Tried Nori, a vegan sushi spot in Austin, and it definitely delivered. The ambiance is super cute, perfect for a date night, but also relaxed enough to come with friends. Service was great from start to finish, and having parking available made the whole experience even better (not always a given in Austin). I ordered the gyoza and shared a few rolls, and everything was fresh and flavorful. Overall, I'd definitely come back, great vibes, good food, and an easy, enjoyable night out.

Love Nori and their vegan sushi quality is fabulous. But our experience at patio was terrible... they were full of flies and that literally made our dinner time super unpleasant. There were some seats available so we asked for them but they told us they were all reserved... honestly, half of the seats inside were empty. We had a baby with us and she was suffered from heat... yes, we should have reserved it but wish they were little more considerate.

Nori in the middle of guad feels like a fever dream but it's a classy establishment. Take advantage of happy hour since it's pricey for vegan sushi. All the rolls were top notch but my favorite was the shiitake which had the most complex flavors. Volcano was a second but it being deep fried helps. Dragon roll is so so- lacking some complex flavor. Special shoutout to the cauliflower wings! For the price we paid, I expected better service, felt pretty average. Great spot though!

Food The prices do seem high, but they portions are large for the entrees. The only regret is that we did not try the steak and I hope to come back for that in the future. The Katsu curry is excellent and would highly recommend. Service We had an engagement and birthday and wish I got a little more than a half dead carnation? They were a little late seating us despite the reservation and there was not really a place for us to sit down. Ambiance Such a cute place and nicely decorated. The seats were comfortable and they did seem to be busy even on a Sunday evening.

Was running late for my reservation and thankfully they held the spot. Sat at the bar and Val took great care of me. They explained all the details for menu options including the specials, drinks that can be made zero proof, spiked or with THC. I saw they did a Mango Lychee daiquiri and asked if I could have a Lychee martini and they were able to provide. Awesome! Got the volcano roll and the spicy ponzu spring roll. Also they were in Happy Hour from 5-6:30, so a couple bucks off the items ordered. The volcano roll was amazing, you'd never know it didn't have fish in it. The spicy ponzu spring roll was difficult to eat. The roll was not tight enough to hold anything and after the absolute failure on the first one asked for a fork. I'm pretty good with chop sticks so this was disappointing to me. Got the lemon raspberry dessert and another amazing item. Just the right size. The restaurant was modern, loved the light fixtures.

We always love coming to Nori for any special occasions. Nice vibe, great food, and always super helpful staffs. Always a pleasant experience with Nori. This time we ordered some happy hour menus, which I didn't know they had! We got two different types of baos and some rolls and nigiri sampler! The baos were nice, we preferred the chicken one over the bbq. The miso soup is the one thing we get all the time, it's just so flavorful and nice. This time it was a little bit salty. I would recommend everyone bring some friends and try different rolls together. I quite like Lotus roll myself, and my husband likes Dragon roll'

My friend and I really wanted to eat a healthy meal to balance out our previous not-so-healthy food choices from the week, so we decided to be adventurous and try out Nori. Neither of us is vegan, but we had a pleasant and enjoyable meal. We ordered the Chik'n Karaage, Origami, Tempeh Temple, and Rainbow rolls. I appreciate how creative they made the sushi to spin fish and meat into something plant-based while still keeping it delicious. The only thing that was a bit of a challenge was the service. Our waitress forgot about us frequently, and it took multiple reminders to come back to get our order, for us to get our drinks refilled, and to get the check. I have recommend this place for any vegetarian/vegan friends who want to experience eating sushi.

