Walking in feels as if you are 80s time traveling. The only descent thing on the menu are the mozzarella sticks. Pizza was less than average and over priced. This is the second time that I visited a restaurant based on Eat Like A Local's TV show and the food has been very bad, but I know food can be subjective but when 2 other family members feel the same way I guess I can't be wrong. read more

This restaurant has an awesome interior and atmosphere. The playlist is so fun and the layout just feels so nostalgic. It is walk in only, so no reservations but we only waited about 30 mins or so. The staff is super friendly and they do offer bar service while you wait. Now let's get into the food.... Mozzarella Sticks were ok, they were a bit too big for me but the cheese pull was top tier. Caesar salad was good, but there was a bit too much parsley mixed in. The wings were also good. Lastly, the pizza was good, served on a cracker thin crust so take that into consideration if you prefer something thicker. They do serve individual slices on focaccia bread. When we walked in it was a little more retro hipster casual than we anticipated based on other reviews and their website. The food and service was excellent. They have vintage Pizza Hut lampshades over a couple tables and old video games. We had a blast last night. My husband and I tried this place out after finding out it's the same owners as Nobies, which we love! Parking is somewhat limited in the actual lot but there's additional parking in the lot across the street. Walking into the restaurant feels like walking into a Pizza Hut from the 90s (but MUCH nicer). They even had some of the old lamps from Pizza Hut hanging by the bar area. It's a great dose of nostalgia, complete with some arcade games. It's definitely a curated and intentional vibe that I think they pulled off well. My husband and I arrived at around 7:30 on a Friday night and only waited about 15-20 minutes for a table. While we waited we got drinks at the bar. It took a while to get our drinks ordered bc the bartenders were incredibly busy--they would have probably benefitted from an extra set of hands. The drinks were amazing and strong once we did get them. Once we were at our table, we ordered the mozz sticks which came with a house sauce. Numerous waitstaff warned us that the sauce was super spicy but neither of us thought it had much heat at all. The sauce was pretty tasty, but the mozz sticks tasted a bit doughy. Would probably skip out on those next time The pizza is Chicago thin-crust style. My husband got the meat head and I did a DIY with broccoli, onions, and the house made giardiniera. Both pizzas were delicious, but slightly overpriced for pizza. We had plenty of leftovers and it reheated in the air fryer pretty well. Great first experience here. We got the amaretto sour and Negroni frozen cocktails both were very good, although they did unsettle my stomach for some odd reason. the crispy potatoes are a must get. We also got the meat lovers tavern style and a single slice of the grandma pie with broccoli. The tavern style was stellar dare I say the best thin crust I've had in Houston. Interesting interior/vibe/concept -- It's reminiscent of a 90s Pizza Parlor with many of the tables resembling family-sized booths and even a section devoted to pinball machines and a couple of arcade games. The music was also pretty retro. When we went, it was quite a wait for a table for two (approximately 40 minutes?) However, we had the chance to grab a drink at the bar as we waited. In my opinion, the pizzas have potential. They came our piping hot, and I definitely see what flavor profiles they are going for. However, I think the ultra thin crust of the pizza kind of hurts Nonno's in the Houston Pizza standings for me, because it is just not very interesting texturally (meaning the flavors of the pizza need to do a lot more work). And without the Hot Larry sauce, I didn't think the pizza flavors on its own really wow'ed me. We had the... - The Veggie Pizza under "Grandma's Pizza by the Slice" - which was pretty fantastic, very fluffy 'pan' pizza crust, and it was also very tasty. (Note for the veggie lovers, it's less veggies than you might expect) - Maui Wowee with Larry's Hot Sauce on the side - I really liked that they cut the spam and pineapple sliced very thin. I totally agree that the pineapple 'chunks' often served on Hawaiian style pizzas are just too much... so I think this was a wonderful twist. As I mentioned before, without the Hot Larry sauce which I ordered on the side, I think this pizza would have been less enjoyable. Super cool spot. As soon as you walk in you get hit with a wave of nostalgia for the og sit down pizza spots from back in the day. Sat at the bar and started off with some cocktails. The spiked eggnog was so damn good (didn't post a pic cuz it straight up looks like vomit). Ordered the crispy potatoes as an app and it was absolutely fire. The dip it comes with is elite. Ordered the wise guy pizza and it was delicious. I've had tavern style in Chicago and this was a really good approximation. Definitely want to try some pasta next time. We sat at the bar. The bartender was very good and helped us pick out a wine. We got a wiseguy and a pepperoni and cheese with a chopped salad. The salad was a standout. The mix of lettuce, meat, and cheese was perfect, and the vinaigrette was sharp, well seasoned, and it had just the right amount. I'd go back again just to get the salad. The Wiseguy was fun to try. It had sausage and giardinara. I'd get that again too. We always get a pepperoni and cheese because that's the best way to compare one place to another. It's not just pizza, but the pizza is damn good. I love a thin crispy crust, so if that's not your style this might not be the spot for you. We started with the Mozz sticks and crispy potatoes. Don't skip the potatoes-- the sauce they come with (deep inhale) is creamy garlic heaven. So good! We got the Meat Head pizza and it was plenty enough to share between three, full grown, hungry adults. This place is a little loud, so it may not be the best place to take grandma. But it has video games and a shuffleboard table, so if grandma is cool then maybe. We sat at the bar and it was great. I will be back for sure. Oh damn. I almost forgot. THE CHEESECAKE. I saw that in 2023, Esquire magazine named Nonno's as the recipient for best pizza joint. Since moving to Houston, finding good pizza has been more miss than hit and decided to give this place a shot. What really caught my eye was the fact that they had Chicago style thin crust, as a native Chicagoan I was sold. The place is cool as there is a mishmash retro feel from a mixture of 80's and 90's esthetics. The host was nice and its always good to be greeted by a cheerful person. I don't know if it was just the night I happen to be there, but the music was way too loud. I would get it if it was like a biker bar themed restaurant but it was difficult to have a conversation as you really had to focus. Server was good, she was really nice and very attentive so definitely points for the staff. No I didn't read the Esquire article, but based on the pizza alone I don't see how this could win top spot. There is way better pizza in Chicago all over the city, so my curiosity will need to find out what did Esquire judge. The pizza would be average at best compared to places in Chicago, the crust is really thin, the sausage didn't have the same kick, and the amount of cheese was minimal. If you're not from Chicago you may like it more than me, but for us transplants our search continues. read more

