I am a fan of Northstar Cafe. I have enjoyed everything on the menu that I have ever tried and the everyday egg sandwich can be added to the list. I added bacon and it left the perfect pairing of perfectly cooked egg, chives, cheese, and thicker sliced bacon chunks. I also ordered the strawberry matcha latte, and the chocolate fudge cookie to go. The service is fantastic. They have outdoor, indoor, and some community style bar seating. You order at the counter and then a staff person will bring your food to the table. There are soda and water machines available for self refills. This last visit was a bit of a disappointment. Firstly, they only have one person at the counter and the line which was quite short, moved very slowly. The mushroom frittata was a bit overcooked and the side of bacon was just okay. I thought the proportions of water to tea in the English breakfast tea was quite a bit off. My wife's coffee was pretty good. It was a very hot and muggy summer day, so outside seating was a challenge, but we were fortunate to find indoor seating on one of their bench areas. read more

First, I have to say that Northstar is quickly becoming one of my husband's and my favorite spots to eat. We frequent the Westerville location but are always impressed no matter the location. The food is delicious, we love the use of fresh, clean ingredients, the baked goods and drinks are so yummy. We always leave very happy. I have to specifically comment on my most recent visit. I ordered carry out from what I thought was the Clintonville location, I placed my order, pulled up to the restaurant, gave my name to the very patient and lovely young man outside, and then realized that I ordered from the Short North location rather than Clintonville. 100% my fault. I should have double/triple checked. I called Short North, explained what happened, the staff member was so nice, she put me on hold. I 100% accidentally hung up on her. OMG! What is my problem today?!?! I called back, she was so gracious and patient. "No problem, we're going to refund you and you can just reorder at the Clintonville location". Thank you, thank you for being so gracious and understanding of my error. I walk in to Clintonville store and they have communicated this situation across their staff, they already knew what was happening when I got up to the counter. They got my food ordered and out to me as quickly as they could. This kind of customer service is next level. I cannot thank this company and their staff enough for their kindness, understanding, and patience with me and their willingness to fix my mistake. I would recommend this restaurant to absolutely everyone. We will be back again and again. Thank you Clintonville and Short North locations!! First time enjoying brunch at this location. It was a Saturday at 2pm and the line was out the door. It was busy. The line moved pretty quick. I joined a couple of buddies and we all went different directions in our menu choices. It was cold outside, so I went with some scrambled eggs with cheese and a single ricotta pancake. And it wouldn't be a trip to Northstar without one of their homemade Ginger-ale. My meal was good, and everyone else seemed to enjoy their choices. Definitely pleasantly surprised by this place! The food was better than expected and came out quick which was nice! The pimento cheeseburger was juicy and flavorful and the fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy! Loved the aioli it came with as well. The servers seem to really like their jobs and are always friendly. The café is always bustling with energy, but I never feel rushed. The last time I ordered it (which might have been a while ago) it was quite different BUT I'm quite sure the menu description hasn't changed a bit. It used to be comprised of big chunks of perfectly steamed broccoli, cauliflower and (I think the 3rd veg was) carrot on a bed of succulent chewy brown rice. What I got today was a bunch of shredded vegetables, mostly cabbage, with deep-fried something on top that I picked off immediately. A few slices of watermelon radish on the side and a few underdone green beans. It was on a bed of soft sort-of-brown rice. The tofu and the peanut sauce tasted the same but the Buddha Bowl overall is not the same. I miss those good old days. Next time I'll order something else. read more

On Earth Day, we came to this iconic Clintonville restaurant for a free Earth Day meal. There was a line forming outside before lunchtime. At 11:00, the manager came outside and welcomed all of us and spoke briefly about his commitment to plant based foods. The restaurant was hopping! The food was very good and freshly prepared. The salad was light and hit the spot. I am more of a carnivore, yet the plant based burger was satisfying. I would have probably never ordered it but everybody loves a free meal. I am sad to do this but I don't have a great review for North Star Clintonville. I've eaten there 6 times in the last month each time hoping the meal will be like it used to be and last night was my last try. The inconsistency is so disappointing. The ingredients are fresh but the execution is inconsistent. This is made harder to tolerate by the inconsistency of the staff. Most are amazing but a couple are discourteous in a way that is hard to ignore. I don't go out to eat to get rudely lectured at when I ask questions. I'm not giving up on NS. We will try another location bc the food is great when it's done right. read more

Visiting Columbus, Ohio for Pride and came across this restaurant for brunch. Upon walking in, you order your food and drinks at the register then seat yourself. Then the waitresses bring your food and drinks at your table. The neat thing is that instead of having to wait back in line to order more food- you can order again but this time from your table and pay as well. Great concept. The food was delicious and brought in a timely manner- especially since we had 10 ppl at our table. Great portion sizes and very yummy. No complaints. As always, food is great. We always get the NorthStar Veggie Burger. Suggestion, consider using the same buns that they use in Westerville. Yours seem more like a fast food place would have. Service is ALWAYS GREAT! Ambience?! Wellll, The last 2 or 3 times we were there my wife found the woman's room rather off-putting. Especially in the handicap stall, she said there was a sewer gas smell which made her nauseous. For now, we've decided that we'll make the longer trip to go to Westerville, but would hope at some point we can come back to Beechwold (it's closer to us). I've become a fan of Northstar Cafe after finally visiting in person after yearing about it for years. This location can have tricky parking during lunch hours but inside there seemed to be plenty of space. You order at the counter and then the food is brought to the table you choose. I had the Thai Burrito with chicken and really enjoyed it. The peanut sauce was delicious as was the rice, chicken, and carrots also in the burrito. I asked for fries with the dipping sauce instead of the chips and both were delicious. I also really really like the Carrot Cake in a Jar that they offer. It's pricy but soooo delicious. I wish they offered delivery again, our clients loved when we would order Northstar Cafe for lunch meetings. I also miss the Mexicali salad that they used to offer - it was full of flavor! read more

You can wash your meal down with a glass of wine or a craft beer, but they also have some great specialty juice drinks and their Mint Iced Coffee is insanely delicious. Regardless what you order, you must (read: MUST) have a giant cookie. You can share it, but if you choose not to, I won't judge. The peanut cookie is my fave; it's covered with salty/sweet nuts and is soft, melt-in-your mouth delicious. The double chocolate and chocolate chip would be my second faves.
