Our appointment was on May 3,2024. Jim, technician arrived as scheduled. I met him at the front door and he was very polite and well informed. He was here for the routine spring service per our contract. This is I believe the third time we had Jim and would be glad if he came the next time. Basically the technician Kevin with North Star ripped me off and sabotaged my system. $90 just to show up 1 mile from their shop. He worked on the outside wiring and then he had me turning a breaker off in my garage when the breaker on the unit was the same point, eclectically. He also said he changed the transformer and mentioned that the defrost unit had issues. i went to look at that and found he had disconnected it and put a fuse between 2 of the wires. he said i should call and schedule a service call to repair the defroster board. my original problem was a blown 5 amp fuse. which i found out is usually the wiring going to the outside unit. DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE. that's what i tell my neighbors. read more

I wouldn't use them unless you want shoddy work at a small fortune. Paid them a lot of money to redo heating/cooling in a 30 year old home undergoing a lot of renovation. They were suppose to solve some of the imbalance of the systems (4, one on each floor or so it was suppose to be). We had added units over the past 30 years but some did two floors and wanted to put each floor on their own unit. Said they were going to do it but NO. Under house they left sagging and I mean sagging flex ducting, some with holes. They randomly put sizes of vents in rooms without any thought or calculation. Northstar is not a trustworthy company as the other reviews show. Toward the end of 2019 NS installed a bunch of defective thermostats. When they did not work, NS charged an excessive labor fee to have a tech spend ten minutes to correct the problem. NS got the manufacturer to swap a new bunch of thermostats for the defective ones but did inform its customers about the problem or switch out the defective ones. Finally after my third problem their tech admitted the problem and said he was switching out thermostats about one a week, I complained but NS would not refund more than $340 in labor fees to correct the problem NS caused. Reliable businesses should inform customers about product defects and correct them without further costs. read more

Do not use this company. Came out twice to fix my furnace and could not figure out what was wrong. Called them to come back and they made an appt with me for today (11/18) and I waited all day (8:30-4:30) ... no call, no follow up... ridiculous... I called another company and they are coming tomorrow and also offered space heaters. Again... I do not recommend and urge everyone to not use North Star. read more

So, long story short. My HVAC DIED!! Went completely out and it was during the 100 degree weather for the next 3 days. North Star Heating & Air was there the next day after I got a quote from Anthony. North Star showed up and immediately started work on my dead unit. Victor and Ben worked 12 straight hours getting my system installed. They worked through the worst heat conditions and never a complaint, very respectful and always with a smile. Took the time to make sure it was done perfectly and did NOT cut any corners. My HVAC is absolutely amazing, I have cool air flowing in ALL of my house, never had it before from the cheap unit that was installed prior. I have to set my thermostat higher because I'm now FREEZING. I called another company whom never returned my call. I was thrilled to have North Star out so quickly and install the new unit within record time! Thank you thank you thank you!!!! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I had North Star come out to service my AC unit. They came out to fix the AC unit that was not blowing cold air and the technician did not replace the upper door of the circuit control board when finished. This door protects the control panel from weather and debris. Because it was not replaced it caused the control panel to catch fire. Had North Star back out to look at the damage and they charged extra for the service visit, did not fix the unit (claimed they could not find the replacement part) and attempted to sell me a brand new unit (over $5K). Found the replacement part myself and had Scott come out and fix everything for $549. AC works great!! Went back to owner explained the scenario and he was rude and unprofessional. Talked to me like I did not know anything; was extremely condescending. All I asked was to have the last service visit refunded; did not ask for any additional compensation to cover the damage originally caused by North Star technician. I feel this company operates in a very dishonest manner and lacks any type of integrity. AGAIN DO USE THIS COMPANY! read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY, YOU WILL BE SORRY!!!!! I would never recommend this company. I bought a house and at the time of inspection I was told that the condensation pipe was leaking from the AC unit. North Star came out to fix it and on the work order that I have from them it states that they re-routed the pipe to the outside, they re-routed it all right. They routed it into the vent pipe which caused even more problems. I had to have Ocean View come out to fix their half ass work and now I have to have the carpet replaced, the wall fixed not to mention I had to pay to have it fixed correctly. North Star has refused to stand behind their work, saying they didn't do the work. What a joke when I have 2 work orders stating what they had done. read more

The worst service ever! I was a single woman and had a heat pump/ac system put in after Sandy-heat ac is good but that is the product the owner service people are rude and obnoxious when you have little problems the just need an answer which makes you irate-they hang up on you because you are irate! I now know why they are cheaper than competitors in the beach and Sussex area- they want to charge you for every little thing you ask-can't just tell you on the phone they have to send someone at a price of 100-200 this is after you just spent five grand! Do not ever hire them! Worst service ever and my house got destroyed by Sandy! They where they worst! read more

I have had a maintenance contract with North Star since 2011 or 2012. This includes twice yearly visits to check out the system. Often it is the customer who must make contact for this service - not the company. I forgot this fall. Yesterday, my heater stopped working. North Star sent out a technician who determined the problem and then proceeded to tell me that a part would be hard to find. Knowing my unit was over 9 years old, I asked about a new unit and he told me that could take a month. Flippantly, he told me to use my emergency heat until he either could or could not find a part. He estimated it would be about $2000.00 to fix the compressor to give heat. His attitude was unacceptable, laughing at my problem and not offering any real hope of any solution. I called someone else and they will come out this afternoon. I called the office at North Star and explained my experience, told them to send me an invoice (with my maintenance customer discount) and to take me off their list of clients. They didn't seem surprised at all and said "okay", Obviously, this is not a new situation. I would not recommend North Star for service. read more

Our AC stopped working 2 weeks ago. Jim came out and replaced the thermostat 10 days ago and charged $280. The AC stopped working yesterday and Jim came out today, telling us that the thermostat wiring was bad at the compressor and charged an additional $68 for a problem that should have been fixed 10 days ago! Jim told us during his last visit that we needed to put down decorative stone around the compressor or he wouldn't work on it. You know what? You design an AC system that doesn't have any condensation and I'll make sure your work area is nice and pretty for you. read more

The worst service ever. We come to Delaware on the weekend. On Friday night when we arrived our heater was not working properly. We called North Star on Saturday morning. They arrived and got the heater working but added that we may need a new switch. They said that if we had problems again they would replace the switch. They charged us $270 for labor and the visit. We came down 7 weeks later on the weekend and had the same problem. They did not have the part and wanted to charge us another $270 for a Saturday visit even though they wouldn't be able to do the repari. They said they would come Monday with the part and would charge us for that visit and labor as well. We decided to not accept the Saturday service since they could not complete the repair. Their dispatcher berated us and told us we owed them $270 and then hung on us even though we explained that we would prefer to solve the problem on a Monday visit. We will report this business practice to the Better Business Bureau. Do not work with this company!! read more
