Staff amazing. Good delicious. But the fact that they go through an insane amount of glass bottles and they don't recycle is nauseating and irresponsible. Any foodie in the Austin scene has probably heard about North Italia. It's a more modern Italian spot with around a couple locations in the Austin area. -First off I love the atmosphere of this place- very moody lighting (my favorite) with a classic feel and seemingly upscale. -The waitstaff seemed ambushed as it was a very busy night- nonetheless our food came out at good timing. Now let's get into the food. -My waiter was kind enough to accept my substitutions for Spicy rigatoni over the classic cream pasta for the Chicken Parmesan. (thank you) The portions of the chicken was plentiful- as the photos don't do it justice because it was huge! -Seasoning was a bit lacking hence my docked star :( my apologies. Just a touch of salt would've made a significant difference! And I wished my pasta had a tad more sauce. Not bad at all! Just didn't have a wow factor for me! (I did go to the Domain location though) so perhaps I should try the other location if I happened to come on an off night. I'm sad to write a bad review on this place because I generally love it - but this location needs to get their rear in gear. If I'm paying this much for food...I should be full when I finish the plate. I should have a cleaned spot at the bar that isn't dirty when I sit down and I should have freshly shaved parm, not pre shaved parm from the fridge behind the bar in an open ramekin. This is silly and a waste of peoples money. Also...if you close at 10pm...you close at 10pm. I have never understood when you walk into a place and they act like they are already closed and it's an hour prior. If you want to close up shop early - by all means. Such a nice break from the summer heat. The drinks are refreshing. If it is still in season I recommend the rose-infused Dolce Fiore. I don't enjoy gin much but this was a perfect blend for a cocktail. I appreciate the fact that I initially ordered the bread and oil with the scampi, but my bartender, London, told me the scampi already comes with bread and asked if I still wanted to order the bread. I really am a fan of this North Italia location! I'm familiar with the restaurant concept coming from LA, but I never visited it when I was in LA. Of course I had a few years in the "motherland" (Italy lol) but if I'm being honest...the pasta I had at North? Better than anything I remember from my time in Italy! I guess maybe it's on par with the butternut squash ravioli in Parma...but I digress. The ambiance is fantastic with high wooden ceilings, and meticulous table settings/layout. It's the perfect place to go out for dinner with family or a cute dinner date if you're feeling like Italian (American) cuisine. I specifically got the Burrata Anolini, which was essentially ravioli with blistered heirloom tomato, grana padano, torn basil, and simple tomato sauce. Not too sure the reason that I've never tried this place before! I've never heard of it nor paid much attention to it when I'm in the Domain. After leaving the Museum of Ice Cream (since North Italia is right next door), I saw all the people sitting outside so I said let's give this place a try. Although my preference was to sit outside, there was a 30 minute wait so we sat at the tall table inside. We started with Calamari as an appetizer. I tried one and thought 'oh my this is good. This is really good'. After eating the Calamari, I realized that was the best Calamari that I've ever tried so my expectations for the dinner increased. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan because I love Eggplant. Oh my goodness, that was the best Eggplant that I've ever had. The food was delicious, soooo delicious! My husband ordered the short rib pasta and he said it was good. We're definitely coming back! This is a lovely restaurant with indoor and patio seating areas. My friend and I started off with cocktails. I ordered the Ristretto, but was disappointed that the coffee liquor dominated the drink so thoroughly that it was all I could taste. It basically tasted like I was drinking a sweetened cold brew. I ordered the Tuscan half chicken, but they had to modify it to avoid onions and garlic for me. I knew it wasn't going to have the jus because of this, but they did not tell me they were going to substitute broccoli and Brussels sprouts for the broccoli. The waitress said the broccoli was already mixed with onions. She said they would bring me some plain broccolini which never arrived after I explained that I can't eat Brussels sprouts either, and had to pick them off. She did offer to remake it without them, but I was very hungry and didn't want to wait. The chicken was delicious, and the skin was perfectly crisped. Vibrant! Light & open! Bustling venue! A first date carefully selected this place for its tiramisu, and it was perfect! From their excellent service to all of their dishes being wholesome, fresh and high-end plating, I definitely get why this place is staple at the Domain. Their smoked salmon avocado toast was phenomenal! The added roasted pine nuts, pickled beets, pickled red onions, and arugula definitely enhanced the perfect combination of smoked salmon and avocado on the