Wow! My last review of Flip's was over ten years ago, and while my last visit wasn't quite as long ago, it's still the same Flip's we loved with some little updates. It's still the same building at the corner of Waterloo and N. Filbert st. and they have their own parking, which makes it easy to stop in. The chalkboard menu has been replaced with a digital menu, but all the old favorites are still available. Really, not much else has changed. They offer all day breakfast sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, additional sandwiches and some delicious fried options including multiple options of fries. They're also known for their milkshakes. The team here greeted us right away and gave us time to look over the menu and snap some photos before we placed our order. On this visit we ordered a small Rocky Road milkshake ($7.75) and a small is still a generous sized milkshake. I split it with my friend and it was plenty for both of us. One thing that makes their shakes special is that they blend them into a thick shake, but add an extra scoop of ice cream on top. This way it's nice and cold and you can scoop it or let it melt as you drink from the bottom of the shake and the thick consistency lasts longer. Stopping in reminded me why we love this spot and that I need to visit more often- especially for a full meal so I can enjoy their burgers again. read more

This was my first time here. I normally don't get into this part of Stockton with my commute to work but wanted to try it. Went with the cheese bacon burger basket. It was pretty good. If you don't mind getting your fingers in here then this is for you. I would say it was worth the drive but not sure I would go back. read more

Wow, they make damn good burgers here! I ordered the Flip's Cheeseburger, and they really did justice to this classic. The patty was juicy, topped with gooey melted cheese and a delicious house sauce. I especially loved the attention to detail - using sliced red onions and chopped lettuce, giving it the perfect ratio of beef and toppings. Nice clean street side burger joint with the BEST fatty foods! The deep fried Oreo milkshake was literally the BEST my wife has ever had, and she considers herself an Oreo shake snob. I had the bacon cheeseburger with a massive cheese skirt, fried to perfection on the griddle. Curly fries and sweet potato fries both crispy and fresh. Service was polite, efficient, and helpful. 1/31/25 - I have read great reviews about this place so I was anxious to try it myself. Since I was attending my grandson's basketball game a little later I figured I would get some dinner while waiting because there was no way I was going to come home after 8:30p., and cook. I checked for the address and found it. The place is small with 15 tables and four stools for bar-like dining. They have a lot of options to choose from. I chose the double burger combo which was $15.00+. The French fries were hot but needed salt badly and for me even after I put the salt on which isn't good for you the fries still didn't taste good. I didn't taste anything near a potato in these fries. The burger was good, but not the best. The tables and floors were clean and where they have their condiments was clean. They probably make their money from the locals or neighborhood. I don't think I will return because I live pretty far from there. The cashier was very friendly. read more

It's not amazing, but it was decent. The cheese burger was average. No complaints. The fries were not hot at all. I was disappointed there. I would recommend this place, but eat there. I tried this place for the first time today and my experience wasn't so good, i waited about 30 minutes just to get two burgers and some wings. I got 5 buffalo wings and 5 lemon pepper wings, the lemon pepper wings had still grease on them and the buffalo wings barely had any sauce, now the double cheeseburger it was alright but it needed more salt on the patty's but it was kinda juicy and i also got the crispy chicken sandwich and let me tell you the chicken wasn't even crispy it was soft and had a weird spot in the middle not so tasty and i would've thought it would be better. The place was clean it looked nice, but some things to improve are the wings, patty's seasoning, and the crisp on those sandwiches. read more

