This is my go to produce store...Prices are good...something is always on sale...the staff is courteous ...and the variety of foods and customers from eastern Europe and the Mediterranean areas of the world reminds me of the neighborhood I grew up in on the East Coat...from Washington, DC to New England...where else in San Diego can you get REAL pumpernickel and Russian rye breads...or six different kinds of halavah...even the same kind of smoked white fish I'd have at my grandmother's? There are 100's and probably 1000's of wonderful foods to find here. Be sure to check out their cheeses, sausages, salamis and large variety of olives, dried grains from barley to buckwheat, lentils, rice's, and beans to Japanese rice snacks, both shelled and whole nuts to a huge variety of candies and cookies and polish sauerkraut. You name it and they've got it! .The meat and fish department has a wide variety of fresh meats, chicken and fish. Breads, hummus, various unique cooking/salad oils, yogurts, spices are ALL WONDERFUL! Be sure to give yourself some time to explore what this unique market has to offer..then choose something to take home and enjoy. Shopping here is like going on a vacation for the senses. What an interesting market! Fresh produce at rock bottom prices. Outdoor racks with wonderful live plants that are also a bargain. Diverse clientele and people are friendly and helpful. I was shopping with my friend and her elderly mom the other day. One of the workers kindly brought out a chair so that my friend's mom could sit down and rest. Huge selection of hard-to-find Asian, Middle Eastern, Indian and Latin American veggies, spices, fresh herbs and canned foods. Deli with WONDERFUL olives and yummy cheeses. Halal meats. Fresh baked goods. I drive 40 miles on a regular basis to shop here. I love North Park Produce on Poway Road! This is not an upscale, sanitized, chain-store, Whole Foods ambiance. If that's what you're looking for, keep on drivin'. It's run down, funky and fun! read more

This place is awesome and I've been going there for years. I love to wander around look at shelves of product I wouldn't have a clue how to use, but would be fun to try. Their produce is really well priced- though some of the stuff might not be as cosmetically perfect as a typical grocery store- they have an impressive variety of fruits and veg you wouldn't find in a typical store either- and at a deal. Their feta bar is fun- lots of varieties... who knew there are so many fetas? other cheeses as well- and lots of different types of flat breads- If you are looking for a specific item and are unfamiliar with this store- it takes a bit to find what you need- staff are usually busy- and not the most approachable probably, but I've never encountered a rude one. It's too bad that this market hires people with nasty attitudes. I have given this place many chances and every single time I am horrified by the lack of customer service that the cashiers provide. Every single time I shop at north park produce all the young female cashiers have such a nasty attitude it makes it impossible for customers to shop comfortably. I can't even ask the cashier a simply thing like price checking an item, or a basic question because they all roll their eyes and start talking under their breath or to the "managers" while completely ignoring me. They never greet anyone, nor do they thank their customers for spending money at this facility. The quality of the produce could also greatly improve - It always goes bad the next day. So this will be the last time that I shop here. It's such a shame that management allows employing these girls who cause the market to loose money. A damn shame! read more

I went to North Park Produce in search of genuine Saffron because of their large selection of exotic spices. At the recommendation of the owner/manager I bought what he assured me was the best saffron and what his wife was using. I paid $15.00 or $18.00 for short little stubbles of something. I wish I know her name is, she had many make up on her face. A girl in the cash register was extremely unhappy, and rude. She said you can not put these into the same bag. Mom made a little mistake because we were in a hurry but a girl in the cashier made a big deal. She had to say something instead of smiling. Then my mom pushed a cart foward. She had to say "I have to scan that rice", (I was thinking of course just scan it, why she had to say something useless, and acted sassy). At the end, I paid the grocery but she chit chat to the other worker. She was not putting the items into a shopping cart at all. The items left on the counter. My mom who is 76 yrs old was putting the items into a cart without her help. She supposed to finish her job. Oh...yes, I finally had to say something to her then! If I didn't say anything she wouldn't put the items into a shopping cart and let my mom n myself put them in. Anyway all done then I parked my cart to get some food that I ordered and paid. Oh dear, yes she had to say something again! Nagged nagged nagged. Annoyed, silly and unprofessional. Felt we were a victim. Wow. I hate to say this...the worst cashier girl ever!! Im cool but no one messed up and disrespect my mother. I wondered why that girl was acted unfriendly. Is it because my Mom was wearing a hijab to cover her hair. I don't know. That girl was not please the customer at all. To top it off....she came to the parking lot where I parked my car. She said that I was having a bad day. Wow...you take it too personal, missy. I am a happy person. Oh what a pity girl. Go wipe your make up and work somewhere else that does NOT involve customer services. I wish I had the time to talk to the owner. OMG. If you're into 10lb for 1$ kinds of produce, this place is got your name written on it. But, if you don't like getting pushed around by violent shoppers and find nasty floor tiles a turn off at your grocery store, you might night be a big fan of this place...the isles are so tight you can't have two carts pass each other...but price matters, so I give them 3 stars (barely). read more

Extremely rude cashiers, too busy on her Cell Phone & yapping in Arabic with her girlfriend to help myself & the THREE other people in line behind me. The prices are no better than Sprouts or Henry's & the attitude of the staff is as if they were doing you a favor to shop there. This @ the El Cajon store. Most "Family Run" stores don't operate this way. These cashiers, family or not should be replaced. read more

