    Espresso double shot
    Felix W.

I got an espresso. It was a med/dark roast with a decent layer of crema and medium body. I tasted dark chocolate bitterness and nutty flavors. The shot wasn't burnt or overly bitter. More nuanced flavor or creamier texture would have made it even better. 3/5.

Inside the pork banh mi! Mouthwatering!

I'm OBSESSED! This cafe makes the BEST friggin' banh mi sammies and I am so addicted at this point. The true definition of a hidden gem! Nomad is tucked away on a corner off of Shattuck Ave. Street parking only, but it's usually pretty easy to find parking if you're coming during a weekday afternoon. The staff is so incredibly sweet here and it's never been crazy busy when I've visited. It's a small shop but super cozy with both indoor and outdoor seating. I've had several of their drinks (chai tea, smoothies, Thai tea) and everything has tasted really good. But the real reason why I keep coming back here is for those damn banh mi's! I mean... Geezus. They are just... so friggin' good. The bread always tastes so fresh and perfectly crispy like they just took it out of the oven. The meat is always tender and when I ask for spicy, they actually make it spicy. I usually go for the pork chop banh mi and it is always fiyah. I long for that crunch after my first bite. It is just so amazing. A pork chop banh mi with a Thai iced tea on their patio on a warm day is like heaven on earth! You think I'm jokin'... but I ain't! Have yourself one and experience the joy. I have and it's pretty mind blowing. So, sooo grateful to have this little gem down the street from where I work.

    Vietnamese Iced Coffee 16 oz

I stopped by in the morning for a caffeine fix and got their viet iced coffee. It was perfectly sweetened and extremely caffeinated as it should be! The man working was super nice and quick which I appreciated since I was on the way to work. The cafe had some seating and lots of food options I'm definitely going to come back and try for a little weekend cafe hang.

First time here Yelp lead me here as I was searching for Vietnamese coffee in the area. I drove up and found parking right in front YAY This is a little neighborhood spot, very low key and seems to be family owned and locally owned cafe. Inside is well organized and clean. Menu is easy to read Prices are reasonable Customer service is friendly Vietnamese coffee did not disappoint $6.75 Chicken Banh Mi with avocado $12.50 Total $20.29 Street parking only indoor and outdoor seating available

The veggie sandwich on sourdough with hummus, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and onion is fresh and delicious.

Fresh, friendly and delicious are accurate words for Nomad Cafe. My friend and I happened on it while visiting antique stores in Oakland/Berkeley and will definitely go back. Next time I'll try the Bahn mi because they have a large selection including pineapple with tofu that looked intriguing. The veggie sandwich comes with either cream cheese or hummus. I chose the hummus and devoured the freshest most delicious sandwich ever. It had lettuce, tomato, cucumber and onion on sourdough. There are several bread choices. My friend had a tuna on sourdough and said it was perfect and almost over stuffed with great tuna salad. She enjoyed her Vietnamese iced coffee. The people working here are super nice and friendly. We grabbed a table outside to sit in the sun and they brought our sandwiches out to us. Parking was easy in the neighborhood. While I mention veggie options, they have everything an omnivore would want.

Sweet little cafe. I popped in here before a morning meeting to just get hot tea to go. The service was good, everyone was friendly, and they had great loose leaf tea options. I chose the lemon ginger and it was flavorful. They had a nice menu too, so I look forward to returning to get a bite next time.

The lavender latte made my day! This café offers great quality sandwiches and coffee. The outdoor seating is a perfect match for a sunny day. I'll definitely be coming back to spend more time here.

This delicious smoothie is from the next day because I ordered a batch of smoothies for my busy weekend meal prep and let me tell you it was totally worth it! I always order delivery from Nomad Cafe and they always kill it! Even the smoothie with turmeric is so yummy!!! I usually get their smoothies, lattes, breakfast bagel sandwiches and salads they keep me coming back and their smoothies are a delight because I find smoothies difficult to find these days .... Thank you Nomad!! Until next time :)

Nomad's cortado had way too much milk and foam. It seemed more like a latte than anything else.
    Kenneth R.

I drive by Nomad fairly often, usually while looking to go south on the freeway. I was always intrigued by this cafe, which struck me consistently as a friendly and interesting neighborhood place. I finally stopped in with a friend one Saturday morning, expecting an ethereal coffee experience. I'm sorry to report that I didn't get one. I ordered a cortado and found it to have "way too much milk and foam" (according to my photo caption) and to come across like a weak latte. Bummer! My visit was only Strike One. I continue to think of Nomad as friendly and interesting. I hope to try it again.

Nice little cafe that is a great place for enjoying some peace and quiet while getting some work done. I came here on a Sunday morning where the restaurant started getting busy towards the end of my visit. There's a few tables inside and outside for guests. They have a great variety of blended, cold, hot drinks, smoothies and a cooler with energy drinks and other goodies. I tried their pork banh mi which had a sensation of flavors of textures. The pork was super juicy and filling. I also liked their garlic pesto sandwich. The sandwich was very umami and super satisfying. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would come back in the future.

Sometimes it's good to try something different and a place with some interesting character and characters. I usually get deli sandwiches which have deli meats but this place has fried chicken sandwiches . So I was craving a sandwich so I headed to Crave Subs in Downtown Berkeley next to BART station. They have lots of sandwiches available on the menu. On a Summer stroll getting some sun in Downtown Berkeley I landed at Crave Subs. Inside it's like you stepped into an ice cream parlor with a comic book shop and arcade and a deli all at the same time. You will see sandwiches on the menu called the Pikachu, Ned Flanders, and Bart Simpson. You will see Chewbacca fries along with the Spider-Man fries and the vegan Sailormoon fries. I got the Captain Boom Halal Fried Chicken, Boom Boom Sauce, Cheddar Cheese and Crave Sauce on a roll. It was tasty and a bit crunchy and had lots of flavor. It's one of the best Halal chicken sandwiches I had. If you crave a fried chicken sandwich then Crave Subs is the spot. It will "cost "you an extra 50 cents if you want to "floss" with extra drip "sauce" to show off on social media and during OSL my social media feed was stuck in the" Land of OZ" If you want great fried chicken sandwich you don't need to visit KFC or meet the chicken"commanders" like the late "Colonel Sanders" just get a Captain Boom with "Halal chicken standards" or grab a Pikachu sandwich or a turkey sandwich called the "Ned Flanders "

One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there.

We found it very tasty, but paying over $25 for this on DoorDash--certainly not worth the price even though we really enjoyed it. The spicy chicken parm sandwiches were not good. The chicken breast was flabby, and came across like it was one of those frozen cooked Tyson jobs. I would be very surprised if they actually breaded chicken breast, fried it, and made the sandwich with that. It was mushy, and the breading was like paste on the chicken. Pretty awful. They charge extra for sauce, which is a little much, given that we paid $21 for each sandwich. But we figured out pretty quickly why they do this: there was hardly any sauce on the sandwiches. And precious little cheese. We each ate half of our sandwich and figured we doctor the leftovers up the next day with a jar of Rao's and a bag of shredded Italian cheese. That helped, but nothing could save that chicken. The meatballs. We paid $15 for four, and we had high hopes, but they were so mushy that they fell apart in the sauce, and I couldn't tell what was sauce and what was meatballs. The only flavor that came across was fennel. Why any meatball should be so fennel-forward strikes me as bizarre. We got what we thought were pretty basic things, and they were fails. If an Italian place can't make a decent chicken parm sandwich nor a decent meatball, that says something. If you go, try the pinsa.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.
