Beef Noodle Soup and Beef Roll
    Jody H.

Great food! We ordered the beef noodle soup and the portion was pretty big. Not too spicy. The beef was tender and the broth was flavorful. We also ordered the beef rolls and those were good as well. A bit different from the other beef rolls i've had. It was more saucy than usual. Food came out super hot/fresh. Def recommend it!

Super cute spot for some food that hits the soul. The aesthetic is giving sushi spot and it's cute. As for the food, I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup and thought it was sooo good. There's a choice between straight thin noodles and wavy softer thick ones and I went with the larger ones- would recommend that one! My dish was a 9/10. My boyfriend got the pork over rice and thought it was good but slightly on the saltier side- his rating was a 8/10. We also got the scallion pancakes which were ok! They were pretty dense and I don't think I'd necessarily get that again. The servers were super nice, Kalee and Nina. They were attentive when taking our order and when we needed a refill on water they came immediately without us asking. Their mango jasmine tea is also really good. Would overall recommend this place!

Everyone knows parking in convoy is terrible especially on a Friday night. The parking lot in this shopping center in also terrible. But that's all I'll say for parking 1/5 When we arrived there was just a short wait, roughly about 10minutes but it was fine because it gave us time to go through the menu. We got bar seating which was a nice vibe and plenty of table space to eat. Great lighting and also great customer service. The staff was friendly and very helpful, always making sure we were ok. I got the Taiwanese beef noodle soup which was so good. There are two options for noodles, Wavy noodles or classic straight noodles. I picked Wavy noodles and it worked out well and was delicious. The portion size is huge, I couldn't finish it so I packed it to go. The beef was torched to give it a Smokey taste. We also got the Popcorn chicken and that was also a huge portion! It was soooo good! 5/5 Also got two drinks lychee and pomelo 5/5 Overall experience 5/5 I'm going to come back forsure!

Excellent food. Not many seating with only one table so not quite little kid friendly, so the wait was longer than expected. Once inside, the wait time for the food to come out was not that long however, and the food did not disappoint. We ordered the popcorn chicken with the spice on the side, and the beef roll. Both were really great quality with the right amount of crispiness, maybe the best I've had. Kids also loved it. Ordered the mazesoba, with good level of creaminess and taste, with kids enjoying it as well. Well worth the wait.

Came to formoosa with a couple of friends. I know a terrible parking experience is expected in Convoy, but formoosa is on a whole other level. The parking lot layout is odd, small, and tight, with heavy foot traffic, so expect to struggle during peak hours. formoosa itself is a pretty solid spot. The inside looks very clean and modern, and the decor makes the place feel very bright and inviting. It was not crowded at all when we arrived around 5 PM on a Tuesday. There are QR codes on the table that you can scan to view the menu on your phone. FOOD: My friends and I had mixed reviews about the food. One friend got the pork over rice and said the pork oddly tasted more like beans than meat. My other friend got the sesame noodles and enjoyed them. Taiwanese Mazesoba (3.75/5) - Tasted good and had a nice snappy texture. The flavor itself felt pretty one-dimensional and was on the salty side, even after a good mix. It felt like it was missing an element of something I couldn't quite pinpoint. I'm not mad about it, though. Scallion Pancakes (4/5) - Crispy and flaky. Came with a dipping sauce made of what I think was vinegar, chili oil, and a kind of soy sauce. SERVICE: The service was great and attentive. Waters were kept filled, and they checked up on us often. Food came out pretty fast after ordering, too. TLDR// Solid spot in Convoy, but I'm not sure if the food here totally justifies the parking lot turmoil. Wouldn't be mad at returning.

We ordered the Taiwanese Beef Roll, Chili Wontons, and Sesame Noodles. The beef roll was the standout by far - 1000% would order again. Super flavorful, great texture, and honestly the highlight of the meal. The chili wontons weren't spicy whatsoever and were just okay for me, and the sesame noodles were decent but didn't stand out compared to the beef roll. Service was friendly and efficient, and James and Aiden were holding down the fort and doing a good job keeping everything running smoothly. The vibe is casual but still lively enough for a fun lunch spot. They have bar seating and also serve alcoholic drinks. I'd come back again specifically for the beef rolls and to try a few other items on the menu, like the popcorn chicken and spicy beef noodle soup.