When I need to shop for groceries I love to stop by at the North Park Produce. Personally I enjoy the international ambience when I go inside and see a large variety of assorted candy, fresh-clean & cheap meat, teas, candy and pastries, cheeses, oils, and etc. I especially love the fact that there is an entire aisle just dedicated for tea. The tea is amazingly good! (I suggest you try the Jasmine infused Green tea). Other than that, the produce is fresh and not really expensive at all. The foreign music overall makes the shopping experience even better because you really feel like you are in an international store. In addition, if you're looking for good candy there, try the pomegranate Turkish Delight with pistachios or the Damlas (Soooo goood). The most convenient thing is that there is a Middle Eastern restaurant that is adjacent to the store itself and you can grab an excellent authentic meal there with free tea. The restaurant is really good, but I have to agree on the fact that it is a bit pricey but other that everything else is fine (try this green dish with meat called gormeh-sabzi with tandoori bread if you want an authentic Persian dish to try.) With the Russian, Italian, Persian, Mexican. Arab, Indian, and many more other fascinating and delicious products, this is by far one of my favorite stores to get groceries. read more

The rating "Eek! Methinks not" sums it up. I ran in here one day because I was out of milk and I had a screaming 1 year-old. Holy moley this place is DIRTY!!!! I was absolutely appalled at how filthy this place was! To calm down a screaming baby I would have paid $5 for a gallon of milk haha. But I'm sorry, I can't buy my baby's milk from a place that smells like body odor, floors that look like they haven't seen a mop in months, produce with flies all over them, and a milk cooler located next to the butcher's counter. They recently opened a grill/bakery which is adjoined to the grocery. My husband and I had the ground beef kabob and the chicken breast kabob...YUMMY! Each entree comes with salad, rice and bread, great portions and under $10. Will be returning here regularly!! read more

Love this place for its prices on produce and variety of middle Eastern and South Asian pantry staples but still despise the fact that their produce is always on the edge of expiration. I love this store! They have EXCELLENT produce ~ my favorite are the yummy persian cucumbers. The prices are good and the selection is varied. It's like stepping into a local market in Europe (and I've never been to Europe). It"s not really dirty- it's just there aren"t any frills added. Sure there are times produce looks bad- so go down to Vons and pick up what you didnt find appealing. Its like a thrift shop- some days you walk out with great finds, other times, maybe just settle for the fantastic olives and feta cheese that will never disappoint you,oh, and fresh mideastern breads daily, and great halvah, and my favorite of any type-their fresh made salsa (99 cents a container!), and great greek yogurt, and tons of spices. I've been going to North Park Produce for years. In the past, I really enjoyed their fresh produce for a very reasonable price. However, lately it has been hit and miss with the quality of fruits. For example, I just bought a watermelon and it was completely rotted inside. Also, the kiwi fruit that I usually get from them have just been so tart and dry. Hopefully the quality of their produce will improve or I may have to go somewhere else. read more

This place is filthy, products and workers if there is any. Design Hard to find what you are looking for, they move things around all the time. Shelving Unorganized, nothing almost in its place, wrong tags on the wrong item you will be surprised when you go to the cashier and pay for it. Clean Dirtiest produce store in the area. Produce Grade D (Damaged) Carts They let the customer's use the neighbor's or their damaged nasty carts. Service I don't see a service in this store at all. Over charge you YES they do some times because the products not tagged and priced right, the cashier puts their own price. And they change their prices a lot be careful. How old is the food Don't know when we buy something like frouts or vegetables from them the next day or the day after the food goes bad, if it's from the deli you have to eat it in the store. Cashiers Check your receipt before you leave the store you maybe surprised. Manager Busy with other things, can't help you with anything sometimes you feel he doesn't need your business if not all the time. Ordered a Greek salad last week, generous portion. Wife just went in to buy dinner and the same salad for $6.99 came home and the salad portion is enough for two side salads. Portion was half the previous times and called to speak with a manager. The end result they did not care. Will take my business to where I am valued as a customer. read more

In January I purchased cream cheese from the refrigerated section at NPP. When I got home and started cooking using cream cheese I noticed that it tastes very bitter. Checked the expiration date and the product expired over 2 months ago. I took it back to the store and got a refund. Few weeks later I noticed that the store still has not removed that expired cream cheese from the shelves. So next time I went shopping to NPP I checked expiration dates on every packaged item I bought. One of the items was Zergut brand Bulgarian feta cheese. Last night I opened cheese and had few bites. I noticed that it tastes some what bitter, like the spoiled cheese I bought from the store last month. Immediately I through it away. However, even the small amount I ate was enough to cause bad food poisoning ( I have not eaten anything else but the feta cheese so I know for sure my symptoms were caused by this products). Please be careful when you shop at this market and 1. always check expiration dates; 2. avoid purchasing dairy products from them. read more

I pretty much visit north park produce in poway every 1-2 weeks dependn gon what I need. I know their produce is always fresh and they are typically cheaper than what you can get at the commercial grocery stores like Vons or Ralphs. I also get most of my herbs here too, they are a fraction of the cost that you would normally pay at the stores aforementionned (that's a word, right?) For example, cilantro is usually 5 for $1 or 4 for a $1. Anyway, it's a pretty good ethnic food store as well, you can find an assortment of dried spices and don't be shy to try something new. There are a few items that are in a different language but the people there are pretty nice and will tell you what it is and what it's used for. Although I have not bought any of their meats I have bought some of their olives and cheeses and have been impressed by the taste and price. It's just a great place to check out stuff that you would normally find in other grocery stores. read more

so far everything is good and organize and clean but the produce price went up to much and the item it's not good quality and the only thing is bothering me and my friend there is employe work in grocery he always smell alcohol and this is Illegal and i talk to one employe about that to talk to the manager about him but i came back in Wednesday and nothing change he has a bad smell too so am not coming back again ether my friend. read more
