We love this place, the pizza is completely hand crafted and the crust is always big and chewey, they pile high real mozzarella cheese, they have the fattest, juiciest chicken wings and they are very accommodating. The pizzas seem expensive, 22$ but one large is twice the size as Papa Johns (and way more filling) If you order a pizza for take out, they will serve you an alcoholic beverage while you wait and they are a family owned local business. If you want to eat real food made with real ingredients, skip the over processed chain pizzerias and order North Beach. read more

Like alot of other posters I' ve had better pizza at lots of places. The crust was thick and chewy and crunchy, good. But the rest of the pizza kinda sucked. In a city with Cheeseboard and Gioia, why would anyone get North Beach Pizza? Because they deliver and you can order online from just about every online delivery site. But as often as I have ordered their pizza, it is usually late, almost always cold, and ALWAYS soggy. Why is their pizza so soggy? I don't know, they must douse it with urine or something (because it also tastes like pee-pee). But I still make the mistake and order from them from time to time because their crap is available online and delivery is free (and sometimes Eat24Hours gives decent enough coupons that I don't want to order from Nino's on GrubHub). Ordered food for delivery. I placed the order at 8:30pm and it was estimated to arrive at 9:45. The food didn't arrive until 11:15. The manager was rude on the phone - extremely unaccommodating. I had to tell HIM that I wasn't going to pay for the order. He claimed that the delivery man knocked on the door and no one answered. Turns out that the delivery man was calling the wrong area code. Not my fault he didn't read it correctly. After calling the restaurant 2 times and asking where my food was, I was pissed off and not even hungry anymore. i had a pizza craving and i saw this place driving by so i dropped in. first off, they have IPA on tap. that brought a smile to my face. my friend and I got a beer and ordered the North Beach Special. it was out fresh and fast. i didnt keep track of time but it must have been less than 15 minutes. the crust was amazing. crispy warm on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. tons of cheese (also light and fluffy/stretchy) not oily, and just the right amount of pepperoni and sausage. the peppers and mushrooms were hidden below. not overly complicated. simple. and delicious. i couldnt stop eating. pizza was just disappearing in my mouth. i lost count of how many slices and still had some leftovers for breakfast. Damn pizza competitors jealous much? This place is hella good...yes it is a little expensive, but worth the money in my opinion. The same people who are complaining about greasy pizza are probably stuffing their faces with McDonald's greasy ass fries at their computer....so yeah. I don't think their pizza is overly greasy at all, and if you do, just do the old school trick of putting a napkin over the cheese area once it cools off...sucks up the grease. read more

the best Pizza in the East bay, Lots of cheese, regardless of the type of pizza. Huge portions on all other dishes. Homemade sauces(the Alfredo is to die for) Service is the Greatest!!! the customer is definitely like a King or Queen. Went there for lunch today... Chicken sandwich was bland - tasteless and not enough cheese. The salad was just bleh - boring iceberg lettuce. The best thing on the plate were the french fries, and even they weren't that good. Definitely skip this place. read more

I walked in & ordered a Medium Pepperoni Pizza w/extra Pepperoni, This pizza was horrible from what I've gotten in the past. They normally layer there toppings, some under the cheese & some on top of course, but this overcooked Pepperoni was thrown all over the top of this pizza like it was from Dominoes. I wasn't asked what crust I wanted, I guess it was Original (Too Doughy), Very Little Sauce. I was not happy one bit. Fire your Pizza Bakers & get real Bakers in like you had around 7-8 years ago. This review is for delivery service. I've ordered three times from North Beach Pizza. The first was a pizza, which was subpar. Kind of cold and nothing to write home about (only to write yelp about!). The second time I ordered the chicken parm dinner and a salad and was really happy with it. It was delivered hot with plenty of food and was delicious. Ordered the same thing again tonight. First I get a call telling me to come meet them on the street (um, what, when did that become "delivery"?), then he wasn't even there. We spent five minutes with the driver repeating my address to me over and over and me saying, yes I'm right here, I don't know what else to tell you. Eventually he realized he wasn't in front of my apartment (surprise!) and when he finally found me the food was lukewarm at best. The portion was smaller and much less flavorful. That kind of inconsistency doesn't warrant a re-order. Bye bye NBP. read more

The pizza is ok, extremely cheesy, but with tasty toppings. However, something is seriously wrong with their delivery service. The last two times that I have ordered through their website, they have left items off our order, overcharged us, and then thrown up their hands claiming it was a glitch in the website when we called. They did give us a 50% coupon when we called the second time, but you'd think we would have learned out lesson the first time... Hopefully it is just a glitch in the system, not the delivery person or the manager drinking my missing coke and eating my garlic bread. read more