My friends and I decided to try this spot since it had over 5k reviews but it ended up being really mid. Apparently they give you a free drink if you write a review on yelp or google so I can see how the reviews here may be skewed. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small. They have bar seating in a semi rectangle and a few small tables on the sides. The parking lot is pretty small and gets crowded easily so I would recommend carpooling. What we ordered: - Formoosa summer cocktail: This tasted like juice, very light and sweet, which I liked. It felt like a perfect summer cocktail. - Pork over rice: This dish was very salty and there weren't enough cucumbers in the dish itself to help cut the saltiness. It was hard to eat because I had the urge to drink water after every bite. - Taiwanese beef noodle soup: I didn't try this but my friend said it was mid. It does come in a huge bowl so would be good for sharing. - Pickled cucumber: Only a few pieces (mainly the brown ones) tasted pickled; the rest just tasted like regular cucumbers. - Scallion pancake: The outside was crispy but not flaky and the inside was a lot more doughy than I expected. Wish they had a better dip; it was just straight up chili oil. I'd say it was not bad but not good. - Chili wontons: I always compare every chili wonton with Din tai fung and this one was nowhere near as good as that. The wontons are pretty big and I didn't like how thick the dough was. I'd say you could skip this dish.

Parking 3/5 -Big plaza parking lot but this is a super busy plaza with a lot of restaurants so most of the time you'll have to find parking somewhere else. Service 5/5 -Friendly staff and water was served as soon as we sat down, attentive overall. Food 5/5 -Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup $20.5, SO GOOD, wow the beef was so tender and soup was so flavorful and soothing! I liked the straight noodles more than wavy noodles because it felt denser, bouncier and just more similar to the ones I've had in Taipei. Loved the soft boiled egg and just overall PORTION SIZE, the big bowl of noodles is exactly what I look for every time I want noodles. Never change this please. They also torch it lightly before serving to give a smokey taste, I think it's a nice touch of detail. -Popcorn chicken $14.5, crispy and fragrant, very yummy no notes. -Lychee 101 $11.5 and Poomelo $11.5, both drinks were delicious!! The blend of jasmine tea and soju works sooo well, I would order again for sure! Ambiance 5/5 -Bar center with seats all around with a couple tables on the outer perimeter inside, tasteful modern interior. It feels very calm, lowkey and comfortable.

I was craving for some good Taiwanese food and stumbled upon this spot on Yelp. It caught my eye because they had some happy hour deals going on even on a Friday afternoon! Their weekday happy hour is from Mon-Friday from 2-5pm. There were select appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu that I really wanted to try, so we headed on over. The parking lot is kinda small and shared with multiple establishments. We went on an off hour but even then, there were only a couple spots left. Here is what we tried: -Beef Roll ($13 - HH pricing / $16 - reg. price) -Beef Noodle Soup ($20.50) -Taiwanese Mazesoba ($18.50)* -Popcorn Chicken ($11.50 - HH pricing / $14.50 - reg. price)* -Pickled Cucumbers ($6.50) -Chili Wontons ($13 - HH pricing / $16.50 - reg. price) -Pomelo cocktail ($7 - HH pricing / $11.50 - reg. price) *denotes favorite item(s) The mazesoba definitely caught my eye. I love a good mazemen so I figured it was a similar dry noodle concept but with Taiwanese flavors and different noodle type. It was actually pretty good and even though I'm a die hard Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup girl, I found myself eating more of the mazesoba. This is perfect for those that aren't craving something soupy but want some flavorful noodles. I really liked that they added generous amounts of fried basil with the popcorn chicken...that's how they do it in Taiwan to make the snack more fragrant. I'm always sad when there is little to none fried basil with my popcorn chicken..portions were also very generous, no change in portion size just because it is happy hour. Overall, love the weekday happy hour deals and the generous portions. Pricing is average, but definitely take advantage of the weekday happy hour if you can. Food is comforting and yummy but other than the Mazesoba that really wowed me, everything was decent! I would come back if I'm in the area and I'm craving Taiwanese food.

