I frequently travel to Seattle for work quite a bit and have been tempted to try The Grill at Nordstrom a few times. I've even gone so far as to walk up to it only to chicken out at the last minute because it was so empty. On my last visit I finally stopped in for dinner before I had to head to the airport. I kept to a fairly light dinner and ordered the halibut as suggested by my server. It was one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. The fish was expertly prepared and lightly seasoned. It was served on top of a savory bed of fingerling potatoes, sauteed spinach and chanterelle mushrooms. Everything was served in a friendly and timely manner. My only complaints would be the mediocre bread served with my meal and the somewhat pedestrian bourbon selection, but those are petty. For the cost of the meal, I think it's a fantastic value. Worst place to eat ever for me which is suprising because I love Nordstrom Cafe. I chose this place for restaurant week and yes my reservation was one of the last one of the night but everything that I ate had to go back minus the dessert. I mean you can't really mess up icecream. So we ordered our appetizers and main courses, my appetizers came out but it wasn't what I ordered so that didn't work. I ordered the salmon and artichoke dip and when that came out, one bite of that and I had to stop eating it. The dip was fishy and yes I know Salmon is a type of fish but you are't suppose to taste that fishy taste. Next my Halibut came out and well that was overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside. I had one bite and couldn't stand that either. That was sent back and I didn't want to try anything else. My friend ordered the steak and that came out tuff. I felt bad because of all te restaurants in Seattle for SRW I chose this place and I chose wrong. My dinner was a glass of Malbec which wasn't a bad choice and the chocolate cover mint sticks that I absolutely adore. The two stars is for the waitress. I used to go to the habitat all the time which is still love, but I thought I'd try out the grill and I was in love with everything i had! I ordered the grilled veggie and kale salad, it was one of the best salads I've had in a long time. I got wonderful recommendations from the bartender, Eugene! Making post, during, or pre shopping hunger pangs a thing you never have to go too far to satisfy. When it comes to the Nordstrom grill line of restaurants (all nestled in Nordstrom department stores) The grill at the flagship downtown Seattle Nordy's is by far the best of all of them. The menu tends to vary (only slightly at least) when you go from location to location, but this particular one has never failed to provide a good meal for a good price with speedy service. My usuals are the salads, and by far this location seems to have the most skilled chefs of the brand. Always high quality food and the presentation to the plating is superb. Though very roomy, the restaurant can get pretty busy during weekends, which can affect the service slightly, but of course that's to be expected. When shopping at Nordy's you can do much worse than trying the in house restaurant, with other choices around you, thanks to the Pacific Place being in such close proximity, one can get pretty puzzled trying to find a place to eat... But just do it, really, you won't be disappointed. read more

The quality here has gone down a tad, which saddens me tremendously. I came in on a weekday during the tail end of the anniversary sale, and I was quite disappointed. The Nordstrom Grill is the perfect kind of place to go when you can't decide what kind of food you want to eat. Generally the menu consists of contemporary takes on classic american dishes - and they're good too. I've had the Asian Chicken Salad twice and both times it was excellent. The chicken didn't have any strange flavors and the fresh greens were lightly tossed with the sesame dressing. At 400 (sans dressing, I order it on the side) calories it is one of the healthier options here at the grill, but don't feel jealous of your friends for ordering more hearty looking meals - the salad does not disappoint. I never knew this existed until I had to run downstairs to the mens shoe department to get a gift - which was a welcome relief when the upstairs cafe was overrun with harried shoppers. Avoiding both lines, a friend and I option for the bar for a glass of wine and a salad for lunch. The service and the decor are great at the Grill...but the food is just so boring for the price. I really couldn't feel like the food provided a better dining experience than the Cafe upstairs. I know the menu items are a bit more substantial and they often have more expensive ingredients, but they just don't deliver. I had the roast chicken, which is one of my favorite foods, and it was remarkably bland. It came with a side of steamed vegetables which had simply not been cooked enough. I know that is a very common problem, but just because a lot of places screw it up doesn't give them a free pass. This is my favorite restaurant in downtown Seattle. It might not have the best food, the best service, or the best ambiance, but every time I've stopped in for a bite to eat on the weekends or a drink after work, it has been consistently good across the board. Its location is conveniently on the metro level near men's furnishings so I don't have to go outside and brave the wind-tunnel that is 3rd Ave. I normally get one of the chicken or fish entrees, so I can't comment on the other menu items, but I have not had a problem with them being dry. read more

