We visited Noodle & Bun during Comic Con weekend. The line was long, but they were quick to seat people once a table was available. The restaurant was spacious, and they also had outdoor seating. I ordered Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. It was delicious. The brisket was tender. The noodles were freshly made and chewy. And the broth was packed with tons of flavor; it was very filling. It wasn't really spicy, so I just added more chili for more kick. My group also enjoyed the dumplings, fried rice, and edamame. The reason for the 4 stars was because of the service. We noticed that no one came to our table until we called for a server and told them we were ready to order. The groups seated after us got to place their orders before we did. Came here for lunch during comic con weekend. We are rarely ever in the DT area but for comic con we make an exception. So glad to find Asian food walking distance as our little one is a picky eater. It took us a while to get seated as the comic con crowds were in full swing. They didn't have any kind of sign up sheet to put your name down so we had to keep track of which place we were in line based on when we got there. There was seating available inside and outside of the restaurant. Food was delicious and came out fairly quickly. After eating Mexican food for days, we needed a change up. Both soups were delicious. The broth of the first one is a little less dense while the second one, is more deep/flavorful. Our first night in San Diego and my youngest son wanted asian food and he found this place during his search. We decided to give it a try and see how it is. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. The place was very well lit and there were tables set for 4 people but from the layout, they can combines tables for bigger groups. There was a lot of room/space inside the restaurant. There are soy sauce, vinegar, and chili already at the table. We wanted to try some of the different food on the menu so we did family style order and shared. We ordered the soup dumpling and the spicy wonton to start off. The soup dumpling was similar to other places and I used the chili oil from the wonton to give it a spicier flavor. The chili wonton was also good. The wonton was not hard and the wrap was thin which was the way I like them. We ordered the beef wrap as well. The beef was very thin and there were a lot of greens. It says that there were cucumber, cilantro, and green onion but the green tasted and looked more like chives. The veggie was so empowering that it took away the flavor from the beef and made it very difficult to finish. I would skip this dish or they need to really limit the greens to balance the flavor and texture. This place was known for their hand pulled noodles so of course we had to get that and opted for the bone broth. The hand noodle was delicious. It was made perfectly and was not very chewy. The bone broth was a little bland. Folks might complain about that but I sometimes prefer the broth not to be overpowering so I can adjust to my taste which was I did with this broth. I mixed of the some chili and soy sauce that was at the table and put it in the broth. After mixing the condiments in, the broth had the flavor to my liking. My kids wanted to get fried rice to go so they can have a late night snack at the hotel in case they got hungry later. They ordered the combination and asked for no veggies. They really liked the fried rice and I can see why. The fried rice was not hard and was not mushy either. It was cooked at a good texture and had enough flavor where the seafood flavor did not overpower the poultry or meat. It was also not that bland where you need to add soy sauce or chili to enhance the flavor. Overall, the place was ok but if you want pulled noodle or like fried rice, you can give it a try. I would skip the beef wrap. While we were there, we noticed a couple showed up and were seated but the server didn't come to get their order after they were seated for some time. This was consistent to what others in the Yelp reviews have mentioned. When the couple waved someone to take their order, they were given a complimentary cucumber appetizer dish. This place is a hidden gem. For those trying to get a reservation at Din Tai Fung, save the stress and come here. I have been to Din Tai Fung and it was great, but Noodle and Bun put more into their dumplings. The seasoning is on point the spicy dumpling oil is far better than Din Tai Fung. I saved the oil and put it over the noodles and it made them even better. The noodles are homemade and not your typical run of the mill chinese noodle. I actually had to add about half a jar of the chili sauce from the table just to try and get some heat and flavor into the broth. My partner had the Veggie Chow Mein and ran into the same issue, needing to add a lot of soy sauce and chili oil just to give it some taste. We also shared the Veggie Spring Rolls, which were cooked nicely--light golden brown and very crispy--but again, they just lacked much flavor. I know I might be the outlier with my review, and maybe we just caught the kitchen on an off day. Like I said, the ingredients are fresh, but the dishes just needed a lot of help. A quick heads-up about the location: I'd strongly recommend eating inside rather than sitting at their outdoor tables. It's not that the entire Gaslamp area has this issue, but just where they are located on the street, there is a large homeless presence nearby and, unfortunately, a pretty strong smell of urine. Noodle & Bun on 4th ave offers Noodle soups and cooked to order dishes. On a busy friday night, my party and I were seated promptly with minimal wait. I enjoy the fact the the menu is simple and straight forward with there most popular dishes being the first 3 soups on their menu. All the noodles are fresh and you can have them cooked in a variety of ways. I opted for the beef brisket soup and it was delicious with chunks of brisket, soft and chewy to tasty complemented with a salty soup broth. The noodles a ramen style was fresh and added a nice cushion along with the brisket. I also ordered the Fried Rice combination with a variety of meats and it was ok but I have had better at other places. The pork buns were ok with a small pork patty in the middle. Just ok and I probably wouldn't order it again. What I love about this place is that service is quick, the menu is simple and the food was good. It is nice to see an asian food option in the gaslamp that provides quick service and tasty food at an affordable price.