When I used to live in San Diego a long time ago, there were very few Taiwanese options, so I was excited to visit and see how much the variety in Convoy has expanded! I came for an early lunch with 2 friends and sat at the countertop seating since the tables were already taken. It's a small space, so I would recommend coming with no more than 4 people in your group. We ordered two entrees and one starter to share after seeing the size of the bowls, which was the right move for the three of us not-super-hungry girls. I liked that they don't add cilantro to any of these dishes either! - Beef noodle soup: this was our favorite dish! The beef was so flavorful and tender, and the noodles had a good chew to them. For such a big bowl, there could've been a bit more bok choy, but it was cool to see them searing the meat as a final touch before serving. - Pork over rice: this was really salty and I wouldn't order it again. The cucumbers helped balance the flavors out, but it was a huge bowl and not a lot of cucumbers. I like shiitake mushrooms, but the chunks are pretty big in the minced pork, so I'd avoid ordering this if you don't like them. - Beef roll: this was HUGE. I've never seen such a thick beef roll in my life. The beef was flavorful, and I liked the sauce, but it was overall too wet, so the scallion pancake exterior wasn't crispy anymore. One friend also complained there were too many cucumbers LOL. Service was attentive, especially in such a small space. The price was reasonable for the portion sizes of the items we ordered, but we did decide against the popcorn chicken bc it seemed expensive (maybe the portion is bigger than the picture on the menu though). Parking in this lot is still horrendous - nice to see that some things don't change. Overall, the food was just okay to me, and while the beef noodle soup was the best thing we had, it didn't wow me either.

Fantastic!! There isn't much on the menu but what is there is all that needs to be! The beef noodle sooo was SPECTACULAR. A unique flavor to me. Very savory with noodles that were absolutely perfection. The inside of the restaurant is tight but you come for the food! The service from khang and quan was wonderful. They were friendly warm and welcoming. Can't imagine a little noodle shop being better.

I saw the good reviews for this place and I'm happy to say the hype lived up! We came in for happy hour and I was really happy to see that popular items were on the happy hour menu, I feel like sometimes restaurants just put lame options as happy hour but this felt really satisfying because it was stuff we were going to the restaurant to eat anyways. My favorite was definitely the beef roll. It was delicious. Tender meat. I love how the cucumbers were flavored. Everything worked together really well. James was our waiter and he was fantastic at managing everything. I am a very particular eater and like to get lots of my sauces on the side and he was so thorough and knowledgeable and I appreciated how cool he kept it every time I asked for something else to be on the side. It was cute inside. Most seating is around a bar-like high table area but the neon cow was kinda an adorable decoration that can be seen from pretty much everywhere, it was nice and cute for pictures. If you're thinking of coming here I would definitely recommend during the day and not with a large party. It's small inside and a small parking lot as well. On a weekend or for dinner I could see it being crazier because this area has lots and lots of people come through during popular times.

    Is this place kids friendly?

No. Only eight table top seats, two tables that seat 2, and one table that seats 4. All the rest of the chairs are seats at the bar.

Are the sesame balls vegan? Any vegan options?

based on my experience, sesame balls are made out of red bean or yellow bean paste covered in sticky rice dough coated with sesame and deep fried. better to look at the inderigent lists if they are vegan pr not as there are different vegan…

Came here 1 day at 9:10 and another at 9:40 when Yelp says they close at 10:30 but both times I was told by the worker they were closed?

How do I make a dinner reservation? I've called multiple times and no one has picked up.

We've been and it was only walk up. Some say you can make reservations but I see no evidence of that beyond calling the restaurant.

What's their house broth made of? Is it pork, beef, or something different?

    Should be beef broth.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes :) we made reservations when we went,

    Any gluten free options?

I went with someone gluten-free as a walk-in and they said no gluten free options so we left and went to a different restaurant in the same shopping center

Does Formoosa sell boba? I was here this afternoon, but the staff told me they did not sell boba. That's strange.

They sell milk tea and it's pretty good.