Another case of terrible hiring and management. Service and food was good until a staff member yelled, yes yelled, at my 5 year old to sit down in our booth. I was sitting right there next to him. I was shocked at his tone and took a moment to calibrate what just happened. I looked at the man and eyed him to come speak to me, I explained to him that in the future he needs to speak to the parent if their child is doing something requiring direction. He was extremely condescending and rude in his response, questioning why he should have to do that. I explained that he cannot discipline other people's children and to just let the parent know next time. He said an extremely passive aggressive "ok". I then asked him what his problem was and he said he didn't have one, I must. I then asked his name and role to which I was stunned to learn he is the general manager, Ronald. I asked other staff about him and learned that he "doesn't like kids". Well Ronald, this is a kid friendly restaurant, so might be time to find another gig. We are long time patrons of next door toasted coconut by the same owner who love on our kids and always go out of their way to create a great experience. Nonna's would be wise to axe Ronald and have the GM of Toasted Coconut hire his replacement. We won't be back to Nonnas until Ronald is gone and neither should anyone with kids. read more

I had the build your own pizza with Broccoli + Basil, and it was so cheesy and well seasoned that I had to ration my slices to keep from inhaling it. Our margaritas had enough tequila that Don Julio would be proud, the ladies restroom was clean which is a huge bonus, & the hostesses were super friendly. Absolutely amazing! 10 stars. As a St Louis transplant, I have been searching for a cracker thin crust pizza similar to imo's Pizza. Finally, after living in Houston for 15 years, I learned about Nonno's and decided to give them a try via Postmates (now owned by UberEats). O-M-G! The crispy thin crust, the assortment of cheeses, meats, and vegetables ---- amazing! I ordered a byo (build your own) cheese pizza and added pepperoni, sausage, soppressata, confit garlic, green olives, red onions, and extra raclette and mozzarella cheeses. The pizza was delivered quickly and the very large white box included a tamper resistant seal, which I really appreciated. Granted, Imo's Pizza in St. Louis uses provel cheese (a regional cheese comprised of cheddar, swiss, and provolone) which is not found outside of St. Louis/Illinois, so the cheese is much different, but NONNOS is truly in a class by themselves. I love the authentic Italian toppings and the pizza taste is fresh, hearty, and delicious! Like Imo's, the pizza was also pricey at $42, but fortunately I had two gift cards and a $20 postmates discount. I am in love and I will be a return customer!!! read more
