As mentioned in other reviews, this place is the best restaurant in Lake George. It exceeds expectations by providing food and service at such a great quality, it would make the Queen of England jealous. Our visit to Porreca's was a little too early. They apparently open at 5:00pm and we arrived to a locked door at around 4:40pm. I was getting a little disappointed because I really wanted to try this place. But then the chef had let us in and seated us at the bar until the restaurant officially opened. The view from the bar was nice. You can see a little bit of Lake George out in the distance. My girlfriend and I started out with two Long Island Ice Teas. Drinks were strong which is the way I like them. While we waited for our table at the bar, the chef sent out a meatball appetizer on the house. The meatball recipe was the chef's mother's recipe and they were some of the best meatballs I've ever had. We were seated not long after finishing our free meatball appetizer. I ordered Porreca's Americade special spaghetti with home made meatballs and my girlfriend ordered the prime rib. The waiter ended up returning after taking our order as the chef wanted to know if my girlfriend wanted an end cut or a regular cut. Dinner started out with salad and bread. Nothing special about the salad, but the bread comes with home made butter. Everything is home made at Porreca's. The spaghetti and meatballs and prime rib were perfect. I'm not sure why the one reviewer mentioned small portions. I wasn't even able to finish my dinner, but as good as everything was so far, there was no way I was going to pass up dessert. I ordered the Limoncello Cheesecake and my girlfriend ordered Tiramisu. Just like the meatballs, bread, drinks, and dinner, the desserts were also amazing. Limoncello Cheescake came with blueberries. Which gave it the perfect touch. Our bill came to about $83.00 for a party of two, but we got it all. I'm not 100% sure, but I didn't see any of our drinks on the check. We ordered a glass of wine and a Jack and Coke in addition to the two Long Island Ice Teas we had when we came in. This restaurant is not for someone who's looking for a cheap meal. Go to the Moose Tooth Grill for that. This restaurant may be expensive, but is worth every penny. For the service alone, I left the waiter a $20 tip. I was that satisfied. If you're a couple looking for a romantic dinner, then this is your place. Porecca's is not only the best restaurant in Lake George, but the best restaurant I've visited so far and I eat at a lot of restaurants. My concern is that I hope they didn't set the expectations too high for when we come back for our second visit in the future, but our first visit our Porrcea's is an experience that I'll never forget. read more

Let's just cut to the chase here -- Porecca's Restaurant is one of the best restaurants I've dined at in Lake George, and easily ties my previous favorite eggplant rotolini of all time. The food and the service were excellent and the atmosphere was very welcoming. After looking through the menus for Lake George Region Restaurant Week, I decided Porecca's was where I wanted to try first, because of all the vegetarian options on the restaurant week menu. The eggplant dish was first to catch my eye, and how could you beat a three course meal at this place for only $20.11? First off, they start you out with fresh focaccia tasting bread and homemade butter. Typically, I would have been disappointed because they were serving butter instead of olive oil, but then I tasted it -- the butter was creamy, soft and spread perfectly without completely melting. For my appetizer, I ordered the mozzarella and tomato salad, which features layers of homemade fresh mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes and basil drizzled in a balsamic reduction. Lines of the balsamic reduction soaked into the top layer of mozzarella to give it a bold, but not too strong flavor. Next came the main course -- eggplant rotolini. Oh.My.Gosh. The eggplant was cooked perfectly -- not too firm or chewy, but also not mushy or soft. The rolls of eggplant were filled with rich, creamy, homemade ricotta. Fresh, melted mozzarella along with a little sauce made the perfect topping. All of the flavors meshed equally. It's served with a side of thin spaghetti covered in a light marinara sauce. Once the dish gets to your table, they offer fresh cracked pepper or fresh grated Parmesan. (I went for the fresh parm) Everything tastes very fresh, like it is made-to-order. I really love that it's also all homemade -- the cheese, the butter, the cream, the ricotta -- everything! As if the meal wasn't rich enough, it ended with homemade pan cotta -- a vanilla flavored Italian dessert that was so rich, creamy and sweet. It started with a vanilla flavor and finished with a very light citrus aftertaste. In case you're curious, the dessert on the right is their chocolate mousse. It has a powerful dark chocolate taste that gives you the sensation of a chunk of expensive chocolate melting in your mouth. If You Go: *Give yourself plenty of time. It's a small restaurant, and they don't rush you. *Much of the wine list is by the bottle. Order the bottle, it will come out cheaper. *If the outside dining area is open, try to get the table furthest to the end/wall, because you'll have a view of the lake. *In addition to the restaurant, they have a nice bar area perfect for grabbing a quick cocktail, meeting for a first date or enjoying a glass of wine while you wait to be seated. read more

