I've been wanting to try Nomade all year, and wow did it not disappoint. We were sitting at dinner and just thinking how amazing Austin is and the incredible food scene. So when you walk into Nomade you will immediately be blown away by the decor & vibe - definitely that Quintana Roo feel to it with a kinda neutral color palate with light wood tones. Both inside & outside seem like nice places for a meal but we went outside (there are two areas outside and both really cool in their own ways). Great server and he was actually really new but was so well versed on the menu and view that as a good indicator as to how the restaurant is run. As you would imagine the standout is the food - it was bonkers. Server suggested the price fix menu and it was a great idea. The other thing I will say is this might be some of the (if not *the*) best presented food I've ever seen in my life. However, while the server did talk about how the chef views each item, he did not realize how dumb I am (and a diet of basically food trucks, P.Terry's and taco deli), i tried some of the sea salt that the scallop and shell was bedded on. wowsa. Had an absolute stellar meal here recently. Made reservations for a 7:00 dinner. We started off with a couple of signature cocktails. I recommend looking over their Mezcal offerings. We then ordered their chips with three salsas and the beet salad. The salsas were tasty but the beet salad stole the show. My date ordered the tuna tostada, I ordered the duck tostada and we shared the enmoladas verde. Everything was cooked on point, incredibly flavorful, unique and just a feast for the tastebuds. Run, don't walk! We drove past this place one Sunday (Mother's Day) and the cafe we went to had an hour wait, so I called Nomade to see what their wait was and it was FIVE HOURS (5!). So, my son and I were spontaneously driving down So 1st again and decided to stop in and try our luck on a Monday night. SO GLAD WE DID! It was spectacular!! Ok...food is incredible! Their tapas are generously portioned (for example: the wagyu tacos come with 3 and they're pretty stacked), and the servers do an incredible job at explaining the menu. The flavors are well balanced, and every bite I took seemed to be a "perfect bite". The ambience, which is a mix of interior and exterior tented seating, is like a bougie Tulúm eatery without all the obnoxiousness. Areas for improvement: the cocktails were just...alright. When I got my fish tacos they looked interesting (super black breading) but genuinely they were cold like cooler than room temp which is slightly concerning. The service was ok. Nothing remarkable. Five stars all around. We had an amazing experience at Nomade Cocina. Gary, our server, made us feel so welcome and gave excellent recommendations. I would eat here everyday if I could. The food was the best food I've ever had in my life. The ambiance was beautiful and so well done since it's a newly built restaurant and the service was awesome. THE BIG: Located in South Austin on S 1st street and W Monroe. Walking in, you are teleported to a bohemian tulum resort. It's quite nice. Indoor/outdoor seating available. Small private lot in the back, otherwise street parking is available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here for Austin Restaurant week which had 4 courses for $60. We made a reservation ahead of time but they accept walk-ins as well. For food, we started off with the raw which we selected the scallop crudo and tuna tostada. The scallop crudo was delicious and paired very well with the leche de tigre sauce. The appetizer, we got the panucho, aka a pibil tostada and the camarones. The camarones was awesome and everything was flame grilled. Our mains included the wagyu bistec and the grilled branzino. Let me tell you, that branzino was fire. So much flavor with the Carribean coconut curry. And finally the sweets were the mango passion sorbet and the coconut flan. All dairy free, which was music to my ears! THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done was around $130. Expect small plates (not only for Austin restaurant week), but a great spot to have nice yucatan cuisine. read more

I give this place 4 stars for the vibes. Beautiful decor, felt like I stepped into Tulum. I liked that they had heaters as well. A lot of the dishes were too sour for my taste. Ceviche was good though. I was expecting the crispy pork belly to be crispier, so it was somewhat of a letdown. My favorite was probably the coconut flatbread with chimichurri. The bread was so soft and warm. Our server was nice. There was a mistake on the final bill which I didn't notice until the following day. However, I called the restaurant and it was a breeze to rectify things. The person I spoke to on the phone was so accommodating and sweet. Would definitely come back to try their other dishes. There are some heavy hitters on this menu here! Nômadé is a great dinner spot with features such as a possible plant-based menu, impressive drinks list, and new brunch