Given two stars due to the owner, Carlos. Otherwise, our first time here would have been a decent one. The wings were good, staff was polite and the kids enjoyed the arcade games. However, the games and gum ball machines kept eating our coins. We informed the waitress of the initial 50 cents that eaten and she told us that it was no worries, we would just get reimbursed up front. At the end of it all the games ate up about $4-$5 that we figured would be reimbursed up front. When we were paying for the check we informed the waitress and the owner behind her already shook his head and said we should have told him when it first happened and that nothing would be reimbursed. We quickly told him what the waitress said and he continues to shake his head and then reluctantly asks us to show him which games with a condescending smirk. Yada yada when end up saying forget it because he was so rude and condescending. We spent $58 for food and $20 in the arcade. Was told that the chef didn't " feel like " making my root beer float. But I was told I could make it myself. Wish I could do that at my job. Just decide to not do things I don't want to do. The old couple next to us didn't get their two salads the whole time we ate. They closed the kitchen at 7 but they always close at 8. Im assuming its because they are lazy and didn't want to work. No other reason why. My girlfriend has gone here before and her fish and prawns were cold, fridge level cold. Absolutely terrible. Don't ever eat here its such overpriced garbage. :) read more

We order takeout regularly from Northridge because we live close by and enjoy eating at home but not always wanting to cook. However, it's the best choice near and far because the food is always so tasty and well-prepared. BEST blue cheese dressing I've ever had, desserts are scrumptious, my husband's favorite is the fish and chips. I like the Chicken Philly or Dave's House Burger... we always order appetizers, too. Horrible service! For what is supposed to be a family restaurant I wasn't expecting to hear racial slurs being yelled out by the owner himself, and when trying to leave and make my way through the crowd with my infant in my arms to have the owner follow me and my boyfriend into the hallway and threaten us, for what? I'm not sure. I'm appalled by this behavior and when I spoke with the manager I was informed that this is very common behavior for the owner. This restaurant used to be our favorite, but within the last few months the service has gone down, you sit for awhile with menus down before anyone asks if you want water, they look away when they walk by. We went today same thing, not super busy, we sat with our menus down, we didn't know who our waitress was but one would walk by and not even look at us and finally a waitress came over took our order, mine was a cheese burger DRY and sweet potato fries, my husband had aBLT, mine came with mayo and burned fries she told me the cook said he couldn't get the middle cooked and if it wasn't good let her know ! The two of us ordered a medium combination pizza and a picture of Coors Light draft beer. The beer was served cold and the pizza served hot, but that's where the good ended. The pizza was plastered with incredibly salty sausage and what tasted and looked like processed cheese. We were both hungry, but neither of us could handle more than a couple bites. As for the beer, it was totally flat and tasteless. A couple sips of that was all we could handle as well. We brought the issues up to the manager, who was not at all sympathetic or friendly. I would describe our interaction with him as a "walk-by." As he walked passed us, he told us everything was fine and to pay the bill. He had no interest in discussion, or tasting the food or beer. Of course we paid the bill, then drove into Grass Valley where we found some good food and real beer. I live in this area and north ridge has always had good food, but in all honesty it is not the cleanest place. The lights are always pretty dim in there and you can tell that there hasn't been a deep clean in a big minute. We've been here about 5-6 times in the past 7 months and have never been disappointed! The pizza is awesome, the appetizer platter, the Mexican food dishes. Today we had the fish & chips and the coconut prawn salad. Both the fish & prawns were crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The Northridge is really great! I have completely enjoyed every meal I have had there. The specialty pizzas are yummy and well priced, the sandwich menu is outstanding and all of their menu items are hand made, served in huge portions! Biiig salads with very fresh ingredients and when you add chicken or bacon, it comes as a full serving, not just a sprinkle. Their Mexican food is really good. Great, quick service! Huge portions! This place is a great local resource. We're relatively new to Penn Valley and with few family places nearby it's nice to have a place with a diverse menu, good food and fantastic service. We started off skeptical but we've been to both Northridge Restaurants multiple times. The Penn Valley one is closer to us and not as crowded as Nevada City. We've had a variety of items off the menu, good food, large serving and reasonable prices. We were just there on a Friday early evening and our food came so fast I asked if it was really cooked! The food is great but the employees are so rude. In my experience at this restaurant we ordered something and it came out wrong , then we went to tell the employe that they gave us the wrong food. Then the employee yelled across the whole restraunt at my sisters mom. This place does NOT know the difference between pork ribs vs. beef ribs...I called in an order for BEEF RIBS....I asked 2 or 3 times to be sure they are BEEF RIBS, I was told they are....the person that took my order even went back to the cook, asked the cook if the ribs were pork or beef....she came back to the phone, said "Yes, they are Beef"....the order came to $80.00. I drove over to pick them up.....they were PORK....I told the cashier...I specifically asked for BEEF......I asked to see the owner, he came out...he was PISSED at me that I would not pay him for the pork ribs....I told him I asked 2 of his employees if the ribs were beef or pork, both said BEEF.....he still was pissed at me, offered to take $10.00 off the order...No, we do not want pork...he handed me back my money, was very nasty about it....! I attempted to eat here tonight with the hubby. Since I have a shellfish allergy, I make it a habit of notifying any restaurant that I eat at so they use extra caution and avoid cross contamination. So, as always, I notify my server, who was really sweet, about the allergy and place our order. A few minutes later she returns to our table and apologetically says that the owner wants me to sign a waiver that says that I will not hold the restaurant responsible for any potential cross contamination. Hmmmm...excuse me? I was shocked! Never in my life have I ever been asked to do this. He had a note handwritten on the back of an order ticket for me to sign. We walked out. I was appalled by his request. Meat cross contamination is easily avoided using BASIC cleaning practices. We will not be returning. For some reason, this particular Northridge restaurant is just horrible. The owner has burned so many bridges. The Nevada City Northridge is amazing and is literally like a completely different restaurant altogether. This was our last visit ever to this place. I eat here with my family about once a month when we are too tired to deal with making dinner at home. We only go here because it is literally the only place in town. It is a family joke now to predict how long dinner for four will take, how bad the food will be, and who's order they will completely forget all together or completely screw up and even bring the wrong meal, then realize it and deliver it to a near by table after it's been touched, picked at, or partially eaten. Not sure who has more fun at this point, us trying to predict how ridiculous the experience will be, or them predicting how many of us will be sick by morning. What a terrible experience we just had. Ordered dinner and waited over an hour for the first of our food to arrive. They kept telling us a cook had gone home sick. My cold soggy pizza arrived first, then 20 minutes later the kids chicken strips arrived. Then another 40 minutes passed before my husband's salad was served. The waiter announced he would take 15 percent off for the lateness. When we went to pay they took 15 percent off the salad only. Yea, $1.80 off the bill. Some tables received 25 per cent off while others received 30 percent off their whole bill. The inconsistencies sucked. Very bad form Northridge. I am giving 2 stars based on the fact that they have an arcade that my kids like to play at.. besides that, this place has got to have the worst service of any restaurant in Nevada County. Tonight was just over the top ( I go here once a week cause my kids like the pizza and video games), and I had to finally write a review. Service totally sucks, no other way to put it. Overall, overpriced, not hearty portions. Extremely inconsistent. Order the draft rootbeer and sometimes they charge you full price (2.50) for a refill.. sometimes they dont and its free refills.. I'm still a fan of Northridge. How can you not be coming to a place that is like "Cheers", complete with personalities, drama nice bar tenders? I love that a lot of the people that come in have their own nick names; such as "Doc", "Scooter", mine happens to be "Butch". Service is 4 Stars, at times 2.5 to 3 Stars during busy times. The food is 3 Stars, there are a couple of dishes that are 4 Stars--Come on Thursdays for the Mexican food. The bar tender also waits on tables--I think that if the bar tender only duties were to tend the bar, the service stars would go up and people would be a lot happier. read more

