Came here about a month ago with the bf for date night and it was great! It's a cute Italian restaurant that has live music on Friday and Saturday evenings with a guitar player. Very romantic. We sat on the 2nd floor balcony which was nice because we could see the entire first floor and listen to the sounds of the kitchen below us as well. Before you can even order your meal, the waiter brought us the bread and fresh garlic to dip our bread in. So delicious! We had to ask for another roll of bread because it was just that good. Our waiter was great! Hopefully we can get him again :D. I decided to try the Portobello Mushroom Ravioli ($14) that's served in this rich, creamy garlic sauce. It's quite a heavy dish but AMAZING! My bf tried the house lasagna but we both agreed that I had the best dish that night! We will definitely be coming back because of the romantic atmosphere, delicious food, and charming staff. Brought to Springfield for a swim meet, I lucked out and ended up having a date-night opportunity sans children. Nonna's caught our eye. In downtown Springfield, which pleasantly surprised me for a small-market city, Nonna's was located on one of the main drags running through it. Not much to look at on the outside but the art and photo walls, with a small upstairs landing, was appealing to the eye. Not the most romantic venue, but the menu is authentic and the food was satisfying. Prices were commensurate to the options and quality. We shared the toasted ravioli, which is a little hard to come by sometimes, but it's the only way I like my ravioli so I must say: Yummy. We had a bottle of a Pinot Noir (wine selection was a tad weak) and shared the seared tuna steak with freshly steamed vegetables. The veggies were perfect and the tuna was 'good.' My honey liked the tuna more than I and again, it was fine for the price, but I've had so much better. On the whole, we fared well, and I have no regrets. I have been going to Nonna's for years, and always have a good experience. My husband and I love to come here for special occasions when we don't want to spend much money. It's especially great for vegetarians as there are numerous items to choose from. My favorite dish is the Mushroom Ravioli, and the Eggplant Parmesan is a close second. If your feeling particularly hungry, the house salad is a perfect starter. They also give you some Italian bread with olive oil, freshly crushed garlic, and parmesan cheese. For parties and large groups, you can easily call ahead and reserve the upper balcony. It's one of my favorites spaces in Springfield, overlooking the restaurant and part of the kitchen. We stopped for lunch on Sunday. It was bad weather and not many people were here. After eating I can guarantee it was the weather keeping people away. My son had the spaghetti with marinara and meatball and that was delicious. The bread that comes out is homemade and soft and amazing and everything you hope for in bread when you go out but rarely get. Really wanted to try their desserts but had to get back on the road. I had the seafood lasagna and it was amazing! The sauce was nothing short of spectacular. The mussels in the seafood lasagna were very flavorful and cooked to perfection. I don't love it so much to eat two giant pieces of it along with a chicken breast and vegetables for lunch. One piece, on its own, was about the size of a bar of gold. I had troubles making it through one of them. Still, it was tasty; I just question the portion size. As for the rest of the meal, the carrots were undercooked; otherwise, the veggies were rather tasty. The chicken was overcooked, although flavorful. My family and I went to Nonna's because we had been craving Italian. We ended up going to the right place. The food ended up being spectacular, but that's not why I am writing this review. Steven, our waiter, was absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately for him, he was the only waiter in the restaurant; however, this isn't stop him from serving everyone with kindness and in a speedy manner (despite being the only one there). At the time we arrived, there was only one other group in the cafe. We were followed by 5 or 6 more groups of people. I was able to watch fist hand as he waited on everyone in a wonderful manner. Nonna's has a very casual/intimate atmosphere and would make for a a great date night dinner to a night out with the family. Prices were very fair, and the entrée size was very filling. I shared an order of the toasted 3 cheese ravioli, and have to say that it was very good I would highly recommend that you give it a shot. One item that I really wish that I would have tried was the fried lasagna. I really wanted to give this place five stars but the service just wasn't there. We walked in and sat ourselves. We were greeted pretty quickly and the drink menu was presented to us. However after that it took quite some time to get a dinner menu and we had to request it. The server did not write down our order which made me a little nervous because there was five of us and of course one of them was wrong. My mom's meal did not come out until we were completely done with everything else so we had to get it to go. Nothing was comped and the server didn't even offer to box it up for us normally that wouldn't have been a knock from me however with the messed up I hoped that maybe he would have. Bread did not come until the meal came and we all ordered salads so I was hoping to have bread with the salads to suffice my toddler until food came. We would've asked the server however we didn't see the server until our food came. The positives were that the food was incredible. We tried one of every salad, Cesar the spinach and the house. I was very impressed with them they were all very delicious and fresh the spinach was probably my favorite. The egg plant Parmesan was meaty and just lightly breaded with a marinara sauce that I could have lapped up. The lasagna Bolognese was probably the showstopper. Great portion and it held together nicely. Husband had the fried lasagna which I thought was outstanding but it was pretty cheesy almost like a fried mozzarella stick with some pasta. The vodka pasta was again outstanding. Happy hour drinks are a huge bargain and delicious. Location downtown