The portion was generous, the eggs were cooked perfectly, and the coffee was exactly what diner coffee should be--served in those classic small mugs that somehow make every refill taste better. I sat at the counter as I was a party of one. I'm devastated that I have to leave a 3-star review as my omelette was undercooked and the cheese came out to me unmelted. It's like someone just threw some shredded cheese on my eggs and said "here you go". I think food should be checked before it's sent to customers. Additionally, my fruit was very hard, left in the fridge for far too long. Only my cold brew and hotcakes were the saving grace! I'd return to give this location another whirl, they're understandably busy on a Sunday morning in May. However, you can't dip in quality even in the face of high-stress environments. What a blast from the past. This Norms was my very first job. I forgot who the manager was before Brian, maybe Steve (gosh I'm getting old). Surprised to see many familiar faces and one of the chefs now was a busser/dish washer when I was working there. Happy to see improvement and higher positions filled from within. Norms has changed alot; for the better. Little tablet kiosks at the tables, revamped menus...they even sell merchandise. My partner loves mother effingggg norms. I've never been much of a Dennys, ihop or Norms type of guy but if I had to choose between the 3 I'd definitely go with Norms. It just tastes better and is less like, idk shitty? Plus it's a local legendary establishment, I think it's originally from Hollywood / Los Angeles. The best thing here are the pancakes, after revisiting this restaurant 3 Times recently I prefer the breakfast fare over the other items. One question though, why are the claw machines with the stuffed goodies always broken or out of service? What the heck manggggg. Salud! The 2nd NORMS that I have been to, and it is just as solid as the 1st. NORMS is the best option when everything else is closed, and a good option nonetheless. I open the shop on Halloween night. It was extremely busy and I had to admit they maintained their concentration. They didn't let the stress get to them and they managed to carry themselves through, but I had to try something new on the menu the crisp apple pie and of course you added a scoop of vanilla ice cream and get it warmed up. I swear to God I should've ordered two slices. This is so good. I sat at the counter and enjoyed my cup of coffee. They're going to be a lot of specials to try in November but this location is different than the one I usually go to, but the service is equal to the same and everybody is really friendly... Our server Dulce and the Manager Sunday were very helpful and attentive. We came in with a party of over 20 even though we called earlier and ended up showing up with more people. They were able to seat us all near each other and were able to attend to us in a timely manner. Not only did they accommodate with our large size they were able to split our checks. Even when the food was taking a little bit to come out because we ended up coming in with a group of 30, in an already busy restaurant, they came out with a great attitude and were very accommodating. As a server I truly appreciate the way both Dulce and Sunday handle our situation. They were very nice and very helpful. Me and my family have been coming here for YEARS we have always liked the food, I don't know what happened this time but the food was terrible my moms steak was so hard and pure muscle/nerve, my steak was burnt and tasted like charcoal. Some food came out cold and others just tasted terrible. The service was also bad our waitress hardly came to check on us and took forever to bring drinks. Absolutely disgusting service we talked to the manager to try and resolve the issue she was rude as hell. She tried accusing my mom of sending food back to try and get a free meal when that is not what happened at all my mom has been going there for 28 years and this is the FIRST time she is unsatisfied with her food. My sister didn't even eat her food because of how bad it tasted but we were still charged for it. Deborah was absolutely amazing. My husband, father in law and I came on a Saturday at 3am. She was the only waitress working and had 5+ tables in two separate sections due to the cook placing people while she was away from the register. Which is wrong of the cook. The cook had no right to do that to Deborah. She has a beautiful smile, didn't show any panic, and personality while being under stress. The music is always good at norms. The food was good as well. This was one of my only options, by the time I got out of work, as my body was begging me please, no more tacos or fast food. So I wasn't expecting much. I chose this over a Denny's or ihop, given it had a selection of chile verde, carnitas, chilaquiles, etc. I wasn't blown away by the food, but I liked having other options. However, I think our server, Alejandro, was spectacular. Super sweet, efficient, and the epitome of what a server should be. He should be at a 5 star steakhouse! My family and I frequently dine at Norms. There's been a couple Norms we have visited, this one, tends to be one of the busier ones. Might be because of the area, not sure. Speaking of the area, there tends to be a lot of homeless, just something to keep in mind. The food at Norms is delicious, they have much to choose from, you can manage to stay on a budget with some of their items. The people here are nice, if you respect them, you'll receive respect back: kind of a given. However, please keep in mind, this place can and will get busy most of the time. Might be because their food is great, I'll give them that. But their waiters tend to forget about your table. Not sure if it's just them forgetting, or if they have a system set up. I added some pictures of different occasions we have visited. I recommend the Clubhouse and the Grilled Chicken. My family will also frequently get the SoCal Breakfast. It was my first time here and I've been hearing great things about it from my fiance, but I did not expect what they'd have. I love this diner layout as it reminds me of the diners from old movies. One of the great things about this place is that it's open 24/7 so if you're getting off work late at night or are hungover then this is a great stop. Normally we order a couple things so we can try more of the menu, but this time my finance advised me not to and I was so confused. Nevertheless I listened to him and realized what he meant. Apparently each entree comes with a salad and a soup of your choice. The portions were insane. The fiancé got clam chowder and I got jambalaya, which I liked both but the clam chowder was so good I ended up constantly stealing from him. The jambalaya was very soupy and light if you're not too hungry. The clam chowder was very creamy and strong on flavor if you're looking to eat heavy. By the time our food came out, I was actually too full to touch. But I didn't come this way to not touch my entree, so I forced myself to take a couple bites. We had a great experience with our waiter, Enrique. He was attentive, friendly, and provided excellent service throughout our visit. Unfortunately, our positive experience was overshadowed by the manager, Sunday. At the end of our meal, there was a plate on a nearby side table. We politely asked Sunday if she could take it away, but instead she told us to move it ourselves and refused to help. She stated that she would have someone else come pick it up. As a manager, I believe she should lead by example and be willing to assist customers when needed. Her attitude came across as rude and unprofessional, and it was disappointing to see such poor customer service from someone in a leadership position. Enrique deserves recognition for his excellent service, but the manager's behavior left a negative impression on our visit. I will never visit this place again if her boss doesn't make her change her attitude she will continue to make customers unhappy. read more
