and a glass of wine, no complaints. No dessert, but maybe next time! read more

I have been dining out for over 30 years and have only written one review in the past for exceptional service. Unfortunately, this was not my experience at Nolan's tonight, and so I am compelled to write a review. First of all a very rude hostess insisted she had no record of our reservation, which we made 4 months ago, and it was downhill from there. Eventually, when she did find the reservation, she was unapologetic. We were asked to wait for a few minutes, which turned into a 20-25 minute wait without anyone coming over to tell us what the current situation was, nor to apologize for the wait. We've all experienced having to wait at a restaurant and do so without much issue if you feel it will be worth the dining experience, and you are treated right. When we complained, we were told they could not accommodate our party of 6 because they couldn't control when the tables turn over, so why take a reservation? Knowing they had a large party coming in, (and we arrived on time), it was very frustrating to see many other smaller parties being seated before us with no problem. Eventually, the rude hostess insisted we speak with the owner. To his credit, he listened, and did seat us promptly. if not for that, I'm sure we would have continued to have been ignored. This whole situation put a real damper on the evening, which was supposed to be a celebration. Too bad, as we have dined at Nolan's in the past, and enjoyed it very much. Absolutely delicious! We had our retirement dinner here as recommended by a friend who just had an amazing wedding reception hosted by Nolan's restaurant at the gardens. Great place for a great steak, and the stuffed sole was wonderful, too! Service was great, even the chairs had padding, and the interior is not crowded. Prices are reasonable considering the service, quality of food, and the location. I only have 2 quibbles: 1) In a quality restaurant like this, I expect the salad dressing to be on the salad when delivered to the table, rather than requiring me to do the kitchen's job. 2) For people drinking hot tea with their meal, a real teacup should be used, not a coffee mug. A small teapot or 'hottle' should hold the hot water, allowing you to pour a smaller amount into the teacup. Even diners do this. read more

5 cousins spent Saturday evening sharing a meal and stories. We were seated in the bar on the upper level in a booth that could easily seat more comfortably. Our server was there quickly and smilingly with menus, whole wheat rolls& butter() and waters with an iced carafe which is a big plus. Orders placed and dinners served in quick time. Alfredo with chicken and shrimp was enormous. Broiled seafood platter likewise. Both thoroughly enjoyed. Three of us ordered Scallops Asiago...5 broiled scallops on a shell covered with tiny chopped tomato-called bruschetta , wilted spinach, and asiago cheese melted under the broiler. Well, the kitchen seems to have forgotten the asiago cheese completely! Because I was with my cousins and didn't want to raise a fuss I didn't say anything. But the scallops all 5 fit into 1 scallop shell, bruschetta refers to toasted bread with a brush of garlic topped with tomato and mozzarella, and the asiago was missing completely! All for $33 a pop. Yes, the scallops were tasty but please follow your own recipe and maybe correct your menu descriptions. (Perhaps a sharp eyed expeditor in the kitchen.) The wait staff was great including the hostess who came to find us in a very busy bar to seat us before the rest of the party arrived. read more

The full size fish fry is huge, but the batter doesn't stick well to the fish so it falls apart but still really good! The coleslaw was amazing. The fries were a disappointment, they seemed old or stale very hard to chew. Asked for ahi tuna, rare, came out well done. Food is overpriced. This steak came well done not a trace of fat because like the meat it was cooked into submission.. the baked potato looked and tasted like it was reheated from the day before.. You won't confuse this with NY steakhouse (Morton's, Smith & Wolenski's, Keens) and did not expect that.. But I did expect better than whatever this was.. Just dined at Nolans restaurant with a party of 8 - great waitperson - KATIA - very attentive to our group. Everyone seemed happy with their meals - Salmon dishes, Pork chops ( my god, those chops were huge, and from all reports, quite tasty ) , Pasta with vodka sauce. - all generous dishes, with many take home containers passed out to the assembled. And then we come to the Chicken French ....wow, the chef loves the sugar ....never, never have had a sweet sauce on Chicken French ....( it should be a light lemony, but not overwhelming creamy sauce ) - it actually reminded me of a Chinese Sweet and Sour dish - but at a much higher price. Curiously, I saw more generous portions of meat and pasta on others dishes, at similar pricing points, but my dish came up short on this area as well - in spite of chicken being a much lower priced ingredient - its a head scratcher. It must have been the hint of wine that accounted for the cost of the meal - yeah, that's it. Passed on dessert as well - forgot to mention that the excellent pre-dinner rolls were served with " honey butter" - I'll admit that this factoid was apparently mentioned on the menu - missed in my review of the information it presented - but honestly, I prefer to have my meals start with savory and transition to sweet at meals end, rather than be "surprised" by a sweet bun at the beginning of a meal ( how bout' a sage butter ? - still something different, but not an unexpected trip to the "Hunny Pot" ) I would look forward to another meal at Nolan's, but frankly, at these prices, it'll be awhile - I know, I know - inflation, wages, rent, the season, being in a wealthy bedroom community of Rochester, the prices are probably reasonable to the clientele, and I am no doubt part of the unwashed who still actually works for a living instead of a fat nest egg spewing out cash like no tomorrow, but I still find it difficult to swallow ( get it, swallow ....oh, so sorry ....schoolboy humor ....) Anyway, I can imagine a couples meal with drinks, an appetizer, dinner, and dessert easily making it into three digits - a bit rich for my blood, but the place was packed, so what do I know, anyway ? PS - if Americans now accept that a pickup or SUV now routinely tops 50K plus, I ask you if it is of any wonder that a steak dinner with the routine extras should set you back north of $50 ? - - that question posed, let me now shuffle out the door, and make for Arby's, where I'll treat myself to their, uh, meat offerings, but will surely have enough left over to buy a cherry turnover for dessert . P.S.S. - the Seafood chowder was pretty good, but lay off that salt, willya ? I'm trying to put off that heart surgery a bit longer, so I don't need to travel out of the country for surgery in Costa Rica .... I've eaten here several times since the reopening. They did a great job with the building. Both the seating areas and the bar are very attractive. The service has been very good and the food is also prepared very well. Our favorite is the Chicken Parm served with Linguini and Marinara sauce. They also have an extensive seafood selection that we haven't yet tried. I would have given it 5 stars except that I would like some lighter items on their Pub Menu. Suggestion would be some Grilled Chicken or a wrap with side salads rather than fries Other than that they are doing a great job. read more