More like 2.5 star place but I'll give it a bump to 3 considering the food around Lake George is awful slop. The homemade pasta is fairly good but the other stuff added just doesn't taste that good. I tried two homemade pasta dishes and was very underwhelmed, even though each dish was adequate but nothing gave me that "oh, that's good" reaction. And for the prices I should have that reaction. I ordered the tiramisu on the recommendation of other Yelp reviewers and it was too sweet and dry/starchy. The mascarpone cheese was hard to taste over the sugar and the lady fingers were dry/boring. I'm all for reinventions of classic dishes/recipes to keep it fresh but the tiramisu should be reworked to a classic recipe. Maybe more like 2.5 stars. Right on the edge of Lake George Village, Porreca's is surrounded by motels and are only open 6 months out of the year. There's outdoor seating available, and but the weather was too humid for us to sit outside. The calamari appetizer was underseasoned, lacking in any flavor. I ordered the king salmon as an entree, which actually looked and tasted like chicken. The homemade parpadelle bolognese was a hit for the others in our party, but I personally thought it had a weird aftertaste. For dessert, the tiramisu was highly recommended, and they actually only had 2 left for the night. Our table ordered both, and I got the panna cotta instead. The tiramisu is different from the traditional method, the lady fingers are coated in sugar, and layered between the marscapone. I prefer tiramisu to be moist and soaked in coffee, but this was dry and hard to eat. Yes it's a dessert, but it was overly sweet. On the other hand, the panna cotta lacked sweetness. Maybe they used up all the sugar for the tiramisu and didn't have enough for the panna cotta. Remember to grab one of the LakeGeorgeGuide books, they have a buy-one-entree-get-one-half-off coupon that we found after the fact. 3.689 stars I don't use a sliding scale, I may mention that a certain establishment is head an shoulders above the local competition, but the star ratings are the same for NYC and Lake George. That being said; yes best resto within a 28 mile radius, you have to go to Saratoga Springs to find something on this level and Porreca's is probably better than half the decent places there. The room has a logde feel which given the mountain and the lake is fitting. There is just barely a view of the lake. The dinning room is spacious the tables are not cramped, the bar is on split level and afford you best chance of said view. There was a slight disappointment that there was no cold antipasti alternatives, we ordered the calamari as a proxy. The breading was a tad heavy and the portion was small. Next we split a bowl of the Bolognese on a bed of fresh cut pasta (pappardelle), this is when things picked up. The sauce rich with a velvet texture and and the noodles were al dente in a way that only fresh made pasta can be. The entrees were the chicken parmesan and the veal picata. The former was a very upscale, the marinara sauce was mopped up with bread after the dish was finished. The veal was a tad vulcanized but the sauce was so good it didn't really detract from the dish, the medallions could have use a little more pounding. The owner was helpful navigating the wine list, and we chose an Italian "meritage" a very interesting blend that was deep purple in color with dry bright beginning and mellow finish. I would offer that this man knows his wines, get a bottle here to enhance the dining experience. The dolce was panna cotta and tiramisu, two classics, well made but not standouts. Just one server that I can see and the lad was taxed to his maximum, but he was affable. * parking in front not trivial getting in and out of the lot. * go early here, things close early here. * hit this place if you want a good meal, we found the competition lacking. read more

