Dropped by for dinner service with my husband and loved the experience. When we arrived around 6pm it was pretty full but there was room for us to choose between seats at a table or bar. We started with glasses of wine - vino verde - and a delicious bread with tomatoes and jamon. The menu is tapas style with a Spanish and Portuguese flair. We then enjoyed mains of a burger and steak frites -- both great options. The steak was over cooked but thankfully our server gave us a heads up before ordering to try and mitigate it. amazing brunch spot! my friend and I were exploring San Diego and found this brunch spot to stay our day. I am so glad we did! Vibes were immaculate and the staff was so super friendly and chill. Nómade is just getting underway in Normal Heights offering Spanish tapas, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The European-style wine bars opens at 10 am daily and closes at 10 pm, except Fridays and Saturdays when the bar closes at 1 am. I stopped in for a light breakfast and had the ricotta pistcachio toast and cortado. The toast came on a thick artisan sourdough toast with creamy ricotta cheese, zesty lemon, delicious honey, and garnished with a host of crushed pistachios. The toast was $14. I enjoyed the toast very much. All the ingredients had very good flavors. I really liked the honey and the pistachios. I do recommend they put a better toast on the bread. One side was well toasted and the other was just touched by a little heat. At any rate, it was a great toast. Manuela, one of the bar keeps, made a terrific cortado. It was smooth and rich in coffee flavors and had a good robust finish. I just which that they would follow tradition and serve the cortado with a small side of carbonated water. The service was super friendly. My server, a young gent, had a good sense of humor and manners. I look forward to returning to try more taps and bites. read more

We sat down and immediately fell in love with the interior and the overall vibe, and you could tell it was curated well. We came for the tapas and cocktails, so we didn't try any of the main entrees. Cocktails were definitely on the lighter side, and didn't taste like there was much alcohol in them. The tapas were decent, and nothing to write home about. 2 stars -- mainly for the ambiance. I really wanted to like this place, but after visiting twice, both experiences were disappointing. If you go on a Sunday, be prepared for limited menu options -- they tend to be out of quite a few dishes. The steak frites was particularly underwhelming; the steak itself was just sad, and the sauces served with it somehow made it worse. The croquettes arrived lukewarm instead of hot, and the crispy rice was just average. Even the cocktail I ordered wasn't great, so I switched to wine for my next drink. Service was okay but slow -- our server took quite a while to check in on us. Overall, I wouldn't return or recommend this place unless you're going strictly for the wine and ambiance. Came to Nomade on a Friday morning to get some work done and it was a great experience all around. They had very ambient music playing, our waiter was super nice, and the food and drinks were great. The breakfast burrito had all of my ideal fillings (wish it came with a salsa instead of the side aiolis, but they were still good) and the cappuccino was to die for. Perfectly sweet and creamy with a strong espresso flavor. I arrived around 10 am and there was plenty of seating, but it started getting pretty busy around noon when we left. Went to Nómade on a Tuesday night around 5pm. Super cute inside but not a wow experience. This is definitely a place to share a drink or start your night. Wine was delicious and we got two bottles. My biggest gripe is the size of the dishes. I unfortunately did not check out yelp before I went and was not prepared for the ant sized appetizers. The shrimp appetizer was 3 little pieces that I could not believe I offered to share. Crispy rice was delicious but again small. Would love to come back for more wine but I'll make sure to have dinner reservations after ready unless you're drinking your calories. read more

I am giving this a 3 star rating because we went and left with ordering. While the atmosphere was great, I was disappointed to find out that they use beef tallow for all their cooking. We specifically ordered vegetarian items, and it wasn't until after we had ordered that our server mentioned the use of animal fat. This information isn't listed on their website or the physical menu. I'm sharing this so others with dietary restrictions aren't caught off guard. I really hope the management considers adding a small note or icon to their menu and website--transparency about ingredients like this is so important for the community! We tried a lot of things on their menu and most unfortunately missed the mark: burnt bread, tasteless meatballs, chewy shrimp, overly spicy sauces... simply not a place I can recommend for tapas. Service was ok but, their servers need to know when to return burnt bread to the kitchen and not put it on the table. If they are going for a wine place, they need to tell you they have more wines than their limited wine by the glass menu right away. I really wish I could've liked this place. The Earl Grey Matcha was extremely mid. My boyfriend enjoyed his iced cappuccino. We went back a second time to try the breakfast with no drinks. I feel this place is the epitome of a quintessential neighborhood spot... I just wish it were in my neighborhood. Buzzy and bright and welcoming. The space is beautiful with friendly service, records spinning (I feel like they chose to play Brandy followed by Ashanti for me and my fellow elder millennial friend), and delicious wine and tapas. Everything just feels comfortable, like I could pop in solo for a coffee at the counter or a spontaneous glass of wine and snack, and be on my way, and still have the best time because of the ambiance. It's also a few stops down from An's, so post- or pre-gelato makes the location even better. It can be tricky to find parking along this stretch, but being here at 4 PM on a weekday made it easy to find a space out front where only one sidewalk table witnessed me trying to (successfully, on the first try!) parallel park. read more

