I've heard about this place for a while and glad I was finally in the neighborhood and stopped by to check it out. My mom and I stopped in and had our pick of tables on the patio. It was a perfect summer night and the vibe on the patio is casual but nice. We decided on a cup of tomato basil, a Caesar salad and the gnocchi with shrimp and bacon and lemon sauce. Everything was truly fantastic. The flavors were amazing and I especially loved the Caesar salad -- it was light but flavorful and the croutons were good too. I had eaten here many years ago and it was amazing. This trip though was very average at best. The service was great. The food was just okay. It was chain restaurant quality at best. I had the cioppino but the shrimp were overcooked, mussels gritty, and sauce just okay. It didn't really have any flavor (good or bad). Recently dined with a friend, meal was fine, service friendly, pleasant atmosphere. Would opt for an alternate Italian option to try before returning. We had a calamari appetizer which came with a marinara and a red pepper aioli. The calamari coating was light and crispy yet quite oily. Salads were fresh and tasty. Pasta entrees were good - nice shrimp in the Fra Diavolo yet no spice, lots of garlic. My friend had a chicken parm dish and enjoyed it. I have been here two times total. The first time I went on my own about an hour and a half from closing time. I sat at the bar. Ordered pasta and a drink. Was only asked by the bartender one time if I wanted another drink. Mind you, there were more staff than patrons at this point in the evening. The pasta was subpar at best. It wasn't very hot and it was mushy. Overall a disappointment. I went a second time because everyone deserves a second chance. Went around 7pm with a friend about 3-4 months ago. Probably a year since the first experience. Was seated at a table and we were the only ones in the section. Again, more staff than patrons. Got a baked type of pasta and it was horrible. The waiter said they were putting the cheese on top to make it melty, so I thought the dish would be hot...and it was barely lukewarm. It's a quaint Neighborhood Italian Restaurant located in Downtown Robbinsdale. Parking is free on the street and in lots surrounding the area. They feature classic pasta dishes, Italian wines & specialty martinis. I did have a hard time choosing what I wanted, as there were so many dishes that sounded good. Luckily, my server was super knowledgeable on all dishes & did a great job giving detail to help me pick the perfect dish. I will say I wish they featured some more non alcoholic options like an n/a wine. Each entrée comes w/ house made bread & soup of the day or salad. Bruschetta - fresh diced Roma tomatoes, basil, garlic, extra virgin olive oil served over fire roasted bread. This is honestly the best bruschetta I have had! Chicken Mediterraneo - chicken sauteed w/ a red wine, feta cream sauce topped w/ kalamata olives, garlic, mushrooms, & onions over a bed of fettuccine noodles. You can also get pork w/ this dish. Spicy Shrimp Fra Diavolo - Jumbo Shrimp, spicy blend of mushrooms, peppers, & onions in a garlic butter cream sauce over fettuccine noodles. Shrimp Cannelloni - Scallops & Shrimp rolled into a tube noodle w/ mozzarella; ricotta, & parmesan cheeses baked in a brandy cream sauce. This was fantastic and definitely hit the spot. REVIEW FOR TAKE-OUT Italian takeout is one of my favorite "best kept secrets"! I ordered their lasagna. It cost me $22, but it came with a soup (today's was a chicken stew and it was AMAZING), and bread and whipped butter! I was able to set up a cute Italian dinner at home (just add wine!). The lasagna was very flavorful and a good texture. I don't love every lasagna out there, so that's saying something! It could have been warmer, but a quick pop in the microwave is no big deal. NOTE - I don't believe the lasagna is on their online pick up menu, but I called in and they were happy to enter the order for me! The staff was friendly and quick - it took 20 minutes to be ready on a Thursday night. Will definitely be back, and might get dessert next time! This place was a major disappointment. We picked the spot as a special celebration location for a birthday diner based on excellent past experience but it was nothing like it used to be. After visiting I did a quick search to see that the spot was sold in 2020 and again in 2022. It is nothing like the true authentic Italian that we remembered pre 2020. Upon walking in for an early dinner (5pm on a Saturday) we saw various people hanging around the bar in very casual clothes and quickly realized they were employees after they greeted us. We got seated and our waiter was nice enough but felt oddly both rushed and forgotten throughout or dinner. For example, we sat down and he wanted to take our order right away, but then forgot to bring us bread until after our soups and salads were nearly done. Food was subpar. Salads were shredded lettuce with store croutons and soup was overly salty. Our appetizer of bruschetta was good and got good reviews from our kids but was overly sweet for my liking. For entrees we got baked pasta, chicken fettuccine, linguine ai frutti de mare and cioppono. Pastas all seemed overcooked, chicken appeared prepackaged and seafood was either gritty or seemingly previously frozen. The whole visit was kind of eh and left us wishing we had picked another location. If you haven't made your way over to West Broadway before you should definitely at it on your eats list! There are a ton of cute shops, eateries, and even a butcher shop! I was in the mood for some good eats Italian, you know like the kind where