option. The place is a bit small inside but not cramped. The noise level is average, I'm not shouting to hear my date across the table. The service was great, no complaints. For the food, they all were a degree of good to great. Please check the pictures for context, but if you're going to absolutely swear on picking one, PLEASE pick the jaiba frita. Every component was delicious from the little tortillas, the spreads and veggies, and the wonderful soft-shell crab. It came with two tacos which makes it awesome for sharing. I would say it was much more worth it than the duck panucho, but both were good. The crudos were good, but the campechana mixto is definitely our pick over the hamachi ceviche. The ceviche had mezcal lime, and I actually love mezcal and lime, but it felt like it overpowered the taste a bit of the fish. When it comes to raw fish, I want to taste how good and flavorful the flesh is, but the texture of the espuma paired with the fish didn't give me an interesting mouthfeel or out of this world taste. It wasn't bad, but with how diverse and delicious the campechana was, it was an easy win. For the entrees, I picked the chicken and my date picked the Wagyu bistec. The chicken is priced much lower than the other mains, but it is absolutely perfect in every way! Quite possible one of the best chicken dishes I've had with an amazing few zucchini slices that I wish I had even more of. I typically enjoy Wagyu in a raw, Japanese form, but it actually was quite delicious! There were masa coins that added a good addition. For the drinks, I would stay away from the Jamaica fizz, but la jungla was so good! I also spiked some non-alcoholic drinks with a shot from the bar by a recommendation from our waiter. Pretty solid date night spot that also takes walk ins! I can see myself coming back literally just for that soft shell crab taco. Between 4 of us we shared 5 starters and 2 entrees. All the of fish dishes were refreshing and had flavorful sauces. We started with tuna crudo, scallop aqua chile, coconut burrata, and soft she'll crab and cauliflower tacos. The homemade tortilla chips were crispy and complemented the dishes well.. we even ate any excess sauce just on a spoon. For entrees, we shared the sea bass in coconut curry and the waygu Bistec. We ordered one mezcal and one blanco marg, which were both delicious. We also ordered the campecheana mixto and the hamachi ceviche. The mint foam on the ceviche really was a stand out. The mixto was good, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd go ceviche. The seafood was fresh and each dish had a decent portion. The salsa trio was just ok. I'm from Florida and this place is giving SOBE vibes like a mother. It was hot af outside but even the covered outside spaces were packed when we left. We got there right at 10:30 open on a Sunday for brunch. Their little parking lot was full but I parked next door for a whopping $18 at the public parking garage. It's convenient but expensive. Our server Anthony was the absolute best and it was all of our first times going so he was the ultimate host recommending all the things. We decided to order a ton and share everything between the three of us and it was the perfect amounts to share. Not gonna lie, some of the images on Yelp looked tiny and singular so I was concerned I'd be hungry of if I didn't spend a ton but we did good and it was worth it. The drinks were divine. I'm of Caribbean descent and it was reminiscent of home with the tropical zero proof, to the point where we just asked if they could make them alcoholic with our preferred liquor. I'll be back! Not only is it a vibe, they are gluten free and they do not play about it so if you are celiac then you will be at home. No contamination and don't you dare try to bring your own cake or treats, they will tell you it can't come in and put it in your car! As far as allergies, the menu doesn't call out other allergens at all so if you can't have certain things like nuts or dairy, etc... I suggest calling ahead to make sure. Everything was good. Our waitress informed us that it was 1/2 price wine night making our choice of libation easy. We sipped while reviewing the interesting menu which was full of unique takes on somewhat familiar dishes. My wife and I wanted to share some dishes so we could try more things. We opted for the duck and bean tostada as a starter. This was the highlight of the meal. It was a fabulous blending of tastes and textures. Bright yet rich. The accompanying salsa was killer hot so be cautious! We followed with the coconut burrata salad which was light and unique. Here is the reason for the 3 stars: There was a half organic chicken special that evening that sounded interesting. It was $38 which seemed a bit steep for chicken but since we were sharing we decided to go for it. We were served a very well designed plate with an airline style chicken breast on it along with a couple of small, nondescript morsels of chicken. I asked the waitress if this was the wrong item because there was a chicken breast on the regular menu also stating that we were big fans of dark meat. After talking to the chef she related to us that it was under the breast. Lifting it revealed nothing. She went to dive deeper into this mystery and a manager showed up at the table a few moments later. We asked where the thigh and leg were and he basically said, "Sorry, it's an organic chicken and this is how they come," and walked away. We were flabbergasted. Did he expect us to swallow this bs? If the future i suggest that they either change the description of the dish or provide what they promised. This left a very bad taste in our mouths, (figuratively, not actually,) after an otherwise lovely evening. read more