is fun and it's nice to sit in the window and watch people walk by. I haven't been to Nonna's in over 10 years, and this isn't really a review so much as it is a desperate request for information. You see, back in the early 2000's when I lived in SGF, I used to frequent Nonna's almost solely because of their delicious chocolate cake. I am a chocolate cake addict, and theirs was the best. Ever. It was so good, I ordered a giant 3 tiered one from Nonna's Bakery around the corner for my wedding in 2004. It was spectacular. The cake was served at the restaurant as a three layer cake (I believe) with a chocolate buttercream frosting. It had a heavy, moist crumb, and was much lighter on the chocolate-y spectrum than the majority of chocolate cakes. In the intervening 10 years I have read and tried many, many chocolate cake recipes trying to find something comparable, but to no avail. I haven't even found anything close. I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that someone will read this review and message me with the recipe or even the current location of the baker who used to run the bakery on McDaniel's so that I can order a cake next time I visit family in the area. I literally have dreams about that cake. Please, someone have mercy on my chocolate-cake-loving soul and help me out? I'll love you forever. read more

Nonna's feels like the perfect Midwestern Italian dream team. The food gives you the traveling experience of flying all the way to Italy, but at a reasonable price. The live music transports you to a restaurant drop dead in the middle of Rome. Portion size is always a struggle when looking for a good place to eat, no one wants to be painfully full or left feeling as though they didn't get what they paid for, but Nonna's is neither of those things; the portion sizes could not be more perfect! The dessert choices leaves room for everyone to find something to top off their meal, leaving you just full enough. This place left me over the moon and makes me eager to dine here again. Excellent Italian, would definitely go back again! I ordered the seafood lasagna and it did not disappoint! It was excellent and I now prefer this to regular lasagna. There were ample amounts of seafood including mussels in shell, crab meat, shrimp, and scallops. The cream sauce is amazing and full of creamy and rich seafood flavor! There is more than enough to soak each bite of pasta in. You also receive French bread with olive oil and garlic as a starter which was also very good. I was in Springfield with a work colleague and we found Nonna's while checking out the downtown area. It was subsequently recommended by the concierge at our hotel (OK so our hotel wasn't high end enough to have a concierge but still, the woman at the front desk made a solid recommendation) so we decided to give it a try. Nonna's looks like it could work great as a date night, which was unfortunate since I was with someone from work. It had a great atmosphere, and even on a cold Tuesday night with less than half a dozen tables full, they had entertainment. For dinner I had the seafood crepes on the recommendation of our server and started with a house salad. My colleague had the crepes florentine. Both of us were very pleased with our choices. This place was incredible. Went in for a light lunch and was thoroughly satisfied. Ordered a Capresse Salad with a seared tuna steak. The Tuna steak was cooked just right, seared on the outside, warm but red in the middle. The Pesto and herbs that topped the sliced Tomatoes and fresh mozzarella was amazing. The fresh mozzarella was great but the tomatoes, although edible, weren't as fresh as I would have liked, albeit I have high standards when dealing with raw tomatoes (they have to be fresh from the garden roma's for me to love them). Not that it wasnt delicious, just that I would have liked roma's instead of the beefsteak tomatoes they used. The olive oil used to dip the bread in was good quality and fresh extra virgin olive oil. Lots of places that dont know what they are doing will try to pass off cheaper light olive oil, not Nonna's though. The Spumoni was a great end to the incredible meal. The service was very friendly and prompt. They met my every need and gave suggestions as to what they thought I would like. The verdict isnt quite in yet. I would still like to go in and try a full spread of theres. Cant say they are better than Bruno's, I'll have to try their meat sauce first (the gauge of any Italian joint). At this point, they are both on par with each other, and I highly recommend both. read more

We had two very nice & polite waiters, but the food was horrible They served us bread that was so cold it had to have just been removed from the refrigerator, I ordered chicken marsala and it was dry, very sweet yet very bland. The Alfredo pasta that they served with it was tasteless. For health reasons, my husband asked if there were potato skins in the mashed potatoes. Not only did the waiter say "no" but went on to tell the common story " I just had some last night...." There were in fact skin in the potatoes And to top it off, they did not have the baclava cheesecake that I wanted. I was told that they switch them monthly...well how about you mentioned that on your website? When I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waiter, he simply replied "oh, ok". As a severely lactose-intolerant person, I usually avoid Italian restaurants since there is just too much cheese, butter, and milk to involved in recipes. A promotion for PROMO brought me Nonna's. Having had bad experiences before, I nervously informed my server, Fran, about my diet. Without hesitation she walked me through the menu and informed me of what fit my diet and what could be substituted to fit my diet restrictions. She also remembered by dietary needs for appetizers and dessert as well. I have never been served so well and was very pleased! Service aside, the food was fantastic! I was blown away by the quality. I have gone to enough places to know that most don't put any effort into a simple spaghetti sauce. But at Nonna's, oh my gosh! Delicious! It's a cute little restaurant downtown and has very nice decor. While the mushroom ravioli here is not my favorite in town, it is still pretty good.