I couldn't quite read the name tag. She was excellent, thank you! The vegetarian (vegan if you get it with sweet chili sauce instead of aioli) popcorn chicken was super flavorful and crispy. Definitely a shareable portion between 2 people as a hefty snack, and 3-4 people if you just want a small bite. The taro sweet milk tea was unlike any other taro drink I've had before, because there seemed to be actual mashed taro in the bottom of the drink. It was presented beautifully layered, and it kind of tasted like strawberry milk to me. Fun to try, and looking forward to trying other drinks next time! My group tried an assortment of items today, family-style. 4/5 Mapo Tofu Tots: This was pretty unique, a fusion of two worlds - eastern (mapo tofu) and western (tots and cheese). I personally did not care for the cheese, but the mapo tofu was quite tasty, a mild flavor not yet reaching a spicy level where I'd guzzle water. Others in my group favored this item amongst the 3 we tried, while I thought it was okay. 4.5/5 Scallion pancake with popcorn chicken, egg, and cheese. The scallion pancake was light, flaky, and layered, pretty authentic in flavor. It's probably my own bias, but I was also not a fan of the cheese in this dish, though it had a melty consistency others might like. They provided an umami sweet sauce to add. 4/5 Pineapple bun with popcorn chicken. This was a unique take on how one could combine snackable Chinese/Taiwanese food. The Pineapple Bun was somewhat sweet and buttery, tasty on its own, but raised question marks for me. It was an unexpected combo with the savory popcorn chicken. The chicken was crispy and we ordered it mild. 5/5 Strawberry Basil Lemonade: This drink was on the sweeter side at 100%, but very refreshing and not tart. I'd order it again. The strawberry flavors were somewhat strong in this one. 5/5 Guava Jinxuan Oolong Tea: I was a fan of Jinxuan oolong while touring Taiwan, so I was excited to see this authentic strain of tea on the menu. When unmixed, the guava syrup/purée was a bit sweet, but I did enjoy this drink. I didn't taste the unique milky oolong flavors though. The slightly bitter tea notes came out at the end, though I'd also reorder this. Bopomofo was an adventure for my and my group's taste buds, I would probably come back to try other drinks and dishes.

It's in a plaza with a ton of other restaurants, so just know parking can be a little chaotic. I went on a Wednesday around 5:30PM and still found parking pretty easily, but I can see it getting rough later. The place itself is on the smaller side, but they fit a good amount of seating. Every time I pass by it never looks super packed and even this time it wasn't that busy. I ordered ahead through their website, which was smooth, but when I walked in the cashier didn't see my order at first. I showed her my confirmation text, she checked with the kitchen and let me know it was still being prepared. She was super kind about it, so no issue there. I sat and waited and it ended up being around 20 minutes, which felt a little long for just two items, but not terrible. There was also a moment where a group came in and no one was at the front, so they asked me how ordering worked. We both just assumed you scan the QR code at the table and order from there, which probably explains why there isn't always someone upfront. A little confusing at first, but it is what it is. Once my food was ready, it was packaged really nicely. I had about a 25 minute drive home and everything stayed warm, which is honestly the best part about good takeout. Popcorn Chicken ($9.50) This might be the best popcorn chicken I've had in San Diego, especially for the price. You get big pieces, like actual chicken, not just fried coating. The seasoning is kind of addicting, a little sweet, a little salty, savory, with a slight kick. Super fragrant too with green onions mixed in. The sauce tasted like a cilantro jalapeño crema, almost taco vibes, which sounds random but it worked really well. And the shredded cabbage at the bottom soaking up all that extra seasoning... so good. Only thing is I wish some pieces were a little crispier and more golden, but still really really solid. Spicy Shrimp Wontons (8 pcs, $10.80) These come in a soy, vinegar, chili oil sauce that's super balanced. The wontons themselves are a bit smaller and don't have a ton of filling, so price-wise it's a little eh. But the sauce carries. After sitting in it during my drive home, I thought it would be too salty, but it actually soaked in perfectly. The color got darker and richer and the flavor still stayed balanced. Overall, this place is honestly solid. The menu isn't huge, more focused on noodles, dumplings, and apps, but based on what I had, they do it well. I'll definitely be back to try more, but that popcorn chicken alone is already enough reason to come back.