I was expecting worse that what I experienced based on what I've heard about this place. I can't really describe what the atmosphere is here, a little higher end than a chain restaurant or diner but definitely not fine dining. The menu is so diverse ranging from steaks to seafood to italian/pasta dishes, I'm not sure what they specialize in really. Seems to appeal to an older crowd especially in the dining room but by the bar was a bit more lively. For an entree I got the veal parm and it was excellent. Way too huge of a serving to eat at one sitting, it was prepared rather well although the brussel sprouts I got as a side lacked flavor. The bread service before our entrees came out was shameful--microwaved bread? Yeah believe it. The dessert I was compelled to order, some type of chocolate cake was not bad, fresher than I thought it would be and I'd buy it at a bakery. Our waiter was on top of things so service overall we were satisfied with. Reservations might be a good idea on the weekend, but probably not necessary otherwise. The prices were on the steep side but I guess thats the cost of being by the lake. Overall a decent choice for a meal in the area read more

Our experience was horrible. Ordered soda that came to our table flat and when asked server about the soda he said it probably should have been changed, but yet he still brought the flat soda. We ordered potato puff appetizer that had no taste and the garlic bread that had no garlic. We both ordered the captain platter and it was awful. The lobster tail was rubbery and the filet was like no other black Angus I had ever eaten. The meat was tough. Ordered medium well and it came to table very medium rare. But the food was not the issue, the issue was the service we received. When dinner was delivered we were not given clarified butter for lobster tail. We requested the butter and the server brought one serving of butter in his hand. He told us we could share the butter. We explained we ordered two dinners and wanted two butters, again he brought to table in his hand. The family across from us ordered lobster tails and their butters were put on there plates without having to ask. A person in their party asked for more butter and it was served on a dish. There was obvious racial profiling going on. When we told our concerns to the server he said it was an oversight. Why was an oversight for us, but not for the other table? This was a really bad experience and COVID did not play a part in the treatment we received. We were not welcomed and I an sure we will not even be welcomed to give them another chance. I am convinced the actions were only on the server's part and do not represent what management or this restaurant is about, well I am hoping anyway So sorry that my family and I had to have this experience. read more

I had never been to Nolan's before the fire so I'll start by saying I have nothing to compare it to however we loved everything about it. We had reservations but arrived early so we went to the bar which was full. While deciding how to get to the bar to get a drink the lady bartending came out from behind the bar and up to us to get our order. She also suggested and made a drink for me based on what I like since I was undecided. That is amazing service and a great first impression! We were seated quickly after and from then on the service was still top-notch. I had steak au poivre and my only complaint was it was a tad salty for my taste. I upgraded to the ceaser salad and be forewarned, it was huge, enough for both of us. My boyfriend had the prime rib and lobster tail, both cooked perfectly and delicious. We went here for my birthday dinner...sadly, I have to say it set the standard for a poor restaurant experience. Food was ok but service was awful. The waitress was annoyed with us for seemingly everything...going so far as to tell me my half-finished plate of pasta was ready to be cleared because it "looked like I was done." This was as I was holding a fork to my mouth to eat...Service was so bad I actually asked to speak with a manager who offered me a free dessert or a gift card. As we were passing through for one night and I was actually concerned any further food coming out of the kitchen would be spat in by our favorite waitress, we took the gift card, thinking maybe we could return for lunch the next day and get sandwiches for our road trip. Sadly, the SECOND day was worse than the first- we walked in and the hostess ignored us, taking 2 calls on the phone before telling me I had to order takeout online and not in the restaurant. As I stood in the corner figuring out the ordering process, a man came in and asked if he could pre-pay for his friends birthday meal that evening. He even had a card. The hostess literally told him it was an inconvenience for her to do that and he'd have to wait for a manager. In the meantime, the online ordering portal went down and I asked if I could just place an order at the bar, to which I was told no. At this point a nice waitress heard the hostess and told her they DO take carry out orders in the restaurant, rung me up, and expedited our 1 sandwich order. Yeesh. read more
