Jay is very professional, the prices are reasonable and they're from a job-price list he has, so his pricing is not based on what he thinks he can ding you for. He's done a number of jobs for me: * repairing a leaking toilet * repairing leaking drains (never the same one twice) * cleaning drains * gas repiping for a replacement stove (more than a simple connection). called to get an estimate to have a Noritz tankless water heater flushed, a routine maintenance call. The woman who took my call advised me that I would need an estimate to be done in person prior to quoting me a price. Honestly I didn't want to waste their time coming out just wanted a ball park figure. She said they could not do that and I told her other plumbers I had contacted prior had given me a price. She was the rudest person I have ever spoken to and told me basically to take my business elsewhere and hung up on me. I made an appointment to snake a clog in my bathtub and Jay himself showed up promptly the next day. This is the end of the good news section. Jay glanced at the bathtub faucet and promptly quoted my $259 to snake the drain. He couldn't even say the price out loud, he simply and sheepishly pointed at a laminated price sheet. Was is shame or cowardice, I thought to myself. Then I realized that I was being simple minded; it could easily be both. I should have told him to hit bricks right then and there, as the typical charge for this service in my experience is between~$100-$140. However, I had put off the repair for some while, and I thought it was worth it to just get it taken care of, so I begrudgingly accepted his ridiculous pricing. Jay spent what seemed to me to be a very short amount of time snaking the drain, and announced that he was finished, with no notes or observations. He then stated that the service "came with" a free inspection. He went under the house and noticed an unrelated leak on the toilet. When he mentioned that he couldn't work on it now but we could set up an appointment I had to contain my laughter; why in the world would I have a demonstrated huckster come back to do major work on my home? I politely told him I wasn't interested, checked the bathtub drain (it seemed to be working again) and sent him off to fleece the next sucker. The drain stayed unclogged for two (2) showers before it backed up again. Having learned my lesson (?) I reached out to another plumber to do the job correctly. The new plumber charged me $125 for a next day appointment. When the new plumber arrived, he immediately noticed that the pipe leading to the tub faucet was not connected, and warned that it may be impossible to snake the drain effectively. (Apparently Jay didn't understand that you need to go through the faucet, not the drain, to properly perform this task. This is me assuming best intentions on his part; the alternative is that he noticed, didn't say anything, and did a half-*** job before moving on to discover a more lucrative project.) I asked new/competent guy to try anyway, and he nearly an hour carefully snaking the drain while holding the pipe in place manually. It seemed to me to be quite painstaking work, and I rewarded him with a substantial tip above his quote. I would advice anybody with a plumbing need to please be wary if you intend to retain their services, and to ask for a quote for basic services before he shows up. read more

I used Jay to install a water chiller under a kitchen island sink. I purchased the unit and regrettably Jay and I discovered the unit I purchased was either broken or damaged when water came flooding out of the bottom of the Franke CT-200 unit. I definitely will use Jay again. Wisely I will have Jay purchase another unit, test the unit at his company and then install for me. His prices are fair. This not a reliable company, by my experience. I've waited over 5 months to give Jay North time to keep his word before posting this. Sadly enough he hasn't. I was referred to North Brothers Plumbing by my tankless water heater company, Noritz. I wanted to have a routing maintenance. Apparently I needed a small filter to complete the maintenance that Jay North did not have with him. He said that he would order one and return to replace at no charge. Keep in mind that I did not ask for free service. I have left 6 VM messages and also sent text message. I paid in full but did not receive full service. Stay away. Update Well... It appears that he would rather rant lies than admit fault and God forbid he offer to rectify the issue. This certainly defines character. read more

I used North Brothers to put in a new line to my refridgerator. Be very careful that you understand what you are paying. They have one price (in large type) for their "club" and one (much higher) for non-club members. I thought the service was way over-priced for what they did. Also the line keeps getting clogged up. They came out once to fix it, haven't called them again for the second "fix". I would not call them again and would try to find a better value. Their tech, Jay, was very nice however. REVISED 7/25/13 Today I had to have all their work redone because it leaked and caused $1200 worth of damage. Not happy. read more