Rating: 4.3/5 [Doordash Delivery] Our first trying Nori was phenomenal. The second visit was still great, just not quite as impressive as the first. The prices are on the higher side, but the quality is solid overall. Dragon Roll ($16.49): Tempura asparagus, nasu (Japanese eggplant), and cucumber topped with avocado, sweet soy sauce, and sesame seeds. This was my second favorite roll. Spider Roll ($16.49): Soy paper roll with tempura seafood mushroom, spicy toona mix, avocado, radish sprouts, wasabi mayo, and unagi. This was my third favorite roll. Volcano Roll ($15.49): Deep fried roll with spinach, avocado, and sweet potato topped with spicy mayo, sweet soy sauce, chili sauce, caviart, and tempura onion. It didn't really taste deep fried, but I'm not mad. The the flavors were on point so it ended up being my favorite roll of the night. Chick'n Karaage ($15.49): Small portion for the price. The chicken was a bit soggy and didn't taste deep fried, though the seasoning was good. Nigiri Sampler ($20.49): Includes six pieces. The tomato "tuna" was interesting. I liked it, but my husband didn't. I couldn't tell what the salmon one was made of. The rest were just okay.

You don't have to be a vegan to appreciate how good this place is. The menu is vegan but creative and interesting for people of all dietary preferences. The service is good and the restaurant itself is very pretty, with decent parking available. They have an even more robust menu for happy hour and weekend brunch and everything we tried was really exceptional.

Came here on a date and the ambiance is pretty nice for that. The food was also impressive which made it even better. Chick'n katsu roll: creamy and tomatoey without being wet. The tomato texture is very much like tuna. 3.75/5 Sunflower: The spiciness of the chili and jalapeño is good and gives the roll a deeper umami flavor. I liked the crunchiness from the cucumber and the creaminess from the avocado. 4/5 Nigiri sampler: Salmon wasn't too strong but the green onions were a good touch. Tofu tasted like tofu skin and had a slight sweetness. Tomato was just tomato but the texture was so similar to tuna. 3.5/5 Raspberry Lemon "Cheesecake": More cakey than creamy since it's vegan but it was still good. The fruity sweetness of the raspberry was delicious with the tart sweetness of the lemon. 4.5/5 While the food is good and the craftsmen-ship impressive, it's giving fusion which I'm not very fond of. But still, I would like to come back and taste their other menu items.

Came here with my friend who is vegan, and I was so impressed with the flavors. Ambiance: 5/5: cute small restaurant, with an intimate vibe. Food: 5/5: We had 2 sushi rolls that were packed with great flavors. Also had the edamame and the chick'n karaage and I could not stop eating them. For dessert we had the Belgian chocolate cake which was so yummy too. Drinks: 5/5: my friend appreciated that they had espresso martinis since she cant have them in many places. Service:4.5/5: service was great and the waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. Only thing to point out is they brought out the dessert when we were still working on our main dishes. Cant wait to come back

We came here on a weekend night and were so glad we did! This had to be some of the best vegan food we've had in a long while. It was our first time having Japanese vegan food, but everything here is made with such care that it tastes like the real thing. We ordered the Zero Proof Pink Flamingo, Brussels sprouts, volcano roll, spicy tan tan ramen, curry with eggplant, edamame gyoza, and the Buddha Roll to-go. Everything here was just amazingly made! It is amazing that everything here is vegan yet has so much flavor. We started off with the Volcano roll, which really did just have a punch and all the right sauces. Our favorite dish was probably the Japanese Curry with eggplant, which was breaded and fried well. The spicy tan tan ramen also had a lot of good flavor with fresh noodles. The food came out very fast and our server came to check in on us every so often. The ambiance was also very nice -- dim and on the smaller side, but it felt like a bar and higher end restaurant, even though it's a basic restaurant with a small parking lot. This place was so good we almost came back during our short stay in Austin. However, there were many other places to try and this place can be difficult to get a reservation, so definitely try to book your reservations early.

    destroyed curry

fantastic menu everything was insanely good. Couldn't even tell most of it was purely plant based. Definitely pricey but gives you your moneys worth. The chicken karrage, the no tuna nigiri , sunflower roll, and the japanese curry with tofu FANTASTIC. ambiance is cozy as well. Tozai Umeshu sake was also a hit. Super sweet tho! service was also supa dupa nice from the girl w the bangs & black hair.