Really, really good burger and fries at a reasonable price! My brother told me this place was good years ago but never got the chance to try it. Went tonight before going to see George Lopez. I had a veggie burger and my sister had the original flips burger. We shared the large serving of delicious crispy fries. Food was freshly made. Lettuce was crisp, tomato was sweet, pickle was tangy and crisp. Bun buttered and toasted. Everything you want in a great burger!! Cashier was helpful and polite. Clean and well kept restaurant. Great hole in the wall place! Mom and pop feel. Reasonable prices and great combos! The burgers are juicy and cheesy. The best cheesy crust there is! Also got the grilled chicken sandwich super juicy and flavorful nothing crazy simple but was delish. Their house dressing is good with the fries! So, newish to Stockton and wanted a good burger, Flip's was recommended so we went. I decided to go big or go home and got the Nicks, very happy. Cheeseburger with a chicken patty, pastrami and all the fixins. Kid got the chicken tenders, wife tried the Turkey burger, she was happy too, a lot of times places that serve them make them dry. Not the case here. I also ordered cheese fries, shredded cheddar on top of French fries and a absolutely wonderful peanut butter milkshake OMG, chunky peanut butter is the best. The main issue is that they're way overpriced. The food is mediocre, yet they're charging as if it's a fine dining restaurant. Unsavory double cheeseburger. Cheap fries and cheap chili on chili cheese fries left much to be desired. They charge $1 for refills. There were flies flying around the small restaurant so we had to constantly flicker our food from being contaminated. No restrooms. Go to the habit instead for better food that also cost less. read more

Any discussion about the best burger restaurant in Stockton always includes Flip's, and for good reason. Theirs burgers are tasty, satisfying, and affordable. No, I didn't say they're healthy but who cares? That's not why you're here. My go-to is the Flip's Royale burger. It comes with American cheese, bacon, mushrooms, and an egg which is always perfectly cooked. It comes with some sauce as well but you'll notice the runny egg more. Other burgers have different combinations of other toppings you can think of. I've never tried the hot dogs but they have different kids as well. Sides include standard fries and onion rings as well as goodies such as deep- fried Oreos. Flip's has an assortment of different kinds of ice cream and milkshakes as well. If you like Cap'n Crunch cereal then the Cap'n Crunch milkshake is definitely worth trying. Flip's is in an unassuming working-class neighborhood in east Stockton. I've never had any issues but be smart and don't leave valuables visible in your car. My only recommendation (besides coming here) is to leave your to-go bag horizontal as they serve your burger and fries/rings together in a basket. If you turn your bag vertical like I did then the juicy burger and topping might drip onto your sides and make them soggy. read more

1/27/22 Well, it's a hole-in-the-wall in a city far far far away, so I'm gonna be a bit lenient... I did appreciate that they have "cheese skirts" here. It's even a side for $2 I think, but basically you can order a burger and get this crazy "skirt" that is easily the size of a medium plate placed in your burger. And seriously, it's a TON of cheese--not just a thin layer of fried goodness, but there must be at least half a brick of cheddar cheese used to make it. That alone does a lot to justify cost. 1. Bacon Cheddar Flip Basket $9.99 "cheddar cheese skirt with grilled onions": Yeah, $10 for a decent sized burger, a HUGE amount of cheese as I mentioned above, and fries... pretty good deal! But... but.... the meat is cheap and while it was all edible, it wasn't anything to brag about. The cheese was very enjoyable, and if they nailed the patty man it would be killer, but no.... But the fries were good--very fried. 6/10 2. Small Chocolate Shake $5.50: Pretty bad. Fried Coffee Cake $4: This was interesting--they also had a ton of other non-=typical stuff fried up. But I've never seen fried coffee cake before so I had to get it! Pretty good honestly. While we were there, 2 different customers came back because their order was missing items. The owner argued with them and said that they had not ordered the missing items. Wanted a burger on my way back to the Bay Area after a day of skiing. This worked for timing and the reviews looked good. Burger was good and very reasonably priced. I got the bacon cheddar flip basket. I guess I didn't read the menu closely enough and was surprised by the cheese skirt. Way too much cheese for me, but that's not a complaint, I'm sure many people would really love that. Produce on the burger was fresh and lettuce crispy. Burger meat tasted like a burger. The bun is my only minor complaint, wasn't as dense as I would have liked, but it's a bun. No big deal. Fries were surprisingly good, I wasn't expecting them to be batter dipped and seasoned. Pepsi fountain drinks (I prefer Coke but I'm not docking them for that). Great service and a clean bathroom. I can see this becoming a regular stop for me, especially if I've got kids with me. read more
