Upon entry your hit with awesome artwork throughout the restaurant and very open seating I like the different take. We are always seated promptly and they bring us cucumber waters. My go to always is some sort of sushi to start because that's just what you do at a Japanese restaurant and then I order an entrée off the menu. My go to is Red Dragon I've had several things here. All of them were delicious I really just depends on if I am in the mood for a big bowl of soup spicy beef soup that I can take a bath in it's huge on a freezing day or chow mein noodle with chicken or tofu. One Kinda awkward thing about the restaurant is the sort of open and bathroom when you walk into the women's restroom there's actually no door there it's got like a halfway down drape. I'm not sure how I would feel about this if I didn't do anything other than just quick P. Idk I would definitely feel more comfortable having a door there but I think the whole point was to eliminate the germs while touching the door... I don't know maybe it will grow on me? Nudo has a very trendy vibe with pop art on the walls. My wife and I have stopped in here several times and its my second favorite Ramen shop in town. If your in the mood for an appetizer I would go for the Takoyaki. Its soo good, has a sauce similar to an eel sauce on top its always satisfying. I am a sucker for Tonkatsu, I am a creature of habit, that being said this is not my favorite Tonkatsu. The broth is really sweet, contains corn, has strips of aburaage (Inari) that is spongy and also sweet, I am not a fan of the texture. I don't remember there being any nori but there was a slice of fish cake. On the plus side, I like the noodles here more than my other favorite spot. Also, the pork has a char to it that gives it a very nice flavor. So I like the noodles and pork, but not the biggest fan of the broth. My eggs have always come soft boiled. I often order some Yakitori to change things up a little, often the 5 spice lamb which as you can guess, its strips of lamb, with 5 spices. The lamb is tender and its a nice little treat. So we're visiting Spokane for 2 days. That evening I was watching a Ramen show on VIKI..and so I started craving for some ramyeon.. so there ff day, my hubby brought us to Nudo House right around the corner we were staying at. Everyone was practicing Social distancing so the restaurant wasn't as full. But the host who met us was very pleasant. She seated us in a corner area. I noticed the cool comic like painting on the walls. The menu isn't flashy, just a simple paper. But everything looked delicious. We were supposed to be on this less than 1500 calorie diet, but we scratched that off. We ended up ordering Fried Tofu for appetizers... I decided to half the tonkatsu ramen with my son, and ordered half the size of the Gyudon. My sib had half of my ramen and pad thai, my husband it's the regular size Seafood ramen. First the tofu.. wow! Totally delicious! I'll try to imitate that when I get home. We don't have Nudo Ramen there. They were so kind in separating the one order of tonkatsu into two different bowls for me and my son. The flavor is ok, I can say I've had better,but the experience and presentation made up for that! And the Gyudon..half the size was like full size.. and it was amazingly good! My husband likewise enjoyed his ramen. Normally I have a wonderful expirence, me and my family are pretty regular dining there(1-3 times a month). But today I got the spicy seafood and it tasted pretty off I thought it's cuz I'm pregnant I'll just take it home try it again later. My husband had the veggie miso. My dish was a good portion for the price. It came out superhot and fresh. There was a good balance of veggies to noodles. Now, the reason I am only leaving 2 stars; green onions were listed as part of the dish, but I also got huge chunks of white onion, which I was trying to avoid and why iorderes this dish. This should be disclosed on the menu. Cucumbers came automatically in the water. They are an allergen and should not be automatically served. Fantastic food and the service is super great. The owner was our waitress! She was very engaged and prompt! We had several things off the menu including 2 plain noodle dishes for the boys. It worked well. Both had chicken and tasted great. We also got gyoza and general Taos chicken as appetizers. Both were very delicious. My boys never eat gyoza and they pretty much ate them all by them selves. The generals wasn't too spicy and had a great flavor! Hubby also got a sushi roll that they actually just started serving. The best part about this place was probably Sake, although the portions for it were too small for the price. Anyways, tokoyaki was alright, but not comparable to what we had from authentic ramen places. The main ramen dishes that we got were big, but didn't taste fresh. Meat was definitely cooked and frozen, eggs were probably boiled and cooled hours prior to assembling ramen together. It just didn't taste like ramen would, but did taste like something was slapped together and then water and spices were added at the end, and it was warmed up in a microwave. Wouldn't recommend. I do honestly love the ramen here at Nudo, my personal favorites being the spicy miso and vegan (seriously the vegan broth is amazing). My friend ordered the tonkatsu ramen today, with just eggs and meat for toppings. The eggs were very