North side Nudo Love this place. Now a sushi house with a great sushi chef. Folks are friendly. Good cocktails and yes good ramen. Especially like the dumplings. Clean and charming interior. UPDATE below uh oh ! No. Sorry we went there a few months after posting a four star review ..now down to two stars... why? Well their very talented sushi chef is gone Substitute 4 people trying to do sushi. We had our usual... BAD. Amateur sushi makers are not to be left alone I've had some mediocre sushi .. but never like this. Will have to see how this develops. May just be a Ramen joint from here on out. Had the steamed gyoza, spicy miso, and shoyu ramen. Was pleasantly surprised with how everything turned out. Oishi! I'm visiting from Guam which has a good amount of Japanese restaurants and ramen houses so I was really craving a bowl of ramen during my stay. This definitely hit the spot! The food was good. This place is located next to a burrito restaurant and approximately in front of TJ Maxx in north Newport. You can't miss it because it's a very unique architecture in the front and it's pretty neat. We came here exclusively for the ramen. We ordered tonkatsu & tan tan ramen. While the grandeur chic metro look was appealing the ramen fell short. Although the broth and noodles are very good in the tonkatsu, it had too much things happening in it. There was the sweet pork, shredded carrots, some corn, a lot of fish cakes, one whole hard boiled egg & bamboo shoots. It could be better without all the extras especially the carrots. I was tasting too much sweet with the salt and umami & it left me confused in my palate. The tan tan ramen had basil & chicken in it which is very unusual, it tasted like pho ramen mixed with some curry spiciness. There was also the missing sesame taste, but there were plenty peanuts on top again leaving us confused. Ramen is about the noodles and the broth, in this case less definitely more. Perhaps it's their specialty to make it this way, if you're into all that flavors in your ramen this is the place for you. However for us, we can probably come back to try something more simple. It wasn't crowded but we waited loooong time. Appetizer came 45 minutes after they took order. My ramen was lukewarm and egg was as cold as stone. We were so hungry but we couldn't finish any of the food we ordered. The food was very underwhelming. They were just too salty and too sweet. After reading other reviews, I knew it was not going to be authentic Japanese food but this was much less than I expected. Probably I'm not going back because it's not worth my time nor money. My husband and I have been dining at Nudo for the past two years. We eat there no less than two times a week and weather it's for lunch or dinner, we always have fresh and wonderful meals. The staff is absolutely amazing! They always greet us by name and make us feel welcome. They bend over backwards to give us great service and make it fun to be there. One of the worst meals Ive had in recent memory. I'm ordering out a lot more than normal, trying to support local restaurants during Covid. A lot of hit and miss trying new places. But this one was bad. Ordered four items. Three of them tasted like they had been cooked in dirty grease. Gyoza burnt on one side and raw on the other. Cold in the middle. Edamame overdone mushy with skins that shred and get stuck in your teeth. Pad Thai has some sort of grill skin gunk all through it. Burnt old egg maybe? I'm not even sure. I asked for mild spice level and got no flavor at all except griddle crust. The skewer was ok. So if a friend drags you here, get a couple skewers to hold you over til you get somewhere else. But that's probably a "friend" ... cuz real friends wouldn't expect you to eat this. Yuck! $30 in the trash can. read more

POOR SERVICE!!! Ordered take out online and was given 40 minutes to pick up my order. Went to the restaurant and Informed Olga the greeter I was there to pick up an order. She asked for my name (which I don't think she actually understood). She came back and said they were working on it. I waited another 15 minutes and reminded Olga to check my order. She again asked for my name (still felt she did not understand or heard well through the mask) but she left and came back and said it was almost done. Another 15 minutes had passed and a few people who came and ordered after me got their orders. I again asked Olga to check as it has been over an hour since I ordered online. She asked again for my name and I now had to spell it to her. She comes out saying still working on it. I asked her to just cancel the order since it has been over an hour and a half. She goes and tells them and comes back telling me she cannot cancel but that I can by doing it online. What a fu$&ing joke because the email did not have a link to cancel the order. So she goes back and tells me they will cancel it for me. I asked for proof of cancellation as my card has already been charged. She tells me the manager is busy and cannot cancel it then and there. I asked for something in writing as proof for my credit card company in case they still charge my card. She hands me a note just stating the order was cancelled. It was my first and definitely the last to go here. Never again will I give my business to this company. I am guessing it is the tip. I personally hate tipping on my card because I feel the servers should get the cash instead. But this restaurant's website would not allow you to place an order without adding a tip. So I added just a little and was going to tip in cash when I picked up. Too bad, you lost a customer for lack of poor customer service skills and time management. read more