Nomade has been flying under the radar for a while but don't expect it to stay that way for too long. They offer a small selection of drinks and bites where the focus is definitely on the quality than the quantity. Their lunch portions are big enough to share with two people, if you're looking for a light brunch/lunch. Their dinner menu is more tapas style but there are larger portions for those looking for a sizable meal. While I usually leave my review with recommendations, I thoroughly enjoyed all the items on the menu. The only exception was the Katsu Sando since we skipped on ordering that one. For lunch, I'd say the matcha was decent but I like to have mine taste earthier. Their cocktails do not miss. I did wish their espresso cocktail was a bit creamier but we enjoyed it regardless. Walking into this place transports you to a listening bar atmosphere unlike any other in San Diego, it honestly feels like the kind of place in Mexico City I've been and thought "this feels so nice, I wish we had this in San Diego." I came here with my guy as we live only a block away and have been eagerly waiting to see what would take over this spot. Nomade is a cute tapas and records bar but they don't have a full liquor license and their cocktails are wine based. This didn't bother us since we are both dry at the moment. We walked in on a Sunday around 5:30PM, were able to pick our own seats and both the bar and tables were open. 4/5 Grey fox: Earl grey mocktail - very bright and sour, not much earl grey taste but I did enjoy this. Minus points for the presentation - the bitters were literally dripping off of the glass, we were both surprised the bartender didn't wipe this down before serving to us. 3/5 Matrimonio: I love anchovies. This one felt unbalanced? The bread in particular was dry and stale, and the tomato not being cut down further meant you get one bite with tomato and the other 1 or 2 bites with no tomato. 2/5 Shrimp skewer: the shrimp body was very overcooked (stuck to the skewer and dry) and the shrimp head was undercooked (still too soft). I'm used to shrimp heads at omakase restaurants being fried to a crisp perfection. 3/5 steak frites: the cut of the steak was low quality - after I put a piece in my mouth a server came over and gave us steak knives. Bad timing because I actually literally almost choked - I took a bite before the steak knives thinking I'd be able to chew it through, but because the meat was so sinewy I couldn't and proceeded to near choke! I ended up pulling the entire piece out of my throat it was an interesting experience to be sure. My guy who likes a fatty/gristly steak said the ends were too gristly even for him and he couldn't chew through some pieces either. The tallow fries are great but needed more salt. This has a higher rating than the shrimp because the flavor of the crust was good and so was the chimichurri that was served with the steak, as well as the fries. Service was good and very friendly/attentive. The vibes are great. All in all, if you're here for drinks and vibes I think you'll have a great time. If you're looking to spend money on food I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

We walked in at 5ish and were luckily seated instantly with the last table! The vibes were amazing here, they had records playing and was filled with a cool, younger crowd. I had our girls night planned for this place since I've wanted to try it for a while. The clam pasta was so delicious, had a bit of a spice kick to it but not super spicy at all. The steak frites were great, the fries were delicious but I will say the steak was a little overcooked and chewy for me but non-the-less still very delicious. The bartender curated the perfect drink for my friend and all the drinks were so incredibly good, I might say one of the best drink menus I've ever experienced at a restaurant! They were not too sweet and actually refreshing - mind you, I do not like the taste of alcohol very much but I can appreciate it a little bit when done well. I made a reservation and arrived a little early, so we were asked to wait for a table, which was completely understandable. Shortly after, another party arrived and was seated right away, and we were seated immediately after them not an issue. We ordered around the same time, but that's when things became frustrating. The other table received their food first, finished their meal, and we still hadn't received ours. At that point, it had been about 40 minutes since we ordered, with no explanation or update from the staff. The restaurant wasn't busy, and there were a few open tables, so the wait didn't make much sense. Eventually, I was told that my order had never been put in only my husbands I remained polite with the server, but by then I was extremely hungry and stressed from waiting so long so I payed and left. The food itself is good, and the place is nice, but waiting that long especially in a small restaurant with no communication and for an order that was never placed is unacceptable. Unfortunately, the experience was frustrating enough that I probably wouldn't return terrible service! read more

Brand new spot opened up in our neighborhood. It's giving exactly what this area was missing. A beautiful location that sets the vibe perfectly to get dressed up, eat and drink good, and chat. I've been here a few times since they opened as a "last drink of the night" spot. The lighting is spectacular and gives a sexy ambiance to any night.