crunchy toasted slice of gourmet bread. The steak & eggs dish that was also ordered was a generous hearty portion that definitely filled up the avid and hungry early-morning hiker. And then the tiramisu...oh la la! It was a perfect sharing size, definitely connected us more over the love of desserts with its in the house-made, sublime flavors of coffee, sweet, liquor, spongy texture and silky mascarpone. It was a good surprise to find the tiramisu covered with these pearly chocolate-covered crunch balls that might be like rice crispies. Definitely hands-down the best tiramisu I've ever had. It would have been even better if they were a bit lighter on the chocolate powder, that caused major sticking to your teeth challenge. North Italia is a very nice casual restaurant in the Domaine. Whenever I choose to dine at a restaurant in the Domaine, I try to adjust my expectations. I've dined at many of the popular places there and, overall, I find them just ok. My daughter made reservations for 11:45 on a Saturday and our table for six was ready when we arrived. Our waitress promptly took our drink orders and we made our choices while we waited for our drinks. After ordering we waited about 40 minutes for our food to arrive. I was there 16 Dec. and again 8May. The first time we had to wait for over 1 hour for our meal to arrive. We had a reservation and was a group of 3 with theatre ticket p. We wanted to be at the theatre by 7:00 to be certain we could find parking and walk to the venue. Our reservation was for 4:45. We got the food and had to eat in less than 10 minutes to make certain we got to the theatre, parked and into the theatre. We ask the manager and it appeared that was when we finally got our food. We were angry and not at all pleased. We got nothing - no complimentary food or anything. Unfortunately, I had purchased a gift certificate to cover dinners, and I had almost $40.00 left. Forward to 8 May but only a single diner. I was seated and it took over 5 minutes to get a server for my drink order. At least I git the water right away. Then I placed my order of one entree. After waiting 35 minutes, the server said the kitchen was the issue. She gave me a free dessert because of how long it takes to get your food. I had more money on my gift card than I usually do for a tip, but after twice with such slow food delivery service, I refuse to go back here ever again. The server said it was hard to get kitchen workers which compounds the situation, but waiting 35 minutes today and over an hour in Dec., my money is better spent at another restaurant. read more

I went to North Italia for a birthday party and got to try some items. Food: White Truffle Garlic Bread - 7.8/10 This appetizer was amazing. The bread was warm, oily, and cheesy. It was infused with a garlic truffle oil. It was a bit too oily and salty though. It was cheesy and taste-wise delicious. The bread oozes with oily truffle juice with every bite. The top has a cheese cream that is whipped and has a slight truffle infusion. It is light. The bread has a great crunch on the edges and is moist from the oil. Feels like a guilty pleasure. Spicy Rigatoni Vodka Pasta - 6.7/10 It has a bit of spice with a creamy sauce. The rigatoni is al dente, chewy, and a bit doughy? It is not a bouncy type of chew. The parmesan flakes on top is good that compliments the sweet, spicy, creamy sauce. There are pieces of ham and sausage meat. It adds a good saltiness; the Italian sausage is yummy. It is more on the sweet side than the spicy but it has a slight kick to make the tomato sauce fun. Hot Honey Prosciutto Pizza - 8.6/10 This was delicious! I would say this is my favorite dish of the meal. The dough is almost like a sourdough, so it is slightly fermented. It is chewy, thin, and has no crunch. The hot honey adds a nice sweetness that compliments the tomato sauce base. The arugula adds a nice bitter tartness. The cheese pull is really good very cheesy mozzarella. The prosciutto is fatty and thin. However, it is really salty. The prosciutto and mozzarella are two salty elements and the only thing to balance it out is the hot honey. I wish it were a bit less salty. Perhaps add another sweet element (maybe thinly sliced pears or apple would be fun). Tiramisu - 6/10 The mascarpone cream is very light and airy. It is not very dense nor too sweet. The coffee is nice. It has good crunchy elements on the top with the wafer balls. The Ladyfinger sponge cakes are nicely soaked in espresso. It is quite moist on the bottom, but it still maintains the structural integrity for the most part. It's a good balance between sweetness and coffee, espresso bitterness to balance out the taste. Good but not the best. Very buttery; butter forward; Light bright cold taste. Service: Good service, nice servers, food came out in a timely manner. No complaints. Ambiance: Great ambiance. Amazing for a date night because of the moody lighting and romantic setting. Also good for a group event. I went for a birthday party. Feels upscaled which is nice! The staff here are so sweet! Walked in and was greeted with a warm smile. I asked if they did walk-ins to which they said they did and my friend and I were shortly sat at a table. Our waitress was so kind, attentive, and helpful. We asked a lot of questions