They've gone through new ownership and wow it is not the restaurant I remember from 10 years ago. While it may look the same in the interior, they now have slightly better service, and the food is 20x better. We got so many dishes to share family style and ALL of them were cooked well. Overall: in terms of food and flavors this place is what you expect from a Cantonese style restaurant. The only mark off is the fairly high price (which is also reasonable given its location) Food: among dishes that were authentic, their dou miao, and Mei Cai Kong Rou (excuse my pinyin) were top notch. The pork belly in particular was very QQ soft. The unique dishes such as lobster and fried soft shell crab were surprisingly good! The soft shell crab was a personal highlight as the deep fried texture permeated to the shell itself which was surprising. The one oddity was their kung pao chicken which was very lightly colored and low in peppers. It was fine but it did seem a little odd to look at. Ambience/Service/Decor: place was well lit, service was quick, and the decorations were typical . It's just that the location near BU makes the layout a little disjointed but it's not a huge deal. read more

The salt and pepper squid was really crispy and fresh. The barbecue pork was seasoned well but slightly dry and tough. I liked the barbecue duck as well and it had crispy skin. This is a great Cantonese style restaurant - my family has been coming here for years, and the location is a great change from trying to navigate the tricky streets of Chinatown. On the most recent trip, we ordered: House fried rice - Very standard but very tasty. Also, it felt like this time they packed a lot more rice into the container - after a few people had taken helpings, it didn't even look like any was missing. I'm always a fan of getting large portions from restaurants, and most of the dishes today had heaping helpings. Chicken pan fried noodles - This was very good, but probably not the best for takeout. In the restaurant, it's served with the sauce on top so some of the noodles get softer while the rest is nice and crispy, but when you do takeout they package the sauce and the noodles separately, which makes sense. However, it results in the noodles being overly crispy (if that's possible) and hard to break apart into smaller portions. Still, it's the best way to package this for takeout and the taste is amazing. This is my favorite dish. Beef chow foon (dry wide rice noodles) - Always a classic - these noodles are bouncy and chewy and the beef is nice and tender. Really good wok flavor on these noodles - we get this almost every time. Braised beef - This normally comes with radish, but the restaurant was out of radish on this particular day. Instead of giving us a smaller portion, they loaded our portion up with a TON of beef. This was amazing - the beef fell apart in your mouth and had a ton of flavor. And the tupperware was jam packed with meat - no fillers at all. Rice noodles - These were okay. There wasn't a ton of taste, but there was a LOT of noodles crammed into this container. This is the one dish I may not order again, but it wasn't bad. All in all, there was a LOT of food packed into those 5 dishes. I'd absolutely order from here again! read more

I was enthused as mostly Asian diners and usually they know the best Chinese food spots. Seats me at a 1/2 table jammed in ; looked like the take out food table. I assumed as I was single diner; didn't want to waste a regular table ....tea pot looked ... great tea... no tea flavor, looked watered down water with faint tea color. Ordered the bbq ribs for 17 bucks. Ribs had no flavors, minimal meat, only 5 smaller ribs... wouldn't order again as poor value... Ordered the 3 delight noodle dish shrimp, chicken, meat... again all meat no flavors, sauce watery no spices at all... tasted like American chop suey.... Carrots rock hard, not even tender... big pile of thin noodles under the meat... some noodles tender, done not cooked or pan fried too long... Not sure what you the Asian diners see in this food... I assume many the seafood dishes better. Then pay bill with cash; she rounds down my change to cheat me out of 68 cents vs. they giving me the dollar and they lose the 32 cents difference? I was incredibly impressed with this place. They're really able to get the simple things done really well. I ordered the seafood udon, and was given a super flavorful and savory broth with generous seafood+vegetable portions. Everyone in my party was given massive portions and everything was incredibly delicious. You could tell these were made with technique and all somehow had very complex flavors and perfect textures which were unexpected to me. My friend ordered the tomato and egg rice plate. If you're chinese, you'd think this dish, while classic and delicious, would be pretty unimpressive. However, it was incredibly velveety and soft as well as perfectly seasoned. As someone who grew up in the area, Victoria's was more or less of a childhood staple of mine. However, going back to revisit this spot after... maybe a decade or so... it seems a little less appealing to me - even with the order of some childhood favorites. First off, the overall vibe was pretty old school and classic for a Chinese establishment - which is honestly great if you're wishing for a more nostalgic feel. Though, depending on the day/time, service can be pretty slow and less attentive as one would like. Food-wise, their dishes were alright. There wasn't anything particularly special or appealing to me (aside