I was impressed with the quick response. I asked for the cost to replace a breaker switch. She said she couldn't provide an estimate but the service visit was $75. (waived if work was done). We proceeded and Aaron (the owner of Straight Up) came to our house the next day. He gave us a quote for replacing the breaker switch (which we decided to do on our own since we had done so previously) - and we also found out we had a bad GFCI (from power washing the day before). His estimate to replace was $350. I thought that sounded way too high and he came down in price to $265. When replacing the initial GFCI did not fix the problem, Aaron started looking around and found another bad GFCI (replaced in the last 2 years with one from Lowe's). Aaron said to not trust any GFCIs from Lowe's or Home Depot as the quality is poor. He replaced that one and we asked him if he could check out pool light - another bad GFCI replaced (he had to go get another one). The total for replacing (not rewiring just replacing) 3 GFCI outlets was $650. That was the heavily "discounted" amount! When Aaron left, I called 2 local, reputable electricians (I would recommend Fox Electric if you need an electrician). Both companies said the total job (with their $150 service visit) would have cost no more than $300-400 (on the high end). So I am giving 2 stars to Straight Up for showing up quickly - but would NOT recommend. When I told Aaron about the comments from the other electric comapanies he said he would match their price if I had them come out and provide and estimate. I had already called them and he could have done the same thing if he truly cared about reasonable and fair pricing.

Caution on using Carroll Service - what was communicated and what happened are two completely…read moredifferent things: I called Gabe Carroll on a Friday after seeing his Yelp reviews, looking for a quote on electrical work at a rental property -- we have renters moving in and wanted to make sure everything was up to code and safe. Gabe said he could come out that Monday to provide a quote, and mentioned I'd get a message from an automated system but told me to ignore it, so I did. Monday morning, one of his workers arrived before Gabe and began pulling out switches and other items before any quote had been given or fees discussed. My son was the only one home at the time. Gabe arrived shortly after to assess the work needed, then called me to walk through what he'd found and said I'd have a quote to review within a few minutes. When the quote arrived, it included a $149 service fee and a $159 diagnostic fee in addition to the repair estimate -- none of which had been mentioned to me beforehand. When I questioned this, Gabe said I had agreed to the fees via the automated message -- the same message he'd told me to ignore, and which I never opened. He sent a screenshot of a calendar entry with a checkmark as "proof" of my agreement. I had gotten quotes from other electricians at no cost, which is what I expected here too, so I could compare pricing fairly before committing to work. When I pushed back on the fees, Gabe became confrontational: he called the police (who, after speaking with him, apologized for the call and left), threatened to send my account to collections, and contacted city code enforcement about violations he'd found. I'm now working directly with the inspector on those items, which is exactly the kind of oversight I wanted a professional's help with in the first place. When I mentioned I'd be leaving a review, Gabe said he'd sue me for slander. My advice: get any fees confirmed in writing before agreeing to a "quote" visit, and consider getting quotes elsewhere -- several other local electricians will do this at no charge and not be so hostile in the interactions.

