I am so impressed. I called another individual and he didn't show for two different appointments. I stopped by NorthBay computer in San Rafael and John said he was quite busy but if I was an early riser, he would meet me at my home at 6 AM. Our Dell desktop computer started to be very, very slow. After doing defragging, scanning, etc., with no success, it was time to bring it to the professionals. We used Yelp to locate NorthBay Computer Systems and based on the reviews we brought the computer there. Scott worked on it for several days and majorly improved the speed. Took in my mom's Asus laptop which was not connecting to internet for some odd reason. I had tried a couple TCP/IP scripts that were suggested online, but without success, and i had taken it to someone else who also couldnt figure it out. I found these guys on yelp and called up and was told i could just come on by, so i did... 5 minutes later problem was fixed (cheap)! Wow, ethical and quality people run this place! Let me tell you why. My 80 year old father lost internet connection on his computer. His emails are his connection with the outside world now due to his physical condition. I spent all morning on the phone with Xfinity who could not help me. I was told to call windows. I lost patience and decided to bring my fathers computer to North Bay Computers where my father has always brought his computers over the years. John at North Bay Computers after hearing the problem told me not to leave, that he wanted to quickly check something on the computer. He fixed the problem in one second! He said my father accidentally pressed a button that disconnects the internet! He showed me the icon and the key that controls the internet connection. I told him my father wants to pay him. He responded, I don't take money for pressing a button. I've lived long enough to know that many people would have kept the computer for a day and then charged for "repairs ". What a quality person with values! A rare find in my opinion. Thank you John at North Bay Computers, you are raised with great values. I have to do an update here. I scanned some photos and the business that scans photos put them on a disc. When I uploaded the disc pictures to my computer I couldn't open the files! It just froze my computer, twice! So I went to North Bay computers where my father brings his computer because they are excellent and ethical. I brought in my Apple computer and the disc and disc reader. I was told that they don't work on Apple computers but said they would be happy to look at it. Well they spent an hour trying to figure it out! They had an Apple computer in the back that the same thing happened: it froze their computer. So they put my pictures in a thumb drive and then uploaded to my computer the files which I could then open! I asked how much I owe them and was told nothing! Yes you read that correctly: nothing! My computer recently crashed, which is never convenient. Since it was still under warranty, I first tried Best Buy's Geek Squad. While they ran diagnostics, if I required further service it would cost me. So I did research and read about North Bay Computer Systems. These guys are fantastic. I've gone to them a few times over the years and they've always seemed honest and very helpful, sometimes telling me what to do to solve the problem even when it would mean no sale for them. Recently, I've gone twice in the last few months because of a problem with my wifi receptivity in my laptop. Both times Jason dropped what he was doing, checked my computer at length, spent about 30-45 minutes with it both times, and gave me suggestions to solve it without charging me at all. Several months ago, I couldn't use my Nook because I didn't have a wireless connection. A friend told me to call NBCS and have them make a house call. They charged by the hour ($110 when I used them) and Ryan even showed up a few minutes early. I thought for sure there would be problems and Ryan wouldn't be able to set me up but he said, "No problem" and it wasn't! My Nook runs great. My wife's computer stopped working, which meant she would lose all her data (don't get me started about backups) and have to drive from San Rafael to San Mateo if she couldn't work from home. I recently brought a Dell XPS desktop machine (running Windows 7) to NorthBay Computer Systems... after system performance degraded to the point of frustration and frequent, unexpected system and program crashes. This shop opens at 7am, which is great as they can accommodate early morning phone calls and visits. I spoke to Jason, explained the issues I was experiencing, explained what steps I took to try to resolve the issues... and was then invited to bring the computer in for a look-see. I arrived the next day at 8am to find Jason there busy at work. He dropped what he was doing, spent 10-15 minutes recapping what I reported, and explained the set of diagnostics that he'd run. Jason said he'd contact me later in the day with an update. Sure enough, later in the day Jason called to inform me that my primary hard drive was generating errors and would need to be replaced. Fortunately, they had the replacement drive (larger than my old one) in stock, and spent the remainder of the day transferring an image of my old machine to the new hard drive. This took longer than expected, but it was due to the size and complexity of my old machine's profile. The very next morning I received a phone call from Jason saying everything was done and the machine was back on track. I wasn't able to get there right away, but stopped by again the next morning. Sure enough, my Windows machine is back to how I remember it... speedy and reliable. NorthBay Computer Systems with the assist! Overall, the labor and parts prices are reasonable, and the customer service and results were exceptional. I don't think my specific issue was very complex to solve, but NorthBay Comuter Systems handled with professionalism, courtesy, competence, and speed!