from some of the childhood picks of mine), though their food was definitely much greasier and heavier than I remember. Still, not bad for a classic local food spot. Food: AMAZING, no complaints. All the dishes were fantastic!! Service: The guy was a little grumpy and really strict since the restaurant gets super busy and we only had a time limit of 1hr 45mins to eat (for a work dinner for party of 18). Also, over the phone they were a little harsh when I was uncertain on how many people would show up. I had a colleague who was vegetarian and when he asked to order more veg dishes, the waiter said "but you guys already ordered a lot of food". I walk by this restaurant at night and always see a line out the door. Now I understand why... to start they close at 1am. The menu is stacked with options. I was a little worried about service after hearing some things but our server was great and very nice! Got our long order and our food came out in a good amount of time after our family talk. All the food was yummy and the portions were BIG. The appetizers were just alright but the mains were really good. Despite having leftovers of almost everything we cleared the plate for the house fried rice. One of my favorites was the scallop, shrimp stir fried with black bean soup and green bean. I don't even like beans but there is a way they make them in chinese restaurants that just hits.... I was eating them like french fries. We got a lot of food and had leftovers and overall split 6 ways was $33. What a steal! A great place to get some no frills food in Allston. Some new favorites we've been ordering (as of 12/2023): - Canada Clam w/ Black Bean Sauce - $24.95: Despite the price if you're a fan of clams this is a great dish to have. Spice level is perfect! - Sweet and Sour Pork - $17.50: Hands down our favorite place for sweet and sour pork. Definitely recommend eating this in the restaurant to maintain that crispy exterior! The inside definitely reminds you of the Chinese restaurants you go to with your Asian parents. I've been here a few times and the food is always good & reliable. They're also pretty fast. The fried rice here is pretty good. The chicken breast was a little more dry than usual but the flavor was still good. The flavor of these beans are always great. ~First Impressions~ My first experience with this restaurant was over a decade ago as a college student. I've been coming here every month since then. The servers aren't the friendliest and the restaurant itself doesn't feel that clean, but the food will stay in my heart forever. ~The Food~ The salt and pepper squid is a must get every time. It is always the first thing I order, kind of like calamari, but chinese style with a lighter crust and small peppers. You must eat it with the chili oil. Beef chow fun dry fried is the next thing. Beautiful glossy noodles with beef that's so tender and has such a full savory taste. The pan fried noodle three delight is full of three different kinds of meat and crispy noodle. The sauce is thick and the bean sprouts are a great way to add texture. Peking spare ribs will hit that chinese BBQ craving and the black pepper beef is a great peppery taste with rice. There is also the honey walnut shrimp which is a sweet dish that adds a different flavor profile to all the savory dishes. With all this, the tea they serve is a great way to wash down the flavors, reset the palate and go back for more. Here's a list of things I always get. I have returned a second time, and I still cannot identify a single thing wrong with this restaurant! I'm pure-blooded Chinese, so take my words to heart. The food here is really really amazing! The kong choy, or "hollow vegetable" had this really unique, almost fermented aroma that's released as an aftertaste once you bit into it. Trust me, it'll blow you away just how different it is from your standard Chinese vegetables, like bok choy. The silverfish were thin, lightly fried, and packed full of amazing seafoody flavor that went nicely with the aromatic chives and vegetables! Victoria's Twin Lobsters with ginger and scallions was one of my favorite party dishes back in 2002-2004 when I lived in Brookline, MA. I visited Victoria Seafood Restaurant today in 20 years. The same marquee, with a partially removed price for Twin Lobster Special on it, was already enough to bring me good memories of my life 20 years ago. The only difference that I found inside the restaurant was that you had to scan QR code to be on the wait list, since there were so many people waiting to be seated. I found the more than 20 year-old back-lit photo of the Bank of China HongKong, designed by I.M. Pei, on the wall of inner seating area. Although we had to wait 40+ minutes to be seated, the foods were great enough to make us feel that the wait was worthwhile. Twin lobsters with ginger and scallion sauce was still the best here 5+. Probably you will find the same dish on every table. Squids with salt and pepper was also very tasty 5+. Red peppers were a nice addition to give a slight hint of spiciness to it. A medium-size egg drop soup was more than enough for two - don't order two mediums for two, since you will never be able to finish them, unless they are the only one you would have. One of the eight regional cuisines, Cantonese cuisine remains the most popular and influential Chinese cuisine no matter where you are in the world. From the simplest family style diner to the banquet style gourmet kitchen, it's all over the place and it has left a permanent mark on the culinary landscape. So for people