We loved every bit from scallops to softshell crab tacos, ceviche, enchiladas, churros, and passion fruit sorbet! They even gave me a Mother's Day special card with a couple of chocolates that were really yummy that the kids and I could split! This is yet another location I wish I lived closer to because I would love to go there again soon. There was also a public garage nearby that offered 2 hours of free parking...amazing thing to have nearby in Austin. Well, where to start. For starters, everything was excellent: atmosphere, service & the food. Walking in you'll definitely get Tulum vibes and the environment is casual & chill but still chic & trendy. The food, though, is the real star. The ceviches & crudos were the absolute standouts. The scallop crudo atop leche de Tigre took me back to Peru. The tuna crudo, served in an adorable tiny coconut, was packed with flavor. The mezcal foam was a nice touch to the hamachi crudo, balancing the bitterness extremely well. For dessert, we split the gluten free tres leches and WOW. Likely a top 10 dessert I've had in the past year and just an awesome bonus that it also happens to be gluten free. Nomade is a charming oasis on S 1st that makes you feel as if you've been transported. If you're wanting to feel like you're at a tropical beach club without booking a plane ticket, this is the spot. The atmosphere is definitely the best and most appealing aspect of this restaurant. We also enjoyed the food that we had: the Coconut Flatbread, Tuna Crudo, and Jaiba Frita were all unique and super tasty. I appreciated the diverse flavors in their dishes and the variety of offerings they had while still keeping the menu small. I also have to commend them for having an entirely gluten free menu- that's often a difficult feat to achieve while still making everything delicious! Speaking of delicious, the churro on the dessert menu was truly the best churro I've ever had. Out of all the dishes, I was most impressed with that one. Unfortunately I have to dock them down to 4 stars due to a less than pleasant interaction we had with the staff when we asked to switch seats: after waiting a while to be seated, even with a reservation, they sat us in the corner of a tent outside of the main seating area with a fan blowing directly on us. It had also just rained and there was a wet garbage smell right outside the tent, it made for a pretty unfortunate seating arrangement. When we asked to move to one of the many open two person tables in the main part of the restaurant, we were rudely shut down by the hostess. Even though everything else about the experience was good, that really soured the night. A restaurant can't be 5 stars if it doesn't have hospitalitable service (or if it places guests in a damp and smelly corner when they were expecting "jungle oasis" vibes!) The owner contacted me the following day, and after some time to process, I'm moving my rating to a 3. We arrived early for our reservation; the hostess was a bit confusing, telling us there was no room at the bar, so sit next to the bar and she was uncertain if we could get a drink unfortunately, it might have been her first week.. My main issue was the service and delays. We ordered the set menu, but it took forever for food to arrive. We were there for two hours and didn't even get to the mains before we had to ask for the rest to be boxed up. Our waitress seemed unhappy that we were frustrated, and even after we asked for the boxes, it took another 25 minutes to actually get them and leave. Lastly, the drinks weren't great. The margarita was average, but the Corazon Hibiscus was so syrupy it was undrinkable. The server never checked in on why the drink was left full. Had such a great experience here! Sat outside on a windy chilly night and the heaters were very warm and the screens blocked out the wind really well. Also no street noise + the layout of the restaurant keeps it from getting too noisy. The actual parking lot is kind of small and gets crowded around dinner time, but there's a paid public parking garage right across the street with lots of space. Paid $7 for 3 hour parking in the garage. The food and drinks were AMAZING. Luke recommended dishes/portions and was very knowledgeable about each dish. Would 100% recommend getting the Makum.
