The corn tortillas were still warm. I also bought the red and green salsa. They have a deli which they sell a variety of Mexican delicacies. There's a tamale bar which they have pork and chicken tamales....I didn't notice cheese tamales. I got one pork tamale to go $3 / tamale. The tamale was delicious. The masa was moist and a good ration of meat to masa. Oh and they have the Mexican pastries! Delicious. We wanted chicken and I decided to go here on a Sunday, Mother's Day weekend Sunday nonetheless. Northgate was super clean and well organized. There was soooooo many options too. We started on the right side of the store only because that is the side we walked in on. The produce sections was sooooooooo well organized and they had so much of everything and every was sooooooo reasonable priced. I grabbed some radishes and cilantro that we needed. We made our way all around the store, walking by all the meats, seafoods, cheeses and made our way to the hot foods sections. We grabbed 2 spatchcocked, rotisserie chicken (they were so flavorful and moist), freshly made tortillas (I totally forgot the guacamole, there guacamole is soooooooooooooooooo freaking good). We went to the check-out stand and let me tell you they had every single one of them open. They were busy. Susy was our cashier and she was nice, polite and efficiently fast. Great job Susy! Hello yesterday tuesday 18/25 stop by the northgate market in hawthorne store 25 to place ann order for my coworker retirement . I did this in advance bacause I did not wanted to to wait , just wanted to pick my order the next dayand be on my way...but for my surprise my order was not ready. I love this store, there are so many wonderful fruits, veggies, pantry items, chiles, beans and so much more. Their tortillas are so hot and fresh, their salsa is the bomb, tamales excellent and cashiers are so sweet. I do not purchase meat here regularly, however, I did just purchase whole legs for $0.99 cents/lb, they were fresh and produced the best bone broth! They have fun music playing there always and the store is always packed on Sundays. Great fun and delicious veggies. After about 4 years of not coming back to this place I decided to visit to grab their aguas frescas, a cake, and some guacamole and I have to say this place has drastically changed. This northgate is pretty nice! It is definitely crowded, and parking is hard to come by, but the store is clean and organized. I've been to the Costa Mesa northgate, and theirs is much larger and has more food options, but having this one close by to my house is great! I went to go buy ingredients to make pupusas. I love coming to Northgate! They carry fresh sweet bread daily, meals and deals. Now if you are looking for fresh marinated meat, fish and chicken this is the place. I always come here to get my fresh seafood. If I have a taste for fish, haiba or shrimp ceviche they have it. They carry all the salsas you can think of- oh yeah all the cheese can also be chosen at the deli. You looking for tamales they got them! I looked through Yelp for hours looking to see who had the best ceviche / aguachiles that deliver but it was almost 9pm so everything is closing down so I walked to northgate because I've never been failed by northgate, my brother and i grew up going to this market getting tamales, tacos, burritos, agua frescas & groceries. My favorite agua frescas are maracuya (passion fruit), strawberry milk, melon, & piña. The best tamales are carne asada, chile peppers & cheese & chicken (verde salsa). The yellow mangoes are the best ones. I sampled a few agua frescas to check its sweetness because it's usually watered down by the end of the day but all the drinks was bussin. I sampled the camarones ceviche & aguachiles, the aguachiles is more spicy than the camarones ceviche which is more my speed. The ceviche shrimp bites were more rubbery and still grey color. The aguachiles shrimp were pink/red from the lime in the aguachiles and the taste was more tangy, it's so tasty and refreshing. I ate the aguachiles with tortilla chips and Doritos tapatio chips. I eat tamales with sour cream (el salvador brand) and guacamole salsa from northgate. OMFG IT BUSS!!! it was still packed in the store towards closing but the employees are helpful and attentive. The windows enclosing the meat were wide open- I am not sure how it can be kept at a safe temperature being wide open like that. Latin supermarkets are a departure from the national chains but I like that because the experience inspires me to try new recipes. The meat department alone is a carnivores dream; so much to choose from but not necessarily options for the Prime lover in me. That did not discourage me though because this trip was solely for produce but I'll keep it in mind for another visit. The salsa case is a sight to behold, if you can't find a salsa of your liking here...it does not exist. I may have filled my cart with a rainbow of options; let's just say I'll be eating salsa for a while. Speaking of rainbows, the produce department is pretty decent and finding some good buys was easy. I loaded up on fresh herbs - excellent selection by the way, I couldn't wait to sprinkle, chop or infuse with my bounty. I was in the market for Hatch chilis, I completely missed the display that was near the west entrance. Saw it as I was checking out - have to admit the selection wasn't to my liking so I opted to move on and locate them elsewhere. I am disappointed in this purchase of Ground Beef, I think it was repackage and given a new date to be sold by which was July 3rd. I purchased this Ground Beef on or about June 25th had 9n my refrigerator over night to be cooked the next day. Upon opening the package a fool odor was coming from the meat, this meat was brown through and through. I cooked it and the odor was not any butter. I showed the Store Managers 2 of them and they look at me and said I am sorry but never offered any solution. Than Freddie told me they are limited on what they can give away. I said this store sold me spoiled meat that wasn't eat able. $8.31 was lost be me and my time and effort. I will not be purchasing Ground Beef from this store knowing that they will repackage meat in order to sell it regardless of the quality of the meat and it makes me wonder what other things are being pushed out to unsuspecting patrons of this establishment. This Northgate is pretty big. The fruit/vegetable section takes up 1/4 of the store.. It's not as big as some of the other ones I've been to but big enough. There is a huge meat section which takes up another 1/4 of the store.... and there's usually a wait. The Al Pastor I got from here was good. A little spicy. Also, the ready made meat section is pretty good. I came here for their carnitas and they gave us samples of the Chicharron. It left my hand greasy.. so they gave me a napkin. :) You're able to get free samples of the ready made food they serve. I asked for samples of 2 of their ceviches.. and another kind of pork they made. Their ceviche is good. I took some home..Frank spiced it to his taste..and it ended up tasting yummy. I am craving some right now! Their bakery section is not that big. There were only about four doors.. If you know what I mean. ? I don't know how to explain it. Although.. I would like to share my experience shopping at Northgate market first off I live in Redondo Beach and I always look forward to making the drive to Northgate Market. I love authentic Mexican food and a great grocery store with a genuine friendly staff. Things I would like to recommend the fresh ceviche and if you truly like spicy like myself the spicy shrimp and mango is delicious!!!! Just remember it's spicy for real!!! I also picked up last week Carne Asada that was out of this world unbelievably delicious perfectly spaced. I would like to thank Eduardo who was working in the meat department for explaining everything to me before I ordered. Eduardo thank you and I am now a costumer for life!