Outstanding. Came here twice on a five day visit. Don't understand why it is not packed. Benches could be comfier, but I'm old. Monday all day happy hour menu can't be beat, everything is a great value, regardless. A real Ramen joint in North Spokane, keep it busy, people! I had the Spicy Miso, which I enjoyed but might try something different another time. (Also, spicy means spicy!). Pork Buns were outstanding and everything else was fresh and tasty. And $2 beers all day Monday? Are you kidding? Next time I'd try their lunch combos which look to be a great deal at $9, but even better, the daily $5 specials. Craziness! read more

HAVEN'T FOUND BETTER! This was our third time here and it will definitely become our go-to noodle place. The Tuna Tataki with cold noodles is amazing! FRESH, expertly cut and beautifully presented. Our favorite ramen bowl so far has been the Spicy Miso. Delicious, flavorful and satisfying. After having it the first time, we craved it the entire next week. On our next visit I tried the Spicy Beef ramen and am sorry to say it was not my favorite. While the beef in it was well prepared (didn't have that "blah, boiled meat" texture or flavor so common in many Pho or Ramen dishes, the bowl overall was bland and nothing special, didn't hit that "Ramen spot" that keeps you coming back for more. But I didn't hold that against them, because I tried our daughter's Chow Mein dish and it was amazing, so 2 out of 3 is pretty good. On our next trip I tried the Beef Chow Mein and it is hands down one of the BEST noodle dishes I've ever had! I LOVE chow mein, (sometimes even BAD chow mein will do=) It's my absolute favorite and this is just perfect! It hits every note perfectly--texture, flavor, seasonings! I love the thicker noodles, the vegetables were cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! The service from everyone was especially friendly and attentive. I was really excited to get a Northside location, because the downtown location always seemed too busy for my liking. A friend and I went on a quiet weekday evening, where there were only a few other patrons inside. The decor is cheerful and fun, and everything looks clean. However, that's where my positive experience ends. The wait staff seemed wholly uninterested in us, and seemingly everyone else in the restaurant too. It almost felt like we were inconveniencing them by being there and I felt I couldn't ask for anything or I'd annoy them. Very uncomfortable. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen, and my friend ordered a Teriyaki Chicken bowl. We shared the Crisp Salt and Basil chicken, and the Pan Fried String Beans. Individual reviews of these items are as follows: - Shoyu Ramen ($10) had a lovely presentation, but it was lukewarm at best, and I felt as though it had been sitting for a while, because the texture of the noodles didn't seem fresh... which was disappointing. I didn't enjoy the flavor of the broth much, I think I would have preferred something a bit stronger, as I found it bland. I wish I had gotten a fresher bowl of ramen that better represented this restaurant, but I'm afraid to go back and spend money for another bland experience. - Teriyaki Chicken bowl ($12) wasn't very exciting, pretty standard. I found it too sweet for my liking, although my friend didn't mind. There were quite a few chewy bits in the chicken and overall, isn't really anything worth ordering here, you could get the same in a store deli. - Salt and Basil Chicken appetizer ($8) was... Odd. Not what we expected at all. Basically little bits of deep fried dark-meat chicken, which was about 70% breading. It didn't come with sauce, but it was sprinkled with salt and topped with a couple leaves of crispy fried basil which was yummy, but not nearly enough for the whole dish. This seemed too expensive for what it was, honestly. - Pan Fried String Beans were, surprisingly, the hero of the night. They were absolutely delicious, they had enough sauce and overall were cooked nice. However, they were a bit simple and on the small side for $8. ...Overall, spending well over $50 for a bland meal with abysmal service in an uncomfortable environment doesn't make me want to return. Sure, I'd like to try some more of their food, but first impressions are everything, and this one sadly fell short of my high expectations. read more