He helped us install a transfer switch and exterior inlet plug for our generator so we can safely power our home during outages, and also rewired several breakers to create a dedicated group of emergency-use circuits that the generator would run. The level of knowledge and care he brought to this project was exceptional. Justin was very generous with his vast knowledge in the area. He took the time to thoroughly explain not just what he was installing, but why, and went above and beyond by educating us on generator best practices, including important dos and don'ts for safe operation. I definitely felt much more confident in my ability to keep our house running for my family than I did prior. He was also extremely friendly, kind, and easy to work with from start to finish. Scheduling was simple, he was very accommodating to our availability, and his work was fast yet meticulous. He ran multiple dry runs with our generator to ensure every targeted breaker was functioning properly, and even took the panel back off to include an additional circuit I initially didn't think would be necessary, but ultimately agreed was important for emergency situations. That extra level of diligence and care is rare. Justin is a one-man operation, but you'd never know it based on the quality of his work and professionalism. Words cannot accurately describe how unbelievably awful it is to work with David. I hired David to…read morewire a hot tub at a property I own. We scheduled it for 7 am 2 days after our agreement. David confirms the appointment. At around 1 am the morning of our appointment, I get a text from David demanding I pay him 50% of the project immediately or he won't show up. Normally I would tell him to kick rocks, but we had a very serious deadline and could not get anybody else at that point. I paid it, and asked for David to provide his license and insurance info that he had promised, which he didn't. David then showed up late, never even communicated with us the status at all. At around 6 pm I texted him for an update and he simply said, "I'm done working for the day", with no notice of when he would continue or when the job would be done. I followed up asking for his insurance info that he had never provided and he then went on a rant about how he was the best electrician in Dallas and that I didn't need to worry. I then decided to stop by the property to see things, and found that David had used MY work equipment without asking and had cut numerous holes in walls throughout the house with no notice and left random mess all over the place. Sheetrock and huge chunks of insulation were scattered all over the floor. No attempt to even clean it up. My dogs tried to eat the insulation. It was a disaster and huge safety hazard. I sent David photos of the holes in the wall and asked him to confirm that he would be repairing these before completion. David then said, "I don't do sheetrock." I then stated he should have absolutely told me he would be cutting holes he has no intention of ever fixing before doing so, as I now have a nonrefundable photoshoot for the house scheduled tomorrow, and giant holes in the wall. David apologizes and says he can help me find a handyman to fix them. So I spend all night scrambling to find a handyman without even knowing when I can get them to the house because David won't commit to when he will finish. We now get to this morning, where I get numerous messages and phone calls from various phone numbers claiming to be David, demanding I speak to him. I tell him I don't need to speak to him, and that he needs to finish the job, quickly. He demands again that he will not work unless he speaks to me. I call him. He then demands I need to tell him I'm okay with him cutting more holes and that I will ignore the undisclosed giant holes he cut. I tell him I'm not okay with ANY of what has gone on here, but that I really don't have a choice at this point. He then says I do. And I say, "so you can complete the project without the holes?" He says no. I say, then I have no choice, and I inform him I have my backup handyman waiting and to finish by 3 pm. I then ask him when he is going to finish, and he tells me that his quote says it's a 36 hour project. I ask when he will be done. He refuses to answer, and just repeatedly demands that I need to guarantee that I will pay him his full price when he finishes and waive the damages he caused. I tell him I already agreed to pay him during the initial invoice, have already paid him 50% due to his refusal to begin without it despite these issues, and that the constant reassurances while he repeatedly leaves at random times, refuses to give a clear completion date, and damages my property, are ridiculously hypocritical and that I will not be threatened into doing anything extra for him ever again as I had already prepaid him for his work that he didn't do. He then says I must text him reaffirming that I will pay him the full price while expressly mentioning that I will overlook the damage to the home. I tell him no, and then he quits and demands I let him back into the home unsupervised to gather his stuff. I tell him I will not be doing that, and that I will wait on police to be there for him to do anything at the property since he has quit. He then refuses to coordinate with me to get his stuff, and just keeps repeating that he is coordinating with police to do a civil standby. I sit here waiting for hours, and then he randomly texts me threatening messages telling me he will call the city inspectors and have me shut down because he knows them personally. So he then extorts me. Even now, as I update this, he continues to threaten me for the 8th time just today. His communication is BEYOND BELIEF AWFUL. He is lazy, makes random unreasonable demands and refuses to continue work unless met, has no problem using your tools and equipment without even asking, and does terrible work to boot, while texting you nonstop about how he is the best electrician you will ever have. If you enjoy self harm then he's the electrician for you. Otherwise use absolutely anybody else. Even your grandma. ANYBODY BUT DAVID. Oh and he refused to refund the 50%

I ended up having to cancel and they haven't refunded me my money despite numerous requests and have further stopped responding to me. And the number I had been using for them no longer works.
