We walked by and saw the restaurant so we stopped in. It was a large restaurant and you could see the food being prepared through the glass windows. I could see the guy making homemade noodles The ordering was simple and easy. We ordered the Special fried rice with chicken. It was really tasty, fresh and not greasy. The service was good, although we had to ask for more than one spoon, chopsticks and condiments.

Definitely a great add to the gaslamp scene! We got early dinner here before a show and such great food! The service was friendly and fast. There was alot of seating as well. They also have an open kitchen where you can see the workers made the noodles. I got the spicy beef noodle. You have different options of different type of noodles. (Hand pulled, Knife shaved, or wide noodles). I got the knife shaved noodles which were amazing. They had a nice chew and was a great vessel for the broth. The portion sizes were also generous. The beef was super tender as well. Highly recommend checking this place out if your in the area!

Stopped by for some quick lunch during the week and I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent amount of people eating here. We were seated immediately and got our food within 10 minutes of ordering. Inside is casual and you can see the workers in the back making the hand-pulled noodles. We started with the scallion pancake which came with 8 piece (4 pieces stacked on top) which was a really good deal. Flavorwise they were good but I wish texturally they were more crispy. The Shanghai juicy dumplings were really good and the meat was very flavorful. Lastly, the Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup was the star of the show. The beef was extremely tender and the hand-pulled noodles were nice and chewy. One thing that I also really appreciated were the reasonable prices. I don't venture to this area of downtown too often for food, but I can confidently say that Noodle & Bun is one of those awesome gems that might seem like a tourist trap due to it's location, but it's really good!

Spicy wontons and spicy beef brisket hand pulled noodles

We visited over the weekend. The space is quite large and was relatively empty, with just a few other tables seated. The service was efficient; our orders were taken right away, water was served, and the food came out quickly. We tried the spicy wontons after seeing reviews comparing them to Din Tai Fung's. Since those are a personal favorite, I was skeptical, but the flavor was surprisingly close. The sauce is slightly sweeter and not a 1:1, but it is delicious and offered at a great price point. We also ordered the spicy beef brisket noodle soup with hand-pulled noodles. It was a solid, filling meal with a flavorful broth and a generous amount of brisket. The only downside was that our bowl had a lot of the fattier cuts of meat. This is a great addition to the Gaslamp area for a warm, comforting meal, and we will definitely be back.

I feel like this is such a hidden gem, especially being so far from convoy! We came on a Wed night around 5 and it wasn't busy at all. They only have indoor seating but the space is pretty large. We got the Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup ($15.99) which comes with beef brisket, bok choy, green onions and cilantro. You have three different options for noodles and you can see them making it fresh in the kitchen. The flavor of the broth was soooo good. Very rich but not heavy. The meat was perfectly tender but still had some chew. Plenty of veggies as well. We'd definitely come back! Service was very fast and friendly.

There is constantly a line outside this place, and for a good reason! I got the beef noodle soup with tender pieces of beef and a delicious broth. Usually when I get beef noodle soup, the broth is too salty, but this broth had the perfect amount of salt and was even a bit on the sweet side! The table had a side of black vinegar and chili oil, and I would recommend dipping the beef into them! 10/10. The beers here are also extremely reasonable priced. They only have bottles, but it's only $5 per bottle.

