My brother-in-law and father-in-law wanted the 18 oz prime rib. They were super lucky, as it was the last 2 portions left. Everyone ordered steaks (even the kids' meals had steaks). The only complaint I would have is their NY peppercorn steak. They literally coat the steak in whole peppercorns, which is crazy to me. I would have thought it would be more like a peppercorn sauce, but I had to scrape off the whole peppercorns because it was really overpowering. But everything else was good and done to their liking. I loved the crispy exterior with the sea salt on top, and the inside was so pillowy and buttery - then topped with the blue cheese butter... yum! So good. For my entree, I ordered the truffle tenderloin steak and my dining partner had the ahi tuna. We also added the Brussels sprouts and Brie mashed potatoes to share. A really cool feature is they bring over a selection of steak knives that you can choose from. I really love this concept and whoever thought that up is a genius. I chose a gorgeous, elegant-looking knife with a handle that looked like mother of pearl. The steak was easily one of the best steaks I've ever had. They shave black truffle directly on the steak when it's served, which adds such a nice richness. The sauce is also one of the better sauces I've had on a steak. It was so tempting to want to lick the plate! It was a cooked to a perfect medium rare and so tender. It's been a long time since I was really blown away by a great steak, but this just hit the mark in every way. The Brussels sprouts were great, but there was something in the dish that was a bit odd - almost like wasabi or something. It wasn't bad, it just had a kick that I wasn't expecting and made me cough a little bit. The potatoes were creamy and buttery but I did think the Brie flavour wasn't coming through enough. Maybe because all the other flavours on my plate were pretty strong. I didn't try the tuna but it looked beautiful and apparently tasted just as good. We finished off with a couple of desserts: the beehive pavlova and the crème brûlée, the latter being my typical go-to dessert. Unfortunately, I didn't really care for the salted caramel flavour here, but can't really put my finger on what exactly I didn't enjoy as I normally love salted caramel. One bite was enough for me. It looked amazing, though. I did enjoy the pavlova, but it wasn't a traditional style as it had ice cream inside instead of whipped cream. It was more like a baked Alaska without the flame. The flavours were good on this dessert, but I probably wouldn't order it again as I was really craving the more traditional pavlova. Service was good, but we did wait quite a long time after being seated before placing our order, and then waited again after dessert before getting our bill. We didn't get asked if we wanted more bread, took 20 minutes to get our order in, our calamari appetizer never arrived and just our mains but by the time we could find our server we were halfway through our mains despite that I am a slow eater. The server did apologize and said he would bring the calamari and take it off the bill, which was nice. Calamari came in 10 minutes but portion looked small. When the server came by next he mentioned that it came quickly because he stole the order from another table - what?!? Am glad the calamari was free because it didn't taste great and portion was small. My boyfriend wasn't asked if he wanted another beer until we were at the end of the meal and when I asked for a water refill it took another 10 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to eat and not because I was slow eater but due to the slow service. We were looking forward to our Billy Miner pie but the server never mentioned it and as it took so long to find him we gave up on dessert and opted to go for dessert somewhere else. This must be a franchise location and not sure why it's so busy as service and food easily the worst Keg location I've ever been to and I have to most locations in the Lower Mainland plus Kelowna. Will definitely stick to the Vancouver and Burnaby locations from here on out. The bigger disappointment was that I wrote to the Keg to provide feedback and never heard back. The broccoli gratin was dried burnt broccoli with a sprinkle of parm. The Mac and cheese was bland. The food came out except for 1 prime rib. After 10 minutes, the server came to apologize and inform us that they were out of prime rib. He offered the prime rib sandwich on rush, which we appreciated. It came out quickly enough but was not good. There was too much fat to meat ration. We would have sent back a few things but the table beside us sent back their food multiple times and we were ready to go. Not sure what happened but it was an off day. It started last year when they took whipping cream totally out of their restaurants. And since when has skinny freaking asparagus become a 'thing'. DisGUSTing. They're getting downright stingy with the mushroom portion too. And now the Billy Minor pie also no longer has whipping cream with it. They used to serve THE BEST Monte Cristo coffee, topped with whipping cream and chocolate shavings. I know cause I had one every time I went there for dinner. Their steaks were bar none the highest quality and cooked to perfection. My favorite has always been the Teriyaki marinated 8 oz sirloin. The Keg ALWAYS put customer service first and foremost. It was almost embarrassing to send anything back because there was such a big production made of the incident, but you always knew you could count on their integrity to correct the situation. The last time I ate there IS the last time I'll eat there. No care and attention given to the fact my steak wasn't marinated. Sloppy, incompetent service. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant has changed in the past year. Not as friendly. Bad music!, catering only to the younger crowd. I hate that. Just sad I've lost one of my fave places to eat. Two instances, both not the fault of our server, but the bar had a friend a drink in a dirty glass, she ordered a clear drink but it was brown tinged, and had a weird flavour. Multiple people at the table tried it before we told the server that it seemed off. It was slightly off putting, but our server went back and got a new one for my friend. Second thing, they said they updated their POS so for some reason the person who had the most alcoholic drinks had been put in with a really high autogratuity, but it was strange because everyone else at the party had the regular autograt of 20% I believe and the only person who was drunk ended up getting 30% or something of the sort. Our server again, amazing and took care of it working with the manager who fixed it and came to apologize but the optics of that only happening to the one drunk person if the party, well you know. Without au jus, it was more like a cheese steak sandwich now. The shrimp scampi was the least favourite of all. The pasta was bland and under seasoned and so was the sauce. No capers around and did not help with giving the dish more flavour. The shrimps though were nicely cooked, plenty, and succulent. Again, our server was great. Still fresh & clean having just opened this past summer…read more Steveston Built Local Taphouse & Grill is definitely an enhancement to this area of Steveston Village. One has to move with the times & marketing SV as that 'quiet sleepy fishing village' to tourists can only get you so far in the 21st Century with our super fast paced life styles! SB is a neat, clean comfortable chilled out pub. Locals will be impressed & very happy with this new pub option. To be honest I was blown away with how great my meal tasted! I was not expecting it to be so amazing! My Crispy Chicken Burger was truly one of the best I've ever had!!! The fries complemented the meal - these fries were again the best ones I've had yet!!! I really do hope SB can continue to maintain these high standards for a long time! I've gone to pubs all over Metro Vancouver & it feels like the chef just got out on parole, or the pub just keeps employing high school kids in the kitchen! One really wants to support - 'Local' - but too often the food tastes just like - sadness! My friend ordered the Happy Hour special - roast beef & he really enjoyed that too. Friendly & prompt service all round give SB high marks! I sat on the chair against the wall & I do say it was such comfort there I could have stayed here having drinks & watched the football game till late.
