Very clean and professional company. Hard to warranty work like this in my opinion but Paul did come back out about 4 months after to check since we heard some noise. Paul identified where the rat had used a tree branch to access our roof, showed me where it had chewed through the siding and sealed it up. Tree limb has been removed and no more issues. Recently where I live there had been a lot of rain and stormy weather. In that time unbeknownst to us a rodent took residence under our house and made its way into our walls. My wife was the first one to point out that she heard something crawling around inside the walls. Shortly thereafter we noticed signs in our garage that some sort of creature was trying to eat its way into the plastic feed container we had in our garage. Panicked I went to the hardware store and picked up some rat and mouse poison and left out some dishes of it. To my glee (and then horror) the critter ate from the poison and I was sure it was going to die... then I read the package of poison and realized that it was Eco-friendly poison that may or may not work... at this point many days had gone by and we were still finding droppings and signs the rodent was in good health. I found the right guy for mice & more! It wasn't easy because the reviews and promises and ratings for people who get rid of mice and rats are all very similar. High ratings and high promises. So how do you choose? This is a blind item for most of us. But I found the right guy. I now call him Spider-man because there was no place, nook or cranny he couldn't get to, and there was no entry that he didn't close. The amazing thing is that after reading two dozen or more reviews and having several inspectors come to access the situation, I chose the one that most people would pass up because Paul, the young owner of NorCal Rodent Proofing, had only one review! It was a "5" of course, but why only one review? It turns out that although he had worked in this field for over 9 years he had just recently started his own company. We spoke and I was impressed by several things: while most companies also said they can't give an estimate without an inspection, Paul's offering a free inspection sounded genuine, not like he was trying to get a foot in the door. He explained his procedures very clearly which were more extensive than the others I met or spoke with; his written estimate was much more extensive, more detailed and much more professional than the other inspectors who came. And a big one -he does the work necessary to fix the problems himself, unlike some others who said they'd identify the problem and will return to check for rodents after I hire someone else to do the "proofing!" Paul did everything, including affixing a long metal strip underneath the garage door where the mice could walk in, and cementing holes too small for wire mesh, replacing old or weak screen protectors, etc.! Finally, his warranty isn't limited to three visits or three months, but an entire year. He is committed to coming back until there was no more evidence of any rodents, and I believe even after the year he would still make visits at no charge if there was a reason to call him on the same house or apartment. On top of it all, his estimate was more reasonable than any of the others even though he was doing more work and returning more often. I chose Paul because I realized that he's the kind of person who is committed to give the best service possible, and also because he is building his business from scratch. So I knew he would do a fabulous job and I was not wrong. He came back two days after the inspection to do the job and impressed the heck out my tenants who had spotted the mouse droppings. They were thrilled with his work, amazed at his knowledge and his ability to get wherever there could even be a problem and close it. And he knows his business. (His specialty is all rodents, from squirrels and skunks and raccoons, to mice and rats, but not insects). The tenant and I were very frustrated with rats running around his detach single house unit. This continued for many years due to a neglected jungle next door. Many citations were given to the neighbor by the City for this problem but this is an ongoing maintenance issue. I contacted Paul Connell January of 2020. Do not use Norcal. I'm not sure who posted the many 5 star reviews, but our experiences was horrible, the worst. Paul along with another company said we needed a rat slab to solve our problem. We chose Norcal, because we liked Paul because of his honesty. We made a huge mistake. His workers did a poor job and Paul ended making excuses and then started blaming us for complaining too much and costing him time and money. He used foul language and wrote long texts blaming us. I live next to a creek with lots of trees and food for rodents. The only they need is housing so they gravitated towards the crawl space under our house. I requested quotes using the Yelp app and 4 different companies responded. All 4 came to visit and provided quotes. I had quotes from $1,500 to $12,000 so obviously one company was shooting for the moon! Paul's quote was the second cheapest but he was only higher by $300. I honestly don't review many companies, I'm often vocal and provide my feedback to the people doing the work (either good or bad). At same time, Paula and NRP are deserving of a review, that should hopefully sway others looking for a quick and inexpensive way to take care of your rodents issues. I have moved to Lafayette about 3 years ago, and having a 5,300 Sq Ft home, had always had to deal with one type of pest or another. Before it was the voles and the gofers tearing up my yard, next year it was the bees and wasps, but through out the years I have also always had a squirrel problem in my attic with which I had never properly dealt with. Ever since we moved to this house, we have always heard squirrels doing sprints in the attic. On more than one occasion, I had paid my contract who was working on the home on and off, to patch the visible holes/gaps between the side of the roof. It helped for a while, but they would always come back. While it was certainly annoying, it was never that big a deal, until it was. One day we started getting the smell. That smell that can't be mistaken with anything else. We knew we had a dead rodent up in attic. I got on the phone and started calling various companies, but unfortunately got the same response. We