I want to give this new place a fair shot. We always complain in Stockton that there is hardly any new types of foods in town. So when I spotted Nordic Bites online and briefly perused their menu, I was momentarily transported back to my time visiting Iceland and all the delicious fresh fish delicacies I enjoyed there. I was excited to try this place (it had taken over the previous poppy coffee location near UOP), so it's a cute family owned business. Service was good and staff did their best to provide recommendations and explain the menu items. We did kind of a variety plate with different seafoods but most of them had a tart flavor profile. To be honest I'm a bit worried about the lifespan for this place since I don't know many people in town or whether the population's palate is inclined to Nordic foods in general-- I don't know ‍. It's rare that I become an instantaneous raving superfan of a restaurant, and it happened today. We were lucky enough to discover this place right after it opened (meaning I can say I knew how cool it was before everybody else did ), and I was just blown away with gustatory delight at the food. The sandwiches are absolute works of art and so delightful just to look at, aside from being the most delicious and flavorful tasting bits of artistry around. The owner does all the pickling and also smokes all the salmon herself! That homemade from scratch personal touch is so lacking in so many other establishments and I am beyond overjoyed to discover it here. The ube deconstructed cake was a purple cloud dream of fluffy heaven. And the lovely woman behind the counter said their mango one is even better which is a very high bar to reach but I can't wait to try it next time and see if she's right! Speaking of staff, they were lovely and so helpful in explaining and giving background to this amazing Nordic and Philippines inspired locale. I should also add they have vegetarian options and said they could accommodate that in various ways as well. And that they are planning on adding new and exciting things to the menu in days to come. I'm already planning what I want to get in my next visit. And the decor is really nice, green and serene. This place actually makes me proud to be in Stockton, which as any local can tell you is saying a lot! Edit: Went back and they have added some amazing menu items! The truffle smashed potatoes with crème fraiche aioli sauce are incredible and apparently selling like hotcakes to the Door Dash crowd. Who can even think of eating french fries after this exquisiteness? I want to firehouse that aioli on everything btw. I had the vegan/vegetarian option and it was gorgeous and had a nice tangy sauce that complemented the spread and I thought they did a wonderful job with that. The pickled radishes on the top were a nice touch and I loved the beets. And another brand new menu item, the egg and shrimp, was a knockout. Atmosphere was nice. It was quiet and staff were friendly. My first time here so I didn't really know what to get. We went with their Smushi Brunch Board. (6 pieces) My favorite of all the sandwiches we've tried was the shrimp and egg. I personally didn't like the turmeric herring sandwich. Had to spit it out. I also got their ice Dalgona coffee. It was too much milk and coffee taste wasn't there for me. I recommend not ordering too much, because it does fill you up pretty fast. I have to say the presentation of the food itself is superb. It was the only reason that made me want to try this place. Overall I do recommend this place, but it'll probably not suit everyone's taste. Price is reasonable. read more

I always have my eye out for new culinary-fusion spots, and I am glad to say that this place is 110% worth trying for anyone looking for something new in the area. 5 stars because I see so much potential. We ordered the Gyro Lamb UFO, the Open Faced Smoke Salmon Sandwich, the Ube Chai, and the Mango Cream Cake. The Gyro Lamb UFO is a solid 4/5, with a nice balance between a fluffy and crisp bread, encompassing the inside that is filled with 80% gyro. Each bite was full of satisfying creamy meaty goodness. The Open Face Smoke Salmon Sandwich is a 4/5. They did not skimp on their smoke salmon pieces, and the quality of the salmon they used is absolutely wonderful as you take a mouthful. It's akin to eating its sashimi counterpart. However, the vinaigrette they put on the greens and the pickled vegetable they added was a little overpowering with acidic flavor. I enjoyed it with the pickled vegetable put aside to get more of the satisfying salmon flavor. (Edit: I've been told that it usually isn't acidic as they've prepared for me, so I highly recommend this dish if you like smoked salmon) The Ube Chai is a solid 5/5. Many combination Ube flavored drinks fail to balance the Ube with the rest of the drink, but this one was one of few that was successful. It is THE perfect sweet blend of Ube and Chai. I recommend shaking up the drink completely to fully appreciate it. The Mango Cream Cake is a 4/5. It is exactly as you would expect: Mango + Cream + Cake. If you crave sweet mango desserts, this one would definitely satisfy your craving. Overall, I enjoyed the food. It is obvious that they put a lot of love in their dishes. Nordic Bites is a wonderful place for brunch. On my first visit, I had delicious croffle with lox and rich cardamom coffee. After this, I knew I had to return (the following week) to try something else. Their salad with airfried halibut was a hit with me and two other people in my party. Some of the best food I have had. Enjoyed the Ube Chai and the danish meatball brioche with smashed potatoes. Amazing!! Perfect flavors in the sandwich of savory with some tang from the pickles and pickled cabbage. The smashed potatoes were also fantastic and the Ube chai is sweet but not overwhelming. But, next time I am ordering the drink with no or little ice as the drink was more ice than it was drink- full to the top of ice. I was surprised at how flavorful and filling the smushi board was. I shared it with my husband and we were full before finishing all 6 sandwiches. The prices are reasonable and they have a variety of items. I look forward to trying the other items on the menu. The Ube chai is great! Lo Ely combination of flavors.