on the menu and she took time to explain each item we were curious about and gave us great recommendations. We started off by ordering Prosciutto Bruschetta which was delish! We then split a Spicy Meatball Pizza and the Burrata Anolini. Went to North Italia this past weekend with my friends of 40+ years. They live in Round Rock and I drive in from Waco to celebrate our birthdays together. I was really excited to go to North again as one of my previous BD dinners there was so good, excellent service, etc. This time I was a little disappointed because we had to ask for bread. Then I asked for some pepper and parmesan for my dish. One of my friends asked for additional parmesan as well for her bolognese. The waitress said okay but never provided it. After so long of waiting we let it go because had trouble getting her attention. I understand that the chefs are very protective of their dishes but if a PAYING customer asks for something should they not get it? I do appreciate the free dessert for my BD as we came in on my actual BD and it was delicious. Could have been 5 stars if we had received everything we asked for. A group of girlfriends and I met here for Sunday lunch to catch up. Make a reservation, because they get busy! Although if you're a shopper, you can always put your name on the list and shop at one of many retailers in the Domain. The service is excellent. Our server never made us feel rushed and never let a drink empty. She was attentive enough for our needs and kept us updated about our food, but didn't interrupt all the girl talk, gossip, and sharing. The ambience is upscale casual but it's louder than I thought it would be. The calamari was utterly forgettable. I ordered the arugula & avocado salad with chicken, and although the salad was fresh and flavorful, the chicken was dry and burnt. One piece I had actually hurt to chew down on. We split a hazelnut torta for dessert, which was decadent and sweet. Definitely recommend sharing. But by far the biggest disappointment was the restrooms. Two all-gender bathrooms mean the wait can be long. And the stale urine smell was a big turn off. They need more frequent touch ups! So my daughter suggested we try this place that she loves. Wow-it was an OFF night for this place. 35 minute wait was one hour. It was a Sunday night and they had to be short staffed. The waiter was nice and cordial but it probably shouldn't take a half hour to get a drink. We put in some apps and we sat. And we sat. And we sat some more. My daughter said it's never like this -figures my trip was this time. One app came to the table after another half hour and the waiter came over and said, what were the other apps? I was ready to get management but my daughter is conflict avoidant. They also had run out of at least three menu items and the waiter said we were busy last night. We came here for date night and when we first arrived around 8pm on a Saturday they told us it would be a 45 minute wait but we ended up only waiting about 20 which was great. As for food, it was delicious. The pasta is very fresh and flavors were spot on. The pizza had a great blend of flavors and the crust was nice and perfectly chewy. We had nothing to complain about for the food, it was great. It also arrived hot which is a plus since I feel like a lot of places with pizza and pasta tend to come more on the warm side. The ambiance of the restaurant was dimly lit and casual, but also so romantic at the same time. I really liked eating here and it wasn't too loud to where you can't have conversation. North Italia has been on the list for a while. I finally got to try this place for a birthday dinner. We didn't have reservations but there were no wait for outdoor sitting so we opted for that. The patio seating overlooks a nicely decorated part of the domain so the whole ambience, lights and decoration was really pleasant, especially during the winter holiday season! Our waitress was super kind and helpful and making the choices. There is a kids menus so we ordered pizza for the kiddo. From the small plates to share, we picked a few to try. The Wild Shrimp Scampi came in a bowl of oil and bread on the side. I dipped the bread in the oil, it was really tasty. Crispy Calamari was plentiful and the calabrian aioli went really well with it as a dipping sauce. There was a marinera type sauce that came with it as well. Lastly, my favorite was the Crispy Eggplant Parmesan which was piping hot with a generous amount of cheese on top. It was yummy. From the entrees, my SO loved the Chicken Parmesan and said it hit the spot. The Butternut Squash Anolini was creamy, flavorful and the crunch from the hazenut was unique! My Braised Short Rib was excellent. It was my favorite dish of the night. I couldn't finish it because of all the appetizers we consumed earlier so I took it home and it was still really good the next day. I didn't try the Roasted Salmon as I wasn't in the mood for fish but no one particularly liked it. The pricing is what you would expect for a nice place up at the domain so no surprises there. The portions were per expectations. Overall, it was a really good experience. The service was great, food was tasty, the ambience was nice and I would definitely come back for a nice dinner date in the future.