Service The guy working the truck seemed to be high while taking our orders and making food. That must explain why tacos are $7, they were decently large and that runny age was good. It also took ages to make and get our food. I know vegan food does tend to take longer because of the care process, but this was another level. They did not call our names when the food was ready and it took ages. We even came to check on our food a few times and it was not ready. Ambiance Food truck in the middle of an empty lot. Since I normally loved cooking vegan at home, some of what they served here, especially lentils, matched exactly what I would have cooked. The soup and tea were amazing as well, and there was a piece of paper on the table with explanations about the tea. Even on a Monday in December, this place had everything that I needed. There was a hammock outside, a path to walk on, and a bulletin board with flyers advertising all types of local events that were along the lines of healing and inner peace. I ordered a holiday cheese box on December 3 as a Christmas gift. My card was charged immediately. The order never shipped, and I received no communication until I followed up myself, multiple times. After the holidays, I learned (only because I kept pushing) that my order had been internally canceled due to a system glitch, with no email, no refund, and no outreach. I was repeatedly told it would ship on specific dates that came and went. A replacement order was finally sent in January. It arrived late, wet, with melted and ruptured ice packs, and the cheese was very soft to the point my friends weren't sure it was safe to eat. The box also lacked the gift note that was supposed to be included. What bothers me most is that my card would have stayed charged indefinitely if I hadn't chased this down myself. That's not okay especially for perishable food. It's a real shame, because the product itself is great. But based on this experience, I can't recommend ordering gifts or anything time-sensitive unless the fulfillment and communication processes dramatically improve.

Fry Let me tell you…read moreabout FTG. The little food truck in the back of a sweet-ass dive bar called Mama Dearest. Do you wanna know about the dive bar? You'll have to check out my other review. But just know it's filled with weird taxidermy and novelty items that are one of a kind. But I digress. Back to the food. I would like to tell you I tried everything on the menu as many times as I came here. But alas, only four or five things. Unfortunately, their pierogies are the best thing I've ever had. Not just in Austin, but ever. I am now desperately seeking pierogies that rival FTG's. It's not just the pierogies themselves... but the sauce, it would make angels sing. Every time I tried something new, my heart would long for the pierogies. I finally gave in to my desires and quit trying other new things. I think next time I go back I'm just going to ask strangers if I can have a bite of their food, so I can say I've tried everything. But until then, this review is for what I have tried. After the pierogies. My next favorite things in order. Fried chicken (perfectly crisp bites), jerk chicken (little spicy, not dry, perfect), chilli (so spicy), gnocchi. The cheesecake would technically rank after the pierogies, but because they're a dessert I don't wanna mess up the order here and confuse y'all. The two dudes that work this truck, are here EVERY time. I'm pretty sure the only days they take off is Mondays and Tuesdays. Tell them the girl from Kansas City with a big dog sent to you. Lastly. Know that you won't find this place overrun with college kids or snotty hipsters. Just regular people enjoying a good dive bar.

Rating: 2.7/5 [Postmates delivery]…read more We were so excited to try FTG's food, especially given its high Yelp rating. Unfortunately, it ended up being extremely disappointing. The meats were unforgivably dry, though everything else was good. Steak & Zab ($22): The zab, a mix of green beans, mushrooms, and broccoli tossed in salsa macha with sabayon, was actually enjoyable. I liked the flavors, but it was a bit too creamy/saucy for my husband (likely due to the sabayon). The steak, however, was dry and very chewy. Asian Style Spare Ribs ($17): This came with a 1/3 rack of spare ribs, a Thai cabbage salad, and five-spice fried potatoes. The potatoes were fire, and the salad was solid. But again, the meat missed the mark--super dry for the most part. We tried dipping it in the sabayon and other sauces to add moisture, but it didn't help. The fish sauce glaze didn't come through either. The only redeeming quality was the generous portion size.
