I think it would be better if they served it unsweetened (or lightly sweetened) and let customers adjust the sugar to their own taste. I really wanted to enjoy this place because the ambiance is so charming, but the food just didn't live up to the experience.

So my buddy and I run out for a late night meal. The problem is that we work in Santa Ana and there's few places open at that time. The place was not too far so we looked at Yelp and saw that is was still open! Hooray for the Open Now feature on Yelp! Now the place looked like an old IHOP, torn out and then half redecorated. I was especially a fan of the electronic scanning devices that the waiters and waitresses had to use to key in. The entire evening was a success. I got the chicken fried steak dinner size. It was huge. I ate it for lunch today. The best part about it was that it was actually fresh and not frozen reheated from the microwave. The gravy was good, a little thick so they must have put condensed milk in it or something. The best part was that it was very reasonably priced even though the whole spot was the only thing open at the time. The service was great - it was actually full of young people working and not the older crowd that usually works a diner type joint like this. The whole place was pretty full considering we were eating at like 11pm. The staff was friendly and even though the people there were really busy they still remained really nice. I'd have to agree that not all Norms are created equal. This place wasn't up to par to what a few of the people that I know eat at a Norms pretty often. If anything it was subpar to the expectations that I even placed upon this meek establishment. It was around 9 am on a Monday, so there wasn't much of a bustle, but there certainly were a few customers eating here. The service was attentive and very kind to hear our requests, but there is just something going on in the kitchen that I can't place my thumb on. For whatever reason, the food just isn't cooked properly. I asked for my steak to be medium rare. Not well-done, not medium, but medium rare. The majority of the puny sliver of meat was a tough well-done, while parts of it looked medium and others a cold rare. The exterior of the meat was shriveled up and was burnt. I can only think that their cooking surface must not be tuned properly, and has hot spots. Just my two cents. read more

I can not make this crap up! We are in a pandemic where covid is spread by germs Went into norms tonight ordered the usual but the steaks arrived nasty. They tasted bad. I have been to Norms many times with a positive experience. This time not so much. After my husband and I both agreed our steaks didn't taste right. We let the manger know, she replaced our meals with something else. But offered it to go which was though was weird. Poeple were still dining in. We took our meals to go. She made sure to tell us, the cook and her both ate a bite of each steak (I spit my food out on the steak prior to This the one she tried) and told us they both tasted fine and maybe it's a taste bud thing that my husband and I both have. I am truly a fan of Norm's! A friend recommended it while we were in town at Disneyland. We got tired of eating at Denny's. This place is similar to Denny's, but 100x better with cheaper prices. Another plus is that this place is open 24 hours. Need steak and eggs at 2am? They got you covered! The only negative thing I would ever have to say about this place is that their ranch for their salads is really runny/watery. But if that is the worst that this place has, you shouldn't have to worry. The staff, the food, the prices, and the kick back diner feel makes this a must-stop every time we are in town. I wish they would expand to our hometown, but if they did that, I guess the place would lose it's "family owned" feeling. read more

I went to the Norms Restaurant in Orange (Tustin Ave) to use my rewards for dinner. I ordered the New York Steak and Shrimp and a Iced Tea. It took forever for the Waitress to bring me the Iced Tea, Soup and a Disgusting salad (just leafs and dressing). I ordered medium rare and the Steak arrived medium at best and barely warm. It looked nothing like the photo in their menu. The dirty dishes were left on the table. The waitress took my order and delivered the meal. That was the last time I saw her. Only two employees working and my waitress did double duty as the Cashier. I got no refills on the iced tea or any assistance to voice my concerns. This special location runs by full of lazy and unwelcome waitresses. I took my family for a dinner on a Thursday night. As soon as I walked into this place, there were no greetings or host to lead us to a table for 10 minutes! I would understand if they were busy assisting other customers but there were so many empty seats everywhere which actually pissed me off more. Long story short, I would never go back to this place and I DO NOT recommend this place to you all. I had my coffee and newspaper and a breakfast which was unexceptional, but typically "American". What I enjoyed, however, was the restful music which played in the restaurant. If you come here, you have to get the pancakes and potatoes. The pancakes are hands-down incredible--super fluffy, golden, and they soak up syrup perfectly. This was ordered today around 11 am in the drive thru. The employee who initially took our order…read morewas short and came across as rude and unhelpful. We ordered multiple meals, but she did not ask for our drink selections before walking away. We had to ask her to come back to our car so we could finish our order. She also did not repeat the order back to us until we specifically asked her to do so, which left us concerned that it had not been entered correctly. When we reached the payment window, the employee there repeated our order back to us very quickly, and several parts of it were incorrect. We essentially had to go through and reorder or correct everything at the window. At the pickup window, our order was again not reviewed with us. We were simply asked if we had ordered four burgers, even though each burger was different and we had ordered meals that also included fries and drinks. Unfortunately, the food itself was also disappointing. We understand that food may cool down somewhat during the drive home, but both the burgers and fries were already cold and tasted as though they had been sitting for quite some time. Overall, the entire experience felt rushed, disorganized, and unwelcoming. The employees we interacted with were not helpful or friendly, and there were multiple opportunities for our order to be incorrect because it was not properly confirmed.