Our first night in San Diego and my youngest son wanted asian food and he found this place during his search. We decided to give it a try and see how it is. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. The place was very well lit and there were tables set for 4 people but from the layout, they can combines tables for bigger groups. There was a lot of room/space inside the restaurant. There are soy sauce, vinegar, and chili already at the table. We wanted to try some of the different food on the menu so we did family style order and shared. We ordered the soup dumpling and the spicy wonton to start off. The soup dumpling was similar to other places and I used the chili oil from the wonton to give it a spicier flavor. The chili wonton was also good. The wonton was not hard and the wrap was thin which was the way I like them. We ordered the beef wrap as well. The beef was very thin and there were a lot of greens. It says that there were cucumber, cilantro, and green onion but the green tasted and looked more like chives. The veggie was so empowering that it took away the flavor from the beef and made it very difficult to finish. I would skip this dish or they need to really limit the greens to balance the flavor and texture. This place was known for their hand pulled noodles so of course we had to get that and opted for the bone broth. The hand noodle was delicious. It was made perfectly and was not very chewy. The bone broth was a little bland. Folks might complain about that but I sometimes prefer the broth not to be overpowering so I can adjust to my taste which was I did with this broth. I mixed of the some chili and soy sauce that was at the table and put it in the broth. After mixing the condiments in, the broth had the flavor to my liking. My kids wanted to get fried rice to go so they can have a late night snack at the hotel in case they got hungry later. They ordered the combination and asked for no veggies. They really liked the fried rice and I can see why. The fried rice was not hard and was not mushy either. It was cooked at a good texture and had enough flavor where the seafood flavor did not overpower the poultry or meat. It was also not that bland where you need to add soy sauce or chili to enhance the flavor. Overall, the place was ok but if you want pulled noodle or like fried rice, you can give it a try. I would skip the beef wrap. While we were there, we noticed a couple showed up and were seated but the server didn't come to get their order after they were seated for some time. This was consistent to what others in the Yelp reviews have mentioned. When the couple waved someone to take their order, they were given a complimentary cucumber appetizer dish. If you get seated and ready to order, I would recommend waving someone to take your order just in case so you don'r just sit and wait.

Noodle & Bun is located in the downtown Gaslamp district of San Diego. They have really good Chinese beef noodle soup and Shanghai juicy dumplings.Their noodle options include hand pulled noodles, knife-shaved noodles, and wide noodles, which you can see them make at the restaurant through a large window. We ordered the Beef Brisket Noodle Soup with hand pulled noodles and Shanghai Juicy Dumplings (xlbs). The fresh noodles had good texture and the beef and broth tasted really good. We really enjoyed the beef noodle soup. The xlbs were really good as well. You get eight pieces in an order for $11.99. They had all the right sauces to go with the soup dumplings. Service was friendly and the restaurant was clean and casual. Great place in downtown San Diego for Chinese beef noodle soup and Shanghai soup dumplings.

Service is great. So many options to choose from and nothing was disappointing. Dan Dan noodles, veggie buns, dumplings. Lots of tables and open space.

Post Padre Game and where to eat Noodle and Bun is the place. Talk about service, these folks are a well-oiled machine. We tried one of the ramen bowls and of course, buns. The buns were pillow-soft and delicious, the bowl piping hot. We can't wait till our next game

Very friendly staff and tasty food but wasn't a fan of the pork potstickers. They have a certain wrapping that just tasted odd. Also, one of our dishes there was a small mistake, no worries, but the staff actually gave us an extra side dish for free!

Scallion pancake
Brianne C.

We were in downtown and decided to grab lunch at Noodle & Bun. For a weekday lunch it was pretty busy. It's always cool to see noodles being handmade right there in the restaurant. The scallion pancake was a great appetizer, it wasn't too oily and had a nice crisp to it. Xiaolongbao were very full, so much soup. The dumplings had a good chew and they held together well for dipping. The beef noodle soup was delightful! The beef was tender, noodles were chewy, broth had a lot of flavor. It wasn't really spicy, but you can add more chili oil if you'd like. Good portions, good service. It's a great spot for when you're in that area.

Lanzhou beef noodle soup.
Brian W.

Don't let the rating fool you - while the food is nothing special, they're right in downtown San Diego and one of the few Chinese places around, if you come, you'll find a solid meal. The Lanzhou beef noodle soup, even with hand cut noodles, are legit but also definitely not going to amaze you, if that makes any sense. Chow mein dishes were ordinary. Cold cucumber appetizer is better. Service is pretty good tho. So in context, it's solid enough. In the broader picture, I find it more average. I'm not sure where I should place the rating as a result.

I also noticed other tables getting plates and bowls which we had to ask for. Overall, I felt the servers weren't too friendly either and seemed to rush through our table despite them standing around not seeming too busy. The food was excellent though! TL;DR It's really good. Go here…read more -------------- I came here after a friend recommended it when I told them I was coming down to San Diego for a day trip during my spring break from school in Orange County. I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me

To add insult to injury it was BURNED so badly that all you could smell was burnt dough and taste burned dough. Hardly any sauce on it as well. The Shrimp Fried Rice should have just been plain white rice for how bland it was. The Vegetable Chow Mein literally was just a container of salt. Slim noodles and salt, disgusting!
