Dr. Natalie Lau, the physician assistant, came into the room wearing a mask and examined my son from a distance. She never came closer to him and appeared to evaluate his skin from approximately a foot away. She asked him a couple of questions and then prescribed medication. That was essentially the entire visit. As a parent, I found the interaction incredibly unprofessional and upsetting, but what bothered me even more was the impact it had on my teenage son. When a young person is already self-conscious about their skin, they deserve to feel that their doctor is comfortable, attentive, and genuinely interested in helping them. Instead, my son was left feeling as though the provider was uncomfortable being near him. A good healthcare provider should establish trust and a connection with their patients, especially when treating teenagers. Patients should never feel as though they are being treated as something to be avoided or feared. If a provider is uncomfortable getting close enough to properly examine a patient's skin, perhaps this is the wrong profession or, at the very least, the wrong setting for them. I expected a professional, compassionate, and thorough evaluation, and unfortunately, that was not what we received.

Even though I have an appointment, I didn't know my school needed a full physical exam, so they clinic had to do an unscheduled physical exam, which they normally don't do. So I appreciated that. Total time: 2 hours Second appointment: I arrived 15 mins early for a follow up. I agree with the other reviews below about the front desk's attitude. Both times I said hi after coming through the door, neither of the front desk girls said hello. No one said to have a seat, to sign in or to fill out any form. First time, I put my name on the sign in list and I knew I was a new patient so I started filling out a new patient form (because like I said, no one was even acknowledging my presence). Boy, that's got the girl UNHAPPY that I was jumping the gun. Well excuse me for doing what I was supposed to do. Second time, no "hello" but at least I got a "thank you" for the co-pay. I used to work in a doctors office so I know what's up, and I also know it's tough if you're real busy and ppl don't treat you right. So, I forgive them, but I'm giving them a low review still because the massive amount of attitude they hand out to other patients. Surprisingly, when I was in with Dr. Schmalz and his assistant, they tried really hard to accommodate my unscheduled physical exam and took care of everything. I was amazed and felt very "loved." There was no rushing or rudeness. The doctor and the nurse seemed to know each other for a long time so between themselves there's a type of communication that would take a stranger some getting-used-to. Between themselves, they're gonna sound like they're mad at you for just being there, but they really are not because when they talk to you, they're really nice. So, don't be intimidated. If you want to use this clinic, I highly recommend coming in earlier in the day.

First time she just ignored it, addressing a separate problem, and when I mentioned that I had come about the cyst too, got a simple shrug. Second time went to her because she is who I was sent by a GP and she had such good reviews and I thought perhaps because I was really there for other issue that first time I would get better results with a second visit. This time Dr. Rabner went into a long, medical explanation this about why NOTHING could be done even asking, "well what's bothering you?" My response, "having an open sore on my head doctor!" launched her into a steroid treatment that time. (Third visit with her was also about another issue she didn't fix, but I was sure to mention the sore again and have it ignored again) Her response should have been to explain at first visit, over a decade back, that dermatologists don't do removals from the scalp, which is what another dermatologist finally told me, referring me to a surgeon who did the initial cyst removal in his office less than a week after my first visit with him. If that had happened 10 years prior I would've avoided cancer, anesthesia, a skin graft, and a permanent bald patch and dent in my head. Do NOT trust this doctor.

Two weeks ago, I had my lips dissolved with my preferred specialist, Monica, and booked a refill appointment for October 4 at 12pm with Kelly (since Monica was out of office). I started my commute from NYC to the Verona location, but found it odd I never received a reminder -- so I called, only to learn that my appointment was never actually booked, despite scheduling it over the phone 2.5 weeks ago. They managed to squeeze me in later in the day with Megan. However, when I arrived just five minutes past their 10-minute grace period (after calling ahead to let them know I'd be slightly late), I was told I had missed my appointment and the most she could offer was a conversation -- not the actual service. I found this incredibly disappointing and frustrating, especially given the effort it takes to travel from NYC without a car, and the fact that I've been a loyal client for years. It's unfortunate to end things on this note, but I can no longer recommend Montclair Rejuvenation Center after today's experience.
