It is sad to see how far Noodlebox has gone downhill. I understand pandemic and all, but this particular branch is just poorly cared for. it is June and there are still Christmas decorations up, the floors, tables and counters are dirty, and the washrooms are just awful. I had the Cambodian Jungle Curry and it was good. My problem is that I had the same bowl a few years ago and let's just say... 'shrinkflation' has taken hold of Noodle Box. There was BARELY any chicken in my bowl and when I complained, I was told 3 ounces is standard. I'm not sure if folks know how much chicken 3 ounces is... but it's minimal. Conveniently located at Uptown Mall making it accessible by personal & public transportation; this makes for an excellent dine-in or take-out for noodle lovers. Everytime I come to Victoria (although there are Noodlebox is Vancouver that I rarely go to) I make a stop here. Why? Like I mentioned it convenient to get to; the food is fresh and only cooked over a fire once ordered (no heat lamps). They will also allow you to swap noodles if you'd prefer a different noodle than what is in the description of the specific dish. The restaurant is always clean with music that is not too loud or too quiet. They even serve some adult drinks (beer). The only reason they are losing a star is because I believe they've toned it down on the level of "hot" and the amount of protein in each serving. Hubby introduced me to Noodlebox when I first moved to Victoria in 2009. It was love at first bite - complete with blood and tears. I may have tasted their hottest spice and it may have made me cry. Ordered online at 4:10 for pick up at 5:30. Arrived at 5:25 and got to the counter at 5:28. Told our order would be 5 minutes. Still nothing by 5:55 although the Skip the Dishes people were in and out without a wait. Back in the line and got to ask about our order and was told they were working on it right now. More Skip the Dishes people. Finally got our order at 6:10. Would have been quicker to order from Skip the Dishes and have it delivered to us in the parking lot. read more

Ordered the kids noodle box with additional meat (beef). There was barely any meat exactly 4 pieces that were around the size of a quarter. I ordered to go and the box was only 3/4 full. The noodles were drenched in sauce, and it was overly salty. I would advise any customer to eat these noodles with a glass of water; I had to take a sip of water with each bite due to the excessive salt. The downtown location is much better and I would advise eating there instead. read more

Went with the lady, she ordered some pretty hot stuff as she loves spicy and I ordered mild. Mine was stupid hot and inedible, hers wasn't spicy at all. Waste of $15+ per dish. A few mins earlier, I'd seen the cashier take 2 items off the line and put them to the side without calling anyone's names. I've been here 5 times and can confidently give it a mediocre 2 stars. Consistent in my experience every time: - At least a 20 minute wait and sometimes 30 for takeout. Even for non peak hours, the wait is brutal. - Request for non-spicy always results in very spicy. I wonder if they even clean their woks after every dish or if it's just permanently lined with pepper? - Severe lack of taste in every dish I've tried. Especially the fried rice which simply tastes like rice and a lot of pepper. The "Asian inspired" dishes they have on the menu should be bold in flavour but fall very flat. Maybe they should revisit their recipes but I guess authentic is not what they are going for anyways. I will not be returning to this place. read more

I'm not too sure exactly what happened to this location. when they first opened it was good! the food was good, the atmosphere was good and staff was friendly. two of those three are still true but one of the most important things are missing since about after 3 months of its coming to uptown. the quality of the food has gone down juristically which is sad because I used to frequent. fortunately, every other noodle box on the island it good so it makes up for the Uptown Locations Shortcomings. that being said if you are at uptown and want a bite and don't mind the above issues I've had. I would recommend the Spicy Peanut it is my fave and as far as I know it has become the most popular choice at almost all the locations. read more

I used to really love eating at the noodle box but the last few times at this location in particular, I have been let down. Dishes lack sauce and flavour for the $$$ you pay. First off, it took almost 40 minutes. The girl taking my order let me know that it might take that long so I was ok waiting as I was anticipating that I would have a really yummy dish to chow down on. Unfortunately, I was VERY disappointed. I ordered 'pad thai' to go with extra add ons (i was wanting a combo of prawns, chicken, tofu) that I paid extra for turning a $13.00 dish into over a $20.00 dish. When I went to pick it up, my food was on a plate under the heat warmer and they forgot it was to go. No big deal, they packed it to go. but when I got to my hotel, The noodles were dry, not one prawn to be found, and flavour wise, it was not pad thai in the least. :( When I called to let them know I was disappointed, she wanted to argue with me saying i ordered extra chicken instead of prawns. I didn't have time to wait another 40 minutes for the right order so I told them that I would eat the cost and that I wouldn't return there again. So sorry!! read more

The first time I went to Noodle box in Langford I was pleased with the atmosphere, the concept, the food and the service. I now have been 3 times in a month at Uptown location and every time I was disappointed.  My friend's dish (Singapore cashew curry) was spicy but tasteless, she had to add a lot of lime juice and soy sauce to jazz it up. I ordered the veggie gyoza and got the meat ones. The tom yom soup used to be HUGE and tasty. Forget it.  Finally, the stupid LOUD reggae music is always blasting amidst the CONSTANT, overly exaggerated and useless clanking of the woks and pans. It makes you wonder if they don't do it on purpose to annoy people.  The good news is that I won't be missing noodle box when I leave Victoria! read more

Ordered a spicy pad Thai box WITH chicken, order took 20 minutes to make. When I took it home and opened it, there wasn't any chicken in the whole box. This is a the second time it's happened. We eat here often because it's one of very few places around that are Celiac safe and gluten free for my daughter which we very much appreciate! This place is really the only "fast food" I ever get. It's generally tasty, you can get extra veggies, and they have a decent variety. Asian inspired fusion type - starch (rice, noodles), meat and veg with a sauce formula. I really wish they would stop pulling my favourites off the menu with each update though! Red curry anyone?? And bring back the coconut curry noodles... My main complaint is that the quality and spice levels are extremely variable. I usually get medium spice because I like a bit of kick and I've had it everywhere from nothing at all to knock-the-roof-off-my-mouth-off hot depending on the day. If I try to compensate by upping or downgrading the spice next time, it always backfires. I got the ginger beef today, which I've had before, and usually it's tasty and the beef is crunchy and crisp, but today the beef was stodgy and slimey and flavourless, no ginger, no spice at all, (ordered medium) just a sickly sweet sauce with no flavour. Won't be getting that again. Anyways, usually it's alright and pretty tasty. Just bad luck today I guess. read more

Used to be that Noodlebox was a great place. No longer, for $13.50 I had a Phad Thai with 5 pieces of pre-cooked chicken, bagged coleslaw and rice noodles and sauce - oh and let's not forget the peanuts and bean sprouts. It was awful and they will never see my custom again. My niece, her birthday had the ginger beef, 5 pieces on 2 cups of jasmine rice and oh yes, bean sprouts! The restaurant Red Fish Blue Fish had an outrageous line and we were hungry. My dad suggested this place because of a co-worker's recommendation. We walked in and was greeted with a friendly asian guy behind a counter and ordered. Food arrived quickly. I loved my food. I ordered the chow mein noodles. It was delicious- or so I THOUGHT. Fast forward to about 4:30 pm back in our hotel room... I'm feeling VERY nauseous and I don't have a weak stomach so my parents were very concerned. I'll spare you all the details. The new cooks are doing OK. Service was fast and friendly. As for wheelchair access, the washrooms were OK and there are smaller table at the back past the booths that are easy enough to reach. I liked this place and see it as a healthier alternative to the regular fast-food fare. read more
