To start Tony was our waiter, very polite and tennative. we started with asparagus wrapped with Prosciutto very very good, next was a house salad, in most cases they can be the same buy i must say it was ice cold and plenty of dressing!!! I had the aged Sirlon and my wife had the Filet mignon outstanding and cooked perfect. we shared Bussell sprouts and lobster tail as well as lobster rissoto. The risotto was cooked perfect. The food was amazing, the space is super cute, and the service was outstanding. It is pretty pricey, but we thought it was worth it for a splurge. We went for a family valentines day special meal and we all enjoyed it. They even had a saxophonist accompanying the music! He talked to my kid about his instruments, so nice. Servers have no idea about wine, how to decant wine, why you do that, how to pour wine, how to serve Prosecco, I could go on!! We could not have chosen a better restaurant to celebrate our sons 21st birthday. The food was amazing, our server was beyond friendly and extremely knowledgeable and gave excellent recommendations. It was a so so experience. My in laws were excited to take us there to celebrate my husband's new job. They had an excellent first experience there and wanted to treat us to the newest steak house in town. The service was timely and the ambiance was nice. However, the food and the menu is where we had a hiccup. The asparagus wrapped something appetizer was really good but picking out a 30 plus dollar steak and it having no sides included is mind blowing, even more so when it's not cooked to the ordered temperature. Maybe I'm expecting more but when I order dinner from a place and the plate is 30 plus dollars I hope there are sides to it and not for an additional cost. Besides that my MIL steak wasn't cooked to her ordered temp and by the time she got a replacement we were all done eating and that left her eating alone. The vibe of our celebratory dinner change and left us all scratching our heads to we could have gone to a pub for just as good steak and half the price with sides. I debated about whether to give our give our dinner at Notch 8 four or five stars but ultimately went with five because of the great improvement they'd made since I went there shortly after their opening. This is a restaurant that is very much trying to get it right and provide a memorable dining experience for their customers. We were cautiously optimistic about dining there (I was celebrating my birthday) but all of us really enjoyed the whole meal. I should add that I am gluten-free and was thrilled that there was a very extensive gluten-free menu which included all the sides that I presumed would contain gluten! Our server Emily was a real pro, and the meal was very well paced- that matters a lot to me! Our starters (mussels and prosciutto-wrapped asparagus) were delicious. Our group ordered the prime rib special (a very good deal!), the filet mignon and the sea bass, along with some sides to share. All of us were very happy with our meals. To be nit-picky I might suggest that there could be some more seasonal choices on the menu. But I know that there are standard choices that have to be part of a steakhouse menu, and having those and being consistent is important! The wine list was not overwhelming and not over the top pricey! As for desserts I couldn't believe all the choices were gluten free!!! The crème brûlée and flourless chocolate cake were yummy! I ordered the Prime Grade Boneless Rib Eye with chimichurri. The steak was very bland and the chimichurri was ok at best. My wife and her mom ordered the same and weren't impressed either, so it it's hardly a fluke. For $65 you're better off going to something like Max's Tavern in Springfield or even trying your chances for half that at Longhorn. Our waiter was cool though. read more

We were looking for a nice steak restaurant to return to the area. What a find! We split the steak for two, cooked just right. Since we were only interested in the beef, we decided to skip salad and appetizers. Good choice. The steak was plenty. Drinks were good, though the service was inexperienced. Not offensively so, but clearly the set up for the bartender was difficult. We sat at a bar table, so it was his responsibility, but no one informed him we were seated. He was busy, so we needed to get his attention. My Manhattan was okay, but not chilled as ordered. Also, wine was a mystery - I think the staff needs some training on wine and drink service. I've worked and managed bars, so lack of training is obvious. The attitude of staff was friendly and upbeat, but not professionally trained. Steak hit the spot, and the atmosphere was nice (though there was a noisy, raucous group of drunk women nearby), and we'll be back. read more

First time at this restaurant. We were visiting family in the area, so we thought we'd give it a try. It is located at the Northampton Train Depot. The restaurant name is cleverly appropriate for the location!! The decor is warm and the seating was very comfortable. Knowing that it only opened recently, I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, if they had any new restaurant jitters, you would not know it. The service was exemplary. Our server, whose name escapes me, was pretty amazing. She was very well versed regarding the menu and was very accommodating to a few special requests. She was attentive and very pleasant. The food quality and quantity exceeded expectations. I had the pork belly confit as an appetizer. It was perfect. A member of our party ordered the lobster bisque and commented on how wonderful it was. The Oysters Rockefeller were a big hit. I had Sea Bass for dinner. It was deliciously prepared. The rice had toasted coconut in it..I am a fan of coconut, so I truly enjoyed it. The steaks and the Chicken Francaise were also a big hit. Tonight was our first visit to Notch 8. We live locally and we're excited that there was a new restaurant in the area. Aesthetically it's very pleasing we decided to sit at the bar can't say enough about the staff and their friendliness the only odd thing was the martini glasses lined up in front of us...We ordered a selection of six oysters which were excellent and a crab cake also excellent. My husband had a very interesting man on fire cocktail which came to him smoking and delicious. We decided to order a bottle of Caymus wine which we found very reasonably priced one of the managers Stephen brought it out to us and once again very lovely person very social and friendly we so enjoyed speaking with him. Overall, our food was very good I am a pescatarian, so I was happy with the seafood selections. I could add to my salad and they had a very delicious vegetarian Wellington I will try next time. The only low point was our dessert, we decided to order a tiramisu, and it was basically a cup of whip cream a very disappointing end to an otherwise great meal. The staff is extremely friendly. They just need a few more fine dining skills to make a flawless dining experience and I feel after meeting Stephen that they will probably get that part up to par as well! read more