you imagine an adorable Italian grandma hand rolling noodles and stirring a giant pot of sauce with an oversized ladle spoon. You guys... it's so bad. Our server was lovely, the patio was nice, but the food is one of the worst things I have ever experienced at any restaurant ever. The only good thing we had was the garlic cheesy bread, which we can make at home. The gnocchi was an awful weird texture, the pasta was way over cooked - please do yourselves a favor and avoid. I had my fave - Gnocchi Mare Monte - Potato dumplings tossed with crispy pancetta, jumbo shrimp & chopped asparagus in a white wine lemon cream sauce. NUMMY!! Melts in your mouth and an enormous burst of just right flavors with every bite! And to top it off they have their hands on the best, most attentive waiter ever. Getting off of work early in Fridays affords me the opportunity to lunch at places I might not otherwise visit. This is how we came upon Nonna Rosa's restaurant. We ordered the Arancelli for a starter. Unfortunately, it was not a tasty delight that we had anticipated. I've not really had this dish since leaving the east coast, so I was excited to see if I could indulge again living here. Well, there wasn't any real flavor and the outer crust was much crunchier and drier than it should have been. We both ordered gnocchi with different sauces. Honestly, this doesn't matter as neither dish had very little flavor. The only thing that gave my weird combo flavor was the olives. The service was fine. We prefer to dine at non-chain restaurants, because we like to keep the local economy going. Typically, these places offer a great dining experience. I wish that I could say the same here. read more

I'm not sure why the reviews of Nona Rosa are so inconsistent. We tend to dine early and therefore don't have the service issues that others have mentioned and that might be the key. I wouldn't say the service was overly attentive, but we have found it to be friendly and sufficient. My guess this is not the case when they get overly busy. I have been coming here for years and almost always, the food has been consistently excellent. I have not noticed any changes to the menu or food quality with a (reported) recent change of ownership. Last night, instead of an entrée, I ordered two appetizers, the Mussels Italiano ($13.99), and the bruschetta (happy hour price until 6 pm of $7.00). The mussels were honestly one of the best bowls of mussels I've ever had and that's really saying something. The quantity was huge (honestly, I didn't need to have ordered the bruschetta). It was more than plentiful as an entrée. But even more importantly, it was chocked with cooked tomatoes, onions, garlic, parsley, wine and spices and served with toasted crusty bread which was perfect for dipping. It came in a bowl filled with what was really a soup that was perfect for eating with a spoon. All in all, the mussels rated a strong 10/10. The bruschetta was beautiful to look at and came with four large portions of diced tomatoes, garlic, basil, and olive oil over tasty, crunchy bread. It had a balsamic drizzle, and I shamelessly had them grate parmesan cheese over it. It tasted as good as it looked. My wife had the chicken marsala ($19.99). She enjoyed it and said that it tasted great, but it was a bit heavy looking because it is served over fettuccini noodles. She also enjoyed a glass of Chianti wine ($9.00) that was discounted $2 because it was before 6 pm (happy hour pricing). The vibe of this restaurant is really nice and it fits that niche between casual and fancy. I very much recommend this place and hope that the apparent laps in service can be corrected for those who come at busier times. read more

Went to this place on a Sunday after church about 2:30p. Walked in and saw a group of four ladies seated...besides that the place was empty from what I saw. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I was told I could sit anywhere...I chose a small table close to the parking lot door. Two couples came in after and sat on the patio. I ordered the chicken fettuccine with a house salad. I was reading previous reviews about bread...I had none...not sure if I was supposed to but anyway. Salad was good...Chicken fettuccine tasted like it was boxed...like a frozen meal from Walmart....chicken definitely was pre packaged. I had to add a lot of salt and pepper to my dish.....My server was good he kept checking on me which I appreciated. You could definitely hear the cook asking the server whom was trying to help say did you do this...did you do that...It was extremely quiet...no music playing...no customers talking....dead silent which was uncomfortable. Conveniently they were able to accommodate our group of 6 on a Saturday night without reservations. Our server was friendly and the food was good. Our group enjoyed the Stuffed Mushrooms, Baked Mostaccioli, Spaghetti Carbonara, and Lasagna the most. The Calamari and Spicy Shrimp Fra Diavolo were okay. Each entree came with bread, soup or salad. Decided to have dinner here on a whim. I admit now it was a big mistake. We got seated pretty quickly but our server didn't show up for about 15 minutes. When she finally did arrive, she seemed off. I hate to call folks out but you can find her name in other reviews on this page. I'm still not sure what her issue was. We ordered an app and our meals, which all came with salads. Only 3 of the 4 salads ever came. We were in a hurry so we didn't mention it and of course our oblivious server never stopped by the table to notice. As for the food, some folks at my table thought it wasn't bad. Mine was pretty much terrible. I had veal picatta- so avoid that. We