I ate here for the first time on my last day in Penn Valley before moving away. The Hawaiian pizza was so freakin delicious that I really wish I had tried it sooner. I was just at the Northridge seated for 20 minutes. Not one server asked me if I wanted a drink, lunch, water maybe. I left after 20 minutes of just sitting. Strongly recommend avoiding this place and choosing Players on the other side of Highway 20 if you want pizza. They also provide games for kids and the pizza is better too. I would rate the food at Northridge as average; but that's not the reason I would recommend going elsewhere. This place has the most consistently rotten service I have ever experienced. When I finally complained about it; the owner reacted with the same aggressive, arrogant hostility the other people on this site are complaining about. Basically his attitude towards his customers if they don't like something is "Put up and shut up." He caters to a small clique of local rednecks. It's second class status for anyone else that wants service. I also have experienced anywhere from 20-30 minute wait times before I was even acknowledged by the staff, whether it was busy or not. Some of the more glowing comments here are just "'ole boys club" back-scratching fawning from his local bar flies. The entire staff of servers and bartenders is made up of immature, untrained and unsupervised kids in their teens and twenties who are allowed to goof off and gossip with the local rednecks, while the rest of the clientele gets ignored. With only one or two exceptions, the general attitude of the bartenders and servers runs the gamut from lazy, clock-watching apathy at best, to surly disrespect, to openly rude hostility at worst. The place reeks of negativity; but then they are only reflecting the attitude of the management. I have been to this place about 9 or 10 times in as many months and probably would have gone more often if the service hadn't been so bad every time. This last time will be just that - the last! The other restaurants in the neighborhood also hire teens and twenties but they certainly don't behave in this manner. They may be occasionally inept from being young and inexperienced; but I have found them all to be courteous to the customers; the way things should be. So far they have managed to get away with all this bad service at the Northridge because there are only 3 other places locally (one for Chinese, one for steaks, and the other pizza place) that serve dinner. The next closest restaurants are in Grass Valley 10 miles away. This general Penn Valley area has a population of 12,000 and could be a gold mine for someone that knows what they are doing to open up a properly run place. Perhaps a Mexican food restaurant since there are none here. Dissatisfied customers that only go to the Northridge due to a boring lack of local choices would flock to it! read more

A few months back my husband and I ordered a pizza. After a few bites I bit into some glass, cutting up my mouth and throat. We were extremely understanding and didn't make that big of a fuss over it, but we went home because I could feel some of it in my throat and I wanted to get it out (I'll spare you the details). The staff took away the pizza and said they would put my name on a list for a free pizza the next time we came in. So I came back about two weeks later....my name was on no list. The wait staff remembered me and said, "They would take care of it." So then my pizza came out with a bill. They had taken a whooping 15% off. At least follow through with what you said you were going to do. And thanks for the $2.50 dollar discount for having my mouth cut up and having to go home and pull glass out of my throat.....I really appreciate it. Blah. read more

Came in a while back before they shut their doors and had the absolute worst service. The bartender barely acknowledged me and her attitude towards others was awful. I had ordered a pizza and a side salad with a beer. I had finished my beer before she even realized she never made my side salad. I said no tomato and she had made it with tomato's. Luckily I'm not allergic I just don't enjoy them. My beer glass remained empty until I she brought my pizza out and then asked if I would like another. I could have easily finished a beer within the time I was waiting for my pizza and she walked by my empty glass more than once. I asked for a box and my bill because I couldn't handle the poor customer service. I don't remember her name but she was shorter and brown hair. I was all prepared to update my review with a more positive rating. The servers have been much more friendly and prompt. The owner, however, ruined any chance of me EVER returning to his establishment. We ordered dessert this evening - raspberry cheesecake. The raspberry swirl on top didn't even look like raspberry - I thought it was chocolate at first because it was starting to turn brown. I took a bite to include the graham cracker crust and spit it out. The crust was mushy and tasted like cookie dough mixed with Play Doh, and was about that same consistency. My mom had also taken a bite and said the same thing. It was not good. I am not in the habit of asking for items to be taken off my check but in this case, the cheesecake was so unpalatable that I did ask. The server was very kind but the owner walked by and asked what she was doing. We both explained the issue and the owner looked at me and said VERY loudly, "Next time, please do me a favor and don't order dessert. No one else has complained today." I was shocked. I told him I didn't appreciate being lectured in front of other customers and I told him he was welcome to try a bite. He declined and told me again to do him and myself a favor and not order dessert next time. I asked the server to please add it back on my check and said said she would get into trouble if she did. I took my wife to Northridge for dinner the other night. She ordered pastrami sandwich and asked for a small amount of sauerkraut on it. We also ordered a salad rather than fries. The salads did not come with the pastrami my wife ordered nor my sandwich. I had to ask 3 times for the salads. When my wife stared to eat her pastrami sandwich she found no sauerkraut at all. She asked for some on the side and it never came. Service sucks! Cooks can't read ticket and don't get orders right! The owner needs to train servers better and probably add another server. Also they should have someone stationed at the front desk so when trying to pay the bill, the customer does not have a 10 minute wait to check out. Time to go to Players or the Pleasant Valley Grill. Have been into the Northridge Restaurant in Penn Valley about 6 times for lunch or dinner and have ordered a few different items from their menu. The burgers are tasty but will make you sick every time..... have tried a couple times and same thing happens. I even took my friend in there to try the burger with me and we both got sick. Pizza is good if ordered well done or burnt as the toppings will stay on the slice and not fall off. Service at the bar is usually okay but don't get stuck at a table...... food will take forever. Waitresses seem like they would rather be out on a date than helping serve food. Kinda stuck up type of girls and they are always on their phones texting someone instead of paying attention to the tables. Believe it or not the Northridge Restaurant in Lake of the Pines is way better than Penn Valley as I have never gotten sick from the food and the service is great. Hope this helps. read more