Came for the Tunnel Bar downstairs, decided we didn't want to walk or drive for dinner, so decided to try and restaurant upstairs--OMG, I absolutely CANNOT recommend this place enough!! The ambience is elegant, classy, *and* intimate--sat at a window area facing the train tracks, and my friend caught a GORGEOUS sunset behind me. The food was amazingggggg - we got a crab cake, filet mignon w/ cider demi glace, seared scallops w/ potato puree and sauteed spinach, lamb shank w/ roasted root vegetables, mushroom risotto (SO good!!! T.T), carrot cake, tiramisu, and creme brulee. The plating was beautiful and the meat so tender it was falling off my fork, thank you so much to the back of house! The hostess who seated us was also so kind and personable, thank you for the window seats! ^^ Service from absolutely EVERYONE we encountered was so personable and welcoming!! Shout-out specifically to Joe--great recommendations, genuinely so kind and attentive and helpful, there wasn't a single moment we didn't have exactly what we needed, delivered with style and good humor. He went above and beyond tonight!! Definitely gonna ask to be in his section again the next time we're in town!!!! Misc notes: went on a Thursday night, so it wasn't too crowded but not weirdly empty either. Plenty of parking but it IS paid, so make note of that. Was really looking forward to this new restaurant in Northampton. The decor is quite nice and a huge upgrade from the old sports bar it used to be. Unfortunately, most everything was a disappointment: The lobster bisque was far too salty; I couldn't even finish it. The tenderloin carpaccio was seared and chopped tenderloin in a terrible presentation. If you want to know what a quality beef carpaccio is try Alina's in Hadley; they make an excellent version. My veal saltimbocca was terrible. The veal was tough and the prosciutto was too thick and also tough. The melted mozzarella on top made for a bad presentation and was gluey. It looked like "my dog's breakfast" came back up. One bright spot was the vegetarian Wellington which two of our party enjoyed. The wine list is vacuous and the Malbec we chose was corked. The cocktails were not of the same quality as the Tunnel Bar, in the same business! We declined dessert. Also the dining room was a cacophony of noise. Bad acoustics forcing everyone to shout was giving me a headache. Please try better as I would love another opportunity. read more

I came to town to visit family and wanted to have a nice dinner. It was easy enough to make reservations here which was nice. We ended up (10 of us) going on Wednesday night - which was prime rib night. The restaurant was not busy, maybe half full. The food was horrendous. The prime rib had no flavor, the au jus had no flavor. I ordered mine medium rare, but it came out more medium. There was only one person in our group that got their prime rib the way it was ordered. And none of the food came out hot. It was all served room temp. The Mac and cheese (ordered by the kids) was rubbery and cold also. I was extremely disappointed in the whole experience. Honestly we would have been better off to go to Texas Roadhouse. At least their food has flavor. Honestly don't waste your time or money. read more

Very cute restaurant! It's a moody, chic lounge atmosphere. Wasn't noisy at all, would be nice for a group setting or a more intimate dinner. All staff members that we interacted with very friendly and attentive, the food was delicious, and the portions were generous. So generous we ordered dessert to go, which was a brilliant idea as the desserts did not disappoint. I want to really like this place. This town needs a nice upscale restaurant. They have a decent bourbon selection and the wine selection is more than adequate. I ordered the filet with chimichurri sauce and brussel sprouts. The filet arrived more med well than medium but it had a nice char and decent flavor. The chimichurri was ok - not the best I've had. The brussel sprouts were very tasty. Overall I would have to say that this place is average for what they are trying to do. I'm definitely willing to come back and try their ribeye. read more

2.5 stars. Honestly, I was very disappointed in this restaurant. Smaller inside than what you see online, bar too. Expensive for what you get--Boston prices but not Boston quality. Compared to other steakhouses, even franchise ones like Ruth's Chris, they fell way short. First, the bread is in-house made. However, they put cheese in it. I don't think that would appeal to the masses but maybe it's just us. I look for a great sourdough bread. Salad was ok, not very big. Main menu--I ordered the filet and my spouse ordered the bone in sirloin. When they came out they were not piping hot. I think they let them rest too long. Neither steak had any grill marks on them. It was odd. I've never had a steak presented this way. They didn't even look broiled. Taste was blah. Looking back we should have sent them back. Sides were good--brussel sprouts and fingerling potatoes. Probably the best part of the meal. Plenty for 2. Dessert was tiramisu cake and flourless torte. Tiramisu was moist but had hardly any coffee flavor in it. More like a cream cake. Flourless torte was very rich. Service at the bar was fine. Disappointed in their cocktail menu--limited and nothing special. Overall because of how expensive it is I'm not sure we'd go back. You go for the steaks and if this is their 1 shot at impressing customers I'd say it failed. I hope they improve but to us they have a bit ways to go. read more

Sunday brunch buffet !! So good! Really great selection including traditional favorites and other food that kicked this buffet up a "notch" - see what I did there? Favorites are the eggs Benedict with spinach (not ham, thank you!), a variety of salads, pasta with shrimp and mussels, delishly devilish deviled eggs, a variety of meat dishes, made to order omelets, yummy desserts. The cost was $34 and any drinks were extra incl. coffee. Service was great. Music set the mood although a tad loud. The waterfall video over the bar was a nice scenic touch to ambience and the room is beautiful. The staff was super nice. We will be back!! read more
