We had a party of 5 here last week while on vacation... First off walking in was the worst ever "seafood smell." This was very unappealing, but we stayed to try it. If I was alone, I would not have stayed... The calamari was good, not great but good. The clam chowder was good. I am not a huge seafood eater, I got the breaded, grilled chicken breast and a based potato -- it was really good. Dry, but good. Our server was great! Food was good. Had not been to Norma's for a couple of years and last time we went it was good so thought we would go again. This will be our last time. Clam Chowder tasted like it had came out of a can and was so bad I could not eat it. I ordered the halibut fish and chips and my husband ordered the steak. The batter on my fish was not crispy and the fish just slide out when I bit into it. Had 4 pieces and I ate one but could not finish since it was so gross. My cats loved it. My husband's steak was good but as it was a few years ago the baked potato was really small and they overcooked it so it was crunchy. Do not recommend this place. read more

The clam chowder deserves 50 stars. I loved it so much that next time I visit Seaside I might bring a cooler to transport a vat of it to my home to eat for every meal. I was pretty disappointed with the Captain's Platter. It advertised a"delectable seafood medley of halibut, salmon, calamari, prawns, scallops and oysters." The server said the choices were fried, grilled, blackened, or sautéd in butter. I chose butter. It was overcooked and for $38 at a seaside restaurant, I hoped it would be better. The best part of this place was the clam chowder and the oysters on the half shell. We also ordered a burger and the cod fish and chips with beer batter. Neither of our entrees had any flavor whatsoever. We will not be back. read more

Staff was friendly. Overwhelming seafood smell. I know it's a "seafood " restaurant however this was pungent. Little guy ordered a grilled cheese. Was just great . Fries were hit and crisp. Sandwich was very cheesy. Tillamook, the best. We ordered large fish and chips beer battered. Cod. The fish was just awful. No flavor watery and mushy. My family and I have gone here over the years. The staff is friendly. The portions are generous, and the food is always tasty and the clam chowder is one of the best on the coast. Went to Norma's for dinner when visiting Seaside and it was a great place to take a break from the beach and walking the main strip. I had the salmon burger and actually was really good. The clam chowder! Delicious! And this is a lot for me to say as some one who grew up in WA state eating pike place chowder through out my childhood. This stood up to the test of pike place chowder and was delicious. I don't think it dethrones my favorite hometown spot but definitely a close second. The oysters shooter were HUGE and delicious with the cocktail sauce. The chicken caesar salad was phenomenal as well. The caesar dressing was well done. The service was lightening fast! I ordered the oysters and chowder and I swear it only took 3-4 minutes for them to come out and then shortly after I finished those the salad came out. My server was extremely nice and the other staff members were very attentive asking if I would like more water multiple times throughout my eating experience. My scallops were larger than expected and sautéed to perfection. My wife had the 8oz halibut sautéed cajun that was very good, very flavorful and only very slightly over done. We both enjoyed their side of broccoli and cauliflower that was perfectly prepared. Presentation was pretty garnished with an orange slice and greens. The included house salad was served on a salad plate heaping with cut romaine lettuce and topped with a nice scoop of bay shrimp. I absolutely enjoyed the giant bowl of clam chowder soup that I got. It was incredible. I couldn't even eat it all. And then I ordered a full size Caesar salad to go with it. It was amazing. Covered the plate and then some with garlic bread. Absolutely enjoyable. My daughter enjoyed a hamburger with french fries and the best ranch dressing she ever had in her life, plus the diet Cokes taste authentic and not watered down and unreal like every other place we go. We had a very attentive waiter named Zachary. He kept checking on us and would accommodate our requests in a timely manner. It was a very good experience. I am in Seaside for a convention and decided to eat at Norma's Seafood & Steak. I was amused at the copper covered tabletops and noticed all the water rings. It amused me to examine all the water rings and made me wonder how old was the tabletop? Any way, I looked over the menu and decided on calamari strips for an appetizer and trying the cod fish and chips. I was given the choice of beer battered or lightly breaded. Since I was looking for a light meal, I decided to go with the lightly breaded half order (four pieces of cod). The calamari was excellent. Perfectly cooked and very fresh. The menu included the option to have the tentacles and suckers, but I went with the strips because the tentacles freak me out!! I was pleasantly surprised that the cod was perfect. It was in fact, lightly breaded but the breading never tried to separate from the cod. It was also nice and tasty. The fries were plentiful and almost perfectly cooked. About a third of them were slightly undercooked, but still good enough to eat. My disappointment was the coleslaw. First it was diced to oblivion. It almost looked like it was placed in a blender and puréed. Then there was the flavor. It had a decidedly unpleasant onion flavor. My guess is there was a copious amount of onion in their coleslaw. The staff was friendly, professional, and very attentive without hovering. I really appreciated their service. read more

I called Norma's Seafood & Steak at approximately 8:20 PM to place a phone order, despite their posted closing time being 9:00 PM, and was told the kitchen was no longer accepting orders. Refusing service 40 minutes before closing, without any prior notice or posted kitchen hours, is unacceptable. If the kitchen closes earlier than the stated business hours, that information should be clearly communicated to customers. Advertising one closing time while effectively shutting down service well before that is misleading and inconsiderate. I understand that staffing issues can happen, but that does not justify a lack of transparency or turning customers away during normal operating hours. This reflects poorly on management and creates a frustrating customer experience that could easily be avoided with clear and honest communication. read more

Mymymy...so last time was meh...this time worse. Ordered salad with no shrimp...even asked if it was pre-made as I'm allergic. Out comes salad w shrimp in a cup. Shrimp is hanging out onto the lettuce. Server says Oops and takes the cup off the plate. Wow. Look over the contamination. Then my BLUE RARE steak comes out medium.