So im shocked by the rating that this place has received on Yelp. Its a good place to grab some pizza, but I could see how it doesn't fit the mold of a "Berkeley" pizza place. There are no TV's located in the place and their pizza can get pricey if you go for the XL combo's. They do not sell by the slice, a very traditional type of place to go to and great for families. Check this place out, bring friends and enjoy some slices of pizza and some cold beer. I'm going to go get a pizza from them right now. (I recommend the Barbery Coast Pizza, its BBQ chicken and fantastic.) read more

I am surprised by the low ratings of this place... I love the pizza here! Every time I've been there every experience has been great. The pizza and salads have been consistently delicious. The people that work there are very friendly and nice to do business with. I'm not sure if they've changed ownership, but I used to see the owners there all the time. She was a very nice lady that use to help out the waitresses when it would get busy. I love going to this location because its not so crazy like the one in SF. I really like that place too but between the parking madness and crowds, this place is perfect. read more

I thought the ceasar salad was very good, They added feta cheese and not just parmesean. I also liked the garlic bread. We got the vegetarian pizza, and it was good. I wish I had tried the super thin margarita pizza, because i don't usually like thicker crust pizza unless it's full on sicilian style. All in all I thought the pizza was decent. The house cabernet wine by the glass was very good. I don't know who made it, but it was nice and only 4 bucks. Last night we had another family over for dinner and ordered from NB. The size of the pizzas was good - a large was actually a large. We had the meat supreme, and two other two-topping pizzas. Ingredients - mostly meat, obviously - were fine. Black olives were good and the green peppers were crisp. However, the toppings were not as generous as I was expecting, especially for a pizza with "supreme" in its title. That could be improved, since it wasn't cheap (IMO). Also, the delivery was about an hour, which is too long unless one is ordering Chicago-style deep dish (and it's actually decent deep dish), but the pizza was still quite hot. Those aren't huge complaints. Bottom line is that the pizza was good (at least what we ordered - it's a big menu) and we'll order from them again. read more

Not sure what the low reviews are about. I've never actually been inside here, but I get delivery every few weeks and it's always been good. Only once have I not liked the pizza, and in that circumstance it was my own dumb fault for ordering weird toppings. Delivery is almost always prompt, even on weekend nights, though I've never had a delivery driver from here who had anything resembling a command of the English language (which is fine, don't get me wrong, but it seems noteworthy for whatever reason). The food itself is good! People get really weird about pizza for some reason. Not sure what the deal is, but a lot of people tend to expect a whole lot from it. read more

Well after my annoying experience with Round Table (see my review) I dropped them and phoned up North Beach. Wow! Great gobs of cheese covering over thick slices of pepperoni. We opened the box and thought they might've fogotten the pepperoni since we could only see a bit of one slice. Turns out it was buried under delicious mounds of cheese. Ordered pizza at work before 12 for lunch and its still not here. My lunch is about to end in 6 minutes. I called and they keep telling me the pizza is on its way that was 20 mins ago. I'm done giving North Beach Pizza a chance. The rapidly rotating staff can never quite seem to grasp what the restaurant they are "working" for serves. I get a different answer every time one of the kids that works there answers the phone. I understand that if you only work there a week before moving on, you won't be able to give seasoned answers about the menu. But the kids that work there seem to lack even the most basic knowledge of how to field a customer inquiry. Didn't you ever watch "Barney" as a child? Do you know what two plus three is? When I ask which has more ribs - the rib entree or the rib dinner, they freeze up like a deer in the headlights and give an..."uhhhh...... The entree?" *sniffle* "hold on a minute..."(muffled) "Theresa, what has the most ribs?... The on-tray ..or... uhhhhh.. the other one...?" Then, even more muffled you can hear Theresa in the distant background: "... hey Murmur... How.. mur mur.. murr murr........?" (Even more muffled response from Mur-mur back to Theresa.) Then Theresa says something to the person manning the phone. Then the person manning the phone says something undiscernable back to Theresa. You can't hear what it is but it has the inflection of incredulity. Theresa says something back to the person manning the phone that, again, you can't quite make out, but it has the tone of annoyance. The person manning the phone then comes back to you: "Uhh... " *sniffle* "The entree has more ribs?" Oh, great; you are really filling me with confidence in your answer, Jr... NOT! I can tell just from the muffled confusion audible through the hand cuffed over the receiver that no one in the kitchen or front really knows what they are talking about. But hungry and with people in my house expecting me to place the order we had decided to have delivered, I place it, against my better judgement. (I would have hung up by now and gone somewhere else if it were just me.) Of course, when the order gets to my house it's wrong. Not completely... I would say they got it 85% correct. It was just wrong enough to not really be what we wanted. They got the salad right; just not the right kind of salad. The employees there were able to slog through the fact that we ordered extra salad dressing; just not the right kind of salad dressing. And so forth... You would think that a town famous for it's university (and even on a street named "University") would be able to hire people with an iq higher than 50. I think the people that work there don't see the world in a fluid movie. They see it in a series of still photographs. They are the kind of people that don't realize that their mouths are hanging open. When you ask them something, it takes a second for their eyes to aim up at you before the light turns on and they realize that they have just been asked a question. I mean these guys are one step away from involuntary drooling. Uhhhhhhhh........ And who are the people that hire there? They should be ashamed of themselves. Are they trying to save as much money as humanly possible? North Beach, are you paying these people the $8 per hour minimum wage? If you are, you are wasting $7.85 per hour. Lastly, I would like to say that the meal we received was $46 for a salad, pasta and buffalo wings. It is not just over priced for the average food and candid-camera-like service, it was really an insult... A slap in the face. I HATE business like this. We have gotten bad service from them before, but after six months or so we try them again. Well, like I said in the beginning of this rant: I am done giving them a chance. At this point, I am waiting for them to roll up and die so someone can put a restaurant there. read more