can first come to give you an estimate (some free, some paid) and then if you decide, we can come back and rodent proof your house. When I explained that I need to first remove the rodent, many said "that's not how we do things." That was an archaic silly response, to an issue I was trying to solve. They did a really thorough review of the exterior of our house to see possible entryways for rodents and covered them with mesh or other means. Had Paul come out about 6 months ago to a rental that had mouse issues. He quoted me $800 to close up all the holes from the outside so they couldn't get in. He did the work and it seemed to have resolved the issue. Just recently the tenant had some more issues so we called Paul back. He let us know that they started tunneling up through the ground and we would need a rat slab. He was overly apologetic and spent more time apologizing and telling me he didnt want to upset me than explaining the job. It is what it is so we approved the $4500 quote. He called again to schedule the work and without me asking said he would fit me in ahead of some other clients. Again very apologetic and just "trying not to upset anyone". He planned on prepping on one day and pouring on another and he'd arrive at 8am the first day. He let the tenant know the night before he couldn't be there till 10. So she arranged for someone to let him in and lock up afterwards. At 11am he hadn't arrived so she called me to see if i could check on when he would be there because her boyfriend was waiting for him. When i called him he was obviously stressed and upset and started telling me he didn't want to be treated this way etc and he didn't need to do the job. He claimed my tenant was being pushy and rude and he didn't have to do the job. In the year and a half she has rented from us she has been nothing but understanding and kind. I let him know she never told me she was upset. He kept going so i let him know that i thought i had been pretty understanding as well that he had given us a 3 year guarantee last time and I've never gotten upset once about this unexpected new issue. That's when he lost it. He started yelling at me about his terms and conditions and how it didn't cover tunneling etc. I had just given birth to our daughter and my husband heard him on the phone and came to try to calm him down but he just got more upset saying we weren't gonna get him because of his terms and conditions. (I never said i didn't want to pay for this new work or anything). He then hung up the phone and texted me a screen shot of his terms and conditions and didn't answer either mine or my husbands phone calls. I ended up having to text him that if he didn't want to answer my calls then we would find someone else to do the work. Honestly i think he was just overwhelmed and lost it but he seems to be a little crazy. I guess just beware if he says he has a lot of work right now that he doesn't handle stress well! Norcal Rodent Proofing Owner, Paul Connell, spent a long time thoroughly examining every possible rodent entry point in my home. The whole crew cleaned and sanitized our crawl space and left traps there and in specific places in the house. Truly SCAM, we paid over $10k to hire him to fix the rat problem we have in our foundation, Paul was trying to take advantage of the situation the whole time. He changed his tone and have a really bad attitude after collecting the money.  He made us to work with his brother John instead, but after 3 months of the work, we found rat still in kitchen, he told us over the phone, "John" is not his brother, what work he does not to his knowledge, John is not with company anymore, he needs to charge more if he comes back to do more work for us. When he emailed us about the follow ups, he didn't tell us anything, so we still work with his brother, after we find the problem, he tries to charge more and run away from responsibility. He even made up stories we shut down his help... which is not true... we are following his instructions to work with his brother! Our problem is not fixed after spending $10k, STAY AWAY. When we bought our house a year ago we discovered rat droppings in the attic during inspection. So we called in a rodent company who used foam to seal off all the entry points. A few months after we moved in, I heard noises coming from the attic. I didn't want to waste time calling back the same guys, so I decided to search on Yelp for someone reputable and reliable. That's when I came across Norcal. Paul the owner answered the phone. The second I mentioned the word foam, he knew there was work to be done. He explained everything in detail about how they service homes when it comes to rodent proofing and how foam never works. He came on time and assessed our home and gave us a pretty reasonable quote compared to another reputable company we contacted. Three of his guys showed up on the scheduled day at 8:30am sharp and got started on the project right away. Paul joined an hour later and made sure everything was being done correctly. He walked back an forth along the rooftop and along the perimeter of the house to make sure they didn't miss any entry points. They sealed them off with these metal wires using cement. They spent a pretty extensive 6hrs on the job. Afterwards, they put several rat traps in all three of my attics. One area was very tough to get into, but they didn't mind at all. I was told they would return once a week to check the traps for at least 4 weeks. Fast forward day #2 since the proofing. It was around 2am, I woke up to little footsteps running around right above my bedroom ceiling. I even heard what sounded like scratching against metal grates. It got louder and louder and then silence. Few minutes later I heard the loudest thumps like wooden blocks hitting the attic floor! I didn't hear any footsteps for the rest of the night. I called Paul the next morning and told him what happened. He said he would send his brother Darren to check the traps the following morning. Darren, super nice guy arrived on time. He found two huge rats caught in the traps! In just two days, problem was solved! Darren still insisted to leave more traps and come back weekly until it was clear for at least 4 weeks. We had several rats eat through our walls and cabinets to invade our kitchen and other living areas, my wife was completely stressing out over it. Seeing a mouse in our house sent me into an immediate panic.
