I was in town on business and looking for a unique, local hangout to meet up with some friends. One of my colleagues heard about Novanta and found that it had been given 5 stars by past customers. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted with a smile by a friendly staff person. The interior of the restaurant isn't fancy but the menu offers unique and tasty choices, including salads. In fact, one of my friends ordered a salad and it was huge. It looked so good that I will definitely try one during my next visit. Now onto the main attraction: the pizza. We tried an Alice (Mozzarella, Pecorino Romano, Fontina, Onion, Basil, Balsamic Glaze) and a Diavola (Mozzarella, Pepperoni, Onion, Basil) - both were excellent! The Emiliana salad was a nice starter. Found the gelato to be a bit harder than you would expect, but it tasted delicious. The service was fast and friendly. Pleasantly surprised by this excellent place! Came here with a group of 6 when our attempts at snagging a table at Eno Vino at 6:30 PM on a Saturday were thwarted. Ordered several different pizzas here, including the alice, toscano, salciccia, sardine (the special) and cow milk and buffalo milk from the mozzarella bar accompanied by pesto/tomatoes/balsalmic and meats. Prices were extremely reasonable for the pizzas and they were fun to share. They were very well made thin-crust and the pizzas were flavorful -for those times you want higher quality pizza but want to be more casual than Grampa's or Naples. The cow milk and buffalo milk was extremely fresh and tasty and worth trying at least once (though it feels like a splurge when it's the same price as a pizza and not nearly as filling). The pesto was absolutely delicious and was great to dip pizza crust into (however, the meat plate seamed to be a better deal/more filling). Definitely glad I visited! read more

Was excited to try this place for dinner as I'd heard all the good reviews and It was close to my place. The place was crowded, which makes sense as it was a Friday night. The servers did a great job of managing people waiting for tables and handing out the to go orders. Here's where the bad comes. My friend and I decided to get the pesto pizza and the salsicca pizza. Both pizzas came out lukewarm and the mozzarella on both pizzas was dense and tough (probably due to it being on the colder side). The pesto pizza was bland and was missing something. The salsicca has a good flavor profile but couldn't be appreciated due to the meat being cold. Given all the positive reviews, it's possible they were having a bad night, but will not be my destination for pizza in Madison. read more

This is a really cute place, and the service was phenomenal! I wasn't aware it was an order at the counter and they'll bring your food to you kind of place, but I don't mind that. There was outdoor seating too! It's hard to find Whole30 compliant meals out to eat, but you can build your own salad- and it was huge! I had mixed greens, tons fresh vegetables (mushrooms, peppers, and onions), and they cook EVERYTHING there in olive oil (necessary for Whole30 - they took the time to answer all of my questions) so you can add chicken too! The prosciutto was phenomenal! The salad dressing was simple & delicious olive oil with vinegar. The pizzas and menu looked and smelled so good, I definitely would come back to try one of those! Best Neapolitan style pizza in Madison! We have ordered the Alice and Napoletana many times. There's nothing like this in Madison. We also love the Caprese as an appetizer. Generous amounts of everything. The Garbanzo salad is also big and yummy. If you want dessert the Pizza Nutella is soo good. I want to order it every time, but then I remember my health is important to me. One note I will add here is that if you don't eat much Neapolitan style pizza, it may take a little while to get used to this style. I didn't like Novanta the first time I went here because I was expecting/wanting a lot of cheese and toppings. But when I adjusted my expectations I really like it a lot now. read more

