Aguas frescas
Yosmar J.

After about 4 years of not coming back to this place I decided to visit to grab their aguas frescas, a cake, and some guacamole and I have to say this place has drastically changed. The employees are extremely attentive, the place almost looks like a mini Mercado and everything is nicely organized. I thought the aguas frescas weren't really good and had a bit too much sugar for my liking but everything's else was delicious. They offer many fresh and on the go meals.

Gonzalez flour tortillas so good

I love coming to Northgate! They carry fresh sweet bread daily, meals and deals. Now if you are looking for fresh marinated meat, fish and chicken this is the place. I always come here to get my fresh seafood. If I have a taste for fish, haiba or shrimp ceviche they have it. They carry all the salsas you can think of- oh yeah all the cheese can also be chosen at the deli. You looking for tamales they got them! Fresh vegetables and fruits as well for a more reasonable price then Ralphs ( my other fav store) The service clerks are fast but remember that depending on the day it will be packed and the lines are long.

Aguachiles
Page M.

I looked through Yelp for hours looking to see who had the best ceviche / aguachiles that deliver but it was almost 9pm so everything is closing down so I walked to northgate because I've never been failed by northgate, my brother and i grew up going to this market getting tamales, tacos, burritos, agua frescas & groceries. My favorite agua frescas are maracuya (passion fruit), strawberry milk, melon, & piña. The best tamales are carne asada, chile peppers & cheese & chicken (verde salsa). The yellow mangoes are the best ones. I sampled a few agua frescas to check its sweetness because it's usually watered down by the end of the day but all the drinks was bussin. I sampled the camarones ceviche & aguachiles, the aguachiles is more spicy than the camarones ceviche which is more my speed. The ceviche shrimp bites were more rubbery and still grey color. The aguachiles shrimp were pink/red from the lime in the aguachiles and the taste was more tangy, it's so tasty and refreshing. I ate the aguachiles with tortilla chips and Doritos tapatio chips. I eat tamales with sour cream (el salvador brand) and guacamole salsa from northgate. OMFG IT BUSS!!! it was still packed in the store towards closing but the employees are helpful and attentive. Love them so much !

Disappointing! I bought this cantaloupe a couple of days ago and it's not ripe and flavorless.

Disappointing! I bought this diced cantaloupe a couple days ago and when I had a couple of pieces it was hard and without flavor. Unfortunately this is not the first time I've had this happen to me, but from now I'll buy my cut fruit from somewhere else.

Ordered half a pound of carnitas..and got almost half of that of fat! Las cochinadas que venden.

Very fresh and great selection. Good meat hot and raw. Also had hard-to-find specialty ingredients. We will be coming here regularly.

Good store! I shop here often. Would love to see a bigger selection, but the prices are good and there's plenty of parking.

I've been driving the extra distance to Trader Joe's ever since to do all my food shopping and have been really happy...but tonight I needed a few small things and Trader Joe's was close to closing time, so I rolled the dice and gave Ralph's another chance due to a closer proximity, later hours and the hopes that in all this time some improvements may have been made. I was so wrong; and the decision was a monumental mistake. There isn't a single category where Ralph's is even competitive with TJ's. The organic product quality was literally disgusting and I had to opt to just forego buying two of the items I needed. The bakery item I purchased (cake) was stale, loaded with chemicals, and left a strange film and aftertaste in my mouth to the point I couldn't even finish it. The employees are stressed out and spread thin due to insane understaffing (one poor unfortunate soul sweating & doing their best to man the only open register) Ralph's prices are much, much higher for worse quality and smaller portions. The only thing that seemed like it was a good deal was Kombuchas on sale...but once I got to the counter learned the price shown on the shelf required the downloading of an app, the linking of online accounts to other accounts, and an incredibly confusing time-consuming process that in the end GLITCHED and didn't even work! Long story short, I will be making sure to leave earlier and drive the extra miles to continue to go to Trader Joe's instead.

Perhaps even a better sign was that there were many workers on the floor when I visited--not just at the checkout stands but also filling displays with fruit, checking expiration dates, and mopping floors. This supermarket is at the extreme northeast corner of Redondo Beach, and it seems like it serves a wide swath of different shoppers. Perhaps because of this, it felt like it had a very large selection for the size of the store. There's easy freeway access (if you want to call the 405 a freeway), and the parking lot is pretty large. I didn't know whether to feel safer or less safe when I saw two separate security guards patrolling the parking lot. I forgot to write down her name, but my checker was very sweet and pointed out that one of the cans I was buying was dented. She sent the bagger to grab another can, and while he was gone, she started bagging my groceries. Whatever her name is, she deserves a raise!

You go in for what you know, and that already gets you caught up, but then you also want to try something new because there's always something new to try. Sometimes it's a gamble, sometimes it's amazing and you're like "OMG! I need this every time," and sometimes you're like "what was that?" And you really don't know what it was because the descriptions aren't in English. The staff is always super friendly. If you go for hot food during lunchtime, you will get caught up because you'll want to pile your plate high and forget they weigh it & you can easily end up with a $24 plate on top of all your groceries. They have great sweet treats that aren't super high in sugar, which is a plus. Their ramens are my favorite. I've probably tried every one. My favorite is the one with the black pieces in it (I think they're mushrooms). I still haven't tried the mushrooms, but the creamy broth mix is everything. Their sparkling sodas are always delicious. My favorite is the Hello Kitty strawberry one. I told all my friends about it, and me and my sister go regularly. My sister loves the banana milk! Definitely recommend!

The thing that's good about going to Tokyo central for premade sushi is that they make all their sushi fresh daily and what's not sold is marked down and got rid of before next day compared to other markets where they sell their sushi that's like 2-4 days old. They went viral for awhile for having a hot food bar, which looked like a buffet but in reality you grab what you want but it's $15.99 a pound. The pound adds up really quick and you end with paying like $30. The food isn't that great in the hot food bar in my option so I'd skip it. The market itself is very pricey it's not a cheap market. So if your planning on buying grocery your gonna pay high prices. I'd go here for a quick sushi roll or some mochi they sell a bag from Japan for $3.99 with red bean that's pretty good. One of my favorite food item is the umami chicken karage with rice that's pre packaged and if you can snag it while it's still hot that great. Its usually on a separate table on in the refrigerated section, It's the one with some teriyaki sauce over it, not the regular one. As you exit you can grab utensils, napkins, wasabi. ginger, soy sauce. Parking is a hit and miss, it's a popular market if you go there at lunch time it's packed or weekends. Personally I drop by to get a quick bite, sushi roll or chicken karage . They do have a food court that has a Japanese bakery, takoyaki , a katsu place. Upstairs they have a sushi bar which is unique I havnt tried it but seems a bit pricey but looks like quality. Looking for something Japanese in food wise, this would be one of the places to go to look for it. I don't know why it seems like every Asian market I've been to is so cramped and hardly any space when trying to get around with a cart. It's the same here.t