I ordered the meatball pizza, salad and sampler for delivery. It came quickly enough...the food was pretty meh. The little container of parmesan was full of mold. The salad was fine, the pizza wasn't that good, just edible. It's nearby which is convenient, but I don't expect to be eating here often. read more

Two stars because the pizza is decent otherwise I would leave only one. Horrible service, probably the worst I've EVER had. Went on a Tuesday for lunch and we were the first customers of the day. I didn't need a menu because the server's shirt was so dirty I could tell what was on it just by looking at her shirt. She was very attentive at first but once we told her we had a coupon she only came back to the table to drop off the bill. She never took a dirty dish off the table, never offered to refill our beverages and didn't check on us to see if we were okay. At one point my sister had to walk over to the server station to get her attention. Normally I can forgive bad service but this was so over the top horrible that I will never go back. read more

I just stopped here on the way home from Berkeley because I saw it on University and was not ready to sit in the traffic back to Sebastopol. I LOVE pizza. This pizza was definitely 'meh'. It was not awful, just not that great. It could have been better if the cook would have left it in the oven a few minutes longer - the cheese was just to the melted point and the dough was a little underdone at the edges. It was the thick crust pizza style. I ordered a small pepperoni and pineapple and it was HUGE - the pizza is fairly inexpensive compared to some of the more trendy places. The restaurant itself is pretty dingy - old and molded tablecloth (pretty disgusting) but the bathroom was clean! It was just kind of depressing in there. Not an atmosphere I prefer to eat in. Manager was very rude. My order was not correct and tortellini was WAY over cooked. I called to complain and was told to call grub hub. He wouldn't do anything about it even though I order there often & grub hub didn't cook my food! I told him I would no longer order from there and he said that's fine, have a good day. Really!?! New Years Eve, and getting a quick bite to eat. All was good with the exception of the Pizza, the waitress was very nice and attentive. So the customer service was great, as for the Pizza, they missed the ball. North Beach advertises a $5 happy hour special for a slice and a coke. I grabbed a table, ordered the special, and was told they didn't have any more slices to sell. I can't say I understand the policy of advertising a deal you can't fulfill. At the very least the server should be able to offer a discount or something to make it right. Worst pizza ever? Just maybe. Worst service ever? probably so. Our appetizer came out cold when it needed to be hot. Deep fried cheese ravioli sounds great, but cold. Then as soon as it came out so did our wet soggy pizza. The crust was an almost, but with the runny sauce it turned out more gooey and slimey then bready with a nice crunch. Then to get the ticket 24$ for probably one of the worst meals we've had in years. I really wish we would of stayed home and ordered the special from west coast pizza. It would've cost the same and tasted so much better. What really lured us to north beach pizza was the parking and we wanted to eat out. Will never go back and would suggest that the experience isn't even worth a try. From what I can tell the entrees have the same nasty sauce on them too....YUK read more
