Conveniently located at Uptown Mall making it accessible by personal & public transportation; this makes for an excellent dine-in or take-out for noodle lovers. Everytime I come to Victoria (although there are Noodlebox is Vancouver that I rarely go to) I make a stop here. Why? Like I mentioned it convenient to get to; the food is fresh and only cooked over a fire once ordered (no heat lamps). They will also allow you to swap noodles if you'd prefer a different noodle than what is in the description of the specific dish. The restaurant is always clean with music that is not too loud or too quiet. They even serve some adult drinks (beer). The only reason they are losing a star is because I believe they've toned it down on the level of "hot" and the amount of protein in each serving. Makes me wonder why I'm still paying about $15/dish

Very slow, my order took 30 minutes to come out. But the food is good, although the serving portion is small.

Hit and miss, they're a busy spot so that probably factors in. When they get it right it's great

Got my order in a good time but both times ordering I have been finding they are pretty light on the toppings and protein.

Unlike Vietnamese bun which is thin like vermicelli, these were quite a bit thicker, almost like a round fettuccine. As appetizers, we had the duck egg rolls. We managed to eat them before taking a picture.... they were finally ground duck in egg roll wrappers. We also had the sliced pork belly with garlic sauce. I remembered to take a picture before it was completely gone! It was one of the most amazing things I've had. It's cooked and thinly sliced pork served cold, with crisp and refreshing julienne carrots and cucumber. It's served with a thin dressing that includes fresh garlic. The whole thing is cool, sharp, refreshing, and satisfying. Finally, I had the noodles. I borrowed somebody else's picture, because I forgot to take it before I dumped the toppings in. It comes with two or three different kinds of pickles, toasted soybeans, and green onions. The idea is to stir those into the noodles and eat them first, like a cool noodle salad. Then... you dump the broth on top and enjoy them like a Ramen or a noodle soup. It was absolutely amazing. As a Texan, I'm no stranger to spicy food, but somehow the spicy broth caught me at the back of my throat rather than just the tongue. You should definitely give this place a try! It felt authentic.. most of the customers in there appeared to be Asian, which is usually a good sign.

Another yelper stated that "it's not the most authentic Chinese food you'll come across...". While he goes on to say that "by Victoria standards, it's up there... I'll take this moment to give him food for thought. My best friend is Chinese. I'm Chinese. Our grandmothers and our mothers made wonton for us at home. I, on the rare occasion, will wrap my own wonton. None of the five wontons we make will taste the same because we use different ingredients or the same ingredients in different measures. That does not make any of our wontons less than authentic than the others. We entered and were immediately greeted. We were directed to a four-top and presented with menus and water and/or tea. We perused the menu and decided to go with: Pan Fried Pot Stickers - 5 - They're not on the lunch menu but they are available. Shanghai Thick Noodles - 5 - A wonderful plate of deliciousness. Wor Wonton with Mixed Wonton - 5 - A simple clean bowl of Wor Wonton. They offer Pork or Shrimp or Mixed. I was hoping that Mixed had both Pork AND shrimp in them but that would force them to wrap three different styles instead of two. I ordered the Mixed just to compare the flavors. Both were delicious. On a subsequent visit, I would want to try their Hot & Sour Soup with 12 Shrimp Won Ton added. Service was quick and courteous. I'm sorry that we don't live closer but there are many excellent Chinese restaurants where we live too.

Quality along Japanese cuisine lines however, faces stiff competition from the nearby Hiro Sushi Xpress, which is arguably higher in every regard. === 2. FOOD Chicken Teriyaki ($11.95): With your choice of white or brown rice, you get diced chicken with 0 to 2 scoops of teriyaki sauce and a variety of griddle-fried, chopped vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, and carrots. Adding $4.50 makes any meal a "bento", where you can choose two sides; I happened to choose a 4-piece California Roll and 2-pieces of shrimp tempura. The food is fine, but the nearby Hiro Sushi Xpress just a couple of shops down from the food court seems to have higher quality food in all regards: better chicken, better veg, better California rolls, etc. === 3. SERVICE The service seems fine; the food is served relatively quick. However, who you get serving you seems to be one of two cooks at the griddle and there's no number for your order, just callouts of food. Choosing a popular dish like teriyaki chicken is something that prompts multiple people to step forward, which can cause confusion. Water is available self-serve with plastic cups at the end of the kiosk. === 4. ENVIRONMENT Bring one, bring all to the Hillside Centre food court: big, bright, and open, it's good room for everyone and their wheelchairs and baby strollers, if you have them. Parking is also easy to get in the spacious mall lot outside.