Everything was just plain mediocre. Boyfriend was excited about the crab bisque, but it almost tasted purely of red pepper. I love this place when I worked for Nordstrom. Now I find myself missing the signature soups and the house made dressings. The service is always top notch and the team is very warm and friendly. The menus has a lot of great things to try New or that are old favorites if you are a Nordy's person. There wine and beer selection is always roating and if you don't know what you want that will help you find a good wine to put your meal with. The wealth of knowledge about the food and wine is amazing. There are long time staff members that make this place feel more like a home environment than a dandy restaurant. I love coming here and parking my car right at the front at valet for just $5.50 for an hour (or $9 for 4 hours!) to poke in and grab a quick lunch. The menu has a bit of everything but someone recommended the halibut and chips which is what I got today - delish!!! For what you get I think it's a good price at $20, much better than the just okay salmon for $30. The atmosphere is a little cramps and I do feel really rushed every time I'm here which is why I took a star off - the servers are definitely extremely quick to get you your check as soon as possible but I get it being the flagship Nordstrom and a very busy location as a result. The food is solid and again it's a great place to dine while still feeling like you ate quality stuff either before or after some quick shopping. Oh, Saint Louis....how I love your crabs! I went on a date recently (thank you peeps!), and we decided to stop for some lunch at the grill. He had the blackened salmon salad and I decided on the Saint Louis salad. Both salads were beautifully served, portions were sensible-you won't find heaps of it , but just enough to satiate an appetite, and the amount of the "good-stuff" ei: the crab, shrimp, etc. were in better than decent porportions-there was no skimping. A few things to mention: my date (having been here a number of times) thought the portion of salmon had been reduced compared to the prior years; traditionally, Louis salads don't usually have fried shrimps, and this one did. So, if you don't like the fried in your salad, make sure to tell them; Oh, and I had them toss my salad with a light drizzle of dressing...they were very accommodating. As far as the feel of the place: Very old-world nice. What I mean by this is that it felt like I had stepped into a 1920's restaurant where the feel of quality over powered the feel of cheep and fast. It feels like when you leave, instead of walking through the men's department, you'd be stepping onto a cold New York City Street. The Caesar Salad with Chicken is perfect. The Asian Chicken Salad is probably the best one I've ever had. The crispy chicken sandwich - o m g. This sandwich was a total surprise. It seems so ordinary, but flavors will give you a one-two knockout punch. I had my first bite of this sandwich and I looked at my friends and wanted to cry I couldn't even describe it. Sometimes this place is good and other times it's just ok. The angus burger is a pretty hefty good burger. No complaints. Crab bisque is pretty good. I like dipping the bread into it. But didn't get much crab when I recently tried it. The ginger sesame chicken salad would be better if they put less dressing. The glaze on the chicken plus the dressing can get very salty and greens soggy. The chicken sliders during happy hour is a good choice. There was a time when all the good downtown department stores had nice places to have lunch and even dinner: The Bon Marche had the Cascade Room, and at Frederick & Nelson you had the Tea Room, the Men's Grill, and the Paul Bunyan Room. Now it's mostly glorified fast food, which makes the Grill at Nordstrom such a welcome throw-back to the higher food standards of another time. I've eaten there about 5-6 times during the last year, and have had wonderful food and service every time. My lunch on Tuesday was a classic: a big bowl of thier signature Crab Bisque, followed by their very tasty and unusual grilled vegetable salad, with mixed greens and tasty hunks of squash, asparagus and sweeet corn, which tasted right off the cob. Both dishes are worthy of any fine dining establishment you can think of. I'm not sure who supplies their sourdough bread but it is way above average as well. Tea glasses and coffee cups are kept full in an unobtrusive fashion. I've also had chicken sandwiches and some of the other salads and nothing has ever been less than excellent. Service is unusual in that it is both friendly and professional. I don't like noice in restaurants but the noise level here is perfectly OK. Plenty of choices for vegetarians. This was my first time here. We ordered the smashed potatoes as an appetizer and it was crispy and delicious, especially when you dipped it in the bacon-sprinkled aioli sauce. I got the crab bisque (yes it is as good as everyone says) and the steak salad. The steak on the salad was cooked medium rare, which I like. My friends raved about their chicken burger and sautéed spinach. We also split a warm cookie sundae and it was really really good. When you think Nordstrom, you don't think food, but I do. I only live about 2.4 miles away from the Flagship store. You go downstairs, head to Mens Furnishing - but don't go all the way to Men's Suits. You will find the Grill. The tomato soup is always good, and especially the crab bisque is worth the trip from your office. The crab bisque, served with sour dough bread is lovely. The fish and chips are always good, so it the cobb salad. The wait staff are always friendly, and sitting at the bar is always fun. It is busy during the workday lunch hour, but the rest of the time it is not that busy, since there is the cafe up on 3 which is much more busy. I like to call in an order to go. It is ready within 10 minutes, and they are always friendly. They always ask on the phone if I'm an employee. Evidently employees eat there as well. Always a good sign. If you are staying at a downtown hotel and don't know where to get some good food without breaking the bank, go to Nordstrom. Take in the anniversary sale while you are at if it is the end of July. read more