This was my first time eating here at Northridge Restaurant and my last. Every year Nevada County has an Annual Toy Run and afterwards the group finds somewhere to eat. We decided to eat here. I ordered my favorite Half Rack Pork Ribs, "So tender the meat falls off the bone" they say!! NOT TURE! My ribs were chewy and I had to rip the meat off the bone, by the second bite I was done. I will not return here and will not recommend them to anyone. The prices were pretty high for what they served. read more

This place is best known for its pizza, and unfortunately I can't give it a star for pizza. Not my favorite. Way too much undercooked mozzarella, undercooked crust, chewy, white, blah. BUT! They do make great sandwiches, burgers and salads. Plus they have a cheesy thing that is very inexpensive that is almost like a pizza that is great to go along with a salad or have as an appetizer. Their fried zucchini is really good. I haven't tried their onion rings but they look good. Their sandwiches are huge and come with a giant serving of really good fries or a salad, your choice. Home made ranch dressing that is soooo good. Excellent iced tea and bottomless soda refills. Service can be splotchy because they tend to hire young help that aren't always thoroughly trained, but I have never had a rude server here, they have always been sweet and trying their best to be helpful. This place has great salads and appetizers! I love the Chinese Chicken Salad. I enjoy the pizza too. It is a nice place for sports and family too. The only thing I would like to see changed are based on environmental concerns. I do not eat meat there as they do not serve humanely raised, naturally pastured meats. I do not see efforts toward the environment so I now eat there less often. I would like to see these things progress at the Northridge and when they do, I will vote with my dollar. read more

After reading these reviews I was shocked! I had the complete opposite experience. I tried this place and totally loved it. Our food was super fresh and flavorful. Not a bad place to go to talk to the bartender. The beers were a not to cold but the food was better. Its the first time I had their pizza and it was good. I would order another the next time. I would recommend going just for the fact they have a large video game room for the kids and it gives the grown ups time to talk. They do need colder beer but the pizza is still good. read more

I probably come here once a month, I have yet to have a bad experience. I have two children 4 and 2. We always dine in the game room(There are only two tables so seating is limited) perfect for kids to play then sit and eat without expectations of perfect behavior . The staff is friendly and efficient . Our favorite is Annie, she usually works in the bar but always takes the time to serve us. I would suggest requesting her as your server if she is there. She always goes above and beyond. My kids love her! The food is always good, we usually order the house salad.... Pretty basic but the ranch dressing is so tasty I crave it. The jalapeno burger is one of my favorites and the kids love the pizza. Food always comes out quick! I have met the owner several times, he has always been a pleasure. Once he brought out a roll of quarters for the kids to play games, so sweet of him. I've just read some reviews of this place and I was pretty shocked to be honest. It's a great small town burger/ pizza place. Don't expect fine dining because it is not. But the food and service has always been good , at least in my experience. I gave four stars, not because it's close to the best food I've ever had but because it's consistent and I always always have excellent service and feel so welcomed. read more

We love Northridge. It's one of only a handful of restaurants in town that are open for dinner, and we have eaten our way around the menu with pleasure. The Garlic Cheese Bread appetizer is delicious -- it's like a little thin-crust pizza with various cheeses (including feta) and the marinara sauce on the side as a dip. (One of the other reviewers called this "a cheesy thing that is very inexpensive that is almost like a pizza that is great.") My current favorite salad is the Hawaiian Prawn Salad, which is a way to eat big coconut prawns while pretending you're just having a big salad. It also has mixed greens, toasted pine nuts, wonderful sweet-spicy dressing. The other salads are also delicious, with fresh ingredients and a wide choice of dressings. The burgers and the hot pastrami pita have been consistently great for the two years that we have lived here. (We go to Northridge at least twice a month.) The restaurant itself is a family-friendly place with a video game arcade (with air hockey!) and a small bar that serves a basic selection of beer and wine. My wife & I took our 3 yr. old & 9 yr. old out for lunch on MLK Day. The restaurant was VERY busy. Service was a little slow, but I am a cook, so I understand why things were slightly delayed. This place was suggested by an employee of the thrift store next door. We waited at the front register for almost 10 minutes watching wait staff flutter around from place to place without even bothering to greet us. I counted 3 tables with customers, so they weren't overly busy and at least 4 waiters/waitresses...not a bad ratio. The bar was full and noisy but they didn't appear to be being waited on by the restaurant staff. After patiently waiting and reading a menu, we decided we were being ignored and left. Unfriendly and rude young girls that need a lesson on how to treat customers when they walk in the door...especially if they've never seen them before. We figure you lost out on an easy 30 bucks. We won't be back for a second go at this. We ended up on the Chinese across the parking lot, which was a great choice. read more

After an hour they still hadn't brought out our food and the kids had both eaten. My husband frequently stopped for a beer and was like part of the family he recently passed away and we went with the family to honor him after his passing since this was his favorite place. I have read a lot of the reviews and they all talk about slow service. we had a VERY different experience. my husband, toddler son. and I went to eat there on Friday evening around 6pm. they were very busy - every table was taken, and we got our food within 10-15 minutes. we ordered a cheeseburger, sweet potato fries, beer, chicken tenders and fries, and the California salad. everything was delicious. excellent food, excellent service. we will go back! read more
