My favorite mid range casual restaurant in all of Houston. First of all it's such a fun atmosphere and interior design. The nostalgic vibe with the video games, the little arcade, the color palette and the vintage baseball cards that come with the check.... It's all so fun and well thought out. The food? Insanely delicious. Quality ingredients. You can tell the owner cares about the details and that includes the little things that make the flavors special. My husband loves Kenji Lopez who is a YouTube food reviewer and chef. He recommended Nonnos and I'm so glad he did. The best appetizer is the mozzarella sticks. They're the best I've had IN MY LIFE and i really like mozzarella sticks so i know what I'm talking about they have this truly unique and incredible flavor. The breading i suspect has a little Parmesan. It's delightfully crispy. It comes with a spicy marinara which i enjoyed, but you don't even need to dip for them to be delicious. I could really write a dissertation on how good these mozzarella sticks are. Recently tried the crispy garlic parm potatoes and they were also SO good. Flavorful as hell and a great thing to share. So filling so be careful The pizza crust is that delicious cracker style crust that requires being in the freezer overnight. The crunch is so nice. It's like a thin crust pizza but on steroids. I tend to stick with the a classic pepperoni pizza. They have those delicious little mini crispy pepperonis. You know a place makes good pizza if the most simple order is fantastic. 10/10 you need to go here. The parking can be difficult bc it gets filled up and you'll have to do street. Nonno would be disappointed!!! We went to Nonno's for my friend's birthday dinner, and unfortunately the entire experience was overshadowed by the manager, Andrea. I rarely leave negative reviews, but her behavior was so unprofessional that it truly needs to be addressed. Our group of 13 arrived simply wanting to celebrate, and right away we ran into issues that could have been handled with basic communication and kindness. We brought a few cupcakes, and were told there was a $3 per person fee to eat them -- surprising, but something we could have worked with. Then we were told we couldn't sit in a booth because it was "too close to the steps." We politely asked for clarification, and that's when Andrea came over. From the moment she approached our table, her tone was tense and dismissive. Instead of explaining the policies or trying to help us problem-solve, she made us feel like we were bothering her. Her only "solution" was to tell us we could sit outside or leave -- no apology, no attempt at hospitality. What made the whole situation even more confusing was that the arcade games are positioned right next to those same steps, in a cramped space where kids stand and play. It didn't feel consistent or logical. The food issues added to the frustration. We requested regular marinara instead of spicy, and were told the change was made -- but the pizza still came out extremely spicy. Only after asking again did our server mention they drizzle chili oil on top, something not listed on the menu. On top of that, they do not allow separate checks for large parties, only an even split for the whole group, and they add a 22% automatic gratuity. They did comp the spicy pizza, which we appreciated, but even that positive moment was overshadowed when Andrea returned to the table. She slammed the check down abruptly, said "who's taking care of this," and immediately stomped away. Not a thank you, not a quick explanation -- just more cold, dismissive energy. To be honest, the food itself was fine. The issue was the atmosphere created by management. Restaurants thrive on good customer service, and Andrea's approach made the night far more stressful than it needed to be. Her attitude set the tone, and unfortunately it wasn't a good one. I truly believe that with a different manager, our experience would have been completely different. Andrea may be overwhelmed or simply not suited for a customer-facing leadership role, but the way she handled every interaction was unprofessional and unnecessarily harsh. Our hostess Rosa was our favorite part of service, as she was personable and thorough with recommendations and specials. While bussing service was quick and efficient at keeping our table clean, we felt extremely rushed. We had 2 apps, a pizza and pasta. Food is absolutely amazing (we love nobies anyhow) and can't wait to eat here again. This place is super duper hyped. Standing in line to go get pizza seems absurd, and the children by the arcade games are a lot to deal with, but annoyances aside their food and drinks are pretty A+. Haven't had a bad pizza here, but none of them really stand out to me as the true winner, which is a good thing maybe. The baqurones here are awesome, definitely check the Caesar out if you're into that sort of thing. Finally, it's a pretty sweet spot visually inside. We went to dine at Nonno's tonight for the first time. The vibe and decor really tie in the old pizza joint feel. The booths are comfy and they have old school arcade games you can pay to play. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, wings, kids butter pasta, and I had a glass of red wine. The kids butter pasta was simple, but kind of expensive in my opinion for a small kids spaghetti noodle with butter ($16). Most places a kids meal is no more than $8 and that includes sides/drink. The pizza was good- it's a really crispy thin crust pizza. "Tavern style" as they call it. My husband said the wings were good but they weren't traditional hot wings. Arcade games were $1 a piece, and if you don't have cash/coins they'll let you put $10 on your card and give you a role of quarters. Again, I feel like that's a little expensive for pinball but on Mondays they said they have all day happy hour where games are free. Wine selection wasn't huge but was good. This was my second time coming here and both times were amazing. I came here on a Saturday night with 2 friends without a reservation. The parking by lot was full and there is street parking. We were told it would be a 20 min wait, but actually ended up waiting less than that. While we waited, we ordered drinks at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and the drinks were great! So happy I finally made it here!! By the same people who own Toasted Coconut next door, this place has a fun retro vibe. Service is great and the food is fun. Pizzas are tavern style. Mozz sticks were my fave, so crispy on the outside with excellent cheese pull. Wish there were more in an order hahah. Tried 2 of the pizzas and both were delish. Fungus among us was savory full of yummy mushroom flavor. The saag paneer one was surprising, very different but very good! Never had a pizza with those toppings before. Now this is where we may have not realized the pizza we were signing up for. This is not New York style at all, it is a thin crust Chicago style. First time here! Came around 10:30pm, and it just so happen to be during reverse happy hour ( Select Games are free, $1 off wine by the glass and half off wings - they closed at 12). What a fun little place! Husband and I decided to go there, and I knew they opened at 5 pm, so we arrived about 12 minutes early and were the second in line. By 5 pm, there were easily over 40 people waiting to get in, so I am glad we got here a little early! The decor is very 1970's/early 1980's Pizza Hut, they even have some old Pizza Hut pendant lights. It reminded me of your childhood going to Pizza Hut and the pizza was no different. An ultra thin crust, it literally took me back to my youth. It was fantastic and not as filling as other pizzas because of this! We ordered the pepperoni and added mushrooms (this is a $9 upcharge but I had no issue with this at all). For dessert we got the pumpkin cheesecake. Light and airy, it was so tasty but after 2 bites I was dunzo. I loved the crust, it was gingerbread if I am not mistaken. Given how busy this place was, they handled service very well! Nonno's is among the most puzzling Houston restaurant experiences I've had. The vibe is really confusing. On one hand, this feels like an inner loop Chuck E. Cheese with kids running around and a few arcade games. Unlike Chuck's, the games are limited, the food is expensive, there is an extensive cocktail menu, and they are open until midnight. To the good stuff -- the mozzarella sticks are out of this world. Easily the best sticks in Houston and paired with a spicy dipping sauce. On the flip side, the pizzas are pretty mid. The tomato sauce was really not great. If you want a great thin crust, I'd look elsewhere. Much of my Nonno's experience was just small things that added up to big disappointment. They don't take reservations. They don't offer diet soft drinks or iced tea. The music is extremely loud, requiring you to shout at your party. The "build your own pizza" menu, starting at $14, does not include cheese, so it really starts at $16. Servers seem to be assigned tables all over the restaurant so there are long stretches that you are ignored. All of these are relatively easy fixes that would make this a much more pleasant place to dine. Maybe Nonno's is trying to be a classy version of Chuck's? After all, "Family Pizza Tavern" is in their name, so I cannot fault the family crowd for dropping by. On the other hand, I'm not sure the Montrose cocktail crowd at the two-seat tables want to be serenaded by kids running loops around the restaurant. First, I'm from the inner city of Chicago. I grew up in the late 40's and 50's. During that time we never saw/ate what is called "Chicago Style Pizza, -thick crust. We had a thinner crispy crust. Nonno's is the closest I have been able to come to the taste and type of pizza I remember and enjoy. The sauce is also slightly but not overly tangy. I came here to eat for the first time a few days ago. We'd eaten at the nearby Toasted Coconut a few times and always saw this place doing a steady business. So we figured that the food had to be pretty good. We arrived at 5 on a Monday night and despite the place looking quite full, we