nicely done. I will admit I'm never sure what I'm going to get with eggs here as I've gotten mostly hard cooked in times past but I highly prefer the runny yolks. Tonkatsu broth was smooth and rich. I've never ordered sushi here until today. I saw some beautiful rolls coming out of the kitchen and I'll try those in the future. My tuna was nothing spectacular but still perfectly fine. The salmon was great, but the yellowtail was my favorite and hit the spot perfectly! My one gripe is the rice portion on the nigiri, as it was almost non existent. This made it pretty awkward to pick up and not as enjoyable as better balanced fish-to-rice ratios in town. The service at Nudo has always been great for me. Today's crew seemed like they were having fun and there were plenty of good vibes going around. We were greeted by every employee we saw at some point. Came to Nudo on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away and chose the patio since it was sunny. They offer a ramen lunch deal for $10 which includes your choice of a small app (such as yakitori, edamame, gyoza and the like) along with a choice of ramen. Our group all ended up going with that as it's a good deal and then you get to try a little variety! Overall, the food was flavorful though I don't know if very authentic (I've had a lot of ramen) and I wasn't overly impressed. The service, though friendly, was quite slow. For my husband and myself, this was our first formal ramen restaurant experience. The bao buns were pretty delicious (the meat was a little tough) but the salad pairing and softness of the bread bun was fantastic. I loved the variety of the menu, truly anyone could go to the restaurant and comfortably order within their taste preferences. After the bao bin appetizer, I ordered the spicy miso ramen bowl and my husband the Tonkotsu bowl. I loved mine, spicy with a range of great flavors...my husbands was ok...the broth has an overly fishy flavor in my opinion. We both agreed the fried tofu was absolutely obliteratingly good. My opinion is a little biased because I love a good ramen, but this is perfect for a cold afternoon. The lunch special is a great deal. You get an "appetizer" and a main dish as part of the meal. They have options for vegetarians and meatatarians. I had the spicy miso. It had a wonderful amount of heat it in. It came with a soft boiled egg, naruto, noodles, pork, and other traditional ramen ingredients. I order gyoza as my appetizer. It was a pork pan fried dumpling. They were served with a wonderful sauce. For desert we ordered some mochi ice cream. They were fun and the green tea mochi stole my heart. First and foremost I have to say our server was polite, attentive, and attributed to getting this place an extra star. The Food: Japanese is a hard food to really hit, because it's so simplistic you really have to nail it, and if you're being innovative, your innovation needs to be better than the original. Order: Tonkotsu Ramen; Takoyaki, Yakitori, and Unajyu (eel donburi) I have to pick on the Takoyaki first, because this is an amazing dish that is simple but so easy to mess up. Spicy mayo and Katsu Sauce were the only toppings for this, which really didn't balance out as well as the traditional toppings: bonito, Japanese mayo, and nori. The texture was good, and it was served fresh and hot, but all and all innovating this dish didn't work in their favor as the new toppings just didn't compliment the flavor of the Takoyaki. Tonkatsu Ramen - Unlike last time they served the ramen hot this time! Not as hot as I am used to, but an improvement. The broth was actually pretty dang good too, but the green onion managed to overpower it a touch. The egg should be seasoned, but the soft-boil was done pretty well. The Chashu just wasn't right, it had a tougher texture and had been reheated and grilled making the shoyo flavoring taste burnt, and the fat from the pork tasted rancid. Yakitori - I thought 3 dollars was a good price, until I found out it is 3 dollars per stick, and the Yakitori isn't made right to be honest. I have literally had this dish from Sapporo, Tokyo, Osaka, and Okinawa and they've all dipped the chicken thigh (not breast) into the sauce, grilled it, then brushed it with more sauce before serving. This was grilled with bits of green onion, and then had a swath of the Yakitori sauce over it. Between that and being slightly overcooked (due to breast being super low in fat that is easy to do) it just didn't work, and I wouldn't get it again. Unajyu - This is one of my all time favorite dishes, and they just didn't get it right. The Unagi itself was actually pretty decent, although I would of preferred it a little more grilled. But the big problem was that the rice itself was truly awful, either it was a bad grain or hadn't been washed enough to really give that firm smooth texture that Japanese rice is famous for, instead it was watery and the grains were spit and mushy. Then in a truly American fashion it was drowned in unagi sauce, which even though I adore the sauce, just ended up hurting the dish. Bottom line, I would come back for the Ramen and probably would avoid the rest. All the stuff is here to make it an exceptional dining experience, and if they put a 3rd of the effort into producing high quality attentive dishes that they put into their freakishly good and stylish decor, they would pull it off. read more