And that was after a 20 minute wait for ordering and another 20 minutes to get the food. And for whichever cook might see this, the fish cakes should be hot too, when the ramen comes out... Not just everything else in the bowel. And let's not forget about the "community seating." We came as a group to eat as a group, not everyone else that wandered into the restaurant who was bored and wanted to listen in, and sit in, on our conversation. This is my second time to a NUDO Ramen place. First was downtown Spokane and was very happy. I was a little reluctant to try the North location, but I shouldn't have been. The seafood ramen was delicious. While not "traditional" as I know ramen but very flavorful. It says spicy but it was very mild to me, I really like spicy heat, but the broth and veggies were great. The veggies were still a little crunchy, which is exactly how I like them. The amount of prawns and sea scallops were good, not skimpy. Though they do seem to be from a freezer bag the flavor of them and everything else makes a great bowl of soup. The Crunchy Salty, Basil Chicken was very good too. It didn't have enough basil for me though. But a great deal at $4 during Happy Hour and all day Monday's. read more

First I must tell you I love noodles, good noodles. I really wanted to like this place. I have wanted to find a place with wonderful ramen. I had high hopes this would be the place. Sorry but this wasn't. We went there at 1:15 pm for lunch. There was only one server for the entire restaurant. We had to wait to be seated. Then we waited another 15 minutes for her to get back to us to take our order, we were about to just leave at that point. Another couple got tired of waiting and did leave. We both ordered the lunch menu, which come with noodle soup of your choice and either an appraiser or yakatory. My wife had the tempura udon noodles and a mushroom yakatory, while I had the tan tan noodles with spicy lamb yakatory. Neither were great, the tempura was cold, and one piece of asparagus was so tough it was not eatable. As for the udon noodles they were the highlight of the meal, but the broth was overly sweet and no depth of flavor. My lamb was cold, and as for the tan tan noodles, no complex thick peanuty sauce. It was thin tan and one demential, I could only taste the chilis. I can put up with poor service if the food is above average, or even average food if service is great. Both were sub par on this occasion. I really hope this was just an off day or that because it is new they are still working on getting it all together. I wish you luck but most likely won't be back. P.S. I did tip the server well. It wasn't her fault she had no help. I do need to state that half way through our meal another server did appear from somewhere. read more

This is one of my family's favorite places to go. Their chicken chow mein with rice noodles is my go to, and it's a huge portion that is enough for two meals. The chef at Nudo is very accommodating for people who have food allergies, or people who need their food to be gluten free. Located in a convenient plaza with plenty of parking. Ordered the tonkotsu ramen($11) and crunchy roll($9). The crunchy roll was delicious, though nothing super special. The ramen is definitely an interesting take on tonkotsu ramen. They give plenty of meat and the pork included is generous compared to most places, well portioned, juicy, and delicious. There is plenty of corn in the broth, some tofu addons I believe, and a soft boiled egg to boot, all of which comes together to make a great tasting, rich, and slightly sweet broth that definitely hit the spot during a chilly night in Spokane. After just moving from Seattle I was excited to hear about a good ramen place in the area. I ordered the shoyu ramen and my boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki bowl. The ramen was honestly not good. It was very bland, and nearly inedible. My boyfriends food was okay. I've heard really good things about their ramen burger so maybe we'll come back for that. The customer service was above average and the food was 6&1/2 out 10. I am giving it 4 stars, because the problem with my order, they were quick and happy to fix. This restaurant seemed to care, so I will give extra kudos for their effort. The food had good flavor, but I think I just caught them at a bad time, because the water in my dish was warm and not hot.