After a few blah meals out of convenience we decided to get some yelp finding a good restaurant nearby. No surprise that many of the places were poorly rated - but once again we were saved finding this place just up the road. My wife and I both went with the homemade pasta. I got the bolognese and my wife had the pesto fettuccine. It didn't disappoint and there wasn't anything left afterwards. The pastas were cooked perfect and the sauces were delicious. The kids had pastas were huge and even after they stuffed themselves they still wanted to bring it back in case they got hungry. Where to start. I'm so disappointed. My friends and I stayed at the motel right behind this place and she placed an order over the phone. When she picked up her food she noticed part of her meal was missing. She went back with it and whoever was in charge didn't seem to know anything going on. What we believe is this cook made a scene in front of everyone. On top of that, while placing her order over the phone the man taking it said at one point "oh shit".. really. Porreca's Restaurant, at the northern tip of Lake George Village has the best food in the region. At dinner, the pastas, breads, and desserts are all made on-site. They even make their own butter to spread on the "just out of the oven" foccacia. The warm goat cheese puffs that accompany the Arugula salad are the perfect combination of crisp and creamy. The Calamari with red pepper aioli is a great starter. The Italian influenced menu not only includes great pasta, the entrees are also exceptional. There are classics, such as chicken Parmesan, and innovative dishes such as the sausage with arugula and fresh herbs. I can't wait to have that again! Those who flock to the tourist oriented eating establishments a block or so south don't know what they are missing. This is a restaurant well worth the extra block, extra mile, extra 10 miles. I feel like when we visited they must have been short staffed because our service was between three different people whose efforts did not equal one. My meal was completely forgotten and I had to ask about it three times over 20 mins before they realized the chef missed it on the ticket. So, we came here based on the 5-star review on Yelp. First of all, the menu is very small, prices are $$$ or even $$$$ level. Portions for the entree are small and it doesn't come with a salad. No soups either. My boyfriend ordered penne vodka and asked to add chicken to it - they did but added $10 to our bill for a couple of pieces of chicken on top of the pasta dish. Pasta was very good but the vodka sauce tasted more like a good mac-n-cheese sauce (no discernible tomato base to it at all). I ordered the special with haddock. It was very good but (in my opinion) severely overpriced for a small portion with no salad ($24). Also, we are used to generous bread baskets in restaurants when you order a dinner entree. Here, we got two tiny slices of bread. Overall, our dinner for two with no appetizers but one glass of wine and one non-alcoholic drink came up to $65 plus tip. read more

The fact that i have not been to Lake George in years--- I was not sure where to find a nice healthy meal. After researching the LG area i noticed that Porreca's received some nice reviews. To make a long story short and not waste any time, this place is top notch. The mixed green salad was fresh, and locally grown. I would give it five stars except for two things: 1) appetizer salads are large and pricey. Couldn't there be half-serving portions of salads for a smaller price? and 2) the outside railing on the steps leading to the main entrance is plastic (not wood) and yields easily. The food here is outstanding, their special beef braciole with homemade pasta was made to perfection. Zuppa di pesce was made with fresh seafood, well seasoned, great dish. My boyfriend's family lives in the area, and neither of us have ever heard of this place until I checked out Yelp since we were tired of our usual places that we go to when we visit. The restaurant is part of a motel right were 9 and 9N split. We drove right past the place and had to turn around. I was super surprised by this place! The food was fresh and delicious. I got the bolognese and it tasted like my friend's old school Italian mother's bolognese! My bf got the penne ala vodka and that too was excellent. Everything came out quickly. Nothing was overly salty or under seasoned. The service was amazing, but we were one of the three tables there. The waiter and the bus boy were super friendly and our water glasses were never empty. The prices were fair for the area, I feel that everything up in the Lake George area is over priced for mediocre food. This place is worth the price! Points for effort, as the presentation of dishes ordered from a restrained but full-featured menu was very dignified. But, the meats were overdone and dry. I ordered the pork tenderloin. It was grey and dull looking, and tasted just ok. The veggies were top drawer though. Potatoes and green beans were fresh and crisp and tasted wonderful. My wife ordered a steak and scallop special. The scallops were amazing but the sirloin was cafeteria grade. Edible, but not at the same level as the rest of the plate. Also, the special cost us a whopping 41 dollars! Let me start off saying that if this is the best Italian food in lake George, then maybe you should avoid having Italian food in lake George. Firstly, we get to the place which is roughly 70% full and the manager tells us there is no more menus. The table adjacent to us lends us their copies. No big deal, family friendly place or so I thought. It took 20 min to get us our glasses of wine. 45 min for the the bread with house made butter which was not bad. However, If I am waiting that long for bread it had better be hot, which it was not. At the hour mark we got out insalate caprese. If it took me that long to make that simple salad at home my family would disown me. 30 min later we finally get out meal. Not to harp on service but it plain old sucked. We asked out waitress for an extra plate and she goes back to kitchen for presumably Our plate but alas no she comes back out with someone else's food and then is standing around aimlessly. When we asked her again for a plate, she looked as confused as a food service handler during neurosurgery. Ultimately have this place a two for the wine and bread. The food was mediocre was average at best. I have better Italian food at airport terminals, and yes I had the homemade pasta. Take my suggestion, avoid having Italian food in lake George if this is this is the gold standard. read more

We ate here for breakfast one day last week - it was good, pretty standard breakfast fare but we live in Vermont and Burlington really DOES breakfast. I wish I could include a review of the food here, but I cannot. I called Porreca's on Monday to make a reservation for Thursday for 6:00. When we pulled on the door at 5:45 on Thursday, it was locked and the entire restaurant was dark. The office staff said they hadn't seen any of the employees all day, and she didn't think they would be open till the next day.