like me, it's more of which place in the area I'd use as a culinary reference to what you should expect in terms of flavors, execution, and service that reflect closest to the culinary standard that I understand and know it to be. Here in Boston, after trying a few key spots, I found that Victoria's Seafood is the right reference point for me to partake in as well as share Cantonese style Chinese cuisine that remains the dearest in my heart and palate. Unlike many other cuisines that rely heavily on aromatics and sauces, this cuisine highlights the ingredients instead of masking it with lots of make up. As such, signature dishes like steamed fish (no way of hiding bad cuts in this one) or 白切鸡 (white cut chicken or often called steamed chicken in the US) highlight that technique and reverence towards the spotlighted ingredients. Do the chefs here do it right? Yes. Is the service direct and upfront? Yes. Are the ingredients fresh and properly executed. Yes. Salt levels. About spot on. Flavors? I'll be back again and again. I was here again on Christmas Day (as dining Chinese gourmet/banquet was the standard growing up) and they sure did not disappoint. Food was really good. Service present and very prompt. But the best part? If you grow up Chinese in any manner, you know they do things differently from many mainstream restaurants. I was late (9 pm) for my dinner there to avoid the usual rush. I ended up consuming my meal next to the main large table that they used for their family meal. As a culinary individual, knowing how this often takes place in the back and out of sight, it was special to see it happen in a cultural norm of doing so in the very front where the only seats and tables are. I'm also aware who the head chefs are as they came out to address their crew and even threw a special dish to another table who had finished their full banquet style dinner. Perhaps, this is common to those who are from it. But for those who are not and find this rather uncomfortable, just know that people like me who are in the western culinary industry but have never forgotten my roots actually recommend these spots that highlight and reference the best of the cuisine itself. And man, is this steamed whole fish worth every single penny. Came by per a friend's rec (and seeing all the stellar reviews on here!) for lunch - they have a great lunch special deal with one dish for $14 or three for $37 (with rice and soup). My friend and I ordered the pork belly with preserved veggies (梅菜扣肉), eggplant with string beans (四季豆燒茄子), and the spicy fish fillet (水煮魚片). Overall, quite yummy meal and portions were definitely very filling. I thought the eggplant was a bit overcooked but the dish in general (basically string beans) was seasoned and cooked well. Fish fillet was not bad but the broth was bit too oily which made the tofu very heavy/soggy. Pork belly was juicy and tender, and paired with the veggies (some bok choy and pickled veggies) well. As noted, price point was great, but I'm not sure if it would have been worth outside of their lunch special. This is such a great spot for fresh seafood and Cantonese food! I came with a group of 4 on a holiday for dinner. There were about 5 parties ahead of us but we were seated within 30 minutes. We ordered their clay pot rice, steamed fish, pork belly and taro, Szechuan style string beans, and salt and pepper squid. Everything was excellent! The clay pot rice was a massive portion with lots of smokiness and chewy grains of rice. The steamed fish was extremely fresh and tender, without too many bones. While on the saltier side, the pork belly and taro dish was still very good and added a different flavor profile to everything we were eating. The taro was cooked just enough so that it was still firm without being too mushy. My favorite dish was actually the string beans because they were so fresh and crispy! The string beans came in a savory, glistening minced pork sauce. Super delicious with rice! Last but not least, the salt and pepper squid had a delicate breading, tender squid, and lots of white pepper flavor. The total for these five dishes was a little under $200. I would come here again in a heartbeat. The clay pot rice does take 20-30 minutes to cook, but if you are okay with eating their other yummy dishes while you wait, it is worth the wait! read more

Great place for a classic Asian family get together! Enjoyed the steamed lobster more than the fried lobster, but both were good. Roast duck was amazing, I always love a good duck. It's usually still our go-to spot for big family dinners, and I'd recommend it more for big groups eating family style rather than small groups. They kinda rebranded recently and I thought their quality was better than it used to be. Don't come here being rude to staff expecting princess treatment that you'd get at American restaurants. If you can't handle the culture, then go to P.F. Chang's. We ordered an 8-person pre-fixe meal and it was more than enough to feed 9 of us. The food was fresh and everything was seasoned well. Love, love this place! My family has been going here for the last 25 years. If you're in the Boston area, head over to BU area and order Salt and Pepper Pork Chops, shrimp, calamari along with Hong Kong style fried beef noodles and some green vegetables to even out the fried food. Their ginger lobster is also a must try. I would have reviewed this much earlier but could never get a picture bc as soon as the food hits the table, it's gone. So it's unusual I was able to get pics this time around. read more