finally flagged down the waitress to get the check and when I found we could pay online without involving her more, I was elated. That was really the only good thing about this visit. The Cioppino was inedibly spicy (and we didn't even order the spicy version) and the fish was over cooked... and the entire dish smelled like a farm... odd I know but everyone at the table agreed. to update my review for this place. A while back we went to this establishment to eat, but ended up leaving because nobody served our table about 20 minutes of sitting at our table. We took a chance and ordered their food via a food delivery service. Overall it was nice. They get four stars because they cooked their pasta truly el dente which I appreciated. We ordered three entrees: 1. Ravioli Bolognese: Again Ravioli cooked perfectly, sauce was well balanced and flavourful. I would eat this again. 2. Pork Marsala: This sauce seemed more akin to a stroganoff than a marsala dish I have had in previous experiences. pasta was just right, Personally I kinda expected the pork to be pounded out which I think is more aligned with the tradition in my experience. 3. Baked Mastaccioli: This was my entree, but sadly it didn't arrive with my order so I can't comment on it other than our group was shorted an entree which was greatly dicappointing. 4. Insalata Mela: Great salad. the greens were crips and the dressing was provided in a seperate container so nothing wilted. 5. Arancini: I was surprised at the size fo these. we recieved approximately baseball sized arancinis. It would be nicer and more manageable if these were smaller. These could have been really, really good, but this appetizer was literally a salt bomb. It really overtook all the flavours in the sauce, the cheese and the rice. I was a bit disappointed. We were greeted promptly and in a friendly manner and given menus because we requested them as we were deciding between a few nearby restaurants. When this place first opened the food was amazing. It seems to be getting worse each time I go there. I used to love their shrimp scampi and have tried it a couple times since then and every time it's a little worse than the last. My tried one more time and had the shrimp scampi. The pasta was extremely overcooked and it formed a congealed mess on the plate. I couldn't twirl it at all because it was so stuck together that when I tried to twirl it it would just get pulled into little pieces. Shrimp was slightly overcooked and a little chewy. The sauce had an okay flavor,but not enough garlic. It was also not a true shrimp scampi sauce. With shrimp scampi, I believe the shrimp should be the star and this was just kind of a hot mess. My dinner companions had salmon and chicken alfredo and neither were impressed with either the portion sizes or the flavor. I waitress was very nice but she was very distracted. Seemed like she was also doing bartending. We had to ask several times for refills on drinks. Were seated with 20 min left of happy hour, I mentioned that we wanted to order drinks during HH, but the server didn't show up until it was ending. Not sure if they gave us the discount, because there are no cocktail prices listed on menu. The Italian Martini was good, but was served in the smallest martini glass I've ever seen. It took so long to order the drinks and get them, that we asked to place our dinner order when drinks arrived. Food was good, but we needed water refills and had to ask 2-3 times before we got water. We wanted to order wine with our dinner, but she never came back to our table until the food arrived. At that point we were afraid it might not get to our table until we were finished eating. Had to ask for a to-go box 3 times. Salmon was over cooked beyond edible. The mashed potatoes were cold on both plates. The veggies were old and so shriveled up. Disgusting! The veal was tough. The tortellini was so bad it went back immediately and that person ate McDonald's. Our server "Unique" was obviously high. She wrote everything down and still got everything wrong. Took her the longest time to even bring me an iced tea after several reminders. She literally kept leaning over and putting her elbows on our table she couldn't even barely stand up. We went for lunch yesterday for our first visit. We found a quaint, locally owned Italian restaurant serving very good and fresh food. I tried a roasted red pepper soup. It was excellent. My wife had a pork ciabatta sandwich and pronounced it one of the best she ever had. My chicken parmigiana was very good. Service was great. The only thing holding back from five stars was a somewhat limited lunch menu. The menu is much expanded for dinner. We will definitely return for dinner. read more

Never going back! I am new to the area, and I love good Italian food. Not wanting to hate the place on one try, I went three times. Now I know my first try was correct, this place is a fake and the food sucks. First time I tried the gnocchi it was inconsistent and several gnocchi were still attached to each other. I think they had it pre-made weeks ago or bought it pre-made. The second time I ordered veal piccata. What got was a deep fried breaded piece of veal (never ever saw that before and I have had veal piccata in Italy) in a Cream sauce (what?) with a handful of capers. The sides were veggies and mashed potato that was not well mashed. For my own punishment I went a third time and tried the veal piccata. Much worse than the first time. The size of the breaded veal was 1/4 of the size the first time, and over cooked, dry, and like cardboard. I did complain and did get a discount. But I am never never ever going back. read more