In starting this review I wanted to do one star but the Tuesday/Thursday Mexican Menu surprised me. I've been coming to this location in its different incarnations over the last 25 years and this place a couple times a year for the last 10 years. Service is hit or miss. Always has been. Always will be. Food is mediocre and over priced and that won't change. Penn Valley is Penn Valley. As I mentioned at the beginning the special menu was a bonus. For all the things that are wrong with this place the special menu actually is good. Don't come here looking for fine dining. Come here for warm beer and mediocre food. It's one of three choices in the area. If you want good food keep on driving. If you want an interesting experience stop in. read more

Northridge has been a staple in our take-out rotation of restaurants for 10 years. It's usually *fine* - not great, not terrible. It serves the purpose of feeding my family and we can all get very different things. BUT, I finally reached my breaking point today. To start, when I returned home with my order, part of it was missing. I had to go all the way back (20 minutes each way) to get what they left out and was handed a Luke-warm box containing what was supposed to be a Philly Cheesesteak. Part way home, I was hungry so opened the box to grab a soggy, now cold, fry and didn't find a Philly Cheesesteak, but a Pita-wrapped "cheesesteak." Ugh! That about sent me over the edge, but I'm still thinking, mistakes happen, I'm just hangry and will get over it. I get home - re-heat my husband's "cheesesteak" and proceed to dig into my Fiesta Salad. I take a couple bites and keep thinking something is missing. Oh yeah - there's no chicken on it and the menu clearly says it comes with grilled chicken - one of the reasons I ordered it! And so there it is, my last straw. As convenient as their location is on a busy night when I rely on take-out, I won't be going back (at least for a VERY long time). Advice to consumers: check your order before you leave. Advice to Northridge: when a customer calls and says something was missing from their order and they're coming back to get it, why not go ahead and start a fresh version of what was missing so that at least they can get home with what they should have had in the first place? And, if there is a pita option for a sandwich that typically doesn't come on a pita - clarify with the person ordering which option they want. read more

The new "owner" is NOT owner material. When it was just Carlos it was enjoyable, somewhere local where you can meet great people and enjoy a great meal or watch a sports event. Sometimes they'd even customize it for the normal daily customer and now everything is a big deal. Since he's been there Ive noticed employees and customers with more hostility leading people to not want to come around or quit their job. Out of the three Northridge's there are, this is the worst. Nevada City Northridge is the best, followed by the Combie one. If you're craving Northridge pretend this one doesn't exist. The food is not good & the service can range from sub par to mediocre.