Went here after getting a craving for pizza after work. We had heard good things, so we thought we'd try it out. Also when I read the review that upon checking in on Yelp you get a free cannoli, I was in! The staff was super friendly and since we got our food to go, it was done pretty quick. I got the toscano pizza. I was a fan of all the toppings on it, but the crust could have been a little darker for my liking. Maybe just 40 more seconds in the oven. I actually broiled the pieces for a little bit when I got home. That being said, still really good pizza. My friend got the special of the night which had brussel sprouts and prosciutto. This is a favorite combination! He too said the pizza was pretty good, just the crust seemed like it needed a little longer in the oven. We ended up splitting the cannoli, which had mini chocolate chips in the cream. The cream inside was well done, but the outer shell seemed to lack a nice crack and had a little taste of flour. High quality specialty pizzas in a fast casual setting. I ordered the pesto one which was very delicious, maybe could have some more cherry tomatoes. My friend for the lambordiano (?) with pear and arugula - super interesting but very tasty! Arugula on pizza is 9.9/10 times a hit! What most surprised me was the Nutella pizza! I imagine just flatbread with Nutella smeared on top but they really make a very airy bread crust, open it up to add heaps of Nutella and then sprinkle powder/coca sugar on top. The Margherita Pizza is amazing - you can tell the mozzarella was freshly made and it has the right amount of tomato sauce (most pizzas have too much or too little). The Pesto Pizza is also very good, but I would recommend the Margherita over the Pesto. The Nutella Pizza is heavenly! I've had Nutella Pizza at other Neapolitan pizza places but this was different! Usually there's just a smear of nutella but I bit into this and it had heaps of Nutella in it! It was quite the surprise! I also love the Graham Cracker cake - it's super light and not too sweet. Novanta is a pinnacle for Neapolitan pizza places around the Madison Area. When we arrived, we were greeted politely and there was no rush to check out their vast menu. They had several options from salads, pizzas, desserts and a mozzarella bar. They also had a nice wine menu to pair well with the pizza and mozzarella bar. We decided on splitting the pesto pizza with italian sausage and a caprese from the mozzarella bar. We added prosciutto to the mozzarella dish and it made it all the best! The food was tasty and at a moderate price. The ingredients were fresh and the crust on the pizza was fire-charred which gave it the perfect crisp. The pesto sauce wasn't too oily or overpacked with basil. Overall a fantastic experience and I wish I would've known about this place sooner. Staff was great and so was the food. Nice place. Nice music. Friendly staff. Delicious, freshly made Italian food. I was starving and drive into my bolognese before I could take a picture. But trust me, it was beautifully presented. Freshly shaved parmigiana on top and basil picked from their garden outside. Only Romano cheese and hot pepper flakes adorn the table. No salt and pepper needed. Or wanted. I'm going to get the Chocolate Truffle Gelato! They have fresh looking cannolis or a refreshing sounding lemon sorbet as well. Oh, let's not forget the Tiramisu for the traditionalists. Their main staple is a genuine Neopolitian pizza done the traditional way. 90 seconds at 900 degrees to melt the fresh mozzarella onto the bubbles crust. Did I mention the house mozzarella is made daily right here?? No?! It is. And it is Devine. My friend is having the Mozzarella Bar. There's also some good sounding salads. Accompany your lovely meal with some whine or beer. And they have bottled Coke and Sprite. Not just the fountain stuff. Okay. Back to finishing my bolognese so I can get that gelato!! Madison has lots of great pizza joints, but Novanta is a gem among them. They are fast, consistent, and hyper-fresh. The crust is perfectly seasoned and has a great constrast of crisp on the outside and chew on the inside, and their homemade mozzarella is heavenly! My only request is that they'd have a rotating special or add a few new ingredients into the mix, but that's a minor gripe. For lovers of Neapolitan pizza, this place has the goods. Service was horrendous, and the food definitely didn't make up for it. We waited 20 minutes on cannolis that we're ready to serve until I finally had to ask for a refund so we could leave. The pizza situation wasn't much better. There were 3 of us who ordered pizzas, and they said it would be about a 40 minute wait. We were cool with that. 2 of them showed up after 45 minutes, but the 3rd pizza took another 20, so the other two were cold by then. They don't come with a lot of toppings, and even the fresh one was soggy and floppy. I wanted to like this place, but holy hell. Waiting 20 minutes for dessert after waiting an hour for cold pizza is pretty atrocious. read more

Novanta has been on my list of places to try for many years. I finally made it here and I'm now a fan. I would say it is comparable to pizza brutta on Monroe. We had two pizzas, one with pear and Gorgonzola and the other with sausage and mozzarella. Both were good and the sausage was so good we ordered a second one. Everyone that day agree that the crust is mighty good. Forgot to take photos. The decor of the place is simple, just like the ingredients on their pizza. Pretty good pizza. Got the Alice, Napoletana, and Salsiccia. My favorite was the Alice. It had the perfect blend of cheeses and the balsamic gives such a great sweetness to it. The Salsiccia was really good to me but if you don't like anchovies, don't get it. The Napoletana was good but nothing special - good sausage pizza. I really want to try more from here. My only real complaint is that it's pretty pricey for the size. I was surprised how small they were given the price. I didn't pay attention until I got it home. read more

The pizzas are made to order with fresh ingredients. Their 900 degree oven makes the pizzas in 90 seconds - hence their name. The atmosphere is laid back and we witnessed many people picking up their pizzas to go. Now the food: The crust is thin and light and easy to cut. My partner ordered from the Pizze Bianche menu and got the Toscano pizza made with house mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, roasted peppers, roasted onions, garlic, and basil. I ordered from the Pizze Rosse menu and got the Caserta pizza made with salame, roasted peppers, roasted onion and oregano. Both were popping with flavor and did resemble the pizza in Italy. Since the pizza is thin, you don't get a stomach ache after finishing off the entire personal pizza. I think the next time we will try their mozzarella bar or paninis! Did a quick carry out this afternoon for a late lunch, as I've heard really good things about Novanta. I ordered the margherita pizza, and it came out really fast and fresh! It was the perfect size for just myself, with four wide slices. It was really good, and I definitely will be ordering it again. The only thing I'd say is that I wish there was more basil on it. Three and a half stars? What was I thinking? The pizza at Novanta gives the other local Neopolitan superstar joint a good run for its money. It is hard to say which is best, but I recommend you try at least a couple dozen of each. Novanta's salad selection is slim but the gorgonzola salad is really good, and the desserts are tasty if a bit similar to each other. I have to recommend to skip the "focaccia", though; it tastes of toasted salt and little else. Nice friendly guy at the register lately -- every little bit of brightness helps. read more