Jay serviced our kitchen sink yesterday. We had a deep clog that the handyman couldn't fix. Jay was prompt and he's easily the neatest plumber I've ever seen. He put on shoe coverings without being asked, placed a special tarp on the floor before he began working and even tented his snake so that it wouldn't splatter during recoil. I called to get a quote because of a problem that our 7 condo unit was having and the person who answered the phone was extremely rude and said they could not help even though their website describes the exact problem I was trying to fix. I was trying to get a quote on a sump pump and repair costs and before I could even describe the problem I was hung up on. I had a major plumbing problem as a tree root found a way into my sewer line. I had plumber A come out and try to snake the pipe clean but after 30 minutes of struggling was unable to. I had Jay out about a year earlier to give me an estimate on replacing the pipe and decided to call him up and see what he could do. Jay got in there and two hours later pulled out enough of a tree root to buy me a week until he could come out and replace the pipe. That was a great job in itself. Jay comes out the next week right on time to work on the pipe. He did it one day which was the best case scenario and for the price he quoted. He dug under the house, took virtually no break for like 8 hours and got in the new pipe by the end of the day. I'm totally satisfied and would recommend Jay for any job. read more

Jay is the best in the business. We had him do a trenchless liner on our 80 year old sewer pipe. His price was very reasonable and he got it done in one day. The alternative was a week of work and digging up a rusted iron pipe 12 feet underground and into the public street. Would have cost a fortune. When we ended up moving to a new house, the inspector found a little failure in the liner and Jay came back to fix it. His warranty is outstanding. He's also unclogged several bathroom and kitchen drains for us and we haven't needed to service them since. If you want a really nice guy who owns his own equipment and gets the job done efficiently and for very fair pricing, do not look further! read more

About a year ago, I happened to take a business card from North Brothers' truck when they were working in my neighborhood. When my kitchen sink wouldn't drain a few days ago, I found the card and gave Jay a call. He said he'd arrive between 4:30 and 5:00 (my preferred time) and arrived on time. He looked at the work to be done and proceeded to show the pricing list. That's always appreciated instead of someone coming in and "telling" you what it will cost. I called re: a leak from my upstairs bathroom into my dining room, received pleasant customer service on the phone, and got a next-day appointment at a specific time, not a window. Unfortunately, the leak refused to leak while Jay was here. He kindly wrote up several estimates from best case to worst case scenario, and the prices were very reasonable. This is my first time using North Brothers Plumbing & Rooter. (I found him on Angie List.) My sewer line was clogged and I called him to to unclog it and to give me a quote to reline my sewer pipe. He snaked it and then ran a camera to see what was the cause of the blockage. His camera did not show the blockage, only standing water. He recommended Hydro-jetting to clear the blockage or perhaps the hydro-jetting will push whatever it is into the main sewer line. The hydro-jetting, cleared the standing water and the camera was sent down again. It showed a large blockage and everyone best guess was a rock penetrated the cast iron pipe. On the day of the repair, Jay excaved to the sewer line and found the object was not the rock, but an electrical conduit (presumably for the street lights, as my power come from overhead lines). Jay was exception in getting the city to come out that day to relocate the electrical conduit. He completed the repair by 4pm and my water restore. After all this was said and done, with the extra work he put in, he still honor his original quote to me. No add on. Kudo to Jay. 5+ Stars, I highly recomment Jay for your plumbing need. read more

Honest and professional plumber! Jay cleared some tree roots in our sewer line and notified me at that time that it appeared as though that clay pipe might need to be patched, which was going to be a very pricey repair, so we put it off for a few months. Within that time another plumber came out through our warranty company to check on a sewage smell emanating from the front bathroom (which we now believe was due to a dead rat under the house). They too looked at the sewer line and declared that that pipe needed a spot repair. We weren't sold however on the way that second plumber proposed to repair the line, so we called Jay back to schedule the job through him. He came prepared to do the work, but upon closer inspection, realized that what he was seeing in the camera was not a broken pipe after all, but just a joint in the line that could easily be mistaken as a crack. He then notified us to say that he felt as though it would be a waste of money to go through with the work, and that our sewer line looked fine after all. We were of course elated with the news, and thankful to have been given such an honest opinion from Jay, when he easily could have just taken our money and gone through with the work. read more

Both bathroom sinks were leaking - turns out our faucets were bad, he answered questions about our outdoor water filter and the water pipes under our house.