got a seat quickly. A weird blend of table settings and Pizza Hut light fixtures that made me think that the owners had learned first about what a pizza place was while listening to NPR, but had yet to actually go to one. Monday is their all day happy hour and the arcade games sprinkled about the place are free. We weren't waiting long for our waiter and the service was speedy. Prices is this place's real Achilles heal. Despite it being happy hour, beer ran 7-8 bucks. This place is open late, which would make it a nice after the bar place to stop for a pie and couple more beers before heading home, if the prices for two beers wouldn't cost you almost as much as a pie. Pizzas ran around 20 for a pie, and they were on the smaller, thinner side. Wings were half off on Monday, but an order of 6 runs 13 dollars. It's hard to sell me out the gate that a wing with one flavor option is going to be so good it warrants a 2.25 price tag per wing. We ordered one custom pizza and one little green saag, and they were tasty. However, they did feel more like a flatbread than a pizza. Wings were also tasty. Good crisp outside and juicy inside. The house made ranch that came with the wings I will say was odd. It felt like a mashup of ranch and blue cheese with a disappointing result. If you don't like both ranch and blue cheese, you wont enjoy this. Additional cups of it will be a 1.50 up charge. While the overall food quality and service was good - It just felt like we paid a higher price for a smaller amount of food than we got at other pizza places. They must be cleaning up those tables and the turn around will be quicker is what I thought. Nope. There were constantly 4 empty tables at a time during our visit. This tells me they are under staffing their shifts. We waited 30 minutes. During that 30 minutes my obviously pregnant (8 months) wife was offered alcohol 3 times. Then we got seated, and had to wait another 15 minutes before our server came to the table. By this time we know what we want. Our server instead wouldn't cut short her speech about their specials and went into heavy, heavy detail about their alcohol. Now my wife is still obviously pregnant at this point. The atmosphere is leaning towards a club in a boomer mom's kitchen. The music and decor came out of the late 80s early 90s. It felt like sitting at the breakfast table at home when I was a kid except the music is so loud that you can't have a conversation without raising you voice to an uncomfortable level or invading other's personal space. There's a mini arcade, which is cool I guess. Then it's time to leave. We've been there for for about an hour and a half and want to go, but no there's another speech and a push about desserts. I loved the old school Pizza Hut chandeliers. We got the fungus pizza and it was burned on the edges but it was decent pizza. It had a mostly roasted onion flavor rather than mushroom. The Criss Angel sandwich was ok too. The beef was flavorful and tender but the vegetables on top were super tart, beyond pickled. There was so much of the vegetable mix on top that it made it hard to eat and over took the good beef and provolone cheese in the sandwich. I went for pasta but they don't sell pasta at lunch. I wish I had known this before we sat down. I left wishing I had ordered more of the mozzarella sticks. I went to Nonno's with a party of 4 on a Friday night and there were several good and not-so great aspects of the experience. 1. The wait was over an hour. I almost gave it 3 stars for this because that's a bit wild (to be exact it was 1:15 wait) but it was raining heavily that night so patios were closed and also I think this speaks to how good the food is. 2. If you're stuck waiting you can go to the tiki bar next door for a beverage. Fast service good cocktails. 3. The parking lot is small. There is valet, but the wait to get into the parking lot and leaving my car with a valet was another 10 mins in waiting. 4. The restaurant vibe is a mix between Indie retro diner and Pizza Hut. Music was a bit loud but overall it was nice, clean, and a good experience. 5. The food (pizzas) were really good. I did a byop and tried the broccoli pizza and both were fantastic. Would definitely come back for that. But one thing to be aware of is that you can't alter the dedicated pizza menu. So overall the experience was good. If the things cited above are a regular occurrence (wait, parking, etc) this restaurant is definitely 3 stars, but I'm giving this the benefit that it was a freak weather night and going with 4. Personally I wouldn't eat here again. They don't live up to their prices. Came here on a Sunday and the vibe was nice. It has a retro aesthetic pleasing to the eyes. Walking in feels as if you are 80s time traveling. Pizza was good but could use more flavor (seasoning) 7/10 Taylor street Rita was strong and I was tipsy off one drink!!! 9/10 Vanilla bean cheesecake for desert tastes like a regular cheesecake. The sauce on top didn't provide any additional flavor and a garnish would help sell it more as a vanilla. 5/10 